The Butchery is an amazing store, well im not sure why but I truly enjoyed this store. We ordered lunch from the deli, two smash burgers and fries - took them home and I must say they were delicious. After ordering we walked around the store and checked out their meat counter...great looking cuts of meats, a large wine selections, and lots of nic naks. The store employees were very nice and helpful. The price for two smash burgers (double patties) and fries were a little under $38.00 which is not bad at all these days. This place has a large selection of meats butcher wise but fairly pricey. I came here to eat and got then house sandwich steak tips sandwich with fries. The sandwiches was good and I want to come back to try their pastrami. Their fries were kinda soggy and too soft. The tallow and salt was a good seasoning but disappointed with the fries. The staff was super friendly and nice and accommodating. The place has a plethora of bbq & sauces and spices. Not all encompassing but you can find some niche stuff there too. I've stopped into The Butchery before to pick up meat and wine for dinner, but this time I stayed for lunch--and I'm glad I did. Ordered the pastrami sandwich, and as you can see from the photo... I didn't make it very far before digging in. It was that good. The pastrami was rich and savory, piled generously, with melted cheese and great flavor in every bite. Service was quick and efficient (perfect because I came in hungry), and everything came out fresh. The ambiance is simple but comfortable--easy place to sit back and enjoy a solid meal. Came here for lunch today with a friend. I had the steak and fries. The stake was a little burned on the outside so I cut those parts off. Fries were good. My friend had the brisket sandwich which he enjoyed- the meat was sliced just right and the cole slaw was fresh. There was one thing I noticed that was concerning. An employee took his empty plastic water bottle and put the mouth of it where he directly drank from into the tip of water the dispenser. I told him that wasn't hygienic and he said that's what they all do because otherwise the water bottle won't fit. I told him again that's not hygienic and why and that a better option would be to fill a glass with water and the fill the water bottle. He did end up cleaning off the dispenser but if this is something that regularly occurs I wonder what other corners might be cut here. I'd at least steer clear of the water dispenser. read more

Went in here after passing by it so many times. It's so cute and bright and full of so many wonderful things to look at. I was assisted by Randy when I ordered an Italian sandwich- it was so delightful. The bread was so soft. Cash helped me at the retail counter getting some goodies and gift cards. Most of the reviews seem to be about the prepared foods, which looks amazing by the way! But I'm here to talk about the butcher/grocery side of the business. All the protein selections (meat, poultry, sea food & cold-cuts) are top quality and beautifully presented. The staff behind the counter is friendly and knowledgeable. They are very helpful with advice and recommendations. We came in for cold-cuts to make sandwiches at home and had some of the best roast beef I've ever had!!! In addition they also have a gourmet market section in the center of the store. If you are looking for any hard to find ingredients this is the place to find them. There is also a solid wine wall and large beverage selection. The entire shop is immaculate and there is plenty of parking in the large shared parking lot. This is one of my favorite butcher shops. I come here twice a week Monday's and Thursday for their brisket sandwich. highly recommended. Additionally, I get my deli meat from here. I recommend going to Peter if he's behind the counter. Very professional and slices the meat perfectly and layers it by three to four pieces within the lb for sandwiches. He's consistent, respectful, and it'd always a pleasure when he provides me with customer service. Everyone one is welcoming but he goes absolve and beyond. read more

It got to point where no matter how much we wanted provisions from The Butchery, we would go without because we simply didn't want to make the drive. Now we have The Butchery in our neighborhood! Excellent service, superb quality meat, poultry and seafood. And the cheese, oh Lord in heaven, the cheese is what dreams are made of. One could make a beautiful charcuterie and cheese board from the fantastic selection of crackers, sundried tomatoes, EVOO and salami options in the meat case. Wine, beer, and snacks, too. And if you have time, stop for a bite to eat in the café. Sandwiches, burgers, salads, fries cooked in tallow and a small selection of wine and beer on tap. Find an excuse to visit. I'm so glad I found this terrific market/café before my foot surgery because it is the most handicap friendly place to eat I have found in the Southbay area! Not only are their hamburgers absolutely delicious as well as their other menu items and deli options, they have great seating, smooth floors with no tile that makes it easy to glide on a knee stroller and large handicap, friendly bathrooms, that the doors aren't so heavy a woman can't open and close them by herself. I appreciate they took the time to think about those who have disabilities to make it welcoming and easy to maneuver. read more

They have a lot of imported and upscale items, as well as your everyday things to be almost a one stop shop. We came for the sausages they make in house daily and the sandwiches. Hubby ordered the smash burger with beef tallow fries. Burger was nicely cooked and smashed and cheesy. Comes with crunchy beef tallow fries. I ordered the spicy house chicken sandwich. Comes with nicely grilled onions and jalapeños, cheese, and Serrano mayo. It was good, I would eat this again. We've been coming for their steaks and sausages. They have a great selection and their sausages are made in house. Good and fresh. Service is always nice and helpful. They always have smiles on their faces. I've been wanting to check this place out since a foodie friend of mine raved about the food, and told me that she came back 3 times this past week to eat. The Butchery has high end quality meats at the meat counter, an array of sundry items that you wouldn't find in your local grocery store (well maybe some items at Whole Foods), a nice wine offerings, and a nice selection of cheeses. They also offer a limited selection of hot and cold food items which I came to get. After checking out the menu and talking to the young guy at the counter, he suggested the tri tip steak and tallow fries, which is one of his favorites. So I went with his recommendation and ordered my steak medium. It took about 15 to 20 minutes to get my order, even when it wasn't busy. There's plenty of seating and table to dine within the store. My steak was more on the medium well side than medium. Next visit I'll order it medium rare. The tri tip was flavorful and juicy, finished with sprinkles of finishing salt. The tallow fries came fresh and piping hot. They were good, but I prefer my fries more on the crispy side. The serving size is on the smaller side, so if you're a big eater, this will not be enough for you. The price for the steak and fries were $18 and change, not including tip. I'll come back again to try some of the sandwich offerings. The staff is very nice, friendly and helpful. Parking is plentiful. On my next visit I'll do a bit of shopping and also grab a bite to eat. read more

