Lived at the Broadmoor for a few weeks when I just moved to SF. The staff and front desk are wonderful and very warm. the lady is super rude , threatened to call the cops on us for accidentally parking in their parking lot. I loved staying at The Broadmoor! The location is convenient; the bed comfortable, the room quite spacious and everything is kept clean. My room had a small fridge, microwave, and kettle for making tea and coffee; a private bathroom with nice bathtub. Staff were super friendly and helpful! The lobby and garden is lovely, and they serve breakfast no extra charge. All is all, way better than a hotel and the price is much better than most hotels in San Francisco! My wife and I stayed in the B&B room at Broadmoor for four days to close out matters related to the death of my wife's aunt, who had stayed there for years and enjoyed it immensely. We loved the people and the food and the price and the location. The people who worked there were all friendly and helpful. The food was very good. The price for a room and three meals a day was very reasonable given its location and the high cost of San Francisco. The location was five stars. Our only complaint was the bed was a little dated. All in all, I would give it a 4.5. There was Wi-Fi and a TV with Fire connected. Had we stayed in any nearby hotel and eaten out we would have ended up paying 2-3 times as much and probably not had a better bed. Ed read more

My parents stayed here on a 1 month trial. I think it was about $4,000 or $5,000 a month for a 2 room furnished apartment with 3 meals per day. It's nice that it's not one of those corporate assisted living places that feel like a fake Marriot or Holiday Inn. It's a very good value, in a wonderful location, walking distance to Union Square, the symphony, opera, ballet, and Whole Foods if you are healthy and mobile. If you are less mobile, the bus is nearby. There's also a lovely private garden. Now for the negatives. The rooms are tired, and need updating. Bathrooms need bleaching or new caulk. The sofas and chairs are worn, so you sink into the seat (but not down cushions). It was hard for my parents to rise from sitting. We asked for wooden chairs with arms, and the front desk clerk said to pick any chairs and they would be delivered. We chose two, only to learn later that those were lobby seating only. Two lesser chairs were delivered. If my parents had stayed, we would have moved furniture in. We did move in a microwave and cable TV box. Food was like coffee shop quality. Not bad not good. Also no low salt or low fat options. Yet, despite the negatives, SF is so expensive and the Broadmoor is not. Life is not perfect. No handicapped access ramp. Entrance has stairs. read more

When I arrived the manager was quiet charming and assured me that this was a safe space. He discussed That the residents were happy and they had plenty of activities. He offered me the meal plan of $500.00 per month. I declined the meal because the menu was so limited. The menu plan also looked substandard considering the price. I use a mobility scooter as I am disabled and at my time there the door bell that alerted the staff to "let me in" was broken. After moving in the facade crumbled. As the door bell broke the second day I was there. In order to be "let in". I would have to go to the front entrance and go up four stairs in order to wave to the person at the front desk. Many times I was fatigued. My knee had also been injured causing pain on going up even a few stairs. Getting around in limited walking distance with a flat surface was not an issue. As The Broadmoor is in San Francisco I relied on the scooter to move about outside. My disability access became an extreme difficult. I had to ask to have access to the disabled door I had to ask permission from the front desk to enter and exit. The manager never addressed the door bell problem the duration of my stay. Many times when I wanted to go out the staff acted as though doing their job was an inconvenience. that they had to give me access. Often times I was exposed to eye rolling and moving slowly to act. Obviously, this was a clear violation of my rights under the Americans Disability Act and is considered a Human Rights violation. There was no no printed brochure listing prices, amenities, meal plan, and activities. There was something on Facebook. Not having a printed brochure was difficult and didn't explain the policies and procedures. The Broadmoor also hides behind legal status. The Broadmoor lists itself as a hotel but also acting in the capacity as a residential long term facility. As a hotel my room rate could be changed monthly without expiration. The building, albeit being old, is in bad condition. The heating is often inadequate. During various times in the night there was loud banging noises from the heating pipes was easily distracting. There was mouse problem. My service dog chased mice on several occasions. Attempts to treat the mice problem is in no way professional. The shower pressure and heat were also lacking. I complained to the manager on the rude behavior of a staff member. I regret saying anything. The manager became defensive, raising his voice, even attacking me. After my complaint he manager became retaliatory. I was harassed over petty issues. Other staff members were rude. I can in no way can I endorse The Broadmoor. read more

When I first came to The Broadmoor over two years ago I felt I was entering a "time machine" and traveling back half a century: not only was the decor antique but the service was personable and the whole atmosphere unhurried. This had its downside--for example, there was no Wi-Fi: but that has changed and there's now Wi-Fi available in all the rooms and this has been very helpful to me. The Broadmoor has a spectacular Roof Terrace that is a delightful place to sit outside and enjoy the typically beautiful weather, surrounded by greenery and artwork. The food is plentiful and tasty (though I, myself, would appreciate having more healthy vegetarian options). Now that COVID-19 is coming to an end, activities and social events are resuming and this makes the experience all the more enjoyable. There is an Exercise Room with treadmills, rowing machine and exercise bike. The staff are friendly and very helpful. My room's basic furniture was provided according to my needs. The location is excellent: near several good bus routes, very close to JapanTown and Lafayette Park, a 10-minute walk to the Post Office, a half-hour walk to BART and the Main Branch of the Public LIbrary. The rental is month-to-month and the cost very reasonable (especially by San Francisco standards). This place is a GREAT "find"! read more

