We were happy to be back at Ruth Chris Steak House to celebrate Valentine's Day. It is always busy and packed here on this day. Our wait was not bad with a reservation, it was within 10 minutes, and a hostess politely led us to our nice and spacious booth, that had more privacy but still in the main dining area. Our server, Richard, was very professional, attentive, and friendly. His timing was perfect for a busy night like this one, his service was top-notch, making this dinner so relaxed and satisfactory. We ordered two glasses of Benton Lane red wine, Crab Cakes, French Onion Soup, House Salad, Creamed Spinach, 6 oz, Filet with Shrimp, and Lamb Chops. Their steak and lamb chops are among the best in the Chicago Burbs, perfectly charred and slightly crispy on the outside, while tender on the inside, and just juicy and flavorful! There were three double-cut scrumptious