We got 2 small buckets of rocks for $2 and went to the area to throw some rocks. The $1 a bucket was totally a great deal and simple enough without dropping major money on something so novel, but also really great. We were invited to try The Quarry Taphouse, what a fun evening at a really nice venue. I like the idea of tossing rocks at a wall full of fun things to hit vs. tossing an Ax, seems like such a better idea. We got a bucket of rocks to toss at the wall filled with lots of metal objects, a chime, some Tonka trucks. They also had a fun crane that you can pickup blocks and try to stack them up or build something. The venue is an old Hastings building that has a ton of character. The Tap Wall has a good variety of beers and ciders. They change them up weekly. The costs per/ounce seems reasonable. They have the types of beverage broken down by type (IPA/Dark...) which is helpful. The cost/ounce varies depending on what you are getting. We tried several different menu items and all were good - the three different kinds of cheese curds along with the wide variety of wings (both bone in and boneless). They also have a lot of great sauces to add to your wings or curds. I also tried the Caprese flat bread, yum. We also tried a couple of the specialty cocktails, I really like the Honey Jalapeno Marg! We stopped in for happy hour and had a couple great cocktail (Wrecking Ball Martini) and tap beer (Surly + stout). I see that they have some food options I'd like to try next time (cheese curds, flatbread pizza, or a burger). We weren't up to gnoshing on food tonight, but cheese curds are among those items I have a hard time resisting. So next time, I've got my eye on that: hand-battered and Ellsworth curds with caramel sauce. The vibe here is relaxed, and the building is historic (it's got some features that date back to the 1850s). After we ordered our cocktails from the bar, we noticed the pour your own beer tap wall with a rotating selection of 30 beers. Decided to give this place a try after seeing it on TikTok! We live way up in the north metro but I would say this was worth the drive for the fun! This place has free street parking but if it's the weekend, definitely leave early for parking. Also, this area is so cute! Lots of shops to walk to! And it's close to the river! The vibes here are very relaxed and chill. There is a large bar area in the center and a far amount of seating! This is a family friendly place, so don't be afraid to bring the kiddos. Walking in, we were greeted right away and brought to our table! Our server was Elaina. She was spectacular! She was serving multiple tables but did an awesome job checking in on us! She was very friendly and definitely made our whole experience! We would happily go back just to have her as a server again! The food: the steak bites were tender and tasted good in the blue cheese sauce. I would get those again! The Sunnies were also tasty! Get extra lemon! This would also be a repeat for me! The cheese curds were good but very crunchy. The Carmel sauce was great! Had an awesome sweet and salty vibe! I would try another flavor though! My boyfriend got the quarry melt and enjoyed it! We also got an old fashion and the cherry picker to drink. They were both good! I would say the food here is about what you would expect for bar food. Not over the top amazing but still very good! Stopped here after golfing in Red Wing. What a great place to stop. Street parking was easy to find. We ordered dry rub wings and a a smash burger to split. The wings were crispy and tasty. The burger had crisp edges and nice pretzel bun. We chose the waffle fries as our side. They were so good. We sat inside in a great table near the windows. There was a street side patio with umbrellas but we wanted AC after golfing. Service was excellent. I think our servers name was Elena and she was great. The only issue we ran into was it took a bit of time to get the food to our table. But we weren't in a hurry so all OK. Customer service went from every 30 seconds to none existent. Then we found out they were closing in a hour and all of a sudden the staff just switched from cleaning vs serving. We didn't order the rocks but we should have because at least they wouldn't have gotten that order wrong. The quality of the food is poor and is over priced. The bone in chicken wings were breaded and were under cooked. The breading was not what I expected. They have a IPA pour your own beer. Very expensive. I filled a 16 oz glass and the beer cost $15.00. The restaurant was nearly empty at 5:00pm. The wait staff was great and she refunded my chicken wings. Great new spot in downtown Hastings. I hope they can pull through as this location seems to be a black hole for businesses, I wish you guys all the luck in the world! And maybe luck won't be needed. They make a pretty mean burger. I came here for a work meeting and tried their bacon and cheddar burger. The bacon on the burger was thick cut and yummy, which is a good sign they care about their food. The blue cheese dressing I got on the side for my tots was