Great burgers and a table out of the rain saved what could have been a disastrous first date!

Look up "hole in the wall" in your Websters, and you're likely to find a picture of The Burger Shop, and somehow that's perfect. With about 4 tables, several counter stools at the windows and a few picnic tables outside, no one's going to be holding their wedding reception here. But ambiance and seating aren't what this joint is about. It's about great burgers and fries. I've been to The Burger Shop a couple of times, and have absolutely loved the food and the friendly, down to earth folks running the place. They're making what has to be one of the top three burgers I've ever had: super fresh, cooked to juicy perfection, with great fries. The last time I went, I ordered a chocolate shake, and it's the real deal, made with quality ice cream. This is a great little place with owners who make honest, high quality food. It deserves your business, and deserves to become a Wake Forest fixture. Give it a try! P.S. I am editing this in response to a review below that claimed that everyone giving The Burger Shop positive reviews is a relative of the owners. In a word: bullshit. I have NO connection to The Burger Shop, other than being a satisfied customer. Read my other reviews. They are honest and direct, as is this review. A great Burger in Wake Forest!! I and my two sons love the burgers here and this is tied with Shorty's in our opinion. It is a unique spot as well downtown Wake Forest. The burgers and fries are always good and the portion sizes are great. You won't be hungry after working this burger. Their list of items to add to your burger is better than most places. No seating now of course, order outside and they bring it out to you. Definitely worth a stop when you want a great Burger. Ways a coin flip between here and Shorty's. read more

Great first experience. Burger was tasty and fries were seasoned perfectly. A double cheese burger & small fries will fill you up. It's a small place. And if you go at rush hour (12 or 6) you're going to wait. But it's still worth the wait. We will be back!!! read more

Quick recap: hands down the best burger join in the area. Juicy burgers and high quality frenchy fries make this place a must go to place in wake forest. First of all the people there are friendly and down to earth. what they do is make great food at an affordable price. The place is small but don't let that deter you at all. Nothing special. I was a little disappointed. I figured the burger would be gourmet but I've had much better elsewhere.

Mix one part Eataly, one part smorgasbord and add a bit of Spanish flair and you have Little Spain. Its ambitious, maybe too ambitious, with a good overview of Spanish food (hits the highlights like paella, jamon iberico, etc) but doesn't delve deep enough to satisfy. Its good, but brings to mind the tapas hustle. You know the tapas hustle, let's serve you a plate that's smaller than an appetizer but charge you half the price of an entree. If they were just a bit bigger, they'd be fine but all the plates ran a tad small then an entree though way bigger than tapas. ( like a larger apperizer) Each stall offers a few items, with the cafe by the door a standout for its amazing deserts. It's a bit small for the crowds though if you wait 10 to 15 minutes your usually able to get a seat. Fun decor, colorful, and you almost feel like your in a market in Spain, especially on weekends with the crowds. Overall worth a visit, theres quite a bit of variety, and it's a unique addition to the NYC food scene, just wish the prices were a bit less. read more

Good quality meat and toppings, my bun crumbled apart but the other 3 burgers we got seemed to be fine so probably just a fluke with mine. We also really enjoyed their chili cheese fries...YUM! This place gets my vote for best burger in wake Forest. It does take time to get your food (10-15 mins if not too busy) but your order is always hot and fresh, which any good burger has to be. The fries are great and I highly recommend the fresh squeezed orange aid. This place is locally owned and the people are so nice, they always honestly want to know what you think of the food. First time eating here, my wife googled "burgers" in the Wake Forest area and figured we'd give it a try. Now my four year old eats Cheeseburger with only cheese and with fries and of course ketchup to dip all in. So I'd call her an "expert" on cheeseburgers and she told the lady working there that it was the "best burger she ever had!" Never actually heard her say that! A 98 health score is always refreshing to see and I'll be honest that was one of the best burgers and fries I've had in a long time! It was thick and fresh and cheddar cheese, slaw, chili and mustard was the way to go! My wife got mayo, lettuce and tomato and loves it as well. Great little burger shop in downtown Wake Forest. While my husband likes their burgers, I go there for their cheese fries, which they serve in a huge container with shoestring fries topped with creamy cheese. It's big enough to feed a family of four. Their burgers are juicy and perfectly cooked. I'm only giving it 4 stars because I prefer my hamburger buns toasted so they are not soggy when I bite into my burger. Other than that, their food is tasty and reasonable priced. There is ample seating just outside their shop, and it's indoor and cafeteria style. One thing to note is that they are closed on Mondays, which is something I wish I remembered when I headed down there today (Monday) craving cheese fries. read more

