To celebrate the occasion the hostess placed sparkly confetti as well as a card that said "cheers" on the table before we arrived. Very nice attention to detail. We were seated in the main dining area and could easily see the open kitchen. Tim our server was very nice although he did forget my salad and took forever to take our initial orders, other than that he was good. The Manhattan was perfect - not too sweet and ice cold. Bread service was great - warm poppy seed, onion and pumpernickel breads as well as some crispy flatbread type of cracker. We enjoyed the fried calamari with peppers (plenty of those!) which didn't even need a dipping sauce they had enough flavor on their own. My better half had a cup of the lobster bisque and it was flavorful however it had too much flour as a thickener so it coated the mouth with a bit of pastiness. The two boys had a dry aged New York strip and a bone in rib eye. Both were well seasoned honey the NY strip was really chewy at the smaller end. Bearnaise sauce was decent but not as good as my own - it needed more vinegar and tarragon. My seabass was spectacular - perfectly cooked and flaky with just the right amount of seasoning. I've always like Capital Grille. What is great is the consistency. You can go to them in any state and get the exact same quality. I particularly love the lobster salad and the calamari. They also always have blue cheese stuffed olives. My only complaint is being there yesterday, I ordered my steak medium rare and it came out definitely medium. It was still tender but overcooked. The Capital Grille s having a Wagyu & Wine special menu running until April 19th. There's a choice of three Wagyu beef burgers and four Orin Swift wines for $35. So my husband and I went to dinner yesterday at CG to take advantage of this limited menu. I love going to Capital Grille for the ambience and the impeccable service as well as their good food. We sat in the beautiful bar area. Jon was our server and was personable and attentive. First, we started with sharing the roasted beet and goat cheese salad off the main menu. It had a large cubes of roasted beef with crumbled goat cheese and a light citrus vinaigrette. Then we had our burgers. Hubby had The Grille's Wagyu Cheeseburger with grilled onions, steak sauce and Vermont white cheddar served with sea salt fries. I chose the Wagyu Blue Cheese & Black Truffle Burger with cabernet-braised red onions with truffle parmesan fries. Jan informed me that I could switch to truffle fries and I was in. We ordered our burgers medium rare and they came out perfectly cooked. The only issue I had was the burger had seeds on the brioche bun and I can't do seeds or nuts. When I pointed that out they immediately took my burger and back and change the bun for me. It was my bad for not making sure there were no seeds on the bun. My husband and I both went with the suggested wine to complement our burgers. He had the Merlot and I had the Cabernet, which we both enjoyed CG's pairing. This menu is such a good deal because the wine that went with my blue cheese burger was an Orin Swift Palermo Cabernet, which runs $32 a glass on Capital Grille's menu. So I enjoyed a damn good burger with that pricey full-bodied Cabernet both for $35. Dinner was absolutely delicious! I had an incredible experience at The Capital Grille in Lombard. I was skeptical about booking a late reservation because of disappointments in the past. We booked a dinner reservation for 830 and the business closed at 9pm. From the moment I walked in, the service set the tone; warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming without ever feeling rushed or booking a late reservation. The staff carried themselves with the kind of professionalism that makes you feel taken care of from start to finish. Emma was our sever. She was perfect! Emma is what REALLY elevated our date night and part 2 to my Birthday experience. With her closed attention to detail. Drinks were timed well, plates were cleared smoothly, she asked for permission to be in our personal space, she carried herself with such pride and checked in just enough to make sure everything was perfect. It's the kind of service that makes the whole experience feel effortless. The atmosphere was elegant but comfortable, with that signature Capital Grille vibe: dim lighting, rich wood, and a calm energy that makes it perfect for a special night out. It felt upscale and safe space for everyone, which I really appreciated. The food was outstanding. The steak was cooked perfectly -- tender, flavorful, and seasoned just right. Every bite reminded me why this place has such a strong reputation. The sides were just as impressive, especially the chopped Brussels sprouts. I'd always tried to avoid Valentine's Day at restaurants for a simple reason- it was a hugely busy day, and the staff would be running around like crazy to accommodate the guests. Well, after years of doing our dinner on Feb 13 or Feb 15, we bit the Valentine's Day "bullet" and came on Valentine's Day (reserved, of course!). On arrival - wow. This place was beautiful. The staff was dressed to the nines- and even better? Every table got a single red rose, heart-shaped confetti, and 5 Hershey kisses (!). Talk about a welcome! The dining area we were in was pretty packed- very busy is an understatement! Our waiter, Carlos, was very attentive and pretty sharp. Unfortunately the kitchen let him down on a couple things. Let's review: We ordered the Lump crab cocktail that came with a fresh lemon 1/2 and horseradish sauce. Talk about yummy - and was fresh and bigger than I'd expected. Nice! The bread basket? Well, now. That WAS a disappointment. Only 1 roll was warm; the rest was room temp and - frankly - not that great. Hmm. That set a tone. Let's continue. My pinot noir (from California, natch!) was awesome- gotta say i loved it. Hubby ordered a french onion soup; I ordered a butternut squash soup. Both were really hot (yay!) and really flavorful. Ok! A nice start indeed after the disappointing bread basket. Now- this is a steakhouse. This was our first time ever to The Capital Grille. Seriously true. But a steakhouse is known for its steaks- full stop. Right? Hubby ordered a 14 oz medium ribeye. When it came? It was medium rare- not good. He sent it back. When it came back? It had been cooked longer. But guess what? Still not medium. He sent it back again. Yikes. Our poor waiter was beside himself. The 3rd time was the charm. I ordered sliced filet mignon with mushrooms and onions. The problem? My meat wasn't really hot. It was passable- but barely above room temperature. Yikes. The bread basket wasn't the sole reason for the 2 demerits. But the steak surely was. We ordered, as well, creamed spinach that was nicely hot and wonderfully spiced - awesome! Now I wanted to love this place. We love Morton's (a Chicago standard), and hoped to find a great steakhouse- along with Wildfire - that would compare. Capital Grille is a special occassion restaurant for us and given a gift card from my MIL, we went this past weekend. Splurging (b/c we had the gift card) - we started with the caesar salad and a cup of the butternut squash bisque. Both were quite good and I would get again. On a cold day - the bisque really hit the spot. Nothing massive on either portion - which was nice. For entrees - we got the Sliced Filet and Porterhouse (w/ gorgonzola crust). Our steaks were booked to perfection! A true medium with pink around. We were quite impressed and I loved the onions / mushroom / dates that paired with mine. My husband loved his steak. Capital Grille truly knew how to cook a steak. We paired iwth the sauteed spinach/garlic - which was also a nice side. I made a reservation to come here for our anniversary dinner. This is my first time coming to any Capital Grill location. I do have to take off a star because for a fine dining restaurant, they really should enforce their dress code policy. I saw a kid come in with his stinky sports uniform. I saw some aging young guys and girls come in with t shirts and sneakers. I wouldn't be surprised if people came in with their pjs. Keep it classy people. We waited half hour even though we had a reservation at 7 pm. Once we got to our table. We saw that they decorated the table and had a card. The manager came over and apologized for the wait. He gave us the pan fried calamari with hot cherry peppers for free. We ordered lobster and crab cake with lemon basil aioli, double cut lamb rib chops, sauteed spinach, lobster mac and cheese, and porcini rubbed bone-in ribeye. We got complimentary dessert and wine too. Our server Gerardo B was amazing. He was very kind and attentive. The whole staff while we were seated were all great. They made sure we got everything we needed. Prices are to be expected since it's a 4 dollar sign steakhouse. Overall, it's a 4 out of 5. -pan fried calamari with hot cherry peppers 5 - this is good if you like spicy. The pan fried calamari had the perfect texture. Not too rubbery, not tough. -lobster and crab cake with lemon basil aioli 5 - I loved how flaky the crab cake was, with the sauce it easily melts in your mouth. I would savor each bite. -mint gremolata and honey crusted double cut lamb rib chops 5 - I was surprised at how beefy these were, I was expecting them to be small. Lamb is only good when it's cooked medium rare. Too much brown will ruin it. The meat was tender and you can taste the seasoning. -lobster mac and cheese 4 - this was good but I wanted a bit more lobster meat in it. For the price, they should have added bigger chunks of meat. -porcini rubbed bone-in ribeye with 15 year aged balsamic 5 - the ribeye was good. You can taste the balsamic, it's more on the subtle side though. We usually choose between either the Lombard location or Schaumburg (Schaumburg is usually the 1st choice b/c they are more consistent and food is always superb). The servers at this particular location are great and very attentive but the food is extremely lackluster. I had one tiny piece of lobster in my Lobster Mac and cheese - and this is a dish I order every single visit. The rest of the food isn't even worth mentioning. For my first course i order the field of greens with parmesan vingerette. the salad was fresh and crunchy all the vegetables with fresh too. the didn't drench the salad with the dressing so it was perfect. Wife and I both decided to have the rib eye. She asked for medium and got medium. I wanted medium rare and unfortunately, I also got medium. If it was too rare, I might have asked to have it on the grill a little longer, but you can't fix medium, so I kept it. For a dinner for two that came to $350 I probably should have asked for a replacement but it would have been complicated. I made reservations to this location for Mother's Day for my family. When it was closer to the date they called me to confirm my reservation. Initially, I only reserved for six adults and two high chairs. When I receive the call to confirm, I did mention that I may have seven adults and two high chairs for that Sunday. Due to the limited capacity, the staff did say they will do their best to accommodate the extra adult if they end up coming. On the day of the event, we were running late heading to the restaurant. I called as a courtesy that we will be running 10 minutes late. And stated we do have 7 adults and 2 high chairs. I was shocked on the call when I was told no more surprises ok....Not