This is a good hangout spot. We took some of the older kids here. They enjoyed food and I was able to eat here since I'm a vegan. The service was good and prices have gone up a bit, but you got a good portion of food. However, if you have a certain amount in your party, we had five, they automatically add the gratuity but still printed the bill with a space for an additional tip. Not for me. Rustic, hip hop Bronx ambiance. Which was the best thing about this restaurant. Stool seating in the front part of the restaurant. Rather uncomfortable for me. Not to mention they really pack you in next to others tables. They even tried to sit somebody behind us in like a mini table and both my party and the other party looked at the hostess like are you kidding me? We started off with a round of old fashions for the table. Beautiful presentation, however, we all found it to be way too smoky. I couldn't drink mine, I told my waitress (I won't mention her name for her privacy) she didn't even offer me something different. She wasn't a great waitress, rarely checked on us and being that we were sitting close to the bar and the kitchen we could see when our food and drinks were ready and sitting for a prolonged time before other kitchen staff brought them over to us. They automatically include 18% gratuity on the bill, so I guess she had no incentive to work for her money. Anywho, the menu was limited. No seafood option, I was hoping for some chicken fingers or fried shrimp but wasn't on the menu. I ended up getting the Buffalo chicken Mac and cheese and it was yuck. My husband ordered chicken and waffles, he said it was cold and the waffles were hard and the chicken lacked seasoning. He said it tasted like it was fried in old oil. The birthday boy ordered a burger and he said it was good (he'll eat anything though). My other friend ordered a fried chicken sandwich and he said it was okay. Both of their orders came with fries and it was not plentiful. We jokingly laughed and said it looked like they counted the fries to ensure that they each got 10 each lol. I actually liked this place. Took my girlfriend to celebrate her birthday - the first thing I noticed on the website it says reservations are recommended so I made one. The have pretty good seating outside but the inside is on the smaller side so I would suggest to make a reservation prior to going. The decor is cute with graffiti all over the walls (including the restroom). They also have TVs in the bar area with a couple of tables - it wasn't overly crowded which made us feel even more comfortable. We were seated immediately and ordered a glass of sangria. The sangria was ok - a little too sweet for my liking and my girlfriend didn't finish her glass either. We ordered a bunch of apps - garlic wings, buffalo wings, dirty fries and cheddar biscuits. To my surprise everything was hot and tasted good. I'm not big on biscuits but they came with a garlic spread and something like a blueberry spread on the side and they were both good. The wings were good as were the dirty fries. I was able to sneak away to ask the waitress to bring a slice of cake to my girlfriend for her birthday which she did and I didn't have to remind her. We came here as a group for brunch. We ordered a pitcher of mimosa and I was surprised when she brought the pitcher of mimosa with tons of ice in the pitcher. I could be wrong but I doubt it but mimosas are supposed to be served in champagne glasses and they are definitely not supposed to be served over ice. Went here for brunch on Sunday. Although it was empty when I arrived I'm glad I made a reservation, as they made it sound like they were full to capacity. The seating area in the back is pretty tight, so if you are a party of two be prepared to be in the middle and tight. Beyond that the service was quick and nice. Had the unlimited alcoholic drinks for $20 + my meal. The French toast was super sweet and soggy from the toppings. Definitely a sugar overload! Needless to say it wasn't bad but very soggy. Let me see......where do I begin? Oh I know...... Bronx culture as most of us know- is often underrepresented. And some people feel the lack of glitz it has- is probably why some skip coming to The BX entirely. But in recent years though, Artists, Developers and even Restauranteurs- are making some nice changes to The BX like you don't even know. And a lot of the new places popping up, are bringing something new and colorful to the borough. You probably thought Bronx Public only has chicken wings, burgers and fries on the menu. Wrong. Whether you're looking to turn up on the weekend or after work, Public offers a real creative spin in their Lunch, Dinner and Brunch options. Some past reviews complain about food, expensive cocktails, yada yada yada. Overall menu is small- but it's packed rather nicely with Vegan, Vegetarian, Poultry, Beef and pork dishes. And based on some of the earlier reviews, Bronx Public took shape right after Piper's Kilt fizzed out and went from that- into what it is now. The concept here recreates a bit of 1970s Bronx nostalgia with Graffiti, metal beams and chains adding a Fort Apache, The Bronx touch (I felt)- but taking it higher with wood plank siding. Service was pleasant during our party of 4 dinner. If anything, that's a 5!!! Garlic Chili Cauliflower was freaking brilliant. My 'Bee Hive' cocktail had some strength and could've used less ice. Hubby's Long Island Iced Tea, was too sweet and lacked proof. His 12oz NY Strip was cooked Medium Well, when he asked for M. Rare. The highlight was my Blackened Salmon cooked Medium and turned out to be very tasty. Just would've liked eating it from a regular plate instead of a bowl ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. While Music selection was very good, it was excessively loud and difficult not just for my table- but most definitely sure the rest of the folks in the entire restaurant, having a difficult time carrying on with a conversation. No hard feelings though... Here's a tip: you're not going to take away from The Bronx Public image if you lower the beat just a few notches. So ok...they may not have everything covered, but it was actually alright. Up to now, The BX Public seems like they have a nice track record and has become a nice hub for some folks. I came to The Bronx Public out of curiosity. I'm always on the lookout for spots in my borough that are against the norm and serve innovative food and aesthetics. I wasn't sure if that's what Bronx Public delivered, but I wanted to find out. That being said, I grabbed one of my brothers and we headed over to Kingsbridge to check it out. Situated on 231st St not far off from Broadway and the 1 train, Bronx Public