We dined in and also ordered a takeout meal to bring home. After we got home, I realized our server had forgotten to bring the takeout order to us. Mistakes happen. Our server was nice and they were busy, so I drove back to pick it up. When I got home for the second time, I discovered that the $26 takeout meal was incomplete. The container only had the garlic bread, and the side salad that came with the meal was missing. Since the restaurant is about 15 minutes away, I called and asked if they could simply credit me for the missing salad. Instead of acknowledging the mistake, the manager immediately questioned whether the meal even included a side salad. It does. I ordered it, and it's part of the meal. He then told me the salad was $1.99 and that he could credit that amount in 8-10 business days. Since he didn't offer a salad voucher for the future I accepted. That did not sound right so I checked the menu after hanging up, where I found the salad actually costs $3.50. At that point, it wasn't about $1.50. It was about the way I was being treated. Rather than simply apologizing and making things right, I felt like the manager was being cheap and patronizing. Then I got irritated. So I decided to drive back to the restaurant again to pick up the missing salad. When I got there, the manager confronted me and said he had been "just about to process the credit", I told him he said $1.99 and that was not the price of the item, So I just came and got it. He then insisted he had told me he wasn't sure of the price. That isn't what happened. He confidently told me it was $1.99. It felt like he was trying to rewrite the conversation instead of taking responsibility. Oh his parting words were not I am sorry, it was "good thing I didn't process that credit!" Customer service 101 lesson, a good manager should know the menu, own mistakes, and focus on taking care of customers. We spent around $100 on dinner, and I wasn't looking for anything free just the item I'd already paid for or a fair credit. I expect better for the price. ($18.99 for chicken and fries.) The missing salad wasn't what prompted this review. It was the repeated attempts to avoid responsibility over a $3.50 side salad. He should have put me on hold. Looked and the menu and offered a customer focused solution. In the end, the restaurant likely lost customers over $1.50, not because of the money, but because of him. Mistakes happen everywhere. How they're handled is what people remember, and unfortunately, this experience left me feeling dismissed and irritated rather than valued. read more

Heard from a local that I should check this place out. Didn't disappoint! Huge place, basically split in half with a sports bar with booths and a long bar on one side and more of a dining room on the other. I really liked the sports bar side. So many TV's! Lots of beers on tap. I had a smash burger (which comes as a double) along with waffle fries. I would highly recommend ordering a side of beer cheese dip for the fries (yum!) Food was great, bartender/server was friendly and fun. A little pricey (but it seems everything is now). Will be back for diner because I heard the ribs were good too! read more

We have been here at least 20 times since the reopening and it was always a good experience. Tonight was the second time we had horrible service in the last month. Also, the beer was flat with no head, the salad lettuce was wilted and brown, she brought sweet tea not unsweetened (what I ordered). She brought us someone else's mixed drink and we had waited a long time to be served. This was our go to place for a long time. Thinking of trying someplace new for a while. One star for the delicious coconut shrimp and one star for the very kind and happy hostess. read more

We had a celebration dinner for our 46th anniversary. The service was wonderful and the food hot, fresh and delicious! I ordered the Crabby Bull. It's a 8 oz steak with shrimp and crab meat in a white sauce and was delicious! It was perfectly cooked medium rare, fries where fresh and hot. Hubby had the fish a d chips meal. It was good too, the fish was in nugget form and he got onion rings instead and said they were the best he ever had! My sister had the salmon dinner, it was ok, the salmon had a funny taste though.We definitely will be going back in the future. Good brandy old fashions too! read more