We were out for a night of shopping near Wake Forest and decided to give this place a try since they had pretty good reviews and a burger sounded yummy! It's a tiny little shop on one of the side streets in downtown Wake Forest; so, keep an eye out for it while you're turning down Wait Ave. It's easy to miss. They were pretty busy and do not have their own parking lot from what we could tell. The parking lot beside them said it was for Hardee's. There are spots available on the street beside them and another lot further down that you can park in; but, when it's a busy night, it can be hard to find an open spot. Something to keep in mind! The actual restaurant is a bit small. If you prefer to sit inside, it may not be ideal for a large group unless you're taking your food to go. If you're willing to eat outside, they have plenty of seating. Now to the food! You have options on the menu for a burger or cheeseburger; and, they have a lot of topping options for no extra charge. Two cheeseburgers with about 6 toppings each cost us around $13. The burgers were fresh from the grill and were pretty tasty! The toppings were fresh (lettuce, tomato, pickles, etc.) and the bun was toasted. They didn't last long, that's for sure! :) Lastly, the staff was really friendly and social with the guests. We also weren't sure of what we wanted on our burgers (being our first time there) and they were patient with us. read more

A great find in Charlotte! Was there for work and visiting my son that evening. We were looking for a good place for a burger near by so...Yelp! to the rescue!!! This place has been here a LONG time and Still is largely original. Well maybe not the employees, but the building, the sign, and the counter area. We ordered..../drumroll...burgers! And fries. They were great. Delicious, juicy, cooked perfectly, with the usual toppings to accompany. The fries were tasty if maybe a bit undercooked. I like a nice crunchy outside with a soft inside on my fry and these fell a bit short but that can happen. Nice outdoor seating area with shade umbrellas and there is indoor seating available as well. Definitely recommend trying this place and I think you'll love the old time feel of it all with affordable and tasty burgers. read more

We ordered three burgers, a large fry and an order of onion rings. To begin, I was disappointed they did not serve fresh brewed sweet tea. We were hoping for some good sweet tea with lunch. It took a while to get our food -- I'm estimating around 12-15 minutes and it was not busy. My husband got a large piece of gristle in his burger and then a piece of bone. After that it is hard to finish eating for fear of cracking a tooth. The fries were good. We did not like the onion rings. For the money - $23 - we won't be going back. Bull City Burgers in Durham is so much better and they have organic beef and excellent sweet tea. read more

The Burger Shop in Wake Forest is a wonderful, happy, delicious place! However, it is dangerously close to home. Just saying. Al, Jennifer and their staff are so welcoming each and every time I walk through the door! I love supporting local businesses and when they treat you so nice, it keeps me coming back. As for the food: the cheeseburgers are so delicious that I dream about them! :) I have tried many combinations and each is as good as the last! Al will make you one any way you want it. He also makes one of the very very best cheesesteaks in the area - again, any way you like it. We tried the chocolate milkshake today....slurp! Seriously. Cute, sweet, delicious, straightforward little burger joint in downtown Wake Forest. I ended up here after a long day of outdoor work, starving for a good meal. I was pleasantly surprised. The owners were hulled up in the tiny little kitchen/register combo situation inside, playfully bantering back and forth. I was a little concerned when I arrived and saw the substantial line of people and what seemed like the kitchen/cashier duo having difficulty communicating with one another, but right before my eyes they simultaneously took 8 orders and made them efficiently and accurately. Good stuff! I was also a little concerned I was going to get a plain Jane burger and some mediocre frozen fries, but I was (thankfully) mistaken in that preconceived conclusion. The fries were the perfect shoestring, slightly crispy consistency and I ate every last one of them. The burger was also perfectly cooked and seasoned - no fuss, just a straightforwardly delicious All American meal. There are some additions/variations that I'll likely try when I go back (if ever I find myself in Wake Forest for some reason again): chili cheese fries, regular cheese fries, slaw/chili, and milkshakes. Given my experience, I imagine any of the aforementioned would be a good choice. Heads up: this is not a place you'd necessarily come and eat with a group larger than 2. There is not a lot of seating, indoor or outdoor. The parking is also a little tedious - some woman sneered at me for parking in a spot (unmarked) that was apparently designated for police officers.
