Had Joe come out and do my home inspection and as a first time home buyer I didn't know really what to expect. He pointed out some things that was out of place, sounds good so far. He explains that an open pipe from my second floor laundry room that goes straight to the attic was normal. Yeah that's not true. He also completely missed that under the kitchen sink was plywood covering the true bottom. It was completely moldy and sunken in from water damage the previous owners successfully hid from us. Looking at it now the floor was easily seen as plywood taped together. Speaking of water damage he failed to bring up the fact the drywall next to the window was crumbling away. **********WARNING********** DO NOT use them for home inspections!!!! I NEVER write reviews, but the service we got from this company is appalling on so many levels. Got a home inspection done, closed a month later. The same week we closed my husband smelled gas, so he called the gas company. They came out and found FIVE LARGE GAS LEAKS!!!!!!!!! Called Brickkicker, their response was it could have happened since the inspection, did not want to take any responsibility for these gas leaks. We have talked to several plumbers and they said there is NO WAY that these leaks happened in the 4 weeks between inspection and closing. They had their director Rob Claus come out to assess the gas leaks, took some responsibility for the gas leaks and said they would "participate" in the cost. WTF is participate??! Rob would NOT guarantee that they would pay for the entire cost of the repair--not to mention when he was at the house, he got in heated argument with my husband over the gas leaks--Um... Im sorry, but why does he have a right to be upset at a mistake they made? I have 2 young kids, you missed 5 gas leaks and YOU'RE upset? My realtor had to step in-that's how ridiculous it got. He found a plumber and paid for the repair so we wouldn't have to deal with them anymore. So, if you want a really crappy home inspection with even crappier people to deal with, use Brickkicker! read more

Terrible experience. The inspector Dave missed water damage, mold, damaged door frames and a few other things. When we contacted them we were blown off for quite some time and when Andrew finally did contact us back he pretty much said to bad so sad. We were in the house less than 3 days before we noticed these problems. It should not have been missed by a professional. The mold especially because it was in the shower stall where he (dave) mentioned the paint was chipping... if he would have looked closer (his job) he would have noticed that the light fixture was not properly sealed allowing moisture in and right in the corner there was a small amount of mold growing, but obvious enough for us to notice within 2 days. Nothing was done by the manager (andrew). Very very disappointed, this is what they were hired to do and they couldn't have cared less. read more

BEWARE! READ UNTIL THE END, THEY LEFT MY GAS ON!!!!! I am a seller and our buyers hired this company for the inspection for our house. The inspector arrived 30 minutes early, I work from home so I was not able to finish my work prior to leaving with my dogs because they were barking at him as he walked around the house non-stop without the realtor or the buyers even there yet. I then asked him for an estimate of how long it would take, he wouldn't tell me but said he would call me as soon as they finished and took down my number. I had an appointment for which I had to leave 2 hours after the inspection was supposed to start. 1:45 minutes went by and nothing, my realtor finally tells me they are done (she knew through the other realtor, not the inspector). I rushed home, left my dogs and went to the doctor. My husband and I got home 4 hours later from doctor and errands and our enclosed house with our dogs in it REEKED of gas. Our gas stove was on. Our dogs were in the gas infested house for at least 4 hours, our windows all shut, our heater on. They could've died and our house could've exploded. My realtor and I both reached out to the BrickKicker for an explanation, an apology, I don't know, ANYTHING?! The very 'responsive' general manager (according to the lady who picked up the phone) has yet to call me back. I today receive the report from the buyers and there is a crap load of untrue information on it. So first he makes me late to my appointment by failing to call me like HE OFFERED. Then he irresponsibility almost burned my house down and kill my dogs and then he lies about what's wrong to make it look like he did his job. Please don't use these people and if your buyers do, CHECK EVERYTHING before leaving the house. *I just want to add that the General Manager called me today (5 days after I called), I assume after he saw the review, and apologized and guaranteed he will review this issue with his team. read more

Had our new home inspected back in August of this year. The inspector missed over $2500 worth of water damage in the crawl space. The water damage was easily noticed the first time I went down there. They gave me my inspection fee back and left me with rest. Would not recommend using this company. Updated for more information and response to Brickkicker. The inspector missed 2 more spots of water damage throughout the house which I did not mention before. I am only mentioning it now because Brickkicker will apparently go to great lengths to save their name, but not to own up to their big mistakes. There was water damage in the garage wall. If I had not fixed it myself it probably would have costed another $400-$500. Found another water damaged area in our living room. The carpet was pulling away from the wall, and you could see the tac strip for carpet. The carpet guy pulled the carpet up and the tac strip was almost completely deteriorated. The floor in the area was also damaged. Luckily again, my friend does carpet and helped me out. Would have had to shell out another $200-300. And Brickkicker wants to tell you how they gave great and professional customer service. Obviously I was displeased with their customer service when they only offered $390 for the $2500+ of water damage they missed. So I told the GM of Brickkicker that I was going to tell the Better Business Bureau about how they handled the situation. And here is a direct quote from him. "It is unfortunate that YOU have to go to SUCH MEASURES for YOUR OWN PERSONAL SATISFACTION." So in summary, if you have friends to help you fix all the stuff Brickkicker misses, by all means use them. Otherwise you might be out $2500+ like Myself. read more

