Great spot. Friendly, efficient and a nice selection of very fresh items. I had a yummy wrap so big half came home; my husband had a delicious salad. (See photo). We were pleased to find this cafe. We will definitely be back when nearby and highly recommend!

Cute, friendly place for breakfast or lunch! I stopped in for lunch after a chilly walk exploring the area. I ordered a cup of the brew of the day - chocolate caramel and it hit the spot. I ordered the grilled cheese with pesto on sourdough - hold the tomato and add chicken. The sandwich was great and served with a side of homemade veggie chips. Service was great. The only thing keeping it from five stars is the constant ding of the microwave.

You have gotta try this gem! The coffee was delicious- especially if you like specialty drinks. The cafe mocha & caramel macchiato were super yummy! Lunch soups, sandwiches, and salads were all tasty. The potato soup was fabulous and the chicken salad was tasty, too. They also serve wine and beer. It's a great gathering spot!

Had a wonderful evening at the after hours event at the Applewood Eatery! It was a full house with happy vibes. The staff were awesome with a cool calm and collected attitude and always a smiling. The food was really good too. I wish I could have gotten a picture of the amazing dessert but my friends made ninja quick moves on it! This is always a great place to go. The food has never once been anything but awesome, the atmosphere is trendy and the owner and her family are true gems. Easily my most favorite place to eat in the area.

    Bloody Mary and Peach Bellini

The husband and I discovered this cafe driving through downtown. The food, drinks, customer service was exceptional! The Pomodoro sandwich was the best I've ever had. Omelets are all fresh ingredients. Husband loved it. Their Peach Bellini and Bloody Mary's are top notch. Cafe very clean and quaint. So happy we stopped in. They have coffees too!

As my husband said, wide-eyed, "This is a freaking good sandwich." We were visiting Escanaba for the weekend and happened upon this place. We ordered a dirty chai, which was excellent & came out fairly fast. My husband ordered the Monte Melt, which he loved. He said the cranberry chutney reminded him of Thanksgiving. I ordered the chicken cordon bleu sandwich. The baguette was a little hard to eat, but that's just because I have a ridiculously small mouth. Both sandwiches were served with chips and a pickle. Everything tasted extremely fresh. We will definitely go back next time we are in town. Free WiFi is a bonus + local fair trade MI coffee beans.

Delightful menu of salads, wraps and sandwiches. Surprisingly inexpensive gourmet coffees and desserts. Mediterranean turkey wrap, chicken salad are lovely.

    Caramel macchiato and dirty chai

Great food and even better service. The staff was welcoming and personable. I had the caramel macchiato and my husband had a dirty chai both were delicious. We split a sandwich and it was clear the ingredients were fresh. I would happily return.

We tried the new tapa's menu at the evening service. This was so very intimate and romantic. Candle's lite the tables and a smile met us at the door. The service was very nice. We had ordered three of the tapa's which were the Satay Chicken with Tai peanut dipping sauce, The trio of soup shooters, and the Asian Sticky Ribs. We also ordered the Banana Foster bread pudding. To be fair we order the Cheese Plate to go the night before, although the cheese plate was divine this could not compare to the ambiance of this beautiful establishment so we decided to try it out in person tonight. The tapa's were pretty big portions and we love the fact that you can have the soup shooters which allows you to sample the soups they have. The soups we got (and it could change per night, not sure) were the tomato, and pumpkin, and twin potato, these were all delicious, with the pumpkin being are favorite for its texture and taste. The Chicken Satay was my favorite tapa by far. It was cooked to perfection, moisten and seasoned just right but the sauce made this dish outstanding. The Sticky Ribs was my husbands favorite, lots of meat and sticky goodness. Lastly the Bread pudding reminded me of Ohana's bread pudding at the Poly in DW. It was yummy, gooey, goodness, with lots of warm banana's and raisins and sauce and it left us feeling full but not overly full. I would highly recommend this place to anyone wanting a nice upscale feel, without the upscale prices. Very intimate and romantic. We have dined in many places and this will be our new night out for sure, in our own home town.

