Super nice place for a town that doesn't seem to have much. The restaurant was decorated very well, and had seating for a lot of people. We stopped on our way through town to have a drink and shake our legs from a long drive. Drinks were pretty reasonably priced, and the bartender that was working was nice. Wish we would have had longer to stay so we could have tried something on the menu because it looked like they served some pretty appetizing things. We may stop by on our way back that way. read more

We were just passing through on Hwy 84 & looking for a decent place to stop and get a good dinner. Seemed to be a local restaurant & was fairly crowded. Our waitress was very prompt & polite for having multiple tables. We had a table of 4. We ordered the Crispy Salad & it was just a taco salad with one fried avocado wedge. The steak was okay but the baked potato was cold. The waitress did offer to exchange it for another one or some fries but due to time constraints we kept what we had. The restrooms were in dire need of cleaning. Oh & the Crispy Mac & Cheese off the kids menu was 4 small pieces of chicken on top of a soupy cheese sauce. read more

Awful... awful... awful... we came to this restaurant at the suggestion of our hotel. We go in and they say it will be a 30 minute wait. We decide to wait thinking, this place must be really good. After waiting 15 minutes my husband went to the bar for a beer. He comes back to tell us more than half the tables are empty. My husband talks to the hostess and the reason they are not seating is is because the kitchen is backed up. He asks if we can sit down and have drinks at least... the answer is NO. The manager says go to the bar if you want drinks, we have our 10 year old with us, we don't want to go to the bar. The manager was RUDE the bartender was RUDE... The bartender tried to say my husband ordered two beers and tried to charge him for them when my husband only had one. Awful service, I can't speak on the food after 45 or more minutes we left and ate at another much friendlier, more efficient restaurant. read more

First visit, my boss paid for the meal, orderd qual with jalepeno poppers and calimari for us guys, 6 total. WOW ! ! ! The qual was fantastic and the jalepeno poppers were not to hot which allowed you to eat all three poppers and qual was cooked to perfection. I had the pork sandwich which was great. I was so impressed with the atmosphere and food, had to try again two days later. Had the qual and poppers as a appetizer. Main course was potato wrapped salman ?. This dish caught my eye and it was worth it. Spiral potato wrapped around the salmon layed on a bed of spinach and mushrooms with a sauce. Double WOW WOW ! ! ! ! ! . The catfish was amazing but the coleslaw tasted like it's been out and it kind of a cardboard after taste. We had family come in town for prom. We brought a party of 4 to the Butcher Block for a nice dinner and drinks. We knew it would be busy due to the celebrations in town and were prepared to wait. When we arrived the hostess had zero customer service. Unfriendly and did not greet us. I had to finally ask for a table. The hostess explained the 40 minute wait, which was fine. 5 more tables came in after us with an approximate 1 hour wait. 30 minutes into our wait, a loud, boisterous crowd entered. The crowd was for about 12 people. Immediately, the hostess and staff gathered and the rude crew was shuffled to their private table with drinks and a bottle of wine in tow. It came to be the owner. While I understand an owner getting special treatment, the complete disrespect for paying customers was vile. Especially during a busy weekend with paying customers waiting. It was a complete lack of appreciation for the $100 per person bill we paid. The food was subpar with a high price tag. The steaks are delicious but everything else was a Schwann's truck warm-up. The owner's son was the bartender and his drinks were not correct. They were reaching for good but missed the mark...especially for the $. Our waitress was scarce and never offered another round of drinks which we needed just to endure the lousy service. Our dinner was borning, overpriced, with lousey service. This has been my 3rd bad experience at this family owned business. We will never be back. read more

I had very high hopes for this restaurant because the reviews were pretty good. BUT..... My wait person was a young gentleman who I found out later had only been there for about 2 weeks....I ordered a beverage and 10 mins later he came back and said he had gotten confused and what did I want to drink??? This should have been a big RED FLAG!!!! I ordered the pork chops and a dinner salad. 20 mins later he brought my salad and 2 mins after that my dinner. He had spent all that time chatting with the girls over at the ordering computer. The salad was great! The pork chops tasted like they were on the verge of going bad before they were cooked...I only tried a couple of bites and that was it for that. Another 20 mins (he was still chatting) and I finally got his attention for the bill. He didn't offer to take the chops off the bill and I ended up asking for the manager who was very nice and took the chops off my total. I give it a 3 not just because of the food but I feel my wait person should have been given more time training as he had no clue of what "good customer service" should be. If I were coming thru Snyder again I would try this resturant again and think this was just a bad "nite". read more

