An example of why assholes shouldn't own bars. I tell my waitress that my beer that was supposed to be in a can is warm, beer is not supposed to be warm. "The owner" comes to our table to find out what's going on, I proceed to tell him that my beer, which is supposed to be in a can is warm and I don't want it. He then tells me I have to still pay for this warm beer because once they open the can they can't give me an exchange. "The owner" stated this directly to me. I ended up paying for the beer and leaving immediately. Moral of the story, never order a can from this place, always get the beer on tap. read more

So three friends and myself go here on a Thursday night when it's not too crowded. We sit down at a table and look over the beer menu, our waitress bounces on over with a smile on her face to take our alcoholic orders. I'm pretty sure there was only five draft beers on the menu and I see you can get a beer flight of four half-pint beers so that seemed like a reasonable idea. I let our waitress know that I'm ready to take flight and she asks it, the question to which there was no answer... "What four beers do you want?" Now, I'd like to think that in reality only a few seconds went by, but those seconds felt like hours to me. My breathing became extremely heavy, I felt light-headed. My eyes began to fixate only on the outline of our waitress's body. Everything else in my peripheral vision seemed to continue to stretch infinitely until I could no longer make out the bar in the background, my group of friends, or even the walls of the building...just utter darkness and the glowing outline of our waitress. I remember thinking to myself "Why would she ask me this question? I just want beers. Why is she giving me questions and not beers?" I eventually managed to stop having a complete and utter out-of-body mental crisis long enough to mutter "You can choose." So, she brings us our beers and being the aficionado I am, I start chugging half-pints like they're shots and I eventually get to one that I must have thought was just exquisite because it broke me out of my attractive gulping stupor to turn to my friend, foam all around my mouth, and proclaim, "This one is pretty good." Naturally, he wants to know which beer it is so he can order one himself, but I have no idea what I'm even drinking, our waitress chose everything for me. So we call her over and ask her about the beer in question and she tells us that she can't be sure just from looking at it. This is where the Bronx Beer Hall goes from four stars to five. She reaches down and picks up my glass and takes a swig of my mystery beer and says "Oh yeah! I'll get you one of these." and runs back to the bar. Here I am sitting there thinking to myself "How did she know I don't have Herpes Simplex 1? Did one of my friends tell her when I went to the bathroom? No that's dumb..." Then it hit me like Cillian Murphy hits Rachel McAdams in Red Eye. She didn't fucking know. She took a giant herpes related gamble and it paid off, and that takes balls. I like balls. 5/5 read more

Great table service and friendly staff during happy hour makes it a win if you are looking for drinks. They let us sample a few beers and we both opted for the chocolate stout ale (and my wife usually hates stouts). We loved it! However, the experience went downhill from there. I tossed a few entree suggestions to the waitress and she suggested the burger with the fries. The menu described the burger as sirloin tips with ground sirloin beef along with hand-cut fries. For the price and the description, I expected a good burger especially as there were high quality butchers right there in the Arthur Ave Market (the restaurant is inside of it). However, after a significant wait, the food came out and my wife and I looked at each other and spoke simultaneously saying that the meal sure didn't look good. At first glance the meat looked freezer burned and looked like pre-made frozen patties. The fries looked an unhealthy color as well like it was fried in dirty oil. However, the portion size was quite large for both. How did it taste? The fries were just OK and the burger tasted bland and "stale." My wife said she knew that I didn't like it when I offered her as much of the burger and fries that she wanted three times (I'm not a big sharer when I love the meal in front of me and quite selfish). The waitress came by and asked how the food was. I replied "not that great." She said she was sorry and that she'd let the chef know and that she wasn't the cook. I thanked her and told her that I appreciated her service and that the beer was incredible and I'd come back for drinks. Anyhow, that was the end of that, and for the price on the menu, I don't anticipate ever coming back for food and I highly recommend that people stick to drinks, trivia, and chilling out with liquid beverages. read more

