We are truly blessed to have such an amazing Humane Society in San Diego…read more They provide so many essential services to our community: spay/neuter, a free community pet pantry, pet training, dog licensing, lost‑and‑found support, humane euthanasia, rehoming assistance, and so much more. Their impact is huge, and there are countless ways to help -- no contribution is too big or too small. One thing I deeply appreciate is their Adoption Guarantee: If for any reason an adopter decides their new pet isn't the right fit for their home, the Humane Society will schedule an appointment to welcome the pet back -- without judgment or criticism. This level of compassion and support is rare and shows how committed they are to both animals and adopters. Some meaningful ways to get involved include: Donating money Volunteering Participating in the Dog Day Out program Supporting the Community Cat Program Fostering Adopting instead of shopping Spaying/neutering your pets Sharing or reposting their information to spread awareness The San Diego campus is next‑level -- very clean, modern, and thoughtfully designed. Across the county, they have four campuses: San Diego, Escondido, El Cajon, and Oceanside (Escondido has a great setup for livestock and farm animals). Every staff member I've interacted with has been compassionate and patient. They deal with animals in distress every single day, so a little grace goes a long way.

She is such a warm light, always going the extra mile to help out and make me feel welcome. She always gives feedback and specifics on how my dog did, which makes the whole experience feel really personal and boutique. It's honestly rare to find someone who makes that kind of impression just from front desk interactions, but she really does. Every time I see her I know my dog is in good hands. The standard "suites" are kennels with plastic doors and are not soundproof, so dogs constantly hear other dogs barking or panicking unless you pay extra for an upgraded "suite" (similar to setups at the San Diego Humane Society). Webcams are only available in the play areas unless you pay for that upgrade, so there is no way to monitor your dog while they're in regular boarding. Playgroups are divided into "large" and "smaller" dogs, with "smaller" defined as up to 45 lbs -- something that is not clearly communicated or written on the website. I saw a golden retriever in the small dog group a one point, which raises serious concerns about how size and safety are handled. The facility is understaffed. At times, I saw one employee responsible for both kennel areas. There were piles of urine and feces left in play areas, dogs running through them, and periods where dogs were not actively supervised. The large and small dog areas face each other with only the fence to divide them, which creates unnecessary reactivity. Most concerning, my dog came home with dried urine and feces stuck to his belly and paws. When I brought it up, I was told "that happens sometimes." It took me an hour to fully bathe and brush him out due to matting from laying in urine. The kind staff unfortunately does not make up for the lack of cleanliness, supervision, and transparency issues. For a business of this size and reported revenue, these conditions for the dogs and employees are unacceptable. Update: After I posted this review, the manager, Jasmine, contacted me and claimed my dog's condition was due to "aggressive behavior." However, he was only there for two days, and no aggression was ever communicated to me or documented in his report cards. When I questioned the lack of documentation, Jasmine simply said, "Sorry about that." If his behavior had truly impacted his care, I would have expected immediate notification and written documentation -- not an explanation offered only after I raised concerns about him running into doors, stumbling, and having urine and poop all over him.

We decided to rescue her a few days before Hope2K9 had an open spot to start her training. When we brought Freyja home from the rescue we learned that she was part shark and part sled dog. On our first walk she was trying to pull us up the street with the force of an entire team of sled dogs. When we got home from the walk we gave her a "indestructible dog toy" which she managed to destroy within 5 minutes. At this point we were nervous about the potential challenges we were going to be facing with training. During the 3 week training process Cam kept us updated on our pups progress. The second night we received a short video of Cam walking a well behaved Freyja. The 2 in person training sessions were well organized and covered all the commands and how to leverage the training tools used to train our pup. The experience did not end with the 3 week training because Hope2K9 has been there to answer our questions.

It has been one year since I adopted Maddie and that is why this review is over due! Hope2k9 trains rescued dogs, teaches them good manners and social skills. I couldn't be more pleased with finding my forever best friend. I definitely will go back to foster or adopt another dog. Not only do they work very hard at training they also allow you to visit for more training if you want. This is a wonderful rescue and I couldn't be more happier with my pup!

He's still extra energetic, but when we've had to get control, his training is key. He also got injured playing and had to undergo a major knee surgery... THANK GOODNESS for the training! It's been hard, but again, training has been key to success. Looking forward to next steps sometime after rehab is done.

This was the very first time we left our 1-year-old dog with someone. He's almost 80 pounds of pure energy, a big, happy, very enthusiastic boy so choosing the right person felt incredibly important. I was anxious and very cautious about who we could trust. From day one, Sara exceeded every expectation. She didn't just "watch" our dog -- she worked with him every single day with so much passion, patience, and love. When he came home after two weeks, the difference was remarkable. He was calmer, more focused, and able to control his excitement much better. Walking him used to be a struggle -- he pulled constantly and tried to grab everything he saw on the street. Now, our walks are so much easier and more enjoyable. Of course, there's no magic in dog training -- consistency is key, and we continue to reinforce what he learned -- but his biggest issue, jumping on people, improved dramatically. The foundation she built made such a difference. What also gave us tremendous peace of mind was her communication. Sara sent frequent updates, photos, and videos showing us what he was learning and how he was doing. On top of that, we received detailed daily emails about his overall condition. It made us feel completely reassured that we had chosen the right person. She even gave him several baths during his stay! Her place is incredible , very secure, spacious, and extremely dog-friendly. It honestly felt like a big farm where dogs can feel free yet safe. Sara is truly passionate, caring, and loving. Her knowledge of different breeds and her training methods are impressive and effective. You can clearly see that she genuinely loves what she does. I would wholeheartedly recommend her to any dog owner, no matter the age or breed. Leaving your dog with someone for the first time is never easy, but with Sara, you can feel confident your dog is in the best possible hands.

We got to meet a lot of adorable dogs, and one little guy instantly stole our hearts. What really stood out was how thoughtful and thorough TAP's process is. There was no pressure to adopt on the spot, which we really appreciated. After the event, we completed an application and received clear next steps. The following week, our foster brought him to our home so we could spend more time together. That confirmed everything we felt at the event. TAP conducted a home visit and checked our references, and it was clear throughout the process that they truly care about the well being of their animals and making the right match. Our foster was amazing, so kind and supportive. When we brought our little guy home, she sent him with his toys, some food, and a sweet note, which meant so much to us. Such a wonderful experience overall, and now our home is filled with love, laughter, and lots of snuggles.

They are extremely flexible with scheduling of volunteering and there are many different types of fostering opportunities. They provide food, supplies, veterinary care, and any other items your foster dog may need. Your contribution is the home and time. They also have a coordinator that matches you with a dog/cat that will match your lifestyle or situation such as small apartment spaces or other pets/kids. The coordinator is extremely communicative and prompt. Another great option is temporary foster for when long-term fosters go on vacation or when certain animals need a foster home if the kennel is full. This is a great opportunity to do a trial run on fostering or if you can't make a longer commitment. I have fostered several dogs from this rescue and make a monthly contribution when I can't house another pup. I continue to be inspired by their amazing work. Lauren shares many videos about the very real situations and struggles of being a rescue. Funding is extremely difficult but rest assured that your time, efforts and money donated are going to an excellent place. Even sending $5 over Venmo helps put a drop in the bucket!
