What a hidden gem! Out of the way and attached to a liquor store, I was pleasantly surprised to find the atmosphere warm and "comfortably classy", and live music added to the vibe. Solan took such great care of us, A+ customer service!! Starting with a cocktail from the fall menu, I absolutely loved my Reese's Old Fashioned! Every dish we tried was delicious. The pan seared walleye was served over gnocchi in a lemon dill sauce - probably the walleye we have ever had, and the gnocchi was fantastic. The center cut blue cheese steak was cooked perfectly, the blue cheese paired so well with the candied bacon. All of desserts were great - crème brûlée, caramel mascarpone cheesecake, and the tiramisu dip - yummy! read more

We came to check out the canopy lounge off of a Facebook recommendation. The food was exceptional. I had the beef loin tips with onions and mushrooms on mashed potatoes, the flavors were fantastic. The Canopy Lounge was introduced to us by friends who live in Brighton, and it's worth the trip up from A2 to revisit! Located just outside of the main downtown area, the Canopy Lounge is hidden in the back of a parking lot. It's a well-kept secret, but one worth sharing. The ambiance is like a cozy sports bar with a rustic twist. There are several options for seating (high top tables, bar in the back, and a lounge-type area up front with a sofa and some easy chairs. We decided to sit in the lounge type area and took advantage of the happy hour specials. We did an order of mussels and fries for the adults, macaroni and cheese for the kiddos (one order split 2 ways, which was more than enough for them). Food was tasty and the happy hour drinks hit the spot all the way around. Our server did a fantastic job of making sure that our waters stayed filled and of bringing our food promptly. There were a number of interesting options on the menu, including venison chili and backstrap, as well as Korean BBQ duck. We bookmarked those to try for next time! read more

We'll be returning regularly! We loved the casually elegant lounge ambiance. We really enjoyed the crab dip, and entrees of Caesar salad with grilled chicken and the seafood dish, scallops and shrimp. The wine pours were generous. The staff struck a great balance between being attentive and letting you visit. Location is somewhat hidden. It's off the beaten path, set back from Grand River a block or so, attached the the party store. But don't let that deter you! It's cool inside! Canopy Lounge had live music but also was quieter than several other places in town. There's an elegance about Canopy that makes me want to come back and visit with friends again. They're working on adding a cigar bar but that's down the road I think. They have outdoor seating as well. Notes: I've read the other reviews and simply cannot see the basis for a negative review. A month ago I and made a reservation for 10 at 4:30. I called 2 times to confirm the date and time (even 2 days before the reservation). Two hours before the reservation time, the owner called me to cancel. He was unapologetic and cavalier in talking with me. My husband and I were there for Valentine's Day. Our waitress was very sweet and quickly took our drink order. As we were sitting at the table we noticed there was no menu but a sheet of paper telling us of the Valentine special. Then reading through we noticed at the bottom that the regular menu wasn't available. That's when we should have left. We decided to try it. So we ordered the special. It took at least 20 minutes for our shrimp cocktail to arrive. The restaurant wasn't crowded and they had plenty wait staff. We then waited another 30 minutes for our small salad to come and were asked again for drinks. At that point we felt like they were purposely trying to sell drinks. Our waitress assured us our food would be out shortly and it was our filets were lukewarm and tough, mashed potatoes cold, an asparagus was overcooked and stringy. Dessert was included with the $80 per person meal and we again waited another 20 minutes for our desserts to take home in a box. When the bill came there was a $12 service fee for a grand total of $227! read more