Our server was nice and they were busy, so I drove back to pick it up. When I got home for the second time, I discovered that the $26 takeout meal was incomplete. The container only had the garlic bread, and the side salad that came with the meal was missing. Since the restaurant is about 15 minutes away, I called and asked if they could simply credit me for the missing salad. Instead of acknowledging the mistake, the manager immediately questioned whether the meal even included a side salad. It does. I ordered it, and it's part of the meal. He then told me the salad was $1.99 and that he could credit that amount in 8-10 business days. Since he didn't offer a salad voucher for the future I accepted. That did not sound right so I checked the menu after hanging up, where I found the salad actually costs $3.50. At that point, it wasn't about $1.50. It was about the way I was being treated. Rather than simply apologizing and making things right, I felt like the manager was being cheap and patronizing. Then I got irritated. So I decided to drive back to the restaurant again to pick up the missing salad. When I got there, the manager confronted me and said he had been "just about to process the credit", I told him he said $1.99 and that was not the price of the item, So I just came and got it. He then insisted he had told me he wasn't sure of the price. That isn't what happened. He confidently told me it was $1.99. It felt like he was trying to rewrite the conversation instead of taking responsibility. Oh his parting words were not I am sorry, it was "good thing I didn't process that credit!" Customer service 101 lesson, a good manager should know the menu, own mistakes, and focus on taking care of customers. We spent around $100 on dinner, and I wasn't looking for anything free just the item I'd already paid for or a fair credit. I expect better for the price. ($18.99 for chicken and fries.) The missing salad wasn't what prompted this review. It was the repeated attempts to avoid responsibility over a $3.50 side salad. He should have put me on hold. Looked and the menu and offered a customer focused solution. In the end, the restaurant likely lost customers over $1.50, not because of the money, but because of him. Mistakes happen everywhere. How they're handled is what people remember, and unfortunately, this experience left me feeling dismissed and irritated rather than valued.

When we got there about 15 min later and they told the wait would be about 15 min, which is acceptable. They then sat us at a large table in the back, and basically forgot about us for an additional 20 min, then finally came and got our drink and food order. We were then forgotten about for another 45 min. No one checked drinks or came with water refills. We requested bread when we ordered and one in our party ordered soup, neither of those items ever came out. When our food finally came out, the pasta was cold and the pork loin was so tough it wasn't edible, maybe 3 bites were taken. We brought this to their attention and we were told 'sorry' but they did nothing to make it right. They also charged us for the soup we never got and the mushrooms that were ordered for a steak, that never came. They did take those items off the bill when asked. We also paid $8.97 for 3 CANS of pop, which in my opinion is absolutely outrageous. It was a very disappointing, and VERY expensive experience. We used to love coming, however this is the second time in a row that our experience was horrible and we will not be back.

I recently had breakfast at the Dew Drop Restaurant in Gladstone. I ordered the country fried steak…read morewith eggs over easy, hash browns, sourdough toast, and a freshly brewed unsweetened iced tea. The food was about what I expected. It wasn't exceptional, but it wasn't disappointing either. Everything was prepared as ordered, and the meal itself was perfectly acceptable. One thing I genuinely appreciated was that they serve freshly brewed iced tea. Living much farther south, I've always preferred brewed tea over fountain tea, and it's something that's sometimes harder to find the farther north you travel. Every so often I visit Gladstone to see my mother-in-law, and I enjoy supporting locally owned restaurants whenever I can. I was looking forward to a quiet breakfast by myself with a glass of fresh brewed tea because it reminds me of sitting with my great-grandmother years ago. Unfortunately, the experience took an unexpected turn when I received my check. Before ordering, I had specifically asked the server whether the tea was freshly brewed rather than fountain tea. When she said it was, I ordered it without giving the menu another thought. After years of traveling throughout the United States and Canada for work and eating in restaurants almost daily, I simply assumed brewed iced tea refills were complimentary, as they almost always have been in my experience. It wasn't until I looked at my bill that I realized I had been charged for each refill. I had two glasses of unsweetened iced tea at $2.99 each. Seeing nearly $6 spent on tea alongside a $13 breakfast was genuine sticker shock. At that price, the beverage felt more like I was paying for a premium drink, such as a beer or a margarita, rather than iced tea. When I asked about it, I was told the restaurant has to make money and that brewed tea costs more than fountain soft drinks. That explanation didn't make sense to me because brewed coffee also receives complimentary refills. Looking at the typical costs of operating a small restaurant, brewed coffee, freshly brewed iced tea, and fountain soft drinks all appear to cost only a few dozen cents per serving once ingredients, equipment, utilities, maintenance, and labor are taken into account. While every restaurant's costs are different, the actual difference between these beverages appears to be relatively small, so I found the explanation difficult to understand. This wasn't really about the extra few dollars. It was about the surprise of discovering the charges only after the meal and the inconsistency of offering complimentary refills on brewed coffee and fountain soft drinks while charging for brewed iced tea. I appreciate that Dew Drop serves real brewed tea, and I enjoyed supporting a local restaurant. I simply hope they reconsider this policy or, at the very least, make it much more obvious to customers before they order. Had I known refills were charged at full price, I likely would have ordered something different. That small change in communication--or a change in the refill policy--would have made what was otherwise an average breakfast a much more enjoyable experience.