I travel between Denver, CO and Austin, TX, and always make a point of eating here. Menu is creative, fresh and surprising for a rural road trip stop where mostly average cooks exist. Chefs are in the kitchen here and the food has always been good each stop, 5 so far. The atmosphere is stylish and comfortable and staff fairly good. I hope folks support this restaurant. Yes, it is not cheap, but I don't mind paying extra for fine food! Mostly I enjoy the seafood but next stop, I'll try the steak. read more

Dirty restrooms, broken booths, and poorly managed. Skip this place, you be glad you did. Worst three hours I've ever spent in a restaurant. Hostess clearly did not know how to seat customers in a timely and efficient manner. We were told the wait would be 15 to 25 minutes. It took an hour to get a table, and when we did it wasn't fit for normal human beings to sit at. The bottom of the corner booth we were sat in had been broken off to lower to seating. The table was of normal height. It took another hour to order and get our food. Normally I wouldn't complain, however the mutilated seating had my back and legs hurting so bad I could not enjoy my food when it arrived. The food was mediocre at best. My mother could not find her chicken fried steak through the gallon of gravy dump on top of it. The waitress was friendly, and helpful when she was around. Unfortunately management had her waiting on a large party in a privet room on the other side of the restaurant so she had little time for us. The men's room was dirty and the trash can was overflowing. My niece had to come back to the table and dry her hands on her napkin, the ladies room was out of paper towels. I complained about the broken booth to management and was told that is the owner's favorite booth. Others complain about it but they can't do anything about it because the owner likes it. I don't usually give terrible reviews on Yelp but I just have never had such a bad experience in my 50 some years of dining. We must have hit this place at the wrong time or something because not only was the service bad but the food was not good. We should have known that something was wrong when we walked in the door and the waitress said "Oh, I don't think we can seat you but let me check". I looked at my husband and said they are still open for 1 1/2 hours. Another girl came up to us and said right this way and we were seated. The atmosphere of the place was nice so we were expecting something nice. The waitress that told us that she might not be able to seat us was our waitress, yikes. My husband ordered the chicken fried steak with fries and I got the catfish and shrimp with their homemade slaw. The waitress told us that everything was made fresh everyday so that is what we expected. We ordered coffee and when it came in a clear mug we could see thtat is was weaker than tea. We asked for cream for the coffee but she said they were out so we asked for milk, she said they were out and kept saying that everything was fresh everyday (do they have a cow in the back?). We kept saying well you have milk to drink, right? Then she said they had a bus load of people and they drank all the milk. Ok, I'll drink it black. Second time we should have just walked out but no we'll give the food a chance since someone had given it such a good review. The food came and it looked ok but my catfish was terrible. The coating on it was dark brown and really had no flavor I couldn't eat it. I ate 4 shrimp which had a completely different coating and my cole slaw which was very good. My husband said the chicken fried steak was like chewing shoe leather and the worst chicken fried steak he had ever had since he moved to Texas 13 years ago. We hardly ate anything and paid $45.00 for lunch. Never again! read more

I stopped at this place on the way to the middle of nowhere for work. The building and interior must be pretty new. Its very nice and almost seems a little out of place in this small town, but hey, everybody needs someplace nice to eat. We got there before the dinner rush and were seated right away. The waitress was prompt in getting our drinks and order. I got blackened fish tacos and spicy ranch potatoes. The tacos were just ok. The sauces they put on them were tasty, but the fish itself was not very fresh, was overcooked, and it was just one chunk in the middle of the tortilla. The spicy ranch potatoes were really good though. I could have eaten a whole plate of them. My friend had chicken fried steak and said it was standard. My plate and the chicken fried steak were on the low end of the menu at around $11 each. Many of the other items were quite a bit higher, which I was not expecting in this town. I would give it more stars but I blame management, not enough wait staff, it seem that each time we have come they have some school or big party. The reservation was made for this big party or school team I figure they should be able to get the staffing for that. So expect a long wait for your food at least an hour. I'm giving 3 stars and that's pushing it. We ordered the poutine as an appetizer and it was pretty good. Everything came out back to back too. We both ordered the catfish and shrimp. The shrimp was great but the catfish was horrible! The smallest pieces I've ever had and burnt to a crisp. My mouth was torn up from trying to eat it. There was no meat to the catfish at all. For paying $12.99, I expect more. The best thing about my meal was the side salad with the blue cheese vinaigrette. read more