We started with the Bang Bang Shrimp, a dish we usually enjoy, but at $18, we expected more. Unfortunately, the shrimp were heavily breaded with barely any shrimp to be found, served on a bed of wilted greens. Not worth the price--I've had better from a frozen bag from Costco. My husband ordered the grilled shrimp and scallops, which were cooked well, and the pesto was flavorful, though a bit oily at the bottom. Still, not worth the price. I had the center-cut filet, which was expensive and very basic. The meat lacked seasoning, the mashed potatoes tasted like microwaved leftovers, and the asparagus was just okay. The atmosphere was odd, with taxidermy animals scattered around, a random couch in the middle of the room, and a piano that wasn't being played. It felt like they weren't sure what theme they were going for. Overall, we won't be coming back. Two entrees, one appetizer, no drinks, and the bill was over $100. For that price, I could've treated myself to a feast at Sushi Zen next door. But the real tragedy? My husband stayed thirsty the entire meal. This man gulps water like he's trying to single-handedly drain the restaurant's supply, and even then, they couldn't keep up. Next time, I'll just seat him by a garden hose read more

Never had a bad meal here. Drinks are inventive and special menu changes with season. Waitstaff is hit or miss, but food/drinks are delish.

Prompt friendly greeting by the host. Our waitress was friendly, professional and helpful. The decor was trendy and casual. I ordered the blackened salmon and gnocchi, my gnocchi was lukewarm but tasty and the salmon was good but not amazing. I was disappointed in the craft beer selection. The restaurant had a live piano player and in my opinion the pianist seemed like he was putting on live performance instead of playing gentle background music. It was at times annoying. We did not notice until we had left however, unless my wife read the menu wrong, we were probably overcharged $4 for one of our drinks. read more

Our server did a good job waiting on a large group. Menu selections were okay but pricey. Drink prices, appetizers and entree costs are a reason this won't be a regular eating place in the future. Food did take a longer time coming out - and no one ordered appetizers so we were all hungry when entrees arrived. Lots of laughs with our group and several different choices were selected. No one ordered dessert. Further on the downside getting our checks took way too long - over 1/2 hr! There were ongoing issues and delays - incorrectly charged items from one to another. And when they first came out we were then told the bills were wrong because "the system " hadn't automatically added the 20% gratuity as it should have - so they had to get the manager to help sort it out and rerun them all. Unfortunately that left a negative impression to what had been a good time out. Bottom line: okay place for occasional night out - expect to spend more than the average for your meal - and hope the cash out process goes smoothly! read more

The Canopy Lounge has fantastic recipes. The problem is in their process and delivery of food and drink. This was my 3rd visit here and so I don't think the excuse of "we were so busy" cuts it. My general impression is that the restaurant isn't run by professional restauranteurs. The wait staff is too scarce and not trained do basic things like frequently give your stations the eye test, (are the guests looking around, are their drinks in order, and do they have everything they ordered. Without a sufficiently staffed amount of wait staff, the ones they have all have the look of panic and being overwhelmed in their eyes. On this occasion we had a group of 8 and were told we had to run everything on one tab for groups larger than 6. Larger groups are where you specifically need this option! We ordered drinks and the wait for drinks was well over 10 minutes. We never were visited by our server in that 10 minutes. Again lack of staff. We ordered our food. After our food order we were not visited by our server until the food was delivered. Drinks were not checked and no message as to how our order was doing time wise. The wait was a little long, but acceptable. Several of us had ordered soup as an appetizer. The soup was very tasty but the temperatures were tepid at best. Either the wait staff didn't collect our soups from the kitchen until well after they'd been plated or they weren't kept warm in the first place. Our food finally arrived and again it was tepid at best. I had the Venison Backstrap. It had been ordered medium rare. It arrived tepid and well done. The potatoes and asparagus that were the sides were also tepid in temperature at best. One person in our party had fish and requested some tartar sauce, it was never delivered. I'd ordered a soft drink. It was only delivered once the meal was complete and the server was there to see if we wanted dessert. This was typical of my two previous visits to this establishment. My suggestion to them would be to hire a kitchen manager who can train the wait staff, make sure food is delivered promptly after it is plated and be on the lookout for additional competent help. I will not be returning there unless I hear through the grapevine that the've added more staff and don't cut corners. On one of my previous visits we'd inquired as to what time the kitchen shuts down, we were told 9:30 PM. We arrived at 8:30 PM and were told the kitchen had decided to shut down early. To my way of thinking this was a penny pinching move by management and their clientel suffered the consequences. In summation this establishment is not run in a professional manner. read more

