This place was excellent!!!!! I went there for my birthday back in August and when I tell you the food did not disappoint...it did not disappoint. The hostess was so nice. They gave me a birthday card and the table had happy birthday confetti on there. We ordered the lamb chops and steak. We also had Brussels sprouts and Parmesan fries as a side. The meat was so tender they melt on your mouth. We still talk about going back. We loved this place. The vibes were chilled. Music is not too loud and the room was not too dark. Highly recommended. January 1, 2026 New Year's Day. My first review of the new year. My long time Chicago friend took me out to dinner tonight. He suggested that we dine at the Capital Grille. We arrived a little after 5:30 pm to avoid the rush. Rush ? What rush ? It's a Thursday night in a Windy City ( Chicago ) Suburb and it's 15 degrees outside. There is no rush. As we entered the restaurant we noticed that the place was relatively empty , yet , we were asked to wait as the staff checked to see if a table was available. After about a 5 minute wait it was determined that a table / booth was available. We opted for the booth. Yeah , like I said, the place was relatively empty. We sat down at our booth as the restaurant slowly began to fill up with customers. Menus were presented and after a quick perusal we ordered dinner. My friend ordered a glass of wine to accompany his Rib-Eye steak. I ordered the petite Filet Mignon. Yes Virginia , I'm watching my weight. Our waiter , I believe his name was Grant , provided us with excellent service and was very attentive to our every request. The restaurant is considered an upscale restaurant and the prices reflect that status. The lighting was dim , the decor chic , suitable for a date night or special occasion. It is large in scale with side rooms for parties and special events. A giant Bar is located in a side room that can accommodate a robust gathering. My friend enjoyed his meal and I found my Filet savory and tasty. The clam chowder that preceded the steak was excellent. We both enjoyed our dinner. The Capital Grille is a lovely place to dine as the food , service , and ambiance are on point. Yes ! I do recommend this restaurant for a night out , date night , or special occasion. Came here for a private event in one of their rooms upstairs. Had house wine offerings from white to red and also had appetizers to share, main of choice and dessert. The appetizers were good, fried calamari and bread, the bread was warm and great with the butter. Calamari which was crispy and flavorful. Then we also had a salad and entree of choice. I got the tbone steak med rare and felt like it was a bit more cooked than I would have liked. Overall a very much white table cloth steak house. read more

Elegant dinner for two. We were celebrating our anniversary and arrived to find our table decorated and with a hand-written card for us. We started off with a complimentary champagne toast, which was completely unexpected. We were seated at a table with a window into the prep kitchen, which was really fun to watch. From the martini shaken table side, through a truly memorable meal, I cannot think of anything that could have made this experience better. Came here for Wagyu and Wine, which is a prix fixe menu of one of three wagyu burgers and a choice of one Duckhorn red wine. The burgers were delicious and the wine divine. We had a wonderful experience celebrating my mother in laws birthday last night! It started from when we walked in when they overheard two of us saying we were cold and they brought us scarfs. How amazing. The only other place I experienced this was at the Peninsula hotel in Chicago. This service carried over to dinner with our fabulous waiter Justin! He was attentive and on top of everything we needed or wanted. When I told him the Seabass felt a little bland he brought a few different sauces for me to try. They were all so good. The bread service is out of this world. I could have just eaten the bread basket and been content lol. There were a few different types of bread- onion, everything buns, pumpernickel and a big cracker. My favorite was the everything. My daughter got butter noodles but I think next time we would try a different noodle like a spaghetti noodle bc the other noodle was a little hard! My husband got the steak and loved it. He's hard to please with steak because he's used to Chicago steakhouses but Capital Grill stood up to the test! 5th time here and the 2nd time was a miss but the 6th was probably the best and the stars were aligned Michael our server made our night special for a birthday night out. (Had him on a prior visit and he was great then too so ask for him!) Started with the yuzu old fashioned and the crab cocktail which we will def have again it was the best crab cocktail ever had! We had the beet salad and wedge salad. The wedge had these huge pieces of lardons (bacon) and they were crispy nuggets of pork heaven. Oh no I hope my vegan friend isn't reading this. Entree wise we had the NY strip au poivre which was delish but need just of seasoning. I had the seared tuna and that was deelish too! we dine here every 6 weeks, lunch and dinners, with family and friends food is delicious and well prepared service is professional and friendly the problem is when i use online reservation or call in to restaurant to reserve a room for 20+ people i never get a call back or as in last case i got call back months later, i tried several times to talk to a manager but did not get a call, so I have been going to other restaurants, last time we went to Trulucks which was very good food and service and young lady who does the reservations is very responsive not sure what the problem is at old orchard restaurant but it needs attention read more

I have been seeing seeing this around for a bit but its the first time i have tried it. First of its a place you can go to if you want to dress up for dinner. From the ambiance to the service to the price. Definitely for special occasions ot maybe if you are simply craving. I had the Classic NY BONE IN steak. The size was good and seasoned perfectly. Altho i did wanted it medium but i think they misheard me and gave me a medium well instead so i didnt enjoy it as much. We also had a few sides. The Creamy Spinach was missing a tad more cream. The Roasted Mushroom and Asparagus were really good. It would be one of the places to consider when craving for steak. Happy Eating! read more

