Drinks appetizer, Dinner, Dessert. Wanting something different and maybe kinda healthy we got the broccoli with Panzo. It was really good, was the best thing I ate all night. In the mood for something other then there excellent burgers I got the Chicken Schnitzel and my wife got the Chicken Fried Chicken. She made a good choice and I made a poor one. The Schnitzel was a mess, a thin soft breaded over cooked (seemed pre cooked and warmed) piece of chicken (this is not Schnitzel) its a cutlet, sad spaetzle that had been sitting and very over cooked, it was hard and chewy. the Brussel sprouts were OK and the best thing on the plate. No my wifes chicken was very good, no complaints there. Our dessert of Apple crisp was also very warm and yummy. We came in around 4:30PM on Saturday and were promptly seated in a booth. The charm of this location is apparent right when you walk in. I love the rustic/metal décor of this place especially the bathrooms. The waitress was a little too prompt sometimes we felt a little rushed when looking over the menu. I tried their maple beer option which had a warm sweet after taste it went down really smooth. Our food was out within like 15 minutes we all commented that it was crazy fast! I ordered the ultimate grilled cheese with chips. The sandwich was a little messy with the avocado slipping out the sides. The flavors were spot on though. The chips that came with it were creative and I loved the beet ones they had a subtle sweetness I really liked. I would want to stop in again. read more

TERRIBLE experience! Will never come back. We stopped in for a couple beers and apps. We sat at the bar and ordered food and drinks. After our initial order, the bartender ignored us and never checked on us. On a couple different occasions, we'd get his attention and he'd just say "one minute" and then never come back. At one point, we made eye contact and you waved my hand and he turned his back to me and just stood there. He wasn't helping anybody, just standing there, ignoring me. When someone in our party asked why we haven't been getting any service, the bartender response was very confrontational and he was defensive and rude. When a manager noticed, and stopped over, he didn't even apologize. He just told the bartender to work a different area of the bar. I was honestly just confused as to why this all was happening. Service here is really where Water Street Brewery loses points. I usually opt for bar seating but here my friend and I took a table in the bar area. We were greeted without too much of a wait and received our beers shortly after as expected since the place was pretty empty. However once our waitress knew we were only there for beers and not ordering food, we barely saw her. Yeah, she brought us our check. But after waiting at least ten minutes for her to return for our bill I finally went to the bartender who had to track down our server to cash us out. The beers were easy to drink. Of our flight of 8, I enjoyed the breakfast brown the most. We also tried the honey lager light (typical light beer), Belgian white, weiss, raspberry weiss, IPA, amber and Oktoberfest. Water Street Brewery boasts collections of cans, taps and bottle openers. They were prominently featured throughout the bar area. It was fun to look at the old cans and recognize local favorites. My recommendation if you do decide to go here is sit at the bar and just drink beer. The bartender was very friendly and attentive from what I saw. Had a few hours to kill during a conference this weekend & one of my fellow travellers pointed out the sign from our 7th floor hotel room from the Hyatt. I'd heard about them from Drinking Made Easy so figured it was a good place to try! All 3 of us had the raspberry weiss, and I surely wasn't disappointed! My fellow diners each had the scotch egg (never had one before) and enjoyed it. I had the preztels with homemade mustard sauce - a bit spicy for me but I liked it enough to save for a preztel for later. This was my favorite stop on my boyfriend and I's trip this past weekend to Milwaukee. We came to Water Street Brewery for brunch on Saturday. We orginially intended to go somwhere else, but the large brunch sign and beer vats in the window drew our growling stomachs inside - and I'm glad they did! BF had a beer (sad I cannot remember the name of it) which we both really liked). He also go the amber and enjoyed that one as well. I very much enjoyed my mimosas :) I had the smoked salmon benedict which came with the BEST breakfast potatoes I've ever had. There was some kind of cheesy goodness all over them. BF had the turkey club which he enjoyed and we shared some pretzels that came with brown mustard and a delicous cheddary sauce. Yummm I think I ate my body weight in cheese this past weekend. Service was great - the waitress was attentive without being overly so. We sat at a table next to the window which was sunny and great for people watching. The whole place was very cozy. Ms T and I decided to spend a four day weekend in Milwaukee, having never been there other than to just drive through on the way to Elkhart Lake. We arrived on Saturday afternoon and choose Water Street Brewery as a place to have a local beer and some dinner the first night. Water Street is a nice large place with a good vibe. There were patrons there of all ages. We started with an excellent Scotch Egg. (shouldn't these be Scottish eggs? There is no Scotch involved) Anyway, this was a great appetizer. It appeared to be freshly fried for us and was hot and flavorful. They served it with excellent whole grain (think BB's) mustard. One of these makes a good appetizer for two people. Our beers were a decent Scottish Brown Ale (Water Street) for me and since they were tapped out of their own IPA, the Queen of Hops went with an import, Hopalicious by Ale Asylum in Madison. Ms T ordered a Reuben and I had a "Vienna" brat. Water Street does a couple of things that make these excellent sandwiches. The Reuben has homemade corned beef brisket, which was mild, tender, juicy and delicious. It made Ms T happy because it was not overloaded with pickling spices and garlic. It was very elegant corned beef. Both sandwiches included house made pork belly choucroute. This may be the best sauerkraut I have ever eaten. Most commercial kraut is extremely harsh and sour from the can or jar and needs some treatment to be tamed down. This was wonderful. It reminded me of when my mother baked it long and slow with beef short ribs. Her reuben was on good marble rye and the Swiss cheese was mild with great texture. My brat was from Usinger's and I was impressed with it as well, mildly flavored it matched the kraut. Even the pretzel bun for my brat was well selected, not dry or too much bread. My only complaint was that they way, way over did the application of the whole grain mustard on the "Vienna" brat. They need to serve it on the side. With the relatively subtleness of the choucroute and brat, the mustard overwhelms it all. I scraped most of it off and it was still plenty (and I do like mustard). As a side order that we did not need, I ordered Eggplant Fries. These were long strips of eggplant that looked like giant French fried potatoes. They were inexpensive for what was delivered. They had a nice light batter coating. They were good, but they held a lot of grease. The eggplant does not really have any flavor. It is really a carrier for the deep fried batter. They were served with marinara well seasoned with oregano. We could not finish them and I would not re-order only because of the grease factor. Water Street is proof that a multi-location brewer (3) can have good food by paying attention to the details. Homemade choucroute and corned beef; good selection on the brat and the bun; even house made Russian dressing on the Reuben. In general what we had was well seasoned, but was not heavy handed. It's really nice to get something besides the ubiquitous mediocrity of Boar's Head and Vienna Beef. read more

