Some of the beer seem to be overpriced for a few that were sold that were from a brewery 5 minutes away. NASHVILLE SPICY chicken was just above mediocre, basically breaded chicken tender on a bun with coleslaw and spicy sauce slapped on, the frieds were the best. So, with this QR code ordering system charge 0.50 cents to place the order and non existent service except for the person that brought food from the kitchen and the bartender who opened my can of beer (my fault, I thought it should have came in a glass or atleast given a glass) should there be a 18 to 20 % tip? 3 stars because the fries were good and the beer to help me balance out the hot chicken sandwich. read more

Really fun first time at the Brig. Came for a friends surprise bday and they were able to reserve a table. Large umbrellas/covered tables and dog friendly. You order through an app assigned to the table, and service was surprisingly fast. The place was pretty busy and packed, but the servers were nice and attentive. The orange crush was delicious and the giant pretzel was good although it wasn't warm. The cheese was more of a queso and the spicy mustard was good with a kick. Overall great time. read more

Giving this a 4 for what it is, an easy place to meet up with a group or watch a game. Ordering is super easy if you are familiar with QR codes & online ordering. I like this because it makes splitting checks sooo much easier, because you don't have too! I ordered the Philly cheesesteak sandwich and a Caesar salad upgrade. The meat was tender, and while I don't think it was supposed to compete with a real Philly, it was still yummy and hit the spot. The salad was a much bigger portion than I expected. Score! Go for the beer, not the pretzels. Someone told me about this place a few months ago and I keep forgetting it's down there. I'm always over on 8th but had never gone south of the interchange. Was doing some daydrinking with friends who love beer gardens and I remembered this place so we headed down! I love beer gardens, something that's not as huge in DC as it was in Philly. For comparison purposes, Brig is kind of like a mini Frankford Hall. Lots of seating available at picnic tables or up at the bar. The weather was gorgeous and they had an awesome dude playing acoustic guitar which made it even better! Great beer list and they've got the huge steins. They do have a full bar as well if you're not feeling like a beer. The food is where they got me. We just had lunch but HAD to try a pretzel. It was terrible!!! It literally tasted like the kind you get from the freezer section. It basically tasted like bland cardboard and there wasn't even a single sprinkling of salt on it. The mustard and cheese sauce were both good but seriously, stay away from the pretzel. Absolutely was not what we were expecting at all. I have no idea about the other food on the menu but I'm hesitant to give it a try. Everything else was great just as long as you don't come here for pretzels lol! Nice spot, fairly busy on a sunny saturday, but ordering and closing out tabs via the QR code is nice and drinks come quickly.

Bottom line: traditional Biergarten feel in a big city. No pomp and circumstance here; just great German beers and fare at fair prices. Feels very similar to what is in Germany with the long standard tables, lots of German beers and of course, pretzels. The bar staff is great; knowledgeable about the beer selection and keeps a clean bar. Hofbrau on tap, and plenty of others to choose from, served in traditional German glass stein. Bring your dog! Quite a few other people brought them, so we were happy to see we weren't the only ones. Plenty of TVs that are always showing all of the sports games so college or pro sports are always on. At an average draft price of $8, it's definitely not cheap, but it's worth it. Everything feels a bit more personal and passionate at The Brig. It's a laid back environment, good to meet up with friends and have a few drinks. Don't expect bomb food, but they do have decent selection of snacking food. I took my baby and it was well equipped for a stroller set up on a non-rush hour day. The phone app ordering requirement was kinda annoying, especially because I didn't want to worry about my baby and the phone at the same time. I recently took an online quiz and discovered that my spirit animal is a lion. So, I felt an immediate and deep connection with this beer garden when I was welcomed by two glorious kings of the jungle. There are tons of places to sit here! Behind the gates, and lions, is a huge patio with several seating options: benches and tables, rocking chairs, and of course the bar. On to the beverages..... Did she (the bartender) just ask me if I wanted a liter of beer? Like a size Thor beer??? Yes! That is what I would like...a beer worthy of the mighty god Thor. Live music and plenty of picnic tables. Love these because it's great for big groups but also if you want to meet some new friends just plop right on down and say hi to fellow table-mates. Great place for a nice day, but definitely would suck if it rained since everything is pretty much outdoors. The big umbrellas provide a little shade and shelter if you are trying to avoid those tans and/or burns. Beer prices are alright for beer, but I didn't come at happy hour, so that could be a game-changer. Great selection of beers. The Brig is a great little Beer garden in Southeast SE by the Old Navy Yard. There is a great bar in the back with numerous flatscreen TVs and plenty of bench seating for big groups. The live music was very entertaining and well done. Of course you have to order the beer liters. It's extremely well priced for dc and is amazing. I also recommend trying their giant pretzel and their bratwurst. I had to chance to meet with the owner and he is extremely nice guy. They do a good job of cleaning up quickly once everyone is done. If you haven't been o highly recommend going with Oktoberfest going on. I definitely plan on coming back again soon. read more