I hosted a family gathering at The Canopy Lounge recently and was extremely satisfied with the ambiance, service, and responsiveness of management! Charles, the Manager, responded quickly to my initial inquiry about their ability to accommodate our group and was very helpful with meeting our needs. The lounge was comfortable, cozy, and full of interesting decor for the children in our group to enjoy. The food and expansive wine/cocktail selection was great. Brandy, our server, was friendly, efficient, and attentive. You could tell she was experienced and wanted to make our gathering special. We will definitely make this an annual event at The Canopy Lounge! read more

I have very mixed feelings about The Canopy. On the one hand, the cocktails are well-prepared and the bartender (can't remember her name, sorry, but she's GOOD) was enthusiastic and poured an excellent cocktail! Dinner, on the other hand, was punctuated by excellence and frustration. We started out by ordering the truffle oil fries to share ($12, hmm), and 2 of us made it a point to specifically ask the server to ask that they be "well-done" and "crispy"; my wife said "if they're not done right, I'll send them back...". Of course, they came out soft, and a little flaccid, so back they went. Our server apologized and took them off the bill. Cool. On to dinner - the Parmesan crusted walleye was excellent, served with wild rice (outstanding flavor and texture) and asparagus (which of course isn't in season in the northern hemisphere) - the asparagus stalks were stick-like in their girth and pretty woody toward the bottoms...okay, but could have been way better. Two of us had the beef tips which were also very good, as were the Caesar salad and zucchini cups. The problems arose when one of our party ordered the Caesar salad with grilled salmon. The salmon arrived looking beautifully cooked, with picture perfect grill marks but when it was cut open at the edge of the filet, it was clearly undercooked, like to the point of being raw. It was sent back, and our server said they'd make a new salad up with a fresh piece of salmon. So we figured, okay, no big deal, and everyone started working on their dinners, but very slowly, so we wouldn't be too far along before the salad came back. Well, as you might have guessed, the salad/salmon took at least 10 minutes to reappear, possibly 15. We don't know what transpired in the kitchen, but a reasonable guess is that the first filet wasn't properly defrosted before cooking, so that's how it was bleeped up. What was really irritating was the seeming indifference on the part of the server and manager when it took so long for the salad/salmon to come out. There were literally 3 empty plates stacked on the table when they brought it out. At the very least, something more heartfelt than "sorry that took so long" would have helped. Taking it off our tab would have been better. The service really brought the whole experience down, to a depressingly marginal level. Having to flag your server down repeatedly isn't enjoyable or conducive to a relaxing dining experience. Like I said, a mixed bag. Take your chances with the food and service, or just have a cocktail and go down the street for dinner... Your option. read more

The decor was a mix of a sports bar, hunting lodge/industrial garage. It appears as though it they did not have the space professionally designed. The vibe was strange. Went with friends and we were very disappointed, we heard this place was good. All of our dishes weren't what we exspected, wish I would of taken pictures. Three of us ordered Pepsi's and we all agreed it tasted funny, they stepped up and didn't charge us for them. For appetizers we ordered the Fried Calamari which was cooked perfectly, very tender. The Crab & Artichoke Dip was mostly cream cheese or filling and had very little crab and artichoke if any, tasted bland mostly cream cheese. Served with three small slices of bread and three crackers, not enough to go with the dip. Was good but they give you very little to share with friends. Ordered the Toasted Zucchini Cups which could of had more coat cheese, it was half of a dime size. Had to much pesto and Balsamic Vinegaret Glaze, scraped half of it off. Angry Chicken Sandwich was dry, the chicken was cheap processed frozen chicken that was thin, slice of tomato was thicker than the piece of chicken but unfortunately it was no where near ripe. Our friends ordered the Grilled Shrimp & Scallops and Spaghetti. There was only three tiny scallops and three tiny shrimp, was a bit over cooked and with a little bit of couscous, which was not worth the money. Spaghetti had three meatballs that were all burnt charcoal on one side and spicy pockets so you can tell it wasn't mixed up well. The spaghetti was $26 which is ridiculous for a dish that's so cheap to prepare and the flavor wasn't that good. We tried to order the soup special and they said it wouldn't be ready til about 6 PM. Also tried to order the Gumbo which was listed on line, also wasn't available. Tried ordering the Chocolate Moose Dessert and was also told it wasn't available. Went to pay the bill with cash, the server brought our change back and quickly said we don't have coins then left the table quickly. The bills that we should of got were in there but not the coins favoring the restaurant. Not a lot of money but kinda think that's stealing and if you think about how many times they do it per year it would add up very favorable for them. read more

