I have been to Flying Boots many times before and have enjoyed the food, which makes what happened today even more upsetting. At 4:36 PM, I placed and paid for an online DoorDash pickup order. The confirmation stated that my order would take approximately 21-31 minutes. When I arrived, I used the restroom and then waited for my food. I was then told that someone had already picked up my order. I tried to explain that this did not make sense because I had JUST placed the order at 4:36 and had the order details on my phone showing the time. Instead of calmly checking the order information, the situation escalated. I was told to move my vehicle from the handicap parking space. I am currently dealing with a disability involving my hips and knees and am still waiting to receive my handicap placard. I moved my vehicle as requested. When I returned, I showed them my order information again. Rather than simply checking the tablet and resolving the issue, I felt talked down to, intimidated, and humiliated. The manager raised her voice at me, and other customers began joining in, telling me that my order was gone and that I needed to leave. I was ultimately told to get out. As the only African-American woman in the establishment at that time, I found the way I was singled out and treated deeply disturbing. I cannot speak to anyone else's intentions, but I can absolutely say that the experience felt racially discriminatory to me. I felt surrounded, threatened, embarrassed, and treated as though I was the problem simply for insisting that a prepaid order I had just placed be properly checked. And then came the most frustrating part: when they checked the tablet again, they discovered there had in fact been a mistake. My order information had not been handled correctly. After everything that had happened, there was no meaningful acknowledgment of how I had been treated. The manager's demeanor suddenly became calmer and she offered me a drink or water. I declined. I paid for my food, and I had every right to respectfully ask what happened to my order without being yelled at, embarrassed, or made to feel unwelcome. Flying Boots needs to take a serious look at how situations like this are handled. Read the order information carefully before accusing a customer of being wrong. Verify the facts before escalating a situation. And above all, treat every customer with dignity and respect. I came in to pick up dinner. I left feeling humiliated, intimidated, and deeply disrespected. For a place I have patronized and enjoyed in the past, this experience was absolutely unacceptable. read more

Heard they had great wings. Sat down, was immediately greeted and asked what we wanted to drink. But unfortunately, when the beer came out, it had a funk to it. I'm not sure how often they clean the nozzles on the taps, but it needs to be done more often I would think. we ordered the wings, when they came out, they were piping hot, and we were excited until about the third wing in for each of us. After the wings have been on the table for about 10 minutes, the honey jalapeño started to congeal, and the other flavor breading just started to fall off. Great Tacoma semi-dive bar. I say semi because they make food till almost 2 in the morning, which is pretty awesome. And they had karaoke right up until 2 o'clock in the morning which I thought was pretty nice. This one has been on my list for a while. Have passed it by many times, I love the neon sign, It is so retro. Entering the place I felt it to be clean and huge with lots of space. We really went there for the wings, which is something that's always on our list. A few things were a disappointment and we decided we need not go back to again. The service was prompt, but not attentive over time, our server was not very warm in fact cold. Seems you need to be a regular. The wings were crunchy and not to our liking. However the onion rings were great, thru probably frozen style. I am glad that this is a true institution for Tacoma and it should continue that way. Flying Boots & Wings! What a place. First of all it is more for locals than anything else. Is it a dive? It sure as hell is. Plenty rough around the edges. Was it clean and tidy? The tables were all clean and ready to go. The counter tops were wiped down and clean. The floor is old and warn but was swept up pretty well. The bathroom? Well, to be honest the bathroom was pretty much a dirty, broken down outhouse with graffiti scrawled on any available free wall space. Maybe if at all possible make sure you do your business before you get here might be a good idea. The waitress was really friendly and helpful... maybe a little on the slow side but I was there visiting with my Son so as long as she kept the beer coming I was ok with the "slow" part. There was a mistake on my order where she brought me fries instead of the tots that I ordered but she promptly made it right. The Food? It might be that with all the covid stuff going on these days I have been craving a burger for months but the Western Burger and Tots I had really hit the spot for me quite well. Would I return? Well, I was comfortable enough but after all was said and done I would probably seek out place without all the issues. read more

Pretty bummed about the last few experiences. I want to start by saying I've been here in the morning/early afternoon and the staff was super nice and helpful. Every time I've come at night though, it was a completely different experience. Brought a bigger group in at night for karaoke, the bartenders were so rude and the whole party felt like they were ignoring us on purpose while helping other patrons. Wanted to bring another bigger party in a few weeks later for a celebration, because of the first experience we called earlier in the day to verify that bringing in ~15 people would be okay. The lady I spoke with that morning sounded very excited we were bringing in a celebration and assured us it would be fine. It was not. The same two bartenders were there and treated our party so poorly. They blatantly ignored us to take others' orders and made rude comments to multiple people in our party. All of our friends and family were made to feel so uncomfortable they were afraid to order drinks. My partner tried to get a glass of water on multiple occasions and the bartender refused and said there were not enough cups. 20+ minutes later and multiple glasses returned and the bartender still refused to serve us WATER. The worst part was the blatant transphobia. The bartender ignored the name given for the order, took the deadname off of the ID, and when corrected continued to yell out the deadname; making our friend very uncomfortable. We really like that they do karaoke nightly, the wings are sooo good, and the friendliness of the staff in the daytime really made me not want to give up on this place. Flyin Boots does have probably my favorite wings ever, but the service is soooo bad that I stopped coming here, which is craaazy because I came here ALL the time for about a year. I am not exaggerating when I say that 90% of my experiences were weird, unpleasant, and/or frustrating. I'm convinced the staff HATE when people place any orders for food. It's so strange. They also are extremely rigid with certain things: like, they won't toss an order of 12 wings in 2 separate flavors. I've been nothing but pleasant when I go in there, but it's the weirdest thing in that I swear when I walk in there to give them business, they're pissed! Can't echo this sentiment strongly enough: best damned wings in Tacoma. Fiance and I moved in up the street a few weeks ago and had our eye on this place. Totally struck the jackpot on our neighborhood watering hole! Inside is clean, if a little basic. Beer is cold, and they have a solid selection. Nothing earth-shattering, but you're not coming here for 100 taps that'll blow the wax off your Portland friend's mustache. Mac and Jack, Irish Death, etc. Apps are solid. They hand make their own jalapeño poppers and mozz. sticks - and you can get pepper jack instead of mozz, which is fantastic. Haven't tried them yet, but I trust they're great. Poppers are good flavor, but take solid bites, they fall apart pretty easy. The wings - wow. They're perfect sized, perfectly breaded. They put a single layer of breading, so you get good crunch without worrying about it being KFC. Every sauce (aside from sweet chili) is made in-house. I found the honey jalapeño to actually not be sweet at all. Good level of spice. The smokey chipotle is great, very well made. The sticky fingers - that's my ish. It's something like a sweet chili, less chili. The garlic parm is yummy, the sauce can get a little goopy. We really, really dig the clientele. Get the boots buffalo and jalapeño honey...eat the buffalo first and save the honey for dessert because they may as well be. Fan-f*cking-tastic. I won't be looking for a wing spot anymore. Rudest service I've ever had. Karaoke Hostess was very nice, the regular singers were friendly. The waitress arrived to take orders, and we said we didnt want anything, twice. She then told us that if we weren't going to spend any money, we had to leave. I sang my song (killed it), and walked out.