Not much of a beer drinker, but hey we had just taken a brewery tour at lakefront brewery and they recommended Water Street Brewery as a place with great food. So we had to try it out. We are in Wisconsin for the first time so we definitely got the cheese curds and they were great!! Much better than the ones at Miller Park (not surprised). We saw something called a scotch egg, which I had never heard of, but luckily one of the people in our party had and we tried it out. It's a hard boiled egg wrapped in sausage and deep fried. Yum!! For dinner, I had the Proscuitto chicken roulade and while it was a little crispier than I had hoped for, the risotto was perfect and taste was flavorful. As for the beer, it was some kind of weiss and I don't remember much more about it. It was good but remember, I'm not really a beer guy. Service was good and helpful, though they had a little bit of an issue with another guest who was being disruptive. This place was adjacent to a work function and a friend and I decided to eat here during our downtime. It was extremely crowded, yet they seated and served us quickly. The menu was confusing-- it seemed to be made up of several newspapers and newspaper inserts. Also they seem to carry a wide variety of food, which I appreciate, but it makes it harder to choose. Do I get a burger, schnitzel, or Italian pasta? My friend got a burger and I wasnt feeling adventurous so I got a burger as well. It was a solidly good burger, nothing exceptional, but meeting the expectations of a very critical burger lover like me. I dont think the patties were handmade, but that isnt a dealbreaker for me if the flavor is good. I got mine with salad and was informed all the salad dressings were made in house. The ranch was quiet good. Extra points for quick and attentive service. I wont go out of my way to return, but wont mind if I am in the neighborhood again. read more