This could be a really nice addition to the Brighton food scene as there are interesting food offerings, including venison and a vegetarian option. I think food can be improved with training in proper seasoning. Some entrees were off in flavor and under seasoned. Caesar salad was the most delicious. Service could use some better training. When the salmon came incredibly undercooked, the waitress took it back to the kitchen and brought it back 20 mins later as everyone else was done with their meal. A quicker turnaround and attention to detail would have been appreciated. I hope the owners will consider these changes. I hope they succeed. read more

This is a true secret neighborhood restaurant. It is next to the Canopy liquor store so you can order any cocktail or wine. The food far surpasses pub food. The calamari was perfectly prepared as was the chicken satay & Asian salad which though an appetizer we ate as a meal. The shrimp/scallop orzo dish was really tasty. Tonight we had the rack of lamb special with mixed vegetables which were really tasty & mashed potatoes. The best meal I have had in a long time. The crème brûlée was creamy yet had the crusty sugar topping. Drinks are strong & refreshing. The Manager, Charles Duty has been present every time we have been in & works with the bar, kitchen & servers to assure everything runs smoothly. Great service! This place is great!! The food is absolutely phenomenal and the ambiance is even better. The mushroom soup is the best soup ever ever, so are the truffle fries! The Canopy Lounge opened this week and it's a great place to meet for drinks and have small plate type meals. They have a wide selection of wines, beers, and alcohol. The food is amazing. The Venison is like nothing we have had before and the Chicken Satay and Sausage and Peppers are equally as good. It's a great environment inside and there's no loud music which means you can have a conversation without yelling. They have TV's for sports and other shows but again the volume is low or muted so it keeps the unwanted noise down. read more

First time visit... I typically do not leave reviews. My husband and I each ordered different drinks. both of us thought the drinks were extremely poor. My husband ordered beef tips that was supposed to be served with rice. His meal had potatoes, that he does not eat. Upon receiving the bill, he realized that they had given him according to them a venison dish that did not taste like venison and believe me, we know the difference. And was also $15 more for the bill when we told them that we did not order this, they suggested that they would give us a gift card. So that we could come back to this restaurant, and spend more money that we had no intention of doing after our first experience being completely unpleasant. I won't even go into my meal because it's not even worth the time but it was horrible . And the restaurant was not busy at all, and the waitress was completely on attentive . We are not high maintenance people to be clear . And to top it off the sound system in the restaurant was comparable to nails on a chalkboard. Could not wait to get out of there. Group Events Beware: My friend needed a last minute reception to host her family when her husband passed away. The Canopy was gracious to accomodate her quickly. She was quoted a price of $26 per person. She expected 40 guests, but bumped the count to 55 that morning to be safe. She estimates she saw roughly 50 people at the reception - however, she was billed for 69 people! This is because the restaurant told her AFTERWARD that they charge PER PLATE used - not per person. She knows that people went to the buffet more than once and therefore used more than one plate. It's worth noting that IT IS A VIOLATION OF THE HEALTH CODE TO REUSE A PLATE AT A BUFFET. However, that is exactly what they expected guests to do - although they never told them. A grieving widow should not be paying an extra $500 plus gratuity and tax. While the food and service were good, this bait and switch is unacceptable. read more