Impressions - Since poshy, coursed-meal places are much to be desired, this is your best bet in the area. So, EXPECT a wait -- at least 30 minutes on weekends. They will take text you when your table is ready. Service - Our server was friendly, accommodating, and mostly attentive. She was running her butt off since they were short staffed. Eats and Sips - The salad was fresh and crisp. The rolls were warm and well buttered. Our entree salmon was seasoned perfectly and delicious. Cannot complain about our cocktails. Ambiance - BUSY. If you live here, you know that the Friday night "fish-fry" ranks right up there with Pasties and Friday night lights...only ALL year long...as far as a traditional meals- regional customs go...well The Buck Inn will NOT disappoint! It is well worth figuring out how to navigate the driveway...i called around first to see who was serving the "fresh" versions of the local fish ( perch and walleye) ...the whitefish appeared to be fresh everywhere...Buck Inn was in the minority here...most said frozen! Parking is abundant, there is a handicap ramp/access in the back. Friendly faces, prompt service..exceptional food...priced right. We ordered the perch...comes beer battered or corn meal coated...i did a 50/50 plate so I could compare...they were both pleasing but I was leaning slightly more towards the beer battered...it was yum! LOTS of seafood in the dinner portion, choice of potatoe..we had the mashed w/gravy and one baked potatoef, soup or salad...clam chowder for Mom...I had the cesear (Cole slaw was also an option)..baked beans- no sub here - came with a hot small loaf of bread - bread was dense and very good....didnt "get" the cinnamon butter that came on the side...I did love it with regular butter! Our waitress was excellent, my only apology is that I cannot remember her name...tip bigger here. The ladies work as a team and are very friendly, patient and efficient! Much of the U.P. is not good at tipping well...so just saying reward for this exceptional food and service. In need of a northern fish fry, my mom took me here when I got into town. I've been here before and over the years it has been remodeled to look pretty cute on the inside. It is rustic looking with antler light fixtures and so on. I love whitefish and cannot get it in the south so I ordered it broiled (that's the way I like it) with fries. It comes with cole slaw but I don't like cole slaw. My mom got the same and my step dad got the salmon. Our server was very good and when she brought out the food and looked at my piece of fish she said it was too small and was going to bring me another piece of fish. That was so nice! I would not have complained, but I was happy she did it because I had some of it that night, and the rest for lunch the next day. I don't know what kind of seasoning they put on the fish, but it had a slightly sweet flavor. I would prefer it to not be sweet but like I said, it was slightly sweet and I did eat it all. Another great thing about this place is they carry the local beer. I was able to get an Upper Hand UPA. I had wanted to try the local beer when I went home to visit and was glad they had it. A quick positive call out to this versatile restaurant. Arrived 45 minutes before closing, always dicey for getting both fresh, hot and not dried out. Selected the meatloaf asking if it was the "end of the pan." I was assured it wasn't and was pleased to receive a nice serving with hot mashed potatoes. And not salty as many are. New owners have a ways to go yet. Bread served with dinner was cold and hard to chew. Pretzels and beer cheese we ordered came cold and the cheese dip actually had a crust layer on it and it too was cold. My daughters sweet potatoe French fries were literally ice cold in the middle. Mashed potatoes and gravy.....yes also ice cold. Portion size has shrunk and prices have risen with new owners. We've tried it 3 times now since they've reopened and it was the same each time, so things aren't improving. The first time there we waited at the table for 35 minutes before our order was taken, second time we ate there it was 30 monites to give our order. We stopped in to have a quick dinner on the way home. Greeted with a smile when we walked in. I had to use the restroom before ordering and it was very clean and well taken care of. We both ordered burgers and a couple of beers. The beer was cold and delicious! Our food arrived and it was great! We ordered a Buck burger and Brew burger. Both were cooked perfectly! It's hard to get a burger cooked medium rare correctly. The fries were good too. This is not the first time we have dined here. I have had the BBQ ribs and they are my favorite. The Alfredo sauce is great also. I honestly have not had a bad meal here. I would recommend stopping whenever you have a chance. You will not be disappointed. read more

My brother and sister in-law and I went here to eat today and we had the worst service ever and what it is but every time we go there it's always bad service like today we asked our waitress 3 times if we can get a refill and she would say yes but move on to a different table and never bring us our drinks and when we asked a different waitress if we could get them she said yes and our waitress got snappy with us and said "oh well I was going to get those for you " like I'm sorry but we shouldn't have to ask you three times. I was left wanting... The good: I heard good things about this place and decided to try it out. The atmosphere was great! It was log cabin style, very clean, with a modern twist. My server "Becky L" was very attentive, informative, and very sweet. The beer was good. The sampler appetizer platter is a must have. I appreciate that they honor our service members with a discount. I like discounts! Lol! The bad: The main course. I'm a big guy and I like big food. I ordered a $19.99 plate of perch and shrimp. Now for 20 bucks I'm thinking that I'm gonna get tons of food and have left overs, right? Wrong. I got 3 small pieces of perch and 3 medium sized shrimp. I looked at Becky thinking there was some mistake and told her "I ordered the $20 plate. This looks like a half portion." She informed me that that was the $20 plate and apologized. The fat boy in me was extremely disappointed. I don't mind spending $20 on a plate of food, that's not the issue. The issue is that if I'm going to spend that type of money at a non-gourmet restaurant, then I better be getting enough food to need a doggie bag. Just saying. First visit to Escanaba and we asked the front desk where to eat with TV viewing (football) - "just down the road at Bucks" - well, my husband and I headed over to Bucks and found a very cozy and warm cabin feel once inside the restaurant. Several TV's adorn the walls, with lots of hockey memorabilia mixed in with the occasional stuffed wild animal. My husband had the walleye which he enjoyed and I just had a burger....not bad but have had better. The menu is extensive and varied - full bar and I was impressed by only paying $4.25 for a pinot noir (only in the UP.) - it was not the best of Pinots but drinkable. No complaints on the service, as our waitress was very attentive. If your there to watch the Lions football on TV, forget it, as COMCAST cancelled the channel and was not available to patrons.....no fault of the owner of Bucks. Haven't visited the Escanaba area in 35 years. My step-father's parents used to own it back then. It was your basic yooper bar and grill. When we arrived, they had taken the old deer sign down, covered the outside with logs and completely gutted and redesigned the interior. As a new restaurant, it was tastefully done in rich knotty pine planks and no more pool table. It was clean and service was great. I had a hankering for walleye and the mixed plate of battered perch and grilled walleye was great. The locally brewed 1919 barrel stock root beer was tasty and complemented the dish well (I had three of them!). read more

We ordered an appetizer which came out at the same time as the salad and the main course came out literally 2 minutes later, our salads had barely been touched. This is a great facility, but the food is pretty tasteless and clearly most of it is "off the truck". Our server was very untrained which didn't help. They have wine, but it is generic with no name listed - just the type - chardonnay, cab, etc. They are supposed to be open until 8, but they were piling chairs and sweeping all around us while we ate. This is a great northern treasure. The Buck Inn is a Escanaba, MI classic. The have a menu that reflects the hunting history in the area. There are hamburgers on the menu but the size difference is marked by the animal in the name. The Doe Burger is 1/4 lb burger that comes with the works. The Buck Burger is 1/2 lb and the Moose burger is a full lb of beef. The root beer that is on tap by the way, is a local brew. The atmosphere of the place is a hunting loge. love the food here. read more