We stopped at The Brewery prior to going to a hockey game. It is the first time I've been there since they closed due to the pandemic and remodeled the interior. I was pleasantly surprised. The old Water Street Brewery had become pretty stale in the environment and their food offering. The refurbishment has really improved that. The new layout and seating arrangement gives the place a great vibe. The layout is broken up into separate rooms that have anything from pool tables to couches to sit to different bar locations with high top tables. The menu has a good offering of choices and our group of 4 had a number of different shareable that were very good. One of the unique approaches they have taken is all your ordering can be done on your phone using a QR code off the table and the food/drink delivered when it was ready. If you felt uncomfortable with this approach you could go up to the bar and order with the bartender to be delivered to your table. Ordering off the QR code worked very well for us and the people working were very helpful with any questions we had. I will definitely go back The Brewery in the future. read more

I will preface this by saying we did have a very good BBQ chicken pizza here a while back, however our breakfast experience was more meh. We both ordered French toast, however mine was the brandied apple version and my husband's was plain. The plates looked identical except for mine having about eight thin, fairly dry apple slices tossed in a clump on top.The French toast itself was fairly thick, but a bit dry. This is a long time anchor on the Water Street restaurant row. And for good reason. The menu literally has something for everyone ranging from old school German dishes, Korean beef tacos, jambalaya, variety of salads to veggie burgers. And of course beer. We indulged in a couple of their seasonal Weiss offerings that were very tasty. One with a lemon tinge and another with a light raspberry taste. Both went down easily without being too heavy. Our meals were delicious. We both had variations of chicken. Mine was a simple chicken sandwich while my partner had the chicken spaetzle. The chicken was well prepared, tender and juicy. Dessert was decadent. A brownie ala mode with carmel sauce. The table next to us was quite jealous when the waiter brought it to us. We couldn't finish, but we tried. The service was good. We came in on a busy night at the trail end of a huge pre-concert rush. There was a short wait and things were initially a bit bumpy. But once the staff got their bearings back, everything went very smoothly. Our waiter was great with recommendations and service. I'd recommend hitting this place. We went here for a quick bite after the Urban Garage Sale at Turner Hall. They have a few brunch specials, mostly omelettes or french toast - which looked AMAZING - as well as lunch specials. For the most part, it's "upscale" bar food. Standard appetizers, burgers, salads, sandwiches, and some other entrees like mac and cheese. My friend had the chicken quesadilla off of the appetizer menu and I had the BBQ chicken salad. Both were okay, but nothing special. The BBQ chicken salad had pretty good chicken - not too dry - and the chicken was sauced nicely, but there was way too much dressing for my tastes. Service was fine, it was quiet and we could talk. It wasn't anything really special, but if you need a quick bite where everyone will be able to find something they enjoy, then Water Street Brewery will have something for everyone. read more

I've made a few ventures over to WSB and I've never had a bad time. My meals have been pleasant and well cooked each time. I will say, I have to be bias because one of my roommates served here and I know she had a good time working. I've had the Melt, BBQ burger (which is fabulous) and the mac and cheese. Parking is kind of a pain in this area so be prepared for that. Milwaukee is a beer city. If you go there I see little point in not indulging its german heritage and scoping out a few of the numerous breweries. Water Street is a good starting point. I can see why many folks might write it off as a tourist spot. But that shouldn't detract from the fact that overall it's a pretty solid brewery. I remember pub grub and a wide variety of beers to choose from. A raspberry beer stands out for me. But what really stood out was a chocolate covered cricket the bartender offered me along with a taster of some stout. That and the Mac N Cheese Burger, which is exactly as it sounds. Water Street's best feature for me is just the decor. I love places that showcase local history, like beer labels and bottles, and one can bet that Water Street hasn't changed much thematically over the years. Part of its charm, really. read more

My friends and I came to Water Street Brewery was a game time decision because I was on that crazy restrictive Whole30 diet. Their salad selection actually had something I could eat, and my friends wanted fish fry. Water Street Brewery it was. Dining out on a clean food diet lets you eat 1-2 things on the menu or makes you become that person who makes a ton of weird food requests. I was that person. My apologies, waitress! Anyway. I had this beet argula salad with a substitution for shrimp, and I liked it. My friends all liked their food too. Service was timely. Their beers were good. We had a fine time. Honestly, nothing about this place is bad. It's the definition of 3 stars: A-OK. I didn't mind coming here. It's just I would not go out of my way to come back. read more

