We had two projects done here and I was most satisfied with the outcome and service. We got a new mainsail and the old cover was too tight around, but otherwise in good condition. And our line brake handles would would tear into the eisenglass in the dodger and eventually tore them. Chris came out, did some measurements and consulted with their seamstress live to come up with some ideas. For a reasonable price and within a few days, the mainsail cover was extended to fit perfectly (including moving two flaking line holes) and the dodger windows were replaced and two little "hats" added so the brakes can operate freely. read more

From 2019-2021 I owned a camper which had a tent made by Canvas Works that was of great quality! Fast forward to 2023, where I was scammed out of a tent from the same camper company (ordered a new camper), so I had to order one out of my own pocket from The Canvas Works. It was really nice of Chris, I believe, to open up the orders for us people who got scammed. Anywho, the quality of sewing has definitely dropped in the years between my old tent and my new one. There is not one straight stitch on the entire tent. It looks like it was half-a**'ed, and the vinyl is cut crooked and wavy in almost every area. That being said, the tent DID fit just fine (with a gap in the front that they provided a velcro strap for). But if you don't look at the details, it looks fine. I'm posting this review just in case people are like me and expect good sewing for nearly $2000 for a tent for a pop-up camper on the back of a truck. Pretty disappointed in the quality...but hey, I got the tent I needed. read more

Everything started out great. Michael was very responsive, better than most of the canvas shops I was working with to obtain quotes. His pricing is significantly higher, but I figured I'd be getting a superior product. I am doing the entire canvas on a 48' boat, not an inexpensive or small job. So I paid the deposit (in early June 2020) and then was told they couldn't schedule me until mid July. That's fine but we're cruising that time of year, so it would need to be end of September. I asked Michael if he could complete the windshield portion which he did before we left, and I was grateful for that. He confirmed I was on the calendar for this time, and we were schedule for end of September, close to months away. Late August rolls around and I email to confirm the appointment. I hear nothing. I then have to follow up with Chris, another staff member over there. He at least responds, but says they'll get back to me. A week goes by and I finally hear back that they can't schedule me until the last week of November because of Covid. First of all COVID was in full swing in June when I schedule and paid the deposit. Second, this was already scheduled with 4 months lead time - needing another 2 is just ridiculous. Worst still, the owner was unapologetic and uncaring that he had broken our agreement - it must be nice to be in a position to tell clients willing and able to write a 15k check to pound sand. To add to it, in receiving a refund I discovered that this shop was attempting to charge 12.7% for sales tax. This was due to a "QuickBooks error" Worst of all, the covers themselves are not fantastic (especially given the price) the fit loosely and flop in the wind. I figured I'd get this addressed when I return in late September, but now that's not happening. I'd strongly recommend you avoid this shop. Pretty much the only good thing I can say is that they sent me my deposit back quickly. read more

This is a great company. Service is their number one priority. I have a wood shed that had a canvas cover for the front opening. After twenty years that canvas was rotted and falling apart. They came, measured the opening, noted the attachment method, and fabricated a cover. They then delivered it, installed it, and decided that it wasn't perfect. They added common closures on either side, adjusted the seams, and came back to re-install it. All this off the original quote that had me doing the design and install. That's right, they went well over and above to have a satisfied customer. Kudos to the owners, and a double thumbs up to Chris, the rep who treated this project like he was the customer. I'm impressed as heck with both the work and the team. read more

Too bad they're the behemoth left standing in Marin after smaller local Sausalito shops closed. The predecessors Starbuck and Giannola were truly part of the local Sausalito waterfront community. These guys are not. Not boat people. Not Sausalito people. Not sewing experts (speaking for the owners, not the staff. But the owners' lack of expertise creates design problems). Our full boat cover got so many tears from lack of reinforcement in obvious places to reinforce, and the design just didn't make a lot of sense. We've been much happier with work done at other shops. read more

I needed somebody close by to do a last-minute eisenglass replacement on my 55' Cheoy Lee yacht in Sausalito. The job involved 9 large panels, required all new ensenglass and zippers. Their quote was accurate, the work was excellent. They got the job done and delivered the finished panels in just three days. I established a hard deadline which they exceeded. The work was totally excellent with quality materials and craftsmanship. The new panels look spectacular! I would definitely use them again for any canvas or upholstery projects. read more

Canvas Works designed, created, and installed the flybridge enclosure for our 61' Navigator a couple of months ago, and it created a whole new room for us on our boat! Mike met with us a couple of weeks before he started the project to get an idea of what we wanted - design, materials, etc. He had lots of samples and even had some samples sent to our house before the meeting. He was able to match the material on the existing bimini and added some contrasting trim that looks awesome! Then he met with us again the day they started working on the project and periodically to go over options as they came up. Mike and his staff are really friendly, talented, and determined to provide the highest quality service and workmanship. We stayed in a slip at their dock for a month, and they were on and off our boat everyday to make sure everything was exactly right. After everything was installed, we had a huge rain storm and discovered some leaky areas. Mike made sure everything was fixed and leak-free before we left. A few days after we left, he came to our marina and applied another coat of waterproofing on the bimini just to be sure it wouldn't leak again. There have been abundant rain storms since, and there have been no leaks. Nice job, Canvas Works! I would strongly recommend Canvas Works for anyone who needs canvas, vinyl, or any kind of cover, enclosure, dodger, or whatever. read more

It is nearly impossible to find a reputable outdoor furniture repair company in all of California, never mind the Bay Area. After literally months of searching and talking with the Brown Jordan reps, we found Canvas Works. We picked our material on site, brought in our entire collection of chairs, ottomans and loungers, and all twelve pieces were completely re-upholstered and now look brand new. The work was done for exactly the quoted budget, on time (a few days early actually), and the owner even delivered them to us for a small fee, the icing on the cake. Mike & the staff at Canvas Works did an amazing job, custom designing what I call my boat's "Sunroom." They took time to answer all my 'beginner questions', let me take home samples of canvas to try, so my finished product really is EXACTLY what I want-it allows just the right amount of privacy & light. After completion, Mike came up with a solution for a problem I'd been having with water pooling on a previously installed canvas roof. He not only brought me a tension rod that was fabricated to fit the stanchions and some foam blocks, that have now created a slope to improve water run off, but to top off the already 'gone-beyond-the-call-of duty' great customer service, on our way out of the Marina, I discovered that my car battery had just died, so despite the fact that we were both already late, he jump-started my car. Mike is truly just a good human being. He & his staff were always professional, communicative, they delivered exactly on time and the job is gorgeous.
