Stopped here after golfing in Red Wing. Easy on street parking right downtown Hastings. Got a nice table inside on the windows so we could watch sidewalk traffic. Service was fantastic. I chose the California burger and asked for sautéed onions and they said 'no problem'. The burger was nice and juicy. Bread and veggies fresh. I went with the standard kettle chips as a side. My meal was good. Enjoyed the experience. I asked about the origin of the restaurant name and they said it came from the fact that they had shelled peanuts that patrons cracked and tossed. Stopped in here Mother's Day evening and we were slightly disappointed. The service was very fast, efficient and friendly. The food was a bit mediocre. The onion rings were really good but not $13 good. (Sorry there isn't a picture of the onion rings. There were nine onion rings and they were hand battered and fresh.) My patty melt was OK but nothing special and hubby's hamburger was good. I know all prices have gotten higher when eating out, but these prices seemed pretty high for mediocre food that just came with chips. read more

So honestly I can't speak for the state of affairs inside the restaurant. I've only ordered here when I've been in the area or across the street at Spiral Brewing. The food was always ready on time and the staff at the bar is friendly. The pizza is fine, nothing special, I wouldn't take a whole trip over to Hastings just for it but it's pretty good if you're in the area. Minus points because they cut it into squares instead of the obviously superior triangles. The stand out for me is the green bean fries, I know green bean fries aren't especially difficult to do and they're kind of the same everywhere but honestly not that many people do them so I'm always happy when they're available. They were great I've dipped them in their seasoned sour cream and was very happy with them. read more

I ordered the Philly with waffle fries and my friend ordered the fish sandwich with chips. The Philly was made from a frozen puck of beef and no one had any encouragement to at least chop the beef and mix it in with the peppers and onion along with the Au Jus being burnt to no return. The "seasoned sour cream" was just Lawrys season salt with sour cream. Fish was fine but didn't come with tartar sauce? And the chips were stale as cardboard. Had to check this place out. It's definitely got an old feel to it but with a newer menu! We ordered cheese curds and they tasted great, plenty of cheese with a light breading. I had the nut burger (bacon infused patty with peanut butter), it was a good burger just a little messy for me. Our waitress was very attentive and brought refills very quickly. Downsides: not a lot of seating and the group next to us had 4 kids that were not well behaved... It's a casual bar with good townie vibes, and we got a seat by the window for our group. Service was a bit slow but friendly. We were mainly here for a beverage pit stop, but got some food as well. Ended up in Hastings by accident on a Sunday. Two families and 4 small kids around lunchtime. Ugh, not a good formula. But in the nice, quaint center of Hastings, we found the busted nut and were able to get a seat on the patio. We all kept it simple as we did not know when our kids would pull the plug on us. The hostess got us a table and some high chairs and the server completely understood - get the food and drink orders in ASAP, we get out of here ASAP and there will be minimal screaming of children. We got cheeseburgers and beers. Everything came out quickly and exactly as we had ordered it. The beer selection was pretty good, too. read more

This was a really cool spot to check out. It is a smaller restuarant/bar right on the main strip of downtown Hasings with a lot of good food and drink options. From Cocktails, Mocktails, Beer, Bloody Mary's and other drink options they have a ton of options. The food all sounded great, so hard to decide. We ordered Elsworth Cheese Curds for the table and they were great and it was a large serving for an appetizer for 4 people. For a meal, I got the Chicken Tender Melt with a caesar salad. It was all very good, but would try a different sandwich the next time. I wasn't in the mood for a burger, but I would like to try the bacon infused burger with peanut butter. read more

The Busted Nut is one of my favorite restaurants in Hastings. We are locals and have been coming to the Busted Nut for years. Since the pandemic some things have changed -- but some for the better. For instance, in the summer they have an outdoor patio area that is open for public dining. (This was only added Covid.) It is such a nice addition and provides a nice way to enjoy eating at the restaurant outside on a beautiful sunny day! During the summer we typically choose the outdoor area if the weather is nice. The inside of the restaurant is actually quite dark and it's always been that way from what I can remember. I think it would be nice if they added some more lighting, but that's just my preference. As for the food, it's always been great and it's why we enjoy the restaurant so much! They used to have peanuts they provided for guests to crack and peanut shells used to be everywhere, hence the name of the restaurant. But since Covid they have discontinued offering peanuts and I'm not sure if that'll return or not. I don't mind that it's gone, because it definitely feels cleaner not having the peanut shells on the ground -- but some customers might miss it because it was a defining characteristic of the restaurant. Recently we had lunch on the outdoor patio. The service was great! Unfortunately my soda was flat and I was provided another one, but it was flat too. This was the first time I experienced that because usually their fountain pops taste great and are fizzy like you would expect. I hope they will fix whatever is going on with their soda. But otherwise, I enjoyed our lunch and I hope to be there again this summer while the patio is still available. read more

Service started about good but disappeared during diner and waiting for to go boxes and our check. Beer cheese soup lacked any distinct cheese flavors. Philly cheese steak lacked peppers and onions and had very little meat in it. My grandsons cheeseburger was ok as was my wife's blt and sweet potato fries and cheese curds appetizer. Now we have to have a tap beer (to accompany the peanuts, of course). We both picked the Walleye Sandwich for lunch: fried but lightly battered on a bun. Good food, good service. Cheese curds light and crispy but no squeak. Don't sit near the door or window because your chances of being pestered by flies is higher. What a pleasant surprise. Bonus surprise on the beer cheese soup! Soup was hot and tasty. How many times have you ordered soup somewhere and gotten a cup of lukewarm liquid. This was "had to blow on it" hot and piled high with popcorn! I had the Philly w/fries, wife had the chicken bacon ranch wrap. Both were obviously freshly prepared with quality ingredients. We stopped here for dinner on a Friday evening. The waitress was super friendly. The indoor feel/decor was pretty neat. They had a cool deal where if you bought a draft beer for $6, you would get a Busted Nut pint glass to keep. Pretty cool deal. There were 7 of us, so all sorts of different menu items were tried. I had the Hawaiian pizza. It was very good! My only qualm was how long it took to get the pizza. The waitress said it was my pizza that was holding up the meal. There's no notation on the menu that pizzas take longer, so that would have been nice to know ahead of time. My husband enjoyed his wrap, but he said the fries were just so so - nothing exciting. My daughter had the chicken tenders, and she seemed to really enjoy them. Everyone else enjoyed their food as well. I would definitely go back if I were in the area again. read more

First off this review would not be happening the stringy fake blond waitress was not so damn rude. The chili literally tastes like Aldo Canned dog food, my dog is too bougie she won't even eat that crap. When we mentioned it the rude waitress just brushed it off and walked away when we were gonna order something different. We were still charged for the nasty ass chili and when we asked about it she said not her fault we didn't like it. She was beyond rude about it when we weren't rude at all.