Okay, so let me preface this by saying that my dad loves Milwaukee. Somehow, more than I do. And he's never lived here. But he's a man of habit, so when he comes to visit, he likes to frequent the same places. That being said, I've been to Water Street Brewery many times. So many times that I'd stopped going here entirely except for when he's in town and has a craving. I'd just grown sick of the menu; it has remained fairly consistent over the past seven years or so. The hubs and I needed a fairly fast dinner one recent night, and, burned out on the other nearby Water St. options, we decided to give it a shot. He had never been there somehow, which meant it had been long enough since my last visit. He ordered the fish fry with cod and found it enjoyable enough. I opted for the blackened chicken taco salad ($9.95), which I hadn't tried here before. It was pleasantly delicious, tasted fresh, and was just the right portion size to not leave me hungry for more nor to leave me feeling disgustingly full. Blending it with a Water Street Amber, this ended up being a surprisingly satisfying meal. Overall, it was super easy to get in and get seated right away. The service was better than I'd remembered it being; our server was friendly and attentive throughout our visit. Perhaps we'll be back - with or without dear old dad along for the ride. read more

So whenever we fly into Milwaukee, this has been our go to stop for lunch. it's just off of the freeway, and it's a nice restaurant. The menu has a little of everything and everything we ever tried here was fantastic! Great Bloody Mary... but this is Wisconsin after all and most places have good drinks. The one I had, I think it may have been a special, had like an entire meal attached to it - cheese curd, chicken wing, fried eggplant, beef stick, etc. It was outstanding! I'm one of those that never finishes drinks but boy did I finish this one!! And the other thing I highly recommend here - the Scottish Egg. If you have never had a Scottish Egg, try it. A great atmosphere. I was greeted and seated almost immediately when I arrived for lunch. I requested a booth and received my request without complaint. The service was great. I ordered my appetizers and received them right after I placed my entree order in. Food was great. I ordered the Brewtons and the Hanger Steak. The bartender/waitress informed me prior to placing the order that the steak would be medium rare (which I appreciated as I am pregnant). The waitress always refilled my glass without me asking. First visit here and it was a packed Friday night. Despite how busy it was, we were greeted and seated immediately. Our server did a great job of taking care of us despite every table in his section being full. The food was very good. It is traditional bar food, with the addition of some steaks. They have a small but good wine list, and an extensive beer list. All of our burgers were done perfectly and tasted great. My only knock, and it is the same of any location in this area, is parking is miserable and expensive. Lyft in if you can. Overall, a great experience and I would highly recommend it. read more

It's been awhile since I've been to Water Street Brewery, though I have been there a number of times in the past. I think, initially, it was sort of a thing when I first moved to MKE: I worked at Rock Bottom Brewery, and I didn't know much about food, and the whole micro-brewpub thing was really hot at the time. So Rock Bottom, Water Street Brewery, the Ale House... these were *the* spots. Think back, folks. But as I progressively learned more about and experienced food differently, my conception of this place changed. What was an okay spot for a chicken salad croissant when I was 21 quickly turned into more of a "why are we going here when we have so many other good options/places to try in Milwaukee?" kind of thing. Service: not memorable, right down the middle of the road (neither good nor bad), which ultimately is fine by me. Food: bar-ish fare, for the most part... sandwiches, salads, burgers... and again... nothing terribly stand out or special, though nothing was ever bad, either. It just was. Beer: not so much on this tip So... while Water Street Brewery certainly isn't a bad spot by any means (you can get in and out and get some solid middle-of-the-road food and a mediocre local beer), it's also not a go-to for me, and I've certainly experienced better in MKE. To be fair, I'd probably give it more like 2.5 stars. Which brings me to another point: The star rating system. Remember, folks, that context and content is king, and that star ratings, while helpful, are not always the best indicator of someone's feelings/experiences at a place. For example, I've rated both Bar Louie and Water Street Brewery as being two-star establishments, but I'd much rather visit Water Street Brewery than Bar Louie; and if you read the respective reviews the tone and context certainly does differ. read more

