Heard about the New Mexican counter and gave it a try. The chicken tacos and chicken quesadilla were excellent and very flavorful. Carnitas tacos also good. Kids liked steak tacos. Red and green salsa were very spicy, so be careful. Refried beans were very bland and chunky texture with lots of white bits was unappealing to our group. Okay, so ever since this place went under new ownership and became a more Latin market, it has become the go-to spot for not just Mexican food but for food in general. As a market, it's great; they have a wider variety of Mexican goods than any other store. Prices are whatever; you're paying about the same price as you would anywhere else. What really makes this place shine is their deli and restaurant. The meat from the deli is always fresh, and there is honestly no better spot to get meat for cooking in Davis. The food they serve there is amazing. I have never seen higher-quality food served at such cheap prices. It's a mystery how they're profitable. The meat they use comes straight from their only deli and is fresh. They are extremely generous with portions, so much so that whenever I have brought a friend in, they are surprised by how much food they are getting. The employees are so nice as well; they'll ask you how your food is and even offer to top off your drinks while you're eating. They're eager to show you how good their food is that they'll often ask if you want to sample any of the meats. They're always open to adding any extra toppings onto your plates at no extra cost as well. In this economy, it's incredible how you can get a filling meal with meat and veggies for only $10. Two solid stars for the owner because he's a genuine great representation of the establishment and very friendly towards customers and community. Although the food on the other hand has gone down and quality control since the beginning stages of opening being somebody who works in the industry observed cooks cross contaminate, not wash hands, touch raw food and cooked food and believe it or not got sick once from going and still gave it a shot since I liked, the owner and food was pretty good, but have not gone back since also the place looks very dirty in the kitchen. Food was great in the beginning but last few times were very mediocre. Not the owners fault. It was the cooks in the back. read more

Prices remain too high at this store for us. I don't even run in for milk or bread. It really is too bad that a budget grocer (like an Aldi or Lidl) couldn't go into that space, especially since it is next to a Dollar Tree. We did try their take out burritos one night. They were ok but could have been warmer. We still prefer Guad's or Dos Coyotes. I am open to updating my review in the future. read more

I totally enjoyed my first visit here! I'm staying nearby at a buddy's place while I wait to move into the Sol and I decided to give this place a visit after work for a quick bite to eat. I walked around the whole store before walking by the deli. I've never been the type of person to buy a pre-made deli sandwich, but I noticed one of the sandwiches was on clearance for $3.99. I saw that deal and HAD to take advantage of it. I got a Gatorade Zero to go along with it. After eating that sandwich, I would be more than willing to get it again and pay full price. It wasn't super duper fancy but for how simple it was, it was a really decent sandwich. It especially tasted good with a little mayo, which I'm also not usually a huge fan of. I'm glad I was able to try something new and get a kick out of it. I'd definitely want to come back here again. read more

We needed a quick dinner to-go, so we got food from the Nepali Cuisine kitchen located inside WestLake. Service was really friendly! Got Saag Paneer and the chicken fried rice. We felt like the portions were generous which is always appreciated --and still ate it all in one sitting because we enjoyed it so much! My partner said the samosas were a bit homogeneous in texture though. We also requested medium heat/spice, but it was not spicy, so would ask for more heat in the future--or maybe it got left out... not sure! read more

This place is wonderful. It's more expensive than a chain grocery store, but it's family owned, and they have items that regular grocery stores don't carry. Things that come to mind are more varieties of Haribo and a huge selection of granola that you can bag in the amount you want. Also, they're so friendly. Makes you feel cheerful buying groceries :) when I was wandering around, someone asked me if I needed any help. After he had helped me, he asked if I needed any more help. This place is cute as a button! I stopped in to grab some things for dinner, and I really wish I had discovered it earlier simply to look at all the stuff! They have a lot of items that you won't find in Safeway. Beer selection looks killer. Produce was beautiful. I love this grocery store because it really does remind you of a mom and pop place, which is very comforting. The other thing is, you can TELL these people take PRIDE in their store. As a former retail worker myself, I especially notice tidy shelves (that front facing is on point, you guys!). The store is wonderfully organized and neat. It's obvious that the workers care about maintaining and cleaning. Also, the guy who rang me up was super nice. He was tall, had reddish-orange hair, and wore glasses. Really friendly. Overall, yes, the prices are more expensive because it's a small grocery store, so I understand that. Would I be able to shop here regularly for all my groceries, no. I am giving them 4 stars because I feared when the long-time owners retired the new owners might let the store get run down. So far that has not happened. It has been a pleasant surprise. This store has high prices and you have to watch the sell by dates on the produce, meat and dairy carefully, but it serves it's purpose as a full-service neighborhood store when you don't want to battle crowds at the chain grocery stores. Westlake Market is the perfect neighborhood grocery store. The staff are extremely friendly and really get to know their customers- many of them know my name and they go out of their way to help. Jeannette always have stickers at the register and a high five for my kids. Candy makes sure they have the right brand of chocolate milk and make sure to ask if I can find everything I need. All of the staff care about the customers. The store is smaller than the large supermarkets but they do a good job of keeping it well stocked and it is so convenient to get in and out. You can alway find a parking spot right out front and I almost never wait in line. This is a local gem. read more
