I went there for the arcade games and really enjoyed myself. There was a good selection of games. The bartender was very friendly. I will definitely go back the next time I visit.

Sunday pool tables are unbusy... everyone's by the bar watching football!

The Break is the best place for a game of pool on James Island (Cha Cha's used to be my favorite, but sadly it closed). They have 4 pool tables, plus video games, hoops, skeeball, and air hockey. There is plenty of seating at the bar as well as at tables and booths. They have a number of large TVs if there is a big game to watch. Outside there is a patio with seating as well. Nothing fancy, but everything you need for a chill night. The bartenders and staff are all very friendly here. I typically only drink and play pool here (a very bad game of pool, but I play!) so I'm not sure how all of the food is. The only food I have ordered is chicken fingers and they were decent. Nothing to write home about, but not bad at all. Overall, one of my favorite bars on James Island!

Nice sports pub. Tons of TV's and big screens. Great seating and layout. Sports-pub-ish decor but cleaner. Very friendly, smiling and welcoming staff. Totally a plus and gives that 'we wanna come back here' vibe. My husband and I popped in for a Sunday afternoon snack and to watch football. The place was empty when we first got there, but filled up quickly just before the game started. The staff were cool about putting the TV in front of us at the bar, to the game we wanted. The bench seats/booths all have their own TV's. (I forgot to ask if they get NHL games...) Lots of pool tables on the left as soon as you walk in, great variety of seating from tall tables, to lower ones, benches and bar seating. Table hockey, driving, basketball and pin ball games make it a really fun place for groups. They even have Ms. Packman stand up video game! The beer was cold, there is a good variety of spirits to choose from. The menu was average as far as choices/variety. Your typical (and well-loved) choices of burgers, sandwiches, finger-foods and basic salads. My husband had the Buffalo Chicken Sandwich with fries, and I had the Roasted Red Pepper Hummus (with cuke slices and celery sticks). My husband was satisfied with his burger/sandwich but said it could've been a big more generous with the fries. My hummus was good, nothing special (from a container maybe?). I would have liked it to have more bite/flavour and maybe offer a more colorful choice of veg. As far as vegan eats, only the garden salad (omit cheese etc) or the hummus fit the bill.) I have to say that the veggies were VERY fresh in both meals and fun presentation. :) You can look at their menu on their website. Good dollar value for the food. Parking was okay. As I said, we got there and there were not many people. The lot is shared with other businesses so it could get busy. There is an outdoor area for smokers, but it seems smokers also congregate in front of the main doors. Bathrooms were totally in need of a good cleaning, specially the walls/doors, inside the stalls. The rest of the bar (our spot at the bar, the floors, the lights and main entrance) were nice and clean. In order for me to give this place more stars: More variety of food choices....maybe deserts and a "The Break Signature Item"? Also, cleaner bathrooms for sure, and maybe a live performer?

    Fun and games.

Stopped in mid day on Saturday and didn't have a reservation and had to wait about 15 minutes which isn't too bad. You can walk around the hotel while you wait. They had a specialty fall cocktail menu which was super cool. I ordered the Haunted Market Street Margarita and it was amazing. It had charcoal simple syrup and lava salt which gave it such an interesting flavor. We shared the Pimento cheese appetizer and I am so glad we ordered. It was so good and the presentation was beautiful. I don't normally enjoy pimento but I did here. My parents shared the turkey club and said it was great. Will always stop by when I'm in Charleston. Our service was also great, as we were indecisive and needed lots of help deciding. i got the farmer's market bowl which was a nice light option for the morning- I appreciated the healthier menu options. They weren't able to split the check item by item, so we had to pay with one card, which can definitely be expected when you have a larger party. The food came out at a reasonable speed, although one of my friends didn't get her food until about 10 minutes after everyone else got their food. My salmon toast was very good, although the serving size was a little small given the price. I definitely could have eaten more, and had to have some of my boyfriend's Cali Bowl (which was awesome). The Cali bowl had a very generous portion of avocado--my boyfriend said it was the most he has ever gotten in a dish, and it was really flavorful and fresh. The chorizo was a little salty. I enjoyed the potatoes in his dish too. The birthday girl got the very notable French Toast Martini, as pictured... the French toast was a good sized piece... AND it came out hot!I got to have a sip of the martini, which was quite sweet and delicious.

There's artwork and writing all over the ceiling, and the whole place has a very intimate, moody vibe. I would 100% bring a date here. Our bartenders were also phenomenal and really added to the experience. We came to celebrate during my birthday and started with a champagne flight, which was such a fun touch. For food, we ordered the steak and eggs and the Applewood bacon omelette. My girlfriend's steak and eggs were phenomenal. Truly no notes. Everything was cooked well, the pacing was great, and we never felt rushed. I ordered the Applewood bacon omelette, and this was really my only disappointment. There was almost too much bacon, which sounds ridiculous to complain about, but hear me out. The bacon was diced extremely fine, almost to the consistency of bacon bits, while the onions were left sliced. I think it would have worked much better if either the bacon had been cut a little larger or the onions had been diced down to match. The textures just felt mismatched. I could absolutely see the vision, and the flavor was there, but the execution was a little off. I ended up regretting my choice a little and wishing I had ordered the mushroom omelette instead. That is definitely what I'll be trying next time. I also wish there had been an option to substitute the home fries. This is definitely more of a personal preference, but home fries feel so overdone as a brunch side, and I would have loved another option. Those were really my only critiques in an otherwise fantastic experience. The atmosphere was beautiful, the bartenders were phenomenal, the pacing was great, and the food overall was delicious. Church and Union is absolutely somewhere I would come back to, whether for another celebration, brunch, or a date night.
