I've had the privilege--both for work and for fun--of visiting many interesting places, including restaurants. That gives me a little insight into what makes a good restaurant, in addition to being a bit of a chef myself. My first time at Muddy Waters. A very cozy place with an impressive patio. The service was impeccable and very professional. Jessica really paid attention to every detail. Now, on to the bar. Unfortunately, I don't know the bartender's name. She made an absolutely delicious Manhattan--and I know a thing or two about Manhattans. When my lovely guest ordered a Sangria, it was almost an earthquake. I say this because in all restaurants--except in Spain and other countries that know how to make it--here in my country, they don't know how to make it. Sangria comes from the word "sangre," meaning "blood," which is red--unless you're royalty with blue blood. Just kidding! Everyone makes it with white wine and chopped fruit. In Argentina, that's called "Clericot," which comes from the English term "Claret Cup." Anyway, my congratulations to the excellent Lady bartender, who created a red sangria, her own way--delicious, refreshing, and very flavorful. Remember, sangria is drunk in Spain, mostly in places like Seville in the summer to enjoy that Andalusian sun. We ordered the Baked Brie. We thought we were going to get a dish just like all the ones we've tried at other restaurants--bought at the market and baked. This Baked Brie, however, is fantastic: custom-made and stuffed. I won't tell my readers what's inside--you'll have to go try it for yourselves. In a word: authentic, creative, and delicious. Another thing worth highlighting is the pork chop. Perfectly grilled. Very hard to find out there. Most of the time, it's dry and chewy. A suggestion,the Rack Ribs, I would cook them on the BBQ sauce. They were a little dry. Attentive and friendly service. Food was good, not amazing. I've been eating here for 17 years. The food started out at AMAZING. Consistent, fresh, and delicious. It has taken a slide since the original co-owner passed away then sold. The current staff is friendly and provides great service. Food? They are cutting corners. Example: Prime rib served with woody, thick asparagus stalks (no tips). prime was decent /-not amazing like it used to be. Walleye, not fresh. Mushy. Fish tasting. Signature coleslaw with large cabbage butts and ends. Not the thinly sliced l, carefully sauced salad that was served years ago. I like the staff here and want to see the place succeed. We visited on 7/11 at dinner time with our family. Sat there for about 12 minutes with no one coming to the table. We were right by the door and had servers passing us and looking at us constantly. This is my 2nd time coming to Muddy Waters but wasn't very impressed with our most recent visit. Our waitress was nice but should've mentioned when we sat down around 3:30 Sunday that the lunch menu would be ending shortly (at 4) to give us time to look over the menu instead of telling us 5 minutes to 4 that we needed to get our orders in now. I ordered an Arnold Palmer thinking they had regular unsweetened ice tea + lemonade instead I could tell they used the canned brisk ice tea with the AP. No bueno! Then I was excited they have some gfree options so I ordered the Rueben with fries...it was okay but nothing spectacular or unique. Hubby and FIL weren't too crazy about the coleslaw with their meals. What a fun place! Hubby (Bill) and I met two friends at Muddy Waters in Prescott, WI on Friday, Feb. 13, 2026 around noon. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Delightful, cozy decor.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Our lovely server recommended Yuengling Lager on tap which Bill enjoyed; Bill likes trying new, interesting brews. I had Bell's Two-Hearted IPA; both tap products were fresh and delicious. The female server recommended the Reuben and BOY HOWDY she was right! We've never had a more tasty Reuben our whole lives, and we order Reubens from time to time for years from numerous restaurants. My Baked Brie pastry hit the spot; so flaky, warm, comforting, and a change from the usual bar fare. The green apples were crisp and sweet, the baguette had the perfect crust on the outside and proper texture on the inside. We wish we'd discovered this gem of a gastropub years ago! We'll be back. As an aside, Thanks to the gentleman whom we asked on the street, "Do you know where Muddy Waters is?" From the front, this place looks a little nondescript. A sleepy storefront on Broad Street with a few tables on the sidewalk. Just like any of the others on the street. If you think that it's just another run-of-the-mill small food joint looking to turn a buck, then you're thinking like me, and that's not a healthy prospect. Never judge a book by its cover, for this book has a surprise in store. As you pass through the front door you feel as though you have to take a deep breath and walk sideways to move about. But though the inside is cozy, it's the outside where you want to be. Not in the front on the street, but out back. As you make your way in that direction, you'll enter into an explosion of seating options. The back opens up into a number of different levels, all of which sport spectacular views of the Saint Croix river. I liken it to a flower. You enter through the stem, and the restaurant unfolds into a blossom, each petal an adventure under the sun. The place is a feast for the eyes, as well as a feast for your inside. Our party consisted of three adults and two granddaughters. Our table was located on an upper level looking over the seating levels below. Just beyond that was as train drawbridge spanning the river. We saw two trains pass, and got to see the drawbridge in action allowing boat traffic to navigate their way up river. It was very cool. The menu at Muddy compliments its surroundings. The food as diverse as the viewing angles. Oh sure, there are the usual standbys, burgers and such, but also a variety of sandwiches and salads which are a cut above what you'd expect from a similar establishment. Don't let the front exterior of this restaurant muddy the waters on your decision making. You know that you're going to give it a try, so get along now. Quick Tip: There are two bars at the Muddy. One inside (the stem) and another outside in the bloom. It looks like a perfect place to party and tie one on. I would have done just that only I was with my son-in-law who has limited his intake. Seems he's taking the healthy road and wants to lose weight. I, on the other hand, have long since passed that turn-off. Indulging in his presence would be cruel. I'll return when he's come to his senses, or instead I may come back with his dad. He's as thin as a rail. Plenty of room for corruption. read more