This place is mediocre . Well yes as one reviewer pointed out you might hear yourself speak at the dinner table you won't be able to eat because the food is so bad. It is high fat low vegetable love fruits etc. I've seen a lot of bananas and apples though by but I haven't seen a blueberry. There are activities when Covid is not happening which were enjoyable. Most of them are run by the residents so depending on your relationship with whoever is running that activity you might find it enjoyable or you might not. For example the singing group is ran by a woman named Evelyn who wasn't very nice to me and when I asked someone why this was she commented that the woman's nickname is evil in and she's not very kind to anybody. Luckily nasty people are the exception Rather than the rule for the residents. The staff on the other hand is more like 50-50. Some are outstanding friendly do their job properly explain what they've done are sensitive to any medical problems you might have such as memory issues or Alzheimer's, but some default to extremely rude. This is most irritating when one of these persons is working the front desk and they choose to play games or tease people who might have mental problems and it simply delays time wastes my time as I wait for my mail. There seems to be no local no pharmacy in house they won't even take the residence temperature if requested. Any medical help must be hired from a medical assistant from the outside. There is no medical assistance here. Supposedly if I drop my phone when I'm in the bathtub someone will come and save me luckily I have not had s chance to try that yet. I sure hope it works if I ever need it. Unfortunately some of the higher up staff is markedly dishonest pushy and unpleasant. Promises are made which I never kept, one woman got a threatening letter from a lawyerFor something like letting her dog off the leash I am not sure. When the cove it wasn't going on there was a fun thing once a week on Friday they would have some music and some alcohol. Some of the music was actually good. Too much of it was a bit jazzy for my tastes and not enough folk music but that's a fun night. The advertisement of hotel amenities is a bit misleading. The maid service is minimal. Basically it consist of getting your trash emptied every day and then one day a week a well semi-decent cleaning of your room. To compensate a bit the person delivering the cleaning service is usually a cheerful person who are you can practice speaking Spanish with should you so desire. During the non-Covid times there is bingo once a week or sometimes there is and you can win actual money! There is a room to work out in with about three machines no stair climber unfortunately and there are exercise class is Latin class is movie night and lots of other things to do. Under crisis however when everyone is bored and there's nothing to do they offer nothing there has been no zoom events nothing on the computer no bingo by computer nothing. Everyone seems to be going a little bit crazy from the lack of activity and social life so I just figured out that a lot of them go hide in the back porch from the from the management so they can have some freedom and relaxation and apparently cigarette smoking and other stuff. If they had a 2 1/2 rating I'd give him another half start maybe but that's not possible. For the money you would be better offf in sn apartment with roommates read more

The Broadmoor is a perfect place for a senior citizen to stay while visiting or living in San Francisco. The food is very good and there are always choices. The activities are as varied as the food. The location is convenient. The residents are very welcoming and the staff takes great care to treat each person with respect and kindness. Yes there are more modern hotels, yes there are some areas that could be improved upon. However there is no other place that treats their guests with such warmth and attention to their individual needs. Most Importantly, Management listens when you speak with them. They don't just give you lip service. They really listen! read more

My 94 year old mother-in-law moved from the East Coast to SF to be closer to us about 4 years ago. We researched and toured a number of retirement hotels and homes and the Broadmoor was hands down the best of the bunch. The staff is friendly and attentive and the food is amazingly tasty and varied. Friday nights there is live music and a cocktail party with tasty appetizers. It's very lively and fun and guests are always welcome. My mother-in-law is very happy in her new "home". I don't think she can imagine living anywhere else. I imagine someday I'll happily end up at the Broadmoor. read more

My octogenarian father-in-law visited us for a month over the holidays and raves and raves. Don't take my word for it...take his... "I am so glad that I got to discover "The Broadmoor", a hidden treasure of a place for adults to stay, and live in, in San Francisco. Everything seems to have been well thought out, planned and implemented. Immaculately clean. Gracious and attentive service. Friendly atmosphere. Three well balanced and healthy meals a day. All this at a reasonable cost. 5 well earned stars." This from a VERY experienced business traveler. Considering the affordability, and the patient-and-HIGHLY-present staff this is seriously a great choice for any visiting relatives, even those challenged a bit with mobility. Received a solicitation in the mail from Broadmoor offering a 'complimentary lunch with tour'. It was addressed to my father who never lived at our address and who died in 2002. I called the number shown above and the call was answered by an individual who did not speak the same language as me and who would not transfer me to someone to whom I might be able to communicate. The individual hung up. I find it painful when I receive mail for my parents who have been gone for so long. I believe the Broadmoor should be more careful as to what they send out and who they have answering the phone. I don't think that they would be a choice that we would make even though we are in our 70's. read more

My last trip to San Francisco, I stayed at the Broadmoor. It was a lovely experience. The hotel is elegant and has an old world charm which I liked. The staff was friendly and very helpful. My room was spacious and beautifully furnished. It was also very quiet. I enjoyed the dining room which rivaled many upscale restaurants here in the East. I especially liked the exercise room as I am hoping to hold off old age as long as I can. The week I was there, the social director had some fun adventures for the residents. I felt very lucky to be included and saw parts of San Francisco and the surrounding area I had never seen before. The residents were delightful. I hope to visit San Francisco this summer and look forward to staying at the Broadmoor again. read more

We had Thanksgiving dinner at The Broadmoor today with our 94 y.o. friend who lives there. It was so nice, enjoyable and good. We could actually hear ourselves talk--unheard of in San Francisco! And they had very nice guitar/music that made it so upbeat and festive. We will very likely go there again next year. read more