homemade, another great sign of a good place that cares for their food. The only gripe I will give is that you couldn't customize the doneness of your burger, all burgers are cooked to the same temp - done. I like my burgers medium rare but the patty wasn't overcooked in any way. This place is also home to a unique and interesting way of entertainment/ blowing off some steam. You can buy a bucket of rocks and throw them at different targets in a special "shoot gallery" (ha, I am not kidding you). For only $5 a bucket, maybe not such a bad way of spending a night after having one too many beers? There is also a workable crane or dozer if you want to become a Tonka Trucks kid again. Whatever suits your fancy, this place is a good place in downtown to grab a beer and burger. read more

After a couple of cold beers, we ordered the drunken sailor sandwich and the half rack of ribs. The cheese curds we had as an appetizer were 10 out of 10. Besides the housemade ranch there was a caramel dipping sauce with the cheese curds. Sounds crazy, but it was totally addictive! The sandwich and chips were very tasty. We enjoyed cocktails, totchos and boneless wings before buying a bucket of rocks for $5 and heading to their rock range. You literally get to throw rocks at fun things- some items make noise, some fall down, it was a great date night activity! The totchos were so good I didn't even need ketchup and that's impressive since I'm a native Minnesotan. We had great service and were told the boneless wings are breaded in house daily and fried to order. They tasted fresh, had a nice light breading and lots of sauce options. Last week, we took our grandsons to the Quarry Taphouse for lunch and a surprise rock throwing experience and they were thrilled! They really enjoyed the rock throwing (what boy wouldn't). Tried it twice, 1st time I got boneless wings, dry as could be. Ate 2 and gave up. The second time I got a burger, the bun was very greasy like they dipped it in butter. The bun was so bad I don't even remember the burger itself. Probably will stay away for a while til they change some things then I might head back. read more

Previously, this was the Fireside Social House, which wasn't terrible. That closed a few months ago, and The Quarry Taphouse opened in its place so we wanted to try it. On 3/9/23 their website indicated it was "Coming Soon", and its only offerings were for pickup or delivery. This is inaccurate because I knew they'd been open for about a month. We decided to try it anyway. On the evening of our visit, we were directed to new booths which replaced the previous venue's high tops. The booths are relatively high, and there are no foot rests under the booths so our feet were left dangling nearly a foot off the floor which, for us, is uncomfortable. Next, we were instructed to use our phones to scan a QR code on the napkin holder in order to access the menu, and we were told we could order AND pay via our phones. After 5 minutes, we had yet to be offered an opportunity to order drinks despite a couple of employees walking around the relatively empty restaurant. Next, I scanned the QR code and entered my name in order to see the menu. I immediately received a screen (and a text message!) thanking me for paying for my order. Considering I hadn't even seen the menu yet, I was surprised that I was being thanked for my purchase. The message even allowed me to review my order which, thankfully, showed a zero balance with nothing ordered. We never were able to access the menu via the QR code. We continued to wait for another 5 minutes for someone to at least take our drink order, to no avail. Ultimately, we got up and walked out, choosing to enjoy a nice burger & Rueben sandwich at the Busted Nut bar just down the street where an actual server takes your order and makes sure everything is to your liking. I can't comment on the food here at the Quarry because nobody bothered to take our order. We'll try this place again someday only if there are no other places to try in the St. Paul/Minneapolis area. Kudos management: You have listened to feedback from me and hopefully many others and have added a HAPPY HOUR. Specials on apps and drinks from 3 to 6 pm is great. That is what we are used to at the old owner's FSH. I am confident that this change is not only welcomed by your guests, but also profitable by bringing you many more "regulars". Happy to know of this change. Your service is better too, not relying so heavily on using the code to order or pay. We enjoy personable customer service from staff and it seems that you have added more staff. The only reason I am not giving a 5 star rating this visit is because the wait time for paying my bill was excessively long as well as the initial time to order an app and drink. Unfortunately this is not the place. Burgers are smaller than a Macdonalds quarter pounder and for $15... syke!the shrimp app was totally bland. The food was all wrong and one of the burgers were missing all the toppings. Never got checked on after that. Beers are over priced and the rock throwing is a joke...