I like the Bronx Beer Hall. I only wish that I had have still been at Fordham when it opened. It's got a great atmosphere in the middle of the Arthur Avenue Market. So, when the market closes, the beer hall remains open and you're in a dark, creepy empty market. There's something ghostly fascinating about it. They serve craft beers with a handful on tap and others in bottles. I attended a catered event so I'm not sure if the food was from them but it was very, very good. They also host really fun events, such as trivia night! Brotip: The bathroom is located in the back and up a few stairs. It does get dark back there when the rest of the market closes. The beer was very, very good and so was the antipasto platter and the fries. So what was the problem? When the guys next to us got their food, they had to flag down the server to get silverware. Finally the server brought two sets of silverware for three guys. Then they had to wait again until the server finally brought the third set. Why did I care you ask? Because when we ordered our food, it was brought without napkins and silverware and we too had to sit there for way too long, staring at our food while waiting for silverware. What topped this was when we ordered a second beer. Mine was brought but my friend did not get this. After waiting quite a bit we waved down the server and asked about the missing beer. She told us that there were not enough glasses to serve everybody!!!! So my friend waited and waited and waited. This is no way to run a restaurant. I will not be back. Nestled right in the heart of the Arthur Ave. Retail Market this little gem is one my favorite places to grab a beer and a bite to eat(typically after a Yankee game). The music selection is always good and there's always a friendly crowd. The staff is welcoming, attentive and the owners (Paul and Anthony) are top notch guys! They also host a number of different events including trivia and karaoke nights. Highly recommended as a must try kind of spot! I read about this place and decided to give it a try. I though that it was neat that it was located in the middle of the Italian market. It does not live up to its name though. I wouldn't exactly consider it a beer hall. Also, with a name like that you would expect them to have lots of beer. They only had five beers on tap. When I asked the waitress what kind of beer they had she had to go and check. When she came back she said they had a lager, a cider, and IPA, a stout, and an ale. When I asked for more specifics like what is the IPA? She had to think about it. I then asked about the cheese plate. She said that it had three cheeses and was $14, but for $4 more we could get the antipasto, which had four cheeses along with a few meats. This seemed like a better idea, so we went with that. I should mention that the antipasto is not on the menu. This turned out to be a good choice. It was much bigger then I expected. It had two kinds of sopressata, prosciutto, fresh mozzarella and tomato, pecorino, provolone, and some olives. Overall this was an ok experience. Again not exactly a beer hall. I've been before and it was a pretty decent experience so decided to go again last night seeing as they had live music. My girl and I walked in, had to ask if we seat ourselves, the waiter directed us to an open table and then we sat. And sat. And sat. The waiter went to other tables, but ignored us. I got up and got my own menus - in front of the owner who said nothing! And then we sat. And sat. And when the waiter was busy talking to his friend and dancing while the rest of the staff just seemed like they were having a group hangout, we left. There was no way I was giving the horrible staff any of my money, let alone a tip. Do yourself a favor and skip the Bronx Beer Hall - they absolutely don't care about you unless they are completely empty, at which point everyone suddenly does their job. read more

This place is a tourist trap rip off, they have this weird tap beer price list with different prices depending what beer you order & the bartenders will overcharge you, I had the more expensive beer ($9 for a pumpkin ale) & my boyfriend chose a cheaper beer yet he was also charged $9. So since we had 3 beers each & the bill was $56!! I never spent that much $$ on 6 beers the market itself is cool but beware of this place!! read more

Went here this past Saturday on a trip to the zoo and Arthur Ave. Came back here to grab a beer before dinner after a long day at the zoo. It's a cool concept to have a place like this in the middle of the old market but it just does not seem to work out. It started off with very poor service after arriving. There were no clean tables so a server said they would clear something off for us, I ran to the bathroom while my gf waited and it took them over 10 minutes before someone actually started to clear a table (mind you this is a small place and had 15 patrons tops at the time). The only reason the table even got cleared was because another group of 4-5 arrived. We finally got a seat looked over the menu when the server rapidly told us the beers on tap (I didn't even understand her) and asked if we were ready. So we just went ahead and ordered things, the large group ended up getting their beers 5 minutes before us after ordering after, it took about 10 minutes to get two beers. I was already fed up but after finishing our beers and getting the check, which was, another time consuming chore. A server came over and cleared our glasses and menus in a very angry manner (no idea why)... We ended up paying at the bar and not leaving a tip and concluding together that this place really sucks. I think it primarily receives such raving reviews because of the lack of other similiar options within the immediate area, it also seems to get a l lot of Fordham students which makes sense, I can say I would not come here again. read more

I wanted to really enjoy this place, but I was pretty disappointed. It is difficult to locate, as it is in the middle of an open market inside of an unassuming building. This hall does not have an actual enclosed seating area. It literally is situated in the middle of this market where people freely roam about the beer hall and other establishments. It basically serves the purpose of allowing people to get beer as they shop in this market. The servers I dealt with last night seemed untrained. I understand this place recently opened; however, it is crucial to have a well trained bar staff at the very least. The two female bartends were unsure of the beers on tap and were not very knowledgeable about the beers after checking what they did have on tap. The place was not very crowded, yet these two ladies fell behind the crowd for the duration of my stay. They also poured the stouts the same as they poured their IPA... There were two NBA playoff games, Yankees vs. Mets, and Rangers playoff game 7 going on yet this place only played the Rangers and some soccer game on all 6 TVs. I'm unsure if they only have two cable boxes, so they can only show two games at a time. If that's the case, they should look into investing in more cable boxes. The only reason this place even gets 2 stars is due to the beer selection. I think it's great to finally have a place that focuses on craft brew, especially local craft brew in this area. I can think of a couple other places in the Bronx, mainly The Bronx Alehouse, but this is one of the very few places in this section of the Bronx. I am disappointed in the execution of this establishment, which is unfortunate because I really wanted to enjoy this place. read more