Drive by this place all the time when we come to the area for breakfast, but we were stopping around dinner time on this particular occasion. Got in and was told there would be a short wait, even though there were plenty of tables open. I will say, I got to explore the building, though, which was actually pretty cool; the restaurant is on 3 levels. Was seated, took well over 5 minutes to be noticed to get anything to drink (and then those drinks were never refilled). Ordered, food took about 25 minutes to come out and it didn't seem like an overly busy night. Food was decent enough but nothing special, especially for how much it cost. As we were leaving, told the hubs it's not that anything was bad, it just wasn't good enough for me to want to go back. read more

It's hot out (98°) and the outdoor seating was pretty empty for a holiday weekend. We were quoted a 20 minute wait for indoor seating, but there were numerous tables cleaned and available. Maybe a shift change? We ordered several appetizers which were all amazing. Beer (Spotted Cow which is forbidden to Minnesotans) was delightful and I got to watch baseball on the big screen. Wow. Stopped for a late lunch on a Monday afternoon. I hade the prime rib chili and it was great. Big chunks of tender prime rib in a just spicy enough chili. I could eat that every day. My husband had the Rueben and said it was the best he's had in a long time. We will definitely go back. Have to mention the decor. It hard to compete with a view of the st Croix river but the ceiling covered in ornaments was hard to look away from. Go check it out before they come down in February. Great place for a date night and a Christmas light tour. read more

My husband and I have been here several times. The best thing about Muddy Waters is really the fantastic wait staff and patio, although the food is not usually disappointing either. We have had burgers, french dip, and the BB King Salad. The salad is not as good as it used to be; not as many shrimp, etc.. The burgers are always great as are the sandwiches and specials. And the mojito's are fabulous; I've tried the huckleberry and plain ones, as well as some red wine. We will definitely keep coming here; even in the winter since we live so close. read more

It is still a four But it's time for an update Hmmm....borderline five Not to be confused with the Muddy Waters in Uptown Minneapolis, but the quality is on par IMHO. I'm not a huge fan of eating outdoors and never have been, but if you are then Muddy Waters in Prescott is quite the treat. They have a gigantic multi-level patio on the backside of the restaurant which overlooks the confluence of the Mississippi and St. Croix rivers. Prescott seems to get a ton of motorcycle traffic, but the riders usually seem to go to No Name or Broad Street. Muddy Waters gets more of the boaters, locals and Twin Cities folks who are in Prescott that don't want to go to a biker bar. I have nothing against bikers, just not my bag. The food is spendy given the competition in Prescott, but I think it is worth the extra greenbacks. Had to go back to my standby the Muffuletta sandwich today. So good! Get this if you go here! If you don't like olives, ask them to hold the olive spread but it is what got me to change my opinion on olives. Now, I will get green olives on pizza and I used to despise them. One gripe is only four or five beers on tap. At least one of them is among my favorite - Rush River Unforgiven. I think the guy who came and bothered me about my Winnipeg Jets T-Shirt when I was sitting with my niece maybe had a few too many brewskies. Maybe it's just me, but I wouldn't bother someone at a Twin Cities bar for wearing Blackhawks gear. You do get some manners problems in the TC exurbs. read more

