As first time home buyers, we thought the inspection went well at first.. the inspector explained his key findings at the end. We had met the inspector at the home, and noticed a gas odor. We were told it was due to testing the gas burner on the range, that was not in working condition. We believed him...because we did in fact see that one of the burners wasn't working. Fast forward to today.. the day of our closing. I decided to call Nicor gas to check for gas leaks. The technician found 3 pretty major gas leaks. He stated he was absolutely shocked that it wasn't detected on the inspection. Granted the odor was the exact same in the home. At the time. So now we are stuck trying to figure out how to make these repairs for multiple gas leaks. We really thought we were making the right choice, but we are pretty disappointed with the result. read more

the inspector missed the ten plus roach foggers that were right there in the crawl space. All had different amounts of rust on them. So you can tell right away that the roach issue was throughout a long period of time! So how did my inspector missed that when it was so clearly in front of his face! He also took a picture of a mouse nest that was covered in mouse droppings and wrote in the report that it was "installation in the electricity box" I'm sorry but if your inspector can't catch multiple roach foggers in the crawl space and not see that the installation was covered in mouse feces then how can he offer me your pest inspector. We all know pest like to go for the warmth of electronics. So I had to come out of pocket for all new appliances. If I had known about the infestation I would've never purchased a home. Now I'm out a lot of money. Lawyers are being called. read more

They give you a big flashy binder with a bunch of checked off little boxes and whatnot, but this was absolutely the biggest waste of $450 I think I've ever spent. My last home inspection was in 2006 and was $270. It was on an older home, and it was incredibly thorough! Brickkickers, on the other hand, really let us down on some really simple stuff. First, there was the gas leak. I saw another review that encounter the same problem. When the guy from Nicor came to fix it, he said that had it been the dryer output instead of the input, it would have been CO2, not gas. Lucky break. Then again, there's a Smoke/CO2 detector stationed safely between the oven and the dryer. That would have saved us right? WRONG. It was disconnected from the wiring, and had the battery removed. So yeah...it had been intentionally disabled. That's so friggen easy to check. You just push the little button to make sure it's working! Fastforward a month. We installed a humidifier in the furnace and after a day of use, the basement is full of water. Why? Well because the pump that sits in the floor drain and pumps basement sewage up and out to the sewer was dead. This one, my husband specifically went into the basement with the inspector and he said "Well...the drain and well for the pump are still sealed up from the builders and the house is only 4 years old, so it's fine." There was no plumbing in the basement, so there was no need for the pump in the floor drain to ever do anything...but the fact is, it was toast and once we installed an appliance that needed that floor drain, our basement was flooded with 7 gallons of water. I understand they can't catch EVERYTHING, and if they hadn't ripped us off for the tune of $450, I might not have left such a scathing review. But when you charge prices like this, there shouldn't be such brainless mistakes. read more

Had a great inspection, only to be completely underwhelmed by the actual report. There were some serious issues with the home, enough so that we walked away. The report said nothing definitive, just phrases like "further review recommended," "the bathroom appears to not have a window." When you get an inspection, you are hiring someone to give you an opinion, to protect you from definitive things that they feel may be of danger or worry. The inspection in person gave us a lot of worry, the verbiage on the report couldn't be deciphered as to whether or not there was even an issue. If the bathroom doesn't have a window, it doesn't have a window, if there is a cast iron pipe draining sewage from the home showing corrosion, don't tell me in person it needs to be replaced, and then in the report say "recommend monitoring." If you tell me in person, that a cement staircase is causing sloping and could potentially cause water damage to the foundation, you should probably echo that comment in the report because it costs a ton of money to fix it. I encourage you to tell it how it is, your word as a licensed inspector is EVERYTHING. Our inspector told us he couldn't be "as open on the report," as he was in person, but we couldn't even negotiate anything base on how the report was worded. My larger annoyance is that the sellers realtor now has a legal obligation to show this report to anyone who is interested, but it was so mildly worded that no one would even know that there were issues. I'm thankful we didn't buy the home, but was extremely underwhelmed by the courage to call something wrong when it was obviously wrong. We are now in contract on another home and had Copperhead Inspections do our report and we were extremely pleased, I would recommend Andy in a heartbeat. read more

Used them for the purchase of a home. Paid extra for 2 inspectors to come and provide extended review. They rushed through the inspection as fast as they could and came up with very few recommendations, which was incredibly wrong and costly to us as things were broken but not identified and therefore we had to resolve after close. They were so impatient to inspect the attic over the garage because a car had to be moved that they almost bypassed it. Hired a second company (at our expense) to inspect the roof since they wouldn't provide a recommendation because of the pitch. Would not recommend. read more

I had my home inspected by them, very good at sounding intelligent, personable but simply knew nothing about their job. As a first time home buyer felt ripped. -They missed out rotten patio doors that later I found were custom size and ABSOLUTELY need to be replaced (I was told may be the inspector forgot to use the moisture gun! Phew!) - Garage door was sagged and was simply hanging on two end hinges as the rest nails were glued in by the owner ever time you opened the door one popped - Leaks under other door that needed to be replaced - Needed upgrades to the plumbing and the outdoor systems as per current standards that were missed and were required as per building codes, which clearly they had no clue about At the end I am holding a check of over $10,000 in repairs. Please do not waste your money with them! read more

And we have tried to talk to them and complain and they only care about themselves and their own income! NEVER use this company!
