The restaurant itself is quite small, not much space but cozy. Service could have been better, it seemed like one person was managing all orders. I had super high expectations. I've been to Delhi & Mumbai over 160 times for work. I love traditional Indian food. The birayni was very good. Spot on spices. Could have had more chicken in it. Chicken was pull apart tender. The butter chicken. Was good. Good base of spice. Maybe more yogurt in it. More chicken too. I'm a fan of the chicken thighs. The garlic naan was nothing special. This restaurant was highly recommended by a friend and I love Indian food so I ordered take out from here. Portion size and pricing was very reasonable and food was very delicious. I tried the garlic naan which came in a giant piece that was cut in half. I got the chicken kadhai which was sautéed with bell peppers, onions and tomatoes. The medium spice level was spicy but very tolerable and not too hot. This entree came with a container of rice. I tried by friend's butter chicken and it was creamy and delicious as well. We went to this place after seeing a post on instagram and was very disappointed! We got 3 dishes and 3 naan and it cost $90. The portions were on the small side and didn't have a lot of meat in them - they were mostly sauce. 4 pieces of lamb in the vindaloo, 4 pieces of chicken in the chicken curry, and some slices of chicken in the butter chicken. Not welcoming at all. We went inside hoping to sit down, but the atmosphere was extremely uncomfortable. There were only two couples dining, and they just stared at us as if we had walked into their home instead of a restaurant. Despite the fact that they were still open for another hour and a half, we were told to leave. The food is authentic and very tasty. There are numerous varieties of naan.. we're always up to try something new. Mango lassi we never pass up. We ordered take out for the first time from this restaurant tonight including butter chicken. The butter chicken arrived with 5 tiny thin pieces of chicken, most of the dish was sauce. This dish cost $20. Called the restaurant to see if this is normal or if they could at least credit us something back which they declined and were not interested in helping us resolve the issue. Ordered the butter chicken and a coconut fish curry here. The food was fairly good here, and the portions were generous. It is a but more expensive than what you can get in Edison though, and the food is not as flavorful. Still, I think that this is a better option than the other Indian spot in downtown Westfield. Surprised that they named the restaurant after their Butter chicken, because this dish actually was just mediocre. It was much too sweet, and didn't taste very flavorful (lack of spices). I've had better at many other places. On the other hand, the coconut fish curry was quite good. I'm not sure how they got the coconut flavor because it was different to other coconut dishes that Ive had (hard to explain, but the flavor was a bit more artificial, as opposed to being as if they cooked the food with coconut milk), but it was still good. Finally dined here after ordering take outs from them during the pandemic. Still tasty like how I remembered it! We got the Butter Chicken and Lamb Tikka Masala which are both creamy and flavorful - we opted for mild spice which I love. You really can't go wrong with these two options. We also got the chicken and lamb biryani and opted for medium spice - definitely a kick there after the 2nd/3rd bite and it just layers throughout. Love all the flavors but just didn't care for some of the huge seeds that I would bite into - inside it are little peppercorn-looking seeds and when bitten, they make the dish so much more spicy. I could probably do without it to make eating much more enjoyable. This place is pretty casual. They have 3 tables on each side and most of their dishes come in take out containers. Great lunch date with my wife. Incredibly flavorful food. Everything was fresh to order, great spices and veggies to round out the flavor. We started with veg. samosas and Tandori mushrooms. Samosas we'e great, but we couldn't get enough of the mushrooms! Piping hot and wonderful. My wife got the lamb Rogan-josh, and loved it. I liked the smaller size, so they give you 3 instead of 2 normally. The butter chicken was just okay and thus the 3-stars. It was a tad sweet for my liking and the chicken was a bit dry. Considering they named the restaurant after this dish, I was hoping to be blown away. It was only okay.. and quite pricey for this dish compared to other Indian restaurants!! While a bit pricey for the portions, the food is reliable and definitely will be added to our restaurant roster when we're craving Indian. Garlic Naan- well cooked, nice chunks of delicious garlic and overall just good naan. One order comes with two pieces. Butter Chicken- whats great about this place is you can choose your level of spice- a game-changer. I ordered mine spicy, and it was a good level. My husband can't eat as spicy as me but thought it was a doable heat level as well. I enjoyed the flavor. The chicken was cut into strips vs chunks and still had some texture to it vs melting apart. Lamb Kadai- this came with lamb chunks, peppers and onions. The flavor of the sauce was good, had some subtle ginger flavor to it. The lamb was cooked well, and melted in your mouth. It was a bit lamb forward in flavor but my husband enjoys lamb so he liked it. I mostly like lamb and it would have been too much for me as a full meal. Disappointed . Had high hopes for this place. First time we ate in it was ok. The butter chicken is good. But everything else sub par. We just ordered some chicken sheikh kebabs it looked like they were made and reheated to burnt. See attached picture. Kebabs were dry and black on outside. Paneer had no flavor no salt either, very bland taste. The chicken kebabs were disappointing too. I think anything from their clay oven is not great. Any tandoori chicken or chicken kebabs came out extra and black and Burnt outside therefore u have no more flavor left when eating that. Naans were flavorless and burnt too. Think better places for Indian food is still in Edison area. Or even spice bazaar albeit pricey had more flavorful food. Quite happy with the food and service here so far. After a couple of takeout meals, it's becoming a regular source of tasty filling food. Granted some, if not all, is very Americanized and toned down in terms of spice, but thankfully you are given the option to increase heat levels, which is a nice touch for someone who enjoys hot, spicy food. Ironically the one item I don't recommend is the namesake dish. The butter chicken is pretty bland and boring. If that's your thing though, then by all means try it. Ultimately though, I haven't really had a bad dish out of the 6 or so I've tried. Portions are reasonable, but prices are somewhat high. With the cost of staying in business these days it's something we all have to accept. read more
