A very swanky place. Me and a date were walking around Galleryplace for a place to sit and when we walked in and we knew immediately to ask for a table. There is something very special that goes into tapas because its suppose to satisfy you based on good taste over quantity. Large shrimp in a generous skillet of olive oil and slow cooked garlic slices and a iberico mac and cheese are some examples of how they elevate classics we are familiar with. We really liked that they learned into garlic and spice. We found dried Aji Caballero in our meal, great attention to source country. They have a very robust and generous drinks menu. Loved watching others not dining alone and embracing that share quality of the menu design. Perhaps it is not the best tapas I had, I would have liked to see a balance with lighter citrus flavors but maybe that was an ordering issue. I came for brunch with friends the other day and we had a great time. We did the "family style" option which involves picking 2 appetizers and 3 entrees for the table plus one sauce to go with the dessert churros, for $29 per person. This is actually a pretty great deal IMO. Of course when you have a group of 7 where some are vegetarian and some have dietary restrictions it is an intricate dance to land on your selections, but we worked it out in such a way that everyone could eat "most" of what we picked. We had: * patatas bravas * croquettes (some mushroom, some ham -- usually you pick one or the other but they were kind enough to split it) * crispy french toast * avocado toast * mini BEC sammies And dulce de leche sauce with the churros. We also split a pitcher of the shishito pepper margarita and most folks ordered their own drinks as well. I don't eat mushrooms so I stuck to the ham croquettes but ate everything else. I liked all of it. My favorites were the crispy french toast, the croquettes and the patatas but I did actually like them all. Others at the table weren't as keen on the avocado toast, they didn't think it had enough avocado on it - but I actually liked it because for me a little goes a long way. But I am not a millenial expert on avocado toast like most of my friends are. The sammies were also really good but the ham was a bit fatty and some of the sandwiches ended up a bit drippy. I didn't really care for the pepper margarita. It wasn't bad, just not to my personal taste as I prefer sweeter drinks. The lychee cosmo was better, as was the cherry blossom gin & tonic. Today we came for brunch and a both found the "family" style brunch a bit misleading and not nearly enough food for two adults. For example. I've been to Boqueria four or five times now, basically every time I'm in DC, and I tend to bring coworkers with me whether they asked or not. It's become one of my must-visit spots. I've mostly gone for dinner, but I recently tried their brunch and was genuinely impressed. I've spent time in Barcelona with my former partner's family, so I've had a small window into real Spanish cooking. Because of that, I tend to notice when a place feels authentic, and Boqueria gets it right every time. Dinner Favorites: Pintxos Morunos (Lamb) - my top pick. Tender and seasoned perfectly. Gambas al Ajillo - I have a shrimp allergy... and I still dip bread into the sauce. That should say everything. Brunch Favorites: Huevos Horneados - hearty, rich, and great for sharing. Torrija - One of the best brunch items I've had anywhere. Atmosphere & Service: [[HIGHLIGHT]]Lively but not chaotic. Friendly and knowledgeable staff took good care of us, food came out very quickly (tapas style restaurant, so as something is ready it hits the table), good pacing ultimately and we tried a lot of the menu! If you're looking for a quick bite to eat, and you're not that hungry, this would be a great place to pop into. During our stay in the DC area we came in for a quick late afternoon lunch. The restaurant was not too busy so we were seated immediately. There is a nice full service bar and plenty of seating and it looks like this restaurant is set up to accommodate large parties. The hostess and the staff were very personable and friendly. We got our menus and water right away, which was nice because we have been touring the DC area that morning and we're pretty hungry. The menu has a lot to offer... From small plates, such as, tapas, two larger entrées, such as paella. Since we went during the late afternoon, I wonder if we had the lunch menu versus the dinner menu, so there could be a difference in menu options. We ordered the bacon wrapped dates, the Serrano ham croquettes, torta Española, and a plate Manchego cheese and Serrano ham. Everything was tasty! The torta Española was good, however, it was served cold and it was very cold. Personally, I prefer it to be room temperature or slightly warmed because I think it brings out the flavors. I'm sure the staff would warm it up for you if you ask. This version of this dish had the perfect balance of potatoes to egg mixture; it could have used more onions or seasoning, but overall, it was tasty. We also ordered the churros with hot chocolate sauce... We were so excited to dive into those yummy treats that we forgot to take photos of the dish. The hot chocolate sauce was so delicious... It was pretty close to authentic, and it reminded me of the hot chocolate I've had in Barcelona The only complaint I have is that the tapas items we