This place doesn't follow Wisconsin Covid mask rules shame on me. I should have left. I only read the top of the sign that they followed the mask rules. When I left. I read it more carefully. It said they assume if you entered without a mask you had health reasons. Everyone in the entire place had health reasons. Servers included. We were outside. It was 3:45 so it hadn't started to get crowded. The food was good but the flies were unbearable so it made eating unpleasant to say the least. Beautiful patio but for sure I will never return. Pandemic or not. If this is how they play following government rules, I can only imagine which other health code violations they break. I ate half portion, left rest behind and ran leaving most of my cocktail. Really, they deserve zero stars. read more

We were initially going to go across the street to Lucille's but since this is my favorite place to eat at Prescott I decided to leave there and come to muddy waters since it's my birthday. Kim was our server, we order the wings with Jamaican sauce on them and they were delicious. Then for our entrees we ordered the pepper steak and the pecan crusted chicken breast. The chicken didn't have very much taste it was pretty bland. Our server Kim came back and I told her I was very displeased with it and she told me that it was prepared right and that I would have to still pay for it. She didn't eat what I did so I feel she should have listened to what I was telling her. Also the steak as you see in the photo was not medium, so we took one for the team because we did not get what we thought we were paying for. I wasn't expecting much more than a typical pub night at Muddy Waters just based on my one prior summer patio happy hour experience, but this place surprised me tonight! We went with another couple for dinner on a weekend, and felt the food quality was better than other restaurants known for fine dining. We sat at the oversized corner table in the bar side, which was casual and cozy. Our server was engaging and always there at the right moment. Simply stated, the food was really, really good! My husband had the bone-in ribeye with au gratin potatoes. OMG those potatoes! Steak was cooked perfectly. I had the scallops and can't say enough about the nice char, and buttery sauce. The texture and flavor... some of the best scallops I've had! Not bitter. Soft and melted in my mouth with crunchy bacon on top. The broccolini and cole slaw sides were tasty as well, nicely seasoned. The parm crusted walleye was also a hit. We tried 2 desserts and couldn't pick a fav between the vanilla cheesecake and flourless chocolate cake. I'm a big fan!! read more

I had the muffuletta : stay away, it's a salami and ham sandwich served as a soggy mess with too much mayonnaise. The portobello / mozzarella capers salad was a waste for $11.95 it had about 8 mozzarella pearls (think raspberry sized) and about 8 halves of cherry tomato with an uninspired soggy portobello / balsamic mix on top of spring greens. Great view. Great patio. Again stick with drinks and ambiance but the food is really uninspired. Would not repeat for dinner or lunch. read more

I've come here frequently over the years and it's always great! All around! Super cool atmosphere, great decor that changes seasonally, and inside or outside seating. They even have music sometimes but I don't go them cuz it gets real busy at that time. I eat a vegan, gluten free diet and this last visit I had the Portabella Mushroom plate and it was delicious! The mushroom was grilled excellent and the drinks were amazing! They always fill your glasses full and have an incredible selection of wines! Their staff is very knowledgeable about ALL the menus. Muddy Waters has been a Memorial Day tradition for many years, getting there early, before the music starts, to ensure we get a table. We invited friends to sit with us and ordered food and drinks. Other friends stood by the table and ordered cocktails from it. In other words, we were "paying customers". After 2 hours we were told to evacuate the table as it was needed for someone else. We had intended to continue to dance and order more drinks. In the past, we recommended Muddy Waters as a fun place but we won't anymore, and we won't be back. read more

My wife and I had dinner last night at this restaurant. She ordered the walleye with pecan crust, augratin potatoes. What arrived was apiece of fish about 4 inches long, 1/8 inch thick. The potatoes consisted of 6 pieces about 1inch cube. All for 26 dollars. A week before, there was an attempt to call and email the restaurant about the menu with no response from the restaurant. Well - parking might be tricky, but it's never been too bad when I've been in this area. The staff were all certainly pleasant and the pricing and selection were both good. However, the tomato soup was amazing - WOW - simply the best tomato soup I've ever had - including my own. Food is fine but it's overpriced and the service we had was garbage. Took forever to even meet our waitress and get waters on the table. Then, each time she walked alway from the table she was gone for the longest. Took way too long to get anything done. Tonight there was music playing that was really good but way too loud! We were happy when the band took a break, this was the only time we could chat with our friends at the table. When the music was playing, it was literally concert level sound.