Inspected our house for a buyer. Report filled with completely false information. First- after inspector was here one outlet in the kitchen no longer worked. It made coffee that morning. I get things happen, but report does not indicate he broke it. Second a gas leak was supposedly in basement marked by red tape. No thought to alert homeowners that an explosive situation exists AND no red tape anywhere on gas line. Report says back up sump pump does not work- odd it works right this minute. Said sewer ejector pump didn't work- again odd- working now and has worked every day we have lived here. I understand that owners may think their house is perfect and there were some things on the report that were valid and will be addressed. This company seems to be in business to make up problems so buyers can claim the house they're buying is crap and should cost less. There are too many out right lies on my report for it to be otherwise. No respect for this company at all. They are either scam artists or the people they hire are idiots. I have to give it one star to make a review but my opinion is even lower. read more

We are so woefully dissatisfied with BrickKicker and this is our second time using them. The inspector almost cost us an exceptional home because he was prejudiced against the seller or he completely misrepresented himself- there is no other logical conclusion. The seller was at the home and he was combative, rude and patronizing to her in front of us and it made us very uncomfortable. He made outrageous claims on his report such as a brand new roof (1 month old according to the listing) was actually between 13-17 years old. We had to involve our lawyer and have the warranty, invoices, permits and actual roof itself to prove this false. He made egregious claims that the sellers were pulling illegal electricity. Again, false. When we called to speak to a supervisor (Bill Hayes) and he offered to order us a $5 Starbucks gift card and has blown us off repeatedly. He even said this inspector has gotten complaints but has not followed through with anything he said he would do to try and make this right. We will never recommend this place to anyone we know. Just a terrible and stressful waste of money. They have no vetting program for who they send you and they don't back up any of the claims they make to the homes. Just a terrible experience for us as first time home buyers. Very unprofessional. read more

Brick Kicker did a home inspection for us on a potential home to buy. Upon bringing in another opinion, Brick Kicker missed the fact that 3/4 of the home was dryvit/eifs. The home was advertised as stucco, so this was a huge oversight by Brick Kicker. This was about a 30,000 dollar fix and MISS by brick kicker. They also missed the fact that one of the chimneys had no flu and was not lined. Something that with a flashlight and a pair of eyes, is easily noticed. And one of the 2 water heaters turned out to have a faulty igniter, which also should have been caught. The gentlemen was very nice and seemed professional. They also did NOT issue me any refund or credit after finding out about their mishaps. read more

Had a home inspection for the sale of our home and was extremely disappointed. Most items in the report were routine maintenance items that should have not affected the sale. Several items were just false such as a note that the damper in the fireplace did not work. Well it fireplace has a set of gas logs which when installed required placing a safety rod to lock the damper open. He stated that there were cracks in the driveway which is asphalt and sealed regularly just like every asphalt driveway more than a year old. Another example was that the handle on the dryer door was broken so I guess we just don't include the dryer in the sale. The result was the sale was terminated. I believe the report was totally unfair and if at all possible I would avoid using this company. read more

First off, Sherry who set us up with our appointment was extremely nice and very knowledgeable! As first time home buyers, we didn't have a clue what all goes down in a home inspection and radon testing. Joe was our radon tester. We learned that the radon testing is coordinated with the seller and done without needing us. We happened to schedule our home inspection the day Joe went to pick up the radon equipment after the test was completed. Joe introduced himself right away and asked if we had any questions about radon. Of course we did. He had no problem explaining anything and everything about radon. Very nice guy! This is the second time I used Brick Kicker for my inspection needs. The first time was for my old house, which was a different affiliate in Springfield, IL. Since my experience with the Springfield office was good, I used the Naperville office for the inspection on our new home. To be succinct, the inspector did a very thorough job and turned around the report very quickly. While the builder is reputable (Pulte Homes), the inspector did catch three small items that the builder will be resolving. While the three items are not deal-breakers, they were items that we missed during our pre-closing walk through. The inspector literally scrubbed every system of the house...if anything open or closed, he checked it and noted anything of concern. The report arrived by email, and it was delivered no more than two hours after the inspection was performed. Overall, the Brick Kicker is highly recommended. read more

This company did an inspection on our home and said the seller needs to replace the gas lines and meter service to the home. Uhhhh, only the gas company is allowed to touch those lines and meter. Any inspector should know that. I know that and I'm not an inspector. Every tradesman I know knows that too. HUGE mistake on their part, or a lie. Would not recommend. We used them on the purchase of a new home several years ago and they missed some obvious things that could have prevented several water issues that we had. I realize water intrusion happens all of the time but ours were caused by things an inspection should have caught. We used Brick Kicker when we purchased our older home.The amount of major and minor problems that have been found with our house since we bought it is staggering... it's extremely frustrating that a professional inspector didn't find/notice/indicate a single one of these issues in our report. As a result, we've sunk thousands of dollars in fixing problems that should have been flagged in the inspection. Just a few examples... the sump pump was incorrectly installed -- the check valve was five feet off the ground; the water heater was installed incorrectly - connections were not to code; no A/C hookup in the bathroom; these are fairly obvious problems... the list goes on. read more