looks kind of unassuming from the outside, but inside is a whole other story. As soon as you walk in, you're greeted by a large open space that houses the bar and a few tables, along with a smaller back room with more tables. The decor was a combination of urban aesthetics like graffiti and a homage to the borough - it's over the top in a good way, without being kitschy. Two of my favorite things about the decor are a huge mural by the kitchen depicting the Bronx's designation as an All-America City (which it was awarded in 1997) and a neon sign in the back room that reads "if it wasn't for the Bronx" (which I assume is taken from the Lord Tariq and Peter Gunz song). The menu had mostly what you would find at a casual sit-down restaurant: shareable apps, wings, some salads, sandwiches, and a few entrees. We decided to start by sharing sliders; we had the choice of chicken, veggie, or beef so we chose beef. Additionally, we were given the option to top them with cheese, bacon, and onions so we chose all three! The sliders were pretty good - I'm glad we got all the toppings because they added to the flavor profile, because the beef itself was a little bland and dry. I decided to take a risk and order the blackened salmon for my main, since I didn't really think this type of place would make a good piece of fish. The waitress talked it up when I ordered and I'm happy to say that my suspicions were wrong. The salmon was cooked well and served on top of a generous portion of rice along with some veggies and topped with a garlic aioli. The dish totally exceeded my expectations. Service was great, our waitress was attentive and friendly plus everything was served at a good pace. Overall, I had a great time at The Bronx Public. I'm glad a place like this is here and only hope I see more new, innovative spots like this open up in the future. Their brunch offerings look really good, so perhaps a return visit is in store for me in the near future. read more

All around a good time. Came here for brunch and I had a great experience. The vibes, customer service, food and drink were all pretty great. For drinks I got the passion fruit mimosa ( not pictured) and the iced cafe con leche with Baileys. Both were good, but my favorite was the mimosa. The coffee drink was great, but lost a bit of creaminess due to the amount of ice, but no big deal because next time I will just ask for less ice. For my meal I got the steak and eggs, which came with home fries. The steak was actually cooked to medium and the home fries were actually seasoned to perfection. I don't want pleasantly surprised because at most places the home fries are a bland afterthought. The playlist was great, although I wished there was a DJ. Our server was Natalie and she was so sweet and attentive. All in all it was a nice brunch vibe. Glad I didn't have to make the trip to Harlem or Brooklyn to enjoy a good brunch. This place used to better when it was under different ownership. We had to send back our burger and wings back because the wings were undercooked, and the burger was overcooked. When they came out the second time, they were slightly better but not the temperature we ordered. The burger was not medium, and the wings were still soggy. And then we were told that we could not cut the cake we brought even though we were told we could do so. The excuse was covid, which makes no sense. The service was great! I actually went on an off day (Monday evening) 1st reservation to make sure there wasn't a crowd. I felt safe being here during the pandemic. People trickled in, and the seating was spaced out sufficiently. Each table had its own hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes, which helped ease my mind on cleanliness. The staff was kind, patient and offered hands-free menu's. The food (bar food) was prepared quickly and well. For a bar, the menu was vast with multiple salad options, including kale, and novelty biscuits and butters (cheese biscuits with strawberry butter - as an example). Similar to the rest of the bar, the bar's 2 small bathrooms are clean and Instagram-able with plenty of reading material as you handle your needs... The theme of the spot is "The Bronx" and its roots in hip-hop culture. One wall features a huge black and white pic of a B-boy breakdancing. Inside, there is just enough graffiti strategically strewn about and neon lights reminiscent of familiar items and lyrics ("if it wasn't for the Bronx..." & the B-Side of a cassette tape). Outside, features a requisite rona-approved street seating as well as a "Live from the Bronx" graf wall. If it happens to catch your eye as you pass, go in, you won't be disappointed. Spot is located on the west side of The Bronx in the Kingsbridge area (just above Inwood). It's right off the Major Deegan expressway (-I-87) so there isn't a lot of street parking or a parking lot. And the streets are narrow. Fortunately there is plenty of public transportation; Buses # 1, 2 & 10 stop right in front or the No. 1 train, 231st stop, is a block away. The menu you now have to scan with your phone to download or see menu, they no longer offer free wi-fi, and the happy hour drinks are only Moscow Mule choices. My food was pretty decent, nothing to rave about because I don't remember my plantain chips being so long and crispy. My sliders were also a bit on the dry side, and I felt like my cheese was American rather than cheddar, but I've always like this place because of the environment and the drinks. I liked the although may not be new but new to me Mule drinks. I brought the Carmel Apple Mule, and found this to be very refreshing. It was sweet but not to sweet, the cinnamon and the ale portion added a real tingling pleasure to my taste buds. I know I would not dine here often but I do feel like it's a really good place for gatherings. I wanted to celebrate my husband's passing of the NY State Bar exam with some of our friends somewhere that had a good vibe and good eats. As he is originally from the South Bronx, The Bronx Public seemed perfect. I had originally planned to make it a private event and was working with their coordinator, but because some of my guests were not sure If they could make it on time kept it as a dinner reservation under the minimum for a private event. The DJ, the vibe, the food, and service were on point. Everyone had a great time and we were talking about how we may have found a new spot to hold other celebrations. However, 2 stars as I opened my email to find that the event coordinator and possibly other employees had accidentally hit reply all to a conversation about my party. I understand the need to let off steam, but, first off, please double check before hitting reply all.
