Ask the Community - The Carlisle

If someone wakes up after 9:30 do they have to wait until noon to get something to eat or is there a meal area open continuously even if the specific breakfast items are no longer available? What are the Bistro Cafe hrs? What are Dining room hours?

Hi Dale, Thank you for your questions! The Carlisle dining room hours are: Breakfast 7-9:30am; Lunch 11-1:30pm and Dinner 5-7:30pm. Carlisle apartments also have kitchenettes or full kitchens to compliment the dining experience.

What are the hours of breakfast service?

Hi Rod, Thank you for your interest in The Carlisle. Breakfast is served from 7am to 9:30am to accommodate early risers and everyone else. If we may be helpful with answers to other questions, our number is 415-749-7282. Best Regards, The Carlisle

Providence is ideally suited for late-state dementia cases. Its caregivers are experienced, caring, and tuned in to the unique challenges that come with severe dementia. I especially like Providence Place's pricing model in that they don't gouge you with added costs for every little thing; their pricing is clear upfront. Fresh meals are provided daily, music and light exercise therapy are woven into the weekly routine, and opportunities given to residents to enjoy the fresh air outside. It's never easy seeing the irreversible march of this horrible disease on loved ones. But knowing my mom and the other residents at Providence are getting great care, is so comforting!

Previously, he spent 2 years at Ivy Park at Cathedral Hill. They are very different. Providence Place is a small facility that focuses on excellent care, among other important things. Ivy Park, by contrast, is corporate, and spends money on marketing and open houses. Providence Place (PP) spends money on the residents -- on excellent and loving care, tasty food, and staff who are loyal and remain with PP for years. Staff turnover at PP is very low! At Ivy Park, however, staff turnover was frequent! We never knew who would be my husband's caregiver that day. Consistency of care is important in noticing subtle, but important, changes in residents. This can affect their condition. My husband's main caregivers at PP, Pia and Saul, are outstanding - loving, respectful, caring, patient, and kind. Catherine, the manager, is on top of everything, knows each resident and is very responsive. Often, she sends photos of my husband doing something that day. Twice a week a guitarist comes and plays live music, and an activity director comes 5 times a week to do activities with the residents, such as "bowling," balloon tossing, and coloring. In addition, the residents are bathed every day! This is amazing to me, especially because my husband is wheelchair-bound, but as Catherine says, "The residents feel better this way." It is true. Also, their teeth are brushed! This was not done at Ivy Park and there they were bathed only 2-3 times a week. My husband is a vegetarian and that is no problem at PP. The food is high-quality, tasty and varied. At Ivy Park, it was so difficult for him to receive adequate nutrition; the staff there took away the main course (non-veg) and gave him only the vegetables - no protein! My husband declined. He also became very dehydrated. At PP, however, he is stable and doing well. We are so glad that he is at PP where we feel like we don't have to oversee things. We trust the staff to do their jobs. It is a big relief!

In response to David's response: Interesting that none of what you posted David was said to me on our call. Angry, hostile and indignant behavior was all I received. On this forum you take the time to say this to the community. I've been in this field for over 13 years. If I'm with another dying client, most Director's will modify the protocol which doesn't affect anyone in the parties. indignant interaction with me is not explainable after the fact and my clients do not want this for conduct for their family.

He understands that moving to a senior facility is a major change. He will arrange for you to see multiple facilities within your price range, including discussing possible programs to help with costs. He works to find the best facility for the individual, showing real care that they will be happy with their choice. My aunt's friend just turned 90. He has multiple health concerns that have made it exceedingly dangerous for him to live alone in his home. He is also a very difficult person so the option of having a caretaker live with him does not seem reasonable. We looked at some options a few years ago, but he wasn't ready to make the move yet. Now his family agreed it's time. Brent, who worked with us previously, was happy to arrange tours of multiple facilties. He makes sure all of your questions are answered and that you have a full understanding of the services offered. He also recommends services to help with the move, clearing out your house, etc. He knows the resources that work best with seniors and persons with disabilities to lessen stress and provide support while getting the work done. Whether you are looking for now or planning for the future, Brent is the best person to work with so you can learn the options for senior and assisted living.

But at the last minute, my friend recommended Brent Hensley. He was a life saver! We had very little time and within hours he arranged visits to three facilities in San Francisco that would match our mother's personality and needs. He held a zoom meeting with my siblings and me to guide us in our decision making. He intervened when we needed help in convincing my mother to move. His knowledge and experience were invaluable in helping us to make very tough and agonizing decisions. Nobody wants to leave their home. And we felt so stressed asking our mom to do something she didn't want to do (but we knew it was not safe to have her stay at home). Three months later, just as Brent said, our initially resistant mother is happy and thriving at her new home. My siblings and I are relieved and happy. Amazingly, Brent's services are free for clients like us. We did not feel steered toward a one size fits all recommendation. Brent was sensitive and nuanced in his ability to find a great fit for our mom. His services are highly recommended.

I finally got to visit a year later when the facility opened up to visitors again. Mom and dad's room was large with a nice view of San Francisco. The large windows enabled them to watch the birds, fireworks on the 4th of July, and the annual air show.  I was pleased at how welcoming and open everyone was.  They encouraged me to participate in all aspects of life there.  I had some tasty meals, got to participate in an exercise class and attended a birthday party for one of the residents.  The caregiver that ran the exercise class was super enthusiastic and worked hard to get all the residents involved.  She threw a ball to different residents and after a while even the ones that initially seemed detached and in their own world were clapping and laughing and having fun. She is one of a core team of people who have been at Victorian Manor for many years that keeps the place running and ensures residents are well taken care of.