only was i told once this comment but twice! It didn't leave a good feeling to me as a paying customer that I was being told this over the phone. I'm not a child and I thought that was not a very good Customer Service and I'm not even served yet. When I arrived, I asked to speak to the manager while we were being seated. It just happened to be the person taking us to our table was the manger. The Manager I believe was Fernando who was very professional and he took my feedback into consideration, I could have cancelled and take my family elsewhere but he did and offer us complementary appetizers for the table which was a very nice gesture, including an apology. The place is located across the Yorktown mall. It's a standalone building with plenty of private parking and they did offer free valet parking as well. The ambience Lighting is slightly dim. I am kind of glad that they were able to accommodate us with a long table and two high chairs and high chairs or facing towards the bar showing TV screens. If you haven't been to this restaurant, it is white linen cloth with cloth napkins, and the ambience is romantic if you go there with someone special. Let's start off with appetizers: At the table, they served us warm bread and soft butter, including crackers as well. We had their Fried calamari with spicy peppers on top. They served lightly fried calamari rings, and the tentacles. Tentacles are my favorite. But it does get a bit spicy so if you don't like spicy, but like fried calamari, ask them to put the spicy peppers on the side. I wish I did this for my sister-in-law. This dish was cooked to perfection it was not a rubbery texture at all. We had the lobster crabcakes. This was really tasty. Hardly any breading, mostly crab and chopped lobster meat. It also came with a side of corn and aïoli sauce. I would get this again it wasn't spicy. We also ordered the sweet tasting Korean thick wood bacon appetizer. That was pretty good. Equal part of fat and meat pieces. I would get this again! For drinks, we had some wine and hubby had the old fashion, and I had Moscow mule with Tito vodka. Our drinks were pretty good all round, some fruit spritzers, wine, other cocktails. And also they had juice for the kids. Our main dishes at the table, were the following, New York strip steak, which was good medium cooked. I ordered the ribeye steak medium. My mom ordered the special two lobster tail. We asked our waiter. Javier, if we could split the steak and the sweet lobster tail with me and my mom, they were so accommodating it was delicious. The side vegetables were all à la cart. He was the ABSOLUTE BEST waiter from time he took my order until I left! We were seated after a few minutes our server was knowledgeable and she kept things moving along. I ordered the In Fashion which was perfect! My daughter ordered a margarita which she said was a little too sweet! We all ordered filets! We had choices of clam chowder or salads. My husband said the soup was good with plenty of clams and good flavor. I ordered French onion soup which was an up charge of a few dollars; it was very good ! My son said his house dressing was a little bit flavorless. He would order a different dressing next time. The filets were PERFECT!!! We all ordered medium! You know it's good when NO one is talking!!! The sides were mashed potatoes and spinach! They were good. I visited a friend who lives in the suburbs. We decided to try The Capital Grille. I live very close to the Chicago location and love it. This location sits on the outskirts of the shopping mall parking lot. I was surprised to see how full the lot was. It was so nice that they offer complimentary valet parking. He was very courteous and opened both of our doors. Inside, the holiday decor was beautiful. It was very classic, reminiscent of many holidays gone by. I loved the cozy feel it gave. We sat in a smaller room that we really enjoyed. Framed artwork finished the decor. Our server was very nice but as the evening went on, we saw less and less of him. It seemed he was very busy but remained friendly and personable. Our appetizers and dinners were very good. Classic cuisine with no surprises. We both felt the desserts were less impressive. Overall, the valet, hostesses, server and manager were all very nice. The timing threw off our meal though. The thing that bothered my friend was the server suggested a glass of wine that was quite expensive. She loved the wine and didn't mind the price but wished he had been upfront with the price point. read more

We had a fabulous dinning experience yesterday afternoon, 10-26-25 at your Lombard location. The food was delicious and perfectly prepared. Our server Marco Pastor was extremely kind, knowledgeable, and accommodating. I know I will ask to be seated at one of his tables at all our future visits to The Capital Grill. I wanted to share an update from my 12/24/24 review of The Capital Grille. You may recall, I wrote that while the food was delicious, overall, the evening was very disappointing and was not the special evening we try to create each Christmas Eve by trying a new upscale restaurant. The server, while experienced, was robotic and we were sat at a table/booth meant for six and we would have had to wait to be seated at a smaller table. Being "old school" [an older lady] my mom felt this disconcerting and awkward. I'm upgrading my review to a 5 because the restaurant reached out to me to discuss our experience of that evening and asked us if we would consider giving the restaurant a second chance [you may recall this was our first time dining at The Capital Grille]. I sincerely appreciated the personal communication and will definitely bring my mom back to try again. read more