It is always really crowded and the bartenders aren't the most attentive people, but the beer selection is good and the venue is awesome! Make sure to come early to stake out a spot. They have several TVs as well as table and bar seating. They have a full menu and you can also shop at the surroundings vendors! They offer local craft beers on draft, flights, and various wines. This is a fun unique bar in the heart of Little Italy, very close to the zoo and botanical gardens. If you are in the area for classes or just to explore, this place is definitely worth a try! read more

This awesome place is nestled in the middle of this incredible Italian market. It reminded me of a restaurant in a mercado in Mexico. It had an incredible "somewhere else" feel to it. I can't explain it, but just know it's a great place to sit, have a bite, and grab a drink. I had the sausage fest, a bit pricey BUT worth it. They make the sausage on premises. A bronx staple, this place has a mix of everything - beer on tap, food and music. Did I mention a giant sized jenga. The staff here are all pretty cool. They have table and bar service. You can order off their menu or bring food in (especially after the in house kitchen closes). The vegan options are a little slim - the fries are pretty good. They usually have cider on tap, as well as other seasonal and local beers. The weekends are the best for music. The DJ is really good. He also takes request. There's not much negative I can say about the new Bronx Beer Hall. It recently opened and located in a great part of the Bronx (on Arthur Avenue). It's not slummy like some of the bars in the area, but instead has a beer garden feel to it (except that its located indoors). Great beers on tap. I highly recommend Captain Lawrence Liquid Gold or Keegan's Mother's Milk Stout. Both are very good and highly rated brews. In terms of food, you can't really beat the sausages. It is located inside the Arthur Avenue Little Italy market, for those that are not sure where it is located. The beer hall is not so much of a hall, but an area in the middle of the marketplace that contains the bar and several big wooden tables and benches. I was under the impression that it would resemble a beer garden or hall, but it unfortunately did not. My boyfriend and I decided to go here to sample their beer flights--the server described each beer, the alcohol %, and what it tastes like. In the sampling was a stout, which I am not a big fan of, so I asked if it could be replaced with another selection. I was able to replace it was a cider (not sure from where or what type). Overall, it was good. The food comes from Greco's, which is down the corridor of the indoor marketplace. I ordered the Bronx Bomb chili, and it was okay only because it was no longer hot when I received it. Overall, I enjoyed myself, but I prefer my beer halls/garden/bars with its own atmosphere and location. read more

It's slim pickings in the Bronx when it come to quality bars. This place is one of the better spots in the BX. Enough selection on tap for the pickiest of beer snobs and the bartenders and service are awesome! Had such a fun time here!!! Went for a first date, so obviously I was nervous. I got there a little earlier to have a beer and the bartender calmed my nerves right away! I love this place! What a find right in the middle of the Arthur Ave market. This is my go to spot when I visit the Botanical Garden. Solid beers from Bronx brewery and other NY microbreweries (for example, I tried an Ithaca draft which was very tasty!). Good is good = we enjoyed the chicken wings and sliders. The Bronx Beer Hall is quickly making a name for itself. As others have said on yelp, it has a great location. Situated in the middle of the Arthur Ave. Italian Market it's an amazing atmosphere. They use subway tiling and a combo of wood furnished tables. Seating is a bit limited later in the night, but a pint after work will treat you well. The food is delicious, I've only ordered it a few times, but it lives to the standard of the neighborhood. They offer some great craft beers from the NY area, my personal favorite is the Gun Hill Brewery or Jonas Bronx Brewery. Since its inception, it seems as if the continuously different selection has gone from excellent to somewhat mundane. It seems now that it's either Ommegang or Captain Lawrence on tap. That is fine as they brew great beer, but I miss the days of a constant mix. My biggest criticism of the Beer Hall is that the service sucks. If it is empty they are on top of their game, but introduce a semi-busy night and suddenly it's game over. It isn't as much of a criticism of the staff as it is one of the management. I think they need about 1/2 more bartenders working on their high traffic nights and maybe one or two more people working the floor as well. The beer hall is a favorite of mine in the Bronx Little Italy, it's new and it has to grow and find its way a bit, but if management listens to reviews and adjusts accordingly it will become a Bronx staple. read more