This place is exactly what it says it is: a no frills, pretzel and fries serving, beer garden. It's outdoors but with covered seating. The part that was difficult for me was how loud the music was, forcing my friends and I to use our loudest voices to converse. Drinks are not terribly expensive. It was also fairly crowded on a Saturday, and I think it's a common hang out for people before and after Nats games given the location. Also, you can bring your dog so if you're not an animal person, a dog person, you're allergic to cute things, or you're a cat, probably not the place for you. Food wise: the nachos were soggy and had so much cheese, they were impossible to eat without making a mess. Pretzels are pretty standard but *very* small portions, so I would only recommend sharing those between two. Alternatively I've been here on a weekday after work and it was much more chill. I would never return. Have you ever been to a place as an African American patron and could tell you were being "Tolerated" and not "Welcomed" , unlike the white patrons. Especially when your conduct is appropriate, compliant & coincides with all other patron counterparts. For instance, This is the type of place that will demand you follow all policies written & posted or not, but would not even attempt to hold white patrons to the same standards 1 table over, clearly not abiding by policy. This is the type of establishment that will leave you to sit at wet tables and deny your polite & simple requests (3 to be exact) for napkins. In this day & age it's important to be welcoming to All patrons. This business is not BLM friendly. It's almost certain during football season you will find the game you want to watch and if it isn't on the staff will do their best to find a spot on one of their many TVs for you. They offer a slew of traditional German sausages to accompany your saukerkraut and potato salad among others. There are options on the menu for everyone including vegetarians, and of course naturally the pretzel features. The garden is a fairly large spacious and they have pretty good happy hour specials with a plethora of beers in tap and in bottles and cans of course. My only gripe is that when I walked in and waited by the bar, the people on staff acted as if they didn't notice I was waiting to be assistance. Highly recommend heading over in to check them out! If you are looking for an authentic German Biergarten, then you may want to look elsewhere. If you are looking for a post college vibe with a masked vail of Beer garden slapped over the top then this is a great place for you. I usually try to be up beat and quirky in my reviews, but this place is a little hard to summarize. The pandemic era is upon us and with that comes certain character traits that we need to either accept or reject depending on what side you fall on. I am sure this place is absolutely acceptable for the neighborhood crowd because of convenience and the taste of good German beer. I would ask you to think twice if you are planning on making a trip across town to eat a good German meal. The German Biergarten theme is just that. There is no polka music or large steins of beer being thrown around with the smell of Wiener Art or and Jägerschnitzel in the air. It is clean with German style tables and umbrellas' throughout the patio. I also liked walking up to the golden lions from the front of Nymphenburg Palace wrapped in the Bavarian flag. Besides those couple things it could have been any bar in the U.S. The food was what really got me and I paid for it later in the evening. We ordered what we could off the menu, but the German theme wasn't there. There was a pretzel with bier cheese and Grey Poupon mustard and a bratwurst on the menu. Other then that it is just bar food that really didn't need to be on the menu. Nachos don't mesh with the Biergarten theme. Nashville spicy chicken is not German, but it works with bar food in any other bar in the U.S. I ordered the fish & chips and it came out as a fish sandwich with fries (chips). It was due to me not reading the menu close enough, but the price was $13 and so I expected regular fish & chips. Their pint price was $9 and in the name of COVID we are not entitled to order a liter for $15. That makes drinking a lot more expensive. I took an Uber with the expectation of getting a little tipsy and walked away sober and sticky (70% humidity). The service was quick and efficient because of there online ordering app, but the selection for food and beer just wasn't there. Everything is in paper cartons and solo cups, which is to be expected, but the lids always get in the way when eating on a German Biergarten table since they are typically not very wide across. Clean up was a snap and the servers were quick on serving us after we ordered online