Absolutely unreal Taylor pork roll breakfast sandwich. $8 for a heap of crispy fried pork, melted white cheese, and a perfect fried egg on a large English muffin. The folks at the counter are super friendly and service was quick. They have a good little dining area to eat in the store too. I've also gotten steaks here a couple times and the cheaper prime steaks they have are a fair price and definitely better than what you can get at places like Costco or Whole Foods. They also sell snake River Farms, which is of course delicious but more for a special occasion. The grocery store more generally is really cool. They have everything you'd expect to see at a butcher, but they also have a little specialty food store in there that kind of reminds me of world market or a tiny slice of Eataly. IMO this spot is a very slept on gem in Manhattan Beach. read more

Shop is basically 5 stores in one, a premium butcher shop, a dine in limited menu restaurant, beer and wine shop, a deli and cheese shop and a grocery store. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff, extensive selection of proteins, beef, pork, lamb, poultry and seafood. Good wine and beer selection, deli counter with cold cuts and cheeses, extensive sp seasoning and sauce selections, gourmet foods. Glad they finally opened in Manhattan Beach. Prices on some items are very reasonable and consistent with the larger chains, meats are better quality than supermarket but prices are reasonable for the quality and cuts. Restaurant prices for sandwiches and sides are reasonable. Went in "just to look" and ended up getting some rubs and some proteins for dinner. This place is SOLID. Great food quality at the quick service counter, clean and chill atmosphere with excellent customer service. There are three part to this place; the shop, the butcher, and the restaurant. The shop is pretty much the main attraction, tons of excellent food and packaged goods. If you're looking for something special and unique then you'll find what you're looking for here. The butcher counter looked pretty epic. Very.. expensive. There's no way around that. I only wish there was a more extensive menu at the food counter that featured some of the meats for sale. Seems like a missed opportunity, but maybe they'll expand their offerings. We came here for the sandwiches. I was hopeful it would bring back some memories of Mario's in Irvine, but the menu was limited. Delicious food and excellent service. I was craving a steak sandwich with some blue cheese sauce or something and didn't exactly get that option. The House Sandwich was a very good cheesesteak. Stellar! Not sure what else should be said! They are nailing it.....went for lunch, got hot pastrami sandwich, and it was right! Also the Mac salad was great. The French fries were good too, but just French fry's.... The store/restaurant is exactly what we need around here. Don't have enough proper deli's in this area....and this is just that! Lots of great imported meats and cheeses and all the parts need for a real sandwich. Didn't get any fresh steak or anything else like that but I will. This place is not cheap, so be prepared for that, but as far as I'm concerned, it's worth it. read more

My husband and I live in Orange County and always go to The Butchery for holiday meal ingredients when we want to give our family and friends a really incredible meal. We're spending Easter weekend in LA and my mother in law really wanted me to make my beef tenderloin that she loves. We weren't sure where we could get such high quality meat and so we made the trek to their Manhattan Beach location. No good deed goes unpunished and so I of course left my purse at the store‍ After looking everywhere, I called the Butchery and the store's manager, Liz, confirmed that she had my purse in her office. With traffic, the drive was now going to be over two hours round trip. She so kindly took my purse to FedEx and mailed it to me. I'm so incredibly grateful to her!! I know the beef tenderloin we purchased will be delicious as always but this review is really a shout out for Liz! I hope she's appreciated there! I went in with the intention of picking up some steaks. It is expensive. Well they definitely had some pieces that were worthwhile. For example, the dry aged meat. The other steaks looked good, for the price seemed high and there weren't many out. It seemed a bit empty. There are lots of shelves with a lot of products that are unique in the middle of the store. Pretty cool. So after deciding that the steaks were a bit too expensive we looked over at their kitchen. The menu is small, which is unfortunate because the food was excellent. We had the house sandwich and the brisket sandwich. Both of them full of flavor very good very tasty. The french fries were amazing. Service was wonderful. The only downside is I don't think they have their mojo quite figured out on spacing and layout. It did feel empty, unfortunately, but it was clean. read more

And I'm not talking about your run-of the-mill "gourmet" items you might find at a Sur la Table or Williams Sonoma. I'm talking about hard to find spices and rubs and high end soy sauces and meats and cheeses and so on. Where else could you find Smithey cast iron pans, hand made wood cutting boards, flock chicken skin crisps, tomahawk steaks, and ... John Taylor's Pork Roll (yep!) all under one relatively small roof? It's a beautifully laid out store and the service was incredibly courteous and helpful. I did finally order the sandwiches. I tried the Classic Italian and the Spicy House Chicken sandwich. Both were excellent. Lots of tasty fillings served on a nice hoagie roll (locally made) that was both soft and chewy but also able to hold up to the fillings without falling apart. The meat here is definitely on the pricey side -- even compared to the ribeye steaks I usually buy from Whole Foods, it's about $10 more per pound. That said, I always come for their warm pastrami sandwich. The bread options are excellent, the meat is fantastic, and they also carry lots of cute grocery items that are fun to browse. This was our second visit to the butchery for lunch and neither time did it disappoint. It is very casual but the food is so good and fresh. Just be aware the kitchen closes at seven and the store at eight. I also love all of the gourmet food items for sale. It is always a nice place to stop. read more