We had dinner here on Thanksgiving Day. The restaurant was crowded, but the service remained excellent. Our waiter made sure that we were well taken care of and our meal was leisurely. We've had bad experiences in other restaurants on holidays -- they rush you and the service and food suffers. Not here. We started with the crab cake, which was perfect in every way. My husband had the sea bass and I had the scallops with lobster risotto. Both dishes were excellent. I had the chocolate espresso cake for dessert and my husband had the special pumpkin dessert made for Thanksgiving. The restaurant was not too loud, and the tables were appropriate spaced. Everything was perfect. This was our first visit, but we will definitely be back. read more

Well, we had a first visit to this newest Capital Grille in Chicagoland.   And as with any good, reliable, and consistent franchise, when you walk into one, it's like walking into any other (and we've done all the others in Chicagoland as well as one in Indianapolis) and there's no surprises.  The wife and I came in for lunch and had our usual 5 star experience.  She ordered and enjoyed a two-item "plates" lunch comprising a bowl of clam chowder and seared salmon for $24.  I had their signature cheeseburger (medium) with truffle fries for $21.  They use fontina cheese and it was my first CG burger ever.  Both the big burger and the generous serving of fries were tip-top delicious as expected. All of the staff introduced themselves and were classy and welcoming.  Hannah was our server, Daniel did the water service, and GM Thomas Dierking came by to check on us too.  Knowing that both of our grand-darlings also love burgers, I also asked out of curiosity about their kids' menu.  They have one but it's not printed and you have to ask about it.  Anyway, Hannah found out for us that a kids' burger meal goes for $9 and a kids' mac and cheese goes for $11.  Most kids' meals are great values and these sound the case as well.  Maybe we'll bring 'em in for lunch one day and then I can do a Capital Grille Yelp review from a kid's perspective, lol. Just fyi, the Old Orchard Mall restaurant tax rate is 13.25%, so now you know and you won't be surprised.  The only other little CG difference I noticed was that they don't use the logo'd luxuriously thick paper towels in the restrooms anymore but a plain white but still high quality paper towel.  There also might be a little more natural lighting in this location than the others but then again it was our first day time visit to a Capital Grille.  The End.  Enjoy. read more

Our party of four dined here in the early evening of March 30, 2025. Food was delicious, service was mediocre, and I was deceived by the bill's tip calculator. We all had the Wagyu & Wine - Duckhorn Portfolio; delicious! As were the "In Fashion" Old Fashion cocktails. Our server, on the other hand, was inexperienced and not especially attentive. Worse was the fact that when, at our request, our server split the bill two ways, I was misled by the receipt's handy tip calculator into tipping for the full amount, and not just for just our half. Came here to the new old Orchard location for the first time for Mother's Day brunch. Part of the draw wore the specials just for opening for brunch for Mother's Day. The place is absolutely packed as expected on the holiday. However, we still got a nice table and the weight staff although there are many of them are quite busy. I expect a lot from the capital Grille, considering the reputation in the price point. Therefore it was a little disappointing that waters are offered with lemons or limes. It was also disappointing that no one ever comes around to scrape off the crumbs off of your white tablecloth table. Also, add that for Mother's Day. They didn't even give out a rose or carnation to the mothers who were they are celebrating Mother's Day. These are all the little details it really set apart the competition, considering the amount of steakhouses in the vicinity and now in the suburban vicinity. I would come back again despite some of these details as in general, the service was good. The food quality is incredible so no complaints. read more

Ordered the scallops and lobster asparagus risotto... what a complete disappointment they were. Absolute rubber for the extremely overcooked scallops and just the opposite for the risotto...undercooked and crunchy. New guy at the fish station? The wedge salad also had rust on it which we removed. The steaks were fine though almost all the temps were wrong. Unfortunately we were in mixed company which made the situation awkward...but you would've thought the server would've inquired upon witnessing the entree barely touched. read more

We've eaten here for New Year's Eve for several years in a row, and the experience is always terrific. I'm giving it four stars because this year's experience was not as good. My cut of meat, lacked seasoning and flavor and could've been more tender though it was cooked a perfect medium rare, and the au gratin Potatoes were sweet and unsatisfying. In the past, the steaks have been mouthwatering. On the plus side the bruleed cheesecake was fantastic, the lobster mac and cheese was great and they served us a complimentary glass of champagne at the end of dinner that was outstanding. While the server made some mistakes, he and the entire staff were very attentive. The decor is lovely, there is valet, parking, and coat check available, and also a large self parking lot. read more