In the interest of tasting every beer ever made and visiting all breweries in the area, this was the first stop on my Milwaukee tours of 2013...mainly to drink beer AND get food in my belly to be able to keep on drankin'. Overall, I thought the beer was decent, the food was good, and the place/history is great. I like the atmosphere here...the big copper tanks when you walk in, the dark wood pub look, the exposed bricks, and the old school Milwaukee beer signs and nostalgia. They even have a nice little outdoor seating area too. The beer flight comes with 7 of their regular brews and 1 seasonal. The pours are all around 3 or 4 ounces and I think it was about $9. We tried: Honey Lager Light - A light beer with a nice honey flavor that gives the crispness a deliciousness rather than a blahness. Still too light for me, but not bad. Munich Lager - Nope. I just hate lagers. They are too bleh. Not WSB's fault, really. Bavarian Weiss - Nice banana and clove taste. Pretty typical Weiss flavor. Raspberry Weiss - FRUIT BEER! It's like candy. Not my usual brew choice, but good nonetheless. Pale Ale - Decent carmelly and light toasty malt flavor, but not enough hops in my opinion. Although, I'm an IPA fan, so I never think anything has enough hops. Amber - Carmelly, malty, plain. Not a big fan of this one. Oktoberfest - Typical Marzen...again, I can't say much about this one because I don't really dig on this beer style. Black IPA- YUP. This was it. If I could get a pint here, it would be of this. Really nice espresso flavor, great super toasty malts, and a nice hoppy finish. YUMMY. Our food was good too...it seems like everything here is a nicer version of a typical food (I got an ultimate grilled cheese with bacon...it was alright) and I like the creativeness of their menu. After the cheese tasting at the Wisconsin Cheese mart, we crossed the river, and a huge blue illuminating building caught our eye. So we headed in that general direction. However, I saw a sign for for Water Street Brewery and decided while here, I should try some local brew. They had a list of about 10 beers posted on their wall and I opted for for a pint of their Wit beer. While I was waiting on my beer at the bar, a gentleman started smoking right next to me. I could almost feel the tobacco particles clinging onto one of my favorite dress shirts. I didn't realize there wasn't a smoking a ban in Milwaukee. It's been such a long time since I've been in that situation, I did a double take. Anyway, I got my beer and situated myself near the entrance and enjoyed my refreshing, crisp Wit beer. Service was terrible. The server ignored us for most of the visit. We ordered soup and a beer sampler. The soup took a really long time to get to us. This could be that the soup just sat on the table in the kitchen to be taken to us while the server was off doing who knows what, I'm not sure, but it was barely luke warm when it finally got to us. The beer was really disappointing. I am not one of those homebrewers that says that you can only get good beer by using all grain recipes as opposed to extract. Water Street uses extract, and there is nothing wrong with that as long as the beer ends up with good flavor. These beers did not. read more

WSB is a throw back type of restaurant. In my opinion its more pub then brewery and more of a sunday after church service type of eatery then upscale establishment. This review might not get to the nitty gritty of what you might be looking for. I dont drink beer so i can not review about that. The food was ok...very bland though. I will say nice sized portions. The waitstaff were attentive and helpful. I did have a hard time finding the bathrooms. The food was reasonably priced. The menus are designed to look like newsletters i think, either way kinda confusing. I had some cheese sticks and beer battered chicken strips with fries. The chicken was bland as ever, however the fries were so good. The best think on the plate to be exact. The cheese sticks were actually won ton wrapped cheese sticks. Im not a fan of these what so ever. If someone from WSB is reading this.....stop putting lettuce...leaf lettuce under appetizers as garnish. It look like something from a 1980's diner. You would never get that plating from a bartolotta establishment...or would you? I had high hopes for WSB and i was let down. However i would go back so that they have a chance at redemption. There were lots of things on the menu that i would eat. I would hope that the second time could raise the star level and my opinion of the food served at this establishment. I walked in and was greeted with "what are you here for?" I said I'd like to have lunch. The had lunch specials. I ordered the lobster roll. The fries were cold. They would have been good if they would of been hot and I couldn't even eat the roll it was so hard and broke apart. It was not like a French roll hard on the outside soft on the inside. This place beats the socks off of Rock Bottom Brewery! Whenever my parents would visit me in college, I'd always want them to take me here. I recently went back, and it was as good as I had remembered. I had a really hard time deciding what to eat, since everything looked so good. I finally decided on the blue cheese burger, which was perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious. I love that they serve their sandwiches with Terra Chips too (it made me feel slightly healthy as I put away the enormous burger). read more
