Visited July 17th..see receipt. Such a cute shop with tons of salt water taffy! We had just had a big meal so we were looking around to see what they have. They have BARRELS of taffy! They also carry candy and other goodies. I love nostalgic candy even though I am about 135 pounds but like a nibble here and there! We were under a time constraint so I just bought bubble gum that lights up..like when you were a little kid! The nice lady at the register gave us some history of the store and how long it had been around. Very interesting! Be sure to look at the old photos when you visit! If you love taffy in all sorts of flavors than this is your spot! So much to see! read more

What a fun find while walking through Old Sac! Personally I am not a salt water taffy fan, but if you are, this is the place to go. I enjoyed the vibe of an old fashioned candy store. They had so many other options to choose from, popcorn, gummy candies, gum balls, jelly beans, and a variety of drinks. This is a kid's dream come true. It's like that candy store in Diagon Alley that sells chocolate frogs and butter beer. Yes some items are overpriced but some are properly priced, like the jaw breakers! I was starting to get worried about prices but it's ok not too bad when compared to other stores in old sac. A walk down the memory lane for me. I see so many familiar candies/chocolates here when I was a kid that you don't see at the local supermarket. Charleston Chews, old fashioned hard stick candies, rock candies, Necco Wafers, etc. They also have a huge selection of salt water taffies. Any flavor you can think of - they got it! Candy Barrel has a dizzying variety of sweets!! From individually bagged candies, chocolates, gummies, salt water toffees (priced by the lb) to national and international candies and chocolates and everything in-between. Your sweet tooth is bound to be satisfied. Staff are friendly and offer assistance, which is great when you need a sample to make up your mind. We stopped by here as we were about ready to leave Old Sac. A relative decided to stock up on candy for the kids' Christmas stockings. There are a lot of different types of candy here but they don't have tons of chocolate candies. That's ok. There's enough stuff here for pretty much anyone to find something they will like. The prices are a bit high but most stores in high tourist areas prices are a bit higher. Still, it's worth a look. read more

A sweet little shop Nestled in The Old Sacramento waterfront. They have a big selection of taffy both sugar and non sugar in the old wooden barrels for you to pick and choose to your likings of your tasty buds. While this is not why we come here it is actually for the jelly bellys. They have a good selection of the ones we like more and the freshness has been great. They do have some nostalgic candy and more around. So if you enjoy taffy and jelly bellys this is a good spot to hit up. Parking is the usual on downtown find it and take it lol. And for the hours, I'm not a 100% sure but they have been open when we stopped by. But best luck would be weekends and later on the day for weekdays. Who doesn't love a candy shop? This store is small and cozy and has nice little buckets for choosing your favorite candies. Don't get me wrong, they have got some interesting items but overall I was a little disappointed. It's a candy store, there should be more candy. I found much of the selection to be boring. I understand that some 96 year olds like boring old butterscotch hard candy, but I can find those anywhere. I want all the cool candies, all the never before seen candies. They definitely have quite a lot of different candies. Some candy can be bought online for a tiny bit cheaper but it's the old sac experience that makes it all worth it. And the price difference isn't reallllly that much so you might as well get the experience of going to a candy spot that smells soooo amazing and has soooooo many choice. Hard not to find any candy you wouldn't like. It's got candy for everyone and every taste. read more

After visiting Munchies just around the corner I was really let down coming here as not only is the selection smaller but the staff were not so friendly. Not once did the 2 young males working (I use that word loosely) take a break from their conversation to greet us or see if we needed help. We were clearly trying to get their attention to ask if they had a particular candy after walking around the store looking. One of several several salt water taffy/fudge/olde tyme candy barrel stores in old town Sacramento. Parking is street only. Usually there is space available if not right in front, then around the corner somewhere. For those times when everybody in the whole world is trying to be in old town, there is a parking garage facing capitol mall. If you do get the parking garage, ask about getting your ticket validated. Sure it only takes fifteen mins or so off your parking fee, but every little bit helps. This place distinguishes itself from the other candy barrel joints by having better decor-there are some super awesome carousel horses scattered throughout, but also by having a large selection of fudge and a small high powered collection of jelly bellies. Also the old town standard of ridiculous amounts of taffy, saltwater or otherwise. Pricing for pretty much everything is by the pound, so it's a decent place to go crazy with the candy. read more

If you are a tourist, then definitely worth popping into the store to try out the candies. It says over 100 flavors of candies, chocolates and confections. I didn't see 100 flavors but there are barrels of candies. It's a nice spot to come and get something for friends and families or if you have a sweet tooth. They had every kind of candy imaginable- the best selection - there prices were reasonable and the two men that were working were very kind ,very friendly and also informative on the many questions I asked ! This is time you should be open. I called Mark earlier in the day to let him know that I would be there to pick up some candy between 4:30-5. He reserved some candy for me and I came around 4:40pm and it's closed. It's Christmastime. And you knew I was on my way to pick up some specific candy and it's closed. Check your reciept before leaving. I grabbed about 4 candy that would have equal to 5$ and some change. My son ran out and I went to get him. Cashier said total was around 10$. At first I didnt notice the price and then I thought wait that is too much and I asked for the reciept. Immediately the cashier said oh I charged to much. I did not mention being charged too much yet but she already knew that she overcharging me. She took the opportunity to charge me more because I was distracting by my son. She didn't hand me the reciept and said she will give me the difference which was $5. She said the item was $0.50 but rang up $5 but still continued to charge me 5$ even though she knew it was $0.50 read more

This place seriously rips you off. There's a reason why it's almost empty most of the time - locals and tourists alike know that the prices here are not good. For example, licorices here are almost $4, but the candy store around the corner is $2. And they will not let you return anything, because they know that you'll eventually figure out that there are better prices just around the corner. read more

Lots of saltwater taffy options that are quite tasty and, for a pretty good sized bag with lots of variety, not too expensive. There are a few candy stores in Old Sac, particularly saltwater taffy ones. We only visited this one. There were no free samples allowed, which made me sad cause I read on Yelp about Old Sac that most candy stores do allow sampling. Do your research before going, but if you waltz into this one I imagine you'll do just fine. read more

Not too much of a fan for salt water taffy but I do like the banana flavor. If you love salt water taffy then this is the place to go. They have a few dozen flavors to choose from. Just pick up a bucket and fill it up with your favorites since it sells by the pound. What's I liked about coming here is that they validate your parking for the garage if you spend more than $5. Hey now that is a good deal, it's like stealing candy from a baby. read more

A nice selection of salt water taffy and other candies. Even some throwbacks you don't see in regular stores, so fun, tasty nostalgia! All of the barrels make it more enjoyable somehow too.
