It's like Mini England in Florida. My mom and Sis visited this place last time they came to FL so when I came I was so excited to get my candy. When I saw this store has everything you need, you feel like you stopped in one of the shops to get your items, from chocolates, crisps, custards, and even ribena. They have it all. My favorite candy is the Whole Crisp and when I say it was a crime how much I ate it. The worker was so nice and felt welcoming. She had books, magazines, newspapers, shirts, etc. and even playing a British show. This is what you need when you miss home. During out stay, we came here 2x because I needed to bring my candy home. A Small, blink you will miss it, shop filled with various British foods and souvenirs. Once you step inside the store you feel as if you shopping at Ma and Pa store somewhere in England. The selection is enormous. I purchased a lot the of beef pies which I enjoyed later. The lady at the store was very friendly and helpful. So, go, shop, enjoy!! read more

The British Depot is your cozy shop for British canned items, candy, chips, cookies, refrigerated foods, juices, and sodas. Outside, the early model British car grabs your attention. It alone is enough to get you interested in what's inside the store! Inside is slightly larger than a Chevron gas station. The layout is better, so there is low risk of awkwardly trying to get around another customer. Regarding service, the lady at the register is always polite and courteous. We primarily go for their fascinating soda selection with our favorite being CLUB Lemon. So amazing it is, that we buy them in bulk go give to coworkers! We mentioned candy earlier, and for great reason. The British Depot stocks Cadbury items as regular instead of seasonal! One thing we didn't look for, but remember from "Doctor Who" starring Tom Baker as The Doctor, were Jelly Babies. Jelly babies, originally called Peace Babies, (PROSE: Wolfsbane) were an English sweet favoured by the Doctor, particularly in their fourth incarnation. The Doctor often offered them to companions and others they met on their travels. Jelly babies were in the shape of a miniature humanoid child. They were made out of gelatin and were available in a variety of colours and flavours including chocolate. (GAME: City of the Daleks) Colours included yellow, (TV: Doctor Who) green, orange, black, pink (PROSE: Utopia) and red, (TV: The Sound of the Drums). (AUDIO: Scaredy Cat) Whether you make a purchase or not, you can still enjoy a good browse. The British Depot is an excellent way to introduce yourself to British foods and drinks. I have developed a love of British candy so when I passed by The British Depot I had to stop. I had recently sent my stash home with my daughter and I needed to replenish some of my favorites. Located in a strip plaza on Commercial Boulevard in Oakland Park, I knew I was in the right place as soon as I saw the Hackney Carriage out front with the Queen riding in the back. I was impressed with the large selection of sweets at the British Depot. They had everything I was looking for and more. I ended up with a delicious candy assortment which included Walker's Treacle Toffees, Fruit Gums, Sherbert Lemons, Fruit Salad, Swizzels Refreshers, Chewits, and a Cadbury Double Decker. This was my first time trying the treacle toffee and while you could taste the richness of the molasses they weren't bitter at all. They are now one of favorite British candies. The cola Chewits are my preferred flavor and I adore the tutti fruit taste of the Fruit Salad. They had a large selection of Cadbury chocolates and the sweetest Easter display. I was planning of sticking some of the candy I purchased in my daughter's Easter basket but I think it might be gone by then. In addition to the sweets they sell crisps, sauces, seasonings, pantry items, tea, drinks, frozen foods, snacks, biscuits, crackers, spreads, and British souvenirs. Will and Kate have been promoted to the front window and I found Harry and Meghan relegated to the back corner of the store where they were being guarded by the Queen. I had a lot of fun looking over the inventory and shopping. Next time I will venture into the crisps with flavors like prawn cocktail, roast chicken, and tomato ketchup. This store has enough selection to please both expats and anglophiles. read more

What a treasure to find! This shop has everything you might like from "across the pond." While planning a "Tea Party" for my nieces, I couldn't find crumpets or scones in my local grocery store. Not only did British Depot have those, they had an incredible assortment of "sweets," treats and delicacies I fondly remember from my time living in the UK. On my way out, I noticed a life-size cutout of Queen Elizabeth...When I asked if I could borrow her until the next day, the store owners graciously permitted me to do so! Had this place bookmarked forever, I'm rarely down this way so I took the opportunity on Sunday since I was down there to watch a game in a local pub. As an expat it doesn't take much to get me excited; those familiar and most nostalgic items which smell, taste and help one reminisce of home, I welcome them. This tiny store in a simple strip mall adorned with flags and cheesy union jack t-shirts definitely got my excitement going. Walking in it was basic, nice to see easter eggs (as is the season), plenty of curry sauces and condiments, but honestly some I can find in Publix and much cheaper for that matter. They do have a freezer section with pies, sausage rolls, bacon etc, which is great as those items are so hard to come by. Nothing in the freezer is priced and the pies don't have expiration dates on them so your guess is as good as mine. I grabbed a few snacks, two chips (hula hoops and monster munch, my favs), a dandelion and burdock, bacon, a couple of pies and some malteasers. The lady at the counter was miserable, not personable and barely made eye contact, I know its British and we aren't known for being the most personable species on earth, but she was the epitome of misery. The price wasn't cheap, and the service wasn't great. What was worse was that eating a few of the malteasers on the way home, they tasted funny, checked the date and they expired Jan 22 2017. They tasted stale and I was disappointed. And with that all my excitement and built up nostalgia died. The search continues... read more

Some of the British goodies I have had in the past but couldn't find here in Fort Lauderdale... until now. I don't have a fondness for British cuisine in general just a few specialty items. They had most of those I was looking for. Tip: Compare their prices to the prices you see online. The prices on the items I enjoy were much lower here. And no shipping or waiting. read more

We just got home from visiting the store. We had the pleasure of meeting the new owner someone had told us to give it another try as before we didn't like the store as it used to be dull and dirty with not much stock. What a transformation! The new owner has done a great job we spent a small fortune lol. New bright lighting spotlessly clean lots of new stuff definitely worth a visit and such a changed atmosphere for the better! read more

I stopped in because, well, being British, I thought I could find some of my old favorites. I asked the owner where, in England, he was from and he immediately started complaining about American politics. Ignoring that, I spotted my all time favorite Haywards Pickled Onions. On the shelf for $6.75! (Twice the price of any online Brit shop!) Then I picked up a bag of Bassett's Licorice All Sorts... Also, $6.75! (For a small bag, mind you...) When I opened the All Sorts, they were stale and the colors had faded like they had been sitting in the shop window for a month (remember this is in Florida!) Also, while I was looking around the owner had made a phone call, apparently to his Pork pie supplier, complaining about his cost of his pork pie shipment (store cost $2.95) after he hung up the phone, he said to the co-owner "Well that's the price, what should we sell them for?" She said... "$6.75?" I paid and left! I would not recommend this place! read more