ordered had three portions. It would be nice if the restaurant would throw in one more, which makes sharing ideal! (wait...! Do I have OCD...? Our second time here...this is a polished, dimly lit space with a large energetic vibe. Nice collection of tapas, cheeses, ect. The real star is the paella....most American Spanish restaurants dont quite pull it off but Boqueria does quite well. Had a cheese course, the grilled octopus and the seafood paella. Cheese was wonderful and accompanied by a delicious jam I couldn't identify and some amazing bread. Octopus was amazing also. Paella was loaded with squid, clams, mussels and shrimp and the rice had that crusty texture you love...just awesome. A real highlight was our server Alexa...purely by chance this is the second time we have had her and she is a joy. Took great care of us and really knew the menu. I have mixed feelings about Boqueria Penn Quarter! The first time I experienced Boqueria was as a guest of a friend's large party celebration. It was very disorganized and when the group of 25 of us arrived, they were not ready for us with food or drinks. Ordering was difficult because the server was not consistently checking in. The dishes that were ordered for the event were good though, and when we did get the sangria/drinks they were good. They had a mix-up with the timing of the event and it was clear miscommunication so I did not rule the restaurant out. The rice dish I had at the time did stick with me. When I was looking for a happy hour location for myself and colleagues, I decided to give the restaurant another try. When we arrived we asked to sit outside because it was a nice day. The host told us the outside was not open. We were sat with a view of the kitchen, which was nice, but also told because we did not have a reservation we would have to give the table back by 7:30pm (we arrived at 5:30Pm). I would suggest securing a reservation because due to location, it gets busy. I was super impressed with the attention to detail from the server when I noted I had an allergy. She came back with a menu covered in markings to let me know what I could have. The options were slim because a lot of the dishes have tree nuts in it, but the consideration was kind. We had the shishito margarita, which was spicy and had a very peppery flavor to it. I was given the impression the spice was not overwhelming and because I don't usually like spicier margaritas, I decided to give it a try. It ended up being spicy and not a favorite for me. I did have some of the HH Sangria pitcher that a friend ordered which was very good. We ordered the Patatas Bravas, which was so cute when it came to the table. A very fun shooter! I could not partake in the appetizers because the menu wasn't as amenable to allergens. I also noticed that our server did not come back as frequently as we would have liked to be able to enjoy the HH to the max, we did have to flag a manager to get orders in. read more

I've been to the bouqueria DuPont location 2 times and the Penn quarter location 1 times. Overall, the food here is pretty good-- I especially like their paella and their croquettes. We love tapas! This particular location is in Penn Quarter which is within walking distance from our hotel. We originally were looking for the La Tasca restaurant in Chinatown, but found that it was no longer in business. Thankfully we found Boqueria. I think the only difference is that their tapas menu is somewhat limited. Although, what they had was traditional and very similar to the tapas we had in La Ribera and Diagonal Mar. The flavors were all there. We arrived on a weekday for an early dinner. We didn't need a reservation for that time. There was a larger group in one of the private rooms, as well as a few happy hour visitors. It was so nice to get a large booth near their open kitchen. The atmosphere was great, and actually very quiet compared to other tapas experiences. I doubt it's like that past 6pm. We had a few of our favorites. The portions were small, but perfect for the 2 of us. I could definitely taste the spicy smoked paprika in the Patatas Bravas. It was delicious. The Pimientos de Patron were much larger than others we've had in the past. What was cool is that my husband happened to get that occasional spicy hot pepper. I was happy to hear that. He loves them. We also loved Boquerias's version of the Pan con Tomate that is topped with piparras. It was a nice touch. The Croquetas de Setas were tasty, but too small of a portion. It will leave you wanting more. I'd order 2 of them so that you have a total of 6 croquettes. The 5 oz serving of Picanha a la Parilla was the perfect size for sharing. It was cooked perfectly with a great seasoning. For dessert, we split the churros with chocolate sauce. I don't think they have the stuffed chocolate churros on the menu anymore (unless it's a secret menu item). The churros were on the thinner side. The chocolate sauce wasn't as thick as it should be. My Naranja Picante was absolutely delicious, fresh and sweet (but not too much) with a bright acidity and lively spice. I had a piece of the Pan Con Tomate, which was shatteringly crisp and the tomato-oil mixture on top was almost jam-like and very tasty. My friend enjoyed his Butterfly drink, and he DEVOURED his Patatas Bravas and Mini Hamburguesa. I really liked the creativity of the non-alcoholic beverage options here.