and when we were finished. Nobody came around to ask how we liked the food or drink. When management or servers do that, then they are showing pride in what they are putting on the table. It gives patrons a sense of calm to know that someone in the kitchen cares about what the customer thinks. The bratwurst was good, but I will stop there. I wish everybody the best of luck during this pandemic and ask that everyone treat each other with dignity and respect. Dropped by for a beer on a Saturday a little after 5. There was a guitarist/singer enhancing the mood of this smallish outdoor space. The crowd, at this earlier hour, included a large amount of families with small children. There were some picnic tables still open but the bar was under shade and nearly empty so we chose to imbibe there. After walking from Navy Yard (which was definitely the scenic route. It's much closer to Eastern Market), I appreciated that they had pitchers of water on the bar so you could self-serve your water. The beer list included a little bit of everything with an emphasis on German beers. If you couldn't find a draft to your liking, their can/bottle list was impressive too. If beer isn't your thing, fear not as there is a full bar! All beers come in 2 sizes with the small being 16oz and the large about 2x that, served in a traditional beer stein. Pricing is relatively par for the course-our two beers came to a little over $14. There is a small food menu-Bavarian pretzels, brats, burgers, etc. Overall, this is a great addition to the area and clearly attracts families, twentysomethings, and Nats fans post-game. The food is delish, hearty and affordable. As someone who has been eating fried pickles for about 25 years, The Bring wins for the best I've ever had. Came on a beautiful December Saturday for football. Some reasons that I'm a fan: 1) Great outdoor space!!! If the weather is nice, this place is such a winner. Lots of tables, some rockers, bar stools, some shady some sunny, yes. 2) Pups allowed! I am that person that loves taking my dog anywhere he's allowed as he's pretty chill and LOVES people, so that's always a plus for me personally 3) Decent beer selection. I enjoyed drinking my Hofbrau weisse on draft. 4) Nashville hot chicken sammy was ok. It wasn't spicy despite being advertised as such, but otherwise it was good, not overcooked, a good mix of sauce with the sour of pickle. Fries were perfectly cooked but could use some seasoning 5) Staff was really nice on my visit. I showed up at 1140 not realizing they opened at noon and they let me in a few min early, which I really appreciated. The weather was great so we worked as a team to raise the plastic tarps to make it more outdoorsy and as the first (and for a while only) person at the place, they put my game on with the sound. I finally made it here after driving past it a trillion times. This place was adorable and had heated lamps which was just what we needed. My friend and I got a warm spiked apple cider drink that was delicious and the other two got a grapefruit beer that they loved. They also had card games at the table which is always a plus! I came to the Brig with a friend late on a Saturday evening, and it was packed. The flow of the beer garden really works though, as we had beers in hand within five minutes of entering. I ordered some kind of Hefeweizen, of which they had two, and I asked for the sweeter one. It was a good option, and the prices seemed reasonable when I was staring at the menu. (I didn't pay for my beer so I'm not sure of the exact price.) The beer garden is loud with family style seating, and my friend and I ran into a group of people we knew from work. A lot of people can easily fit into the dining area. From what others told us, the food was mediocre. But I would like to come back for happy hour and take advantage of the discounted beers and soft pretzels. The second beer garden to open in two days. It is officially summer, folks! The Brig is off to an amazing start and you can tell it's a well thought out venture. The service is already well developed and the crowd on day one didn't slow it down. The menu of ~25 beers rotated through three slides on a TV but only the cans had prices. Perhaps because the drafts have multiple sizes, though we weren't given an option between a full or half liter. There is a food menu though it's an afterthought and didn't have anything I'd want to order other than a $5 pretzel which actually came with a very sizable side of dipping sauce. Luckily there is room on site for at least one food truck (Swizzle the hot dog truck). The one area the Brig needs to work on is their pricing. Cans are $6-8 which is incredibly steep, especially considering the $6 options were shit beers like PBR and Bud Light. The Anderson Valley gose I got was $8 and, though it's a good beer, it's not something so hard to find that it warrants that price tag. All of the half liters we got were $8 though we didn't find that out until we got the check. They definitely need to have their pricing available for customers. The Brig is close enough to home, has ample shaded seating and though pricier than another beer garden closer to our house, has a bigger selection of beers. This place is already rocking. Definitely a great addition to an otherwise dead zone between Barracks Row and Navy Yard. We will be coming back here throughout the summer for sure. read more