We visited this location for the first time for Restaurant Week 2024. The restaurant was dark with nice low lighting and clean inside. I got the sliced filet and my fiancé got the Kona-crusted bone-in ribeye. The sauce with my filet was a little sweet for my liking, but the Kona crusted ribeye was soo good! This is my first time dining at capital Grille and it did not disappoint. I ordered a ribeye steak that was nice and juicy with a side of lobster Mac and cheese and mash potatoes. The sides are good for two people to share. Honestly, you can order 1 ribeye steak and share for two people plus the two side orders and an appetizer and feel full. The cocktails were also good not watered down at all like at some places. But where I really want to focus on was my server "ART" he was beyond great. Very friendly, big smile, always polite and came around to see how things were going (where it wasn't too much or too little, just perfect) and to finish off he even cracked a few jokes which let me know he has a good sense of humor and that's important. I was very surprised by the portion! I guess this is my first time ordering something fancy at a fancy restaurant. This fish was delicious. The top is very crunchy and the white meat is very soft. The sauce complimented the dish very well. I also ordered creamed corn with bacon as a side and the flavors were crazy! I enjoyed the complimentary bread they served, if you have anyone in your party that has a peanut/nut allergy then the pumpernickel bread could be asked to be separated. Otherwise the onion and cheese bread was sooooo good. This is my third time at The Capital Grille. If I were to pick, I really enjoyed the Schaumburg location just for the ambiance. This is a great addition to Old Orchard. Quality food, excellent service, and a lovely space. It's in the old space that used to be McCormick & Schmick's... which was nice, but hit or miss and closed a few years ago. The restaurant has gotten a nice facelift and the menu has gotten an upgrade, too. I've been a few times, for lunch, and people haven't seem to have found it yet, as the dining room is nowhere near capacity yet. Given the food and service, i can't imagine that will last very long. I ordered the Cobb salad with sliced tenderloin. Beautifully presented and delicious. The meat was fork-tender and the greens were plentiful and crisp. I will order again. read more

First of all, let me start off by giving a quote that I've heard a while ago," People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care." Originally I walked into a restaurant that I've actually enjoyed for quite some time now while I get that it was Mother's Day and that I didn't have a reservation, I was snubbed by one of the managers who didn't even so much as come over to say hello. He just looked at me in disgust and walked away sending somebody else to greet me who told me that they were fully booked however, if I wanted to sit in an area they have that really isn't comfortable for dining necessarily. I simply walked out with a smile on my face because this was my birthday, not just Mother's Day and I knew that someone would be more than happy to take my money and do it with pleasure and excellence. I drove over to Capital Grille, one of my favorite restaurants‼ And was greeted immediately & kindly by one of the managers by the name of Melody who told me that they were booked however, she gave me and option to sit at the bar and I said no thank you because I personally don't like eating normally at bars however, she then said, we can make something happen & I patiently waited (& frankly because of the level of hospitality, I thought to myself," maybe if they're no more options, I will take the bar option possibly, or try another spot.) Anyway, next thing you know I was being whisked away by a wonderful hostess by the name of Raquel‼ Raquel was so nice and kind taking me upstairs to a table that was beautifully decorated that had a yellow rose, a birthday card for me from the restaurant‼ Next, I was immediately greeted by an awesome professional by the name of Julian who right from the start knew his stuff‼ I mean what a consummate professional, a gentleman and a scholar for that matter. I did take a couple of his recommendations & thoroughly enjoyed them‼ And he knew that menu‼ What a great server & I highly recommend that you ask for Julian when you go there, if he's available he will be so happy to take care of you‼ I also met a server's assistant who worked very hard the entire time by the name of Daniel‼ What a wonderful professional young man‼ The food of course, was absolutely delicious‼ One can't ever go wrong at a top tier restaurant such as this one‼ I celebrated my mom here‼ I started out with the Lobster Bisque soupI enjoyed the miso butter sea bass, its so scrumptious and made to perfection with asparagus! I also added a couple side dishes that were delectable: such as sautéed spinach and Brussels sprouts! Yummy‼‼‼ Again, while Julian is an exceptional server that I will be going back soon to dine with because of his level of professionalism, I observed great teamwork on the floor, these guys all celebrated and served one another with passion, grace and gratitude! We went to capital grill to celebrate my wife's birthday and we had a wonderful time. We have to give a shout out to our servers at the bar, Mario and Maria. Service at the bar was great, so was the ongoing discussions that we had with the bar staff and the other wait staff. The food was wonderful and so was the ambience. We got there, and they acknowledged our anniversary which was so thoughtful. They put some cute lovey decor on the table with a cute anniversary card which was so kind. They even forgot to bring out one of the appetizers we ordered. When our entrees were served, our friend's steak was cold, and ours was room temperature. The problem was that our server, Hannah, was busy chatting up other tables. She did not have time to follow up and ask how the birthday dinner was going. Later, when a manager was walking through the area, she stopped to ask about our experience. We told her, and she made adjustments on our bill, but we would have preferrred eating at the same time as our friends. We just celebrated our anniversary at the new Skokie location and had a wonderful time. Our server Julian was excellent. He was very helpful with our wine selection. They use an ipad to show all the selections, by country, red vs white, glass or bottle. The food was very good. We had the Tuna Tartar appetizer, Brussel sprouts, Seabass, and the Bone in Kona rub NY steak. The steak was really good with a nice char on the outside.