Absolutely awful. I'm from out of town, but my company is doing work near Snyder in the oil and gas industry. We had some downtime so 2 coworkers and myself went out to eat at 4:30pm on 4/11/17 to the Butcher's Block. First impression was it was a very nice establishment with very pleasing design and decor. Unfortunately, the food was terrible. My co-worker had fish or shrimp tacos (dont really remember), which he said that the main entree was good, but his roasted potatoes that came on the side looked like they spent 30min in a raging inferno. They were inedible. My 16 ounce NY Strip ordered Med-Rare w/ asparagus came out looking like a 10 ounce piece of chuck (there's now way that was a 16ounce strip), with 2 pieces of asparagus on the side. I couldn't even eat 1 piece of asparagus. I let my other two co-workers try it and they spit it out stating that it tasted awful and as if it was marinated in lighter fluid. The steak was rare (which under normal circumstances I wouldn't complain), yet something definitely tasted off. As if it was a piece of rotten meat "off" kinda way. My co-workers also confirmed that as they tried it themselves. And promptly spit it out. After being able to get a clear look into the kitchen which is behind the bar, and seeing that the majority of the entire staff was comprised of 21 and under employees; with no real culinary experience, we decided it best to not even send our food back and just call it a loss and never go back. PS, our 16yr old (or appeared to be) waiter, who took our orders by writing on his hand with a ink pen (apparently this place cant even supply order pads), really didn't seem too concerned when I told him the asparagus was not edible, and that the steak was truly the worst I ever had in my life. So bad I could not eat it, which was evident by 3/4 of it remaining on the plate. As stated, he must have not been too concerned as he simply returned with our checks after taking our plates. read more

As a local resident of Snyder, I try to patronize the local eateries with my dining business. Tonight (10/27/2018), I dined with my son and one of his friends. Sitting in the bar area, as we normally do, we placed our order. I chose the special, which was the Philly steak and cheese. Wow! This place never ceases to underwhelm me. Apparently the cook (won't use the word chef here) has not even seen a philly steak and cheese, much less had one. This was an absolute freshman attempt at a culinary icon. The meat was as bland as the landscape around here. No seasoning at all....this meat was then served with red & green bell pepper and onion. An embarrassing smidgen of cheese (not American or provolone) from what I can tell, again as it was such a small offering. Sadly, the service is good and they care. There is no such thing as a consistent meal in this place. What comes out of the kitchen is very hit and miss. Good luck with your dining experience. read more

Showed up with an hour to eat and get back on the road. We got our food ordered after about 5 minutes of being there and then waited another 50 minutes before 3 of the 4 of us were served our food. After dropping off the food that was ready the girl said she would go get the other plate. 10 minutes went by and we saw our waitress delivering other peoples food, taking other people drinks, and checking other people out. By this point the three of us had scarfed down our food trying to make sure we left before we were too late for our scheduled plans. And by the way the steaks were beyond over seasoned and salty and my baked potato was cold. We asked to speak to the manager to find out why an hour has gone by and we still hadn't received the other plate. The manager told us, rather rudely at that, that they had changed the oil in the fryers at lunch and that was why it was taking longer to cook his chicken fried steak. We had told them to cancel that order since we had to leave and she said ok and that she would take it off our bill. We asked why we weren't told when we ordered the food that the fryers were running slow and she said, "Sorry, we're taking the chicken fried steak off of your bill though to make up for it".... OF COURSE YOU SHOULD TAKE THE FOOD THAT WE NEVER RECEIVED OFF OF THE BILL!! I've been here a few times in the past and I have not once had a good experience. I just had a birthday and my sister told me to decide where I wanted her to take me to eat. I racked my brain and nothing sounded good Same ole same ole. Then I saw as I was driving down the street The Butcher Block. I remembered I had heard about it then. Someone had said it was too pricey and someone else said the food wasnt very good. I decided that was where I wanted to go. If it was too pricey we'd just go somewhere else and if the food wasn't good we'd never go there again. Well, it was AWESOME!!!!!!! My sister ordered the red fish and I ordered the chicken. No salt or pepper on the table which normally means the food is seasoned to where you don't need it. When our food arrived I felt like I was in Chef Ramsey's Kitchen. Oh my!! (Not the ones where everything is messed up and he's trying to fix it, but HIS kitchen. The presentation of the food was elegant and the food was WONDERFUL. I encourage all of Snyder and anyone passing through. Give this place a chance. I agree with Colin F. The best restaurant in Snyder. Oh yea, service was excellent. Oh, and 3 tv's are up and running. Give it a try. If you don't like it don't go back. If you do like it, you have a very elegant place to have dinner. If you like Cheddars, Chilis, Outback. This place isn't anymore expensive than those. And we don't have those here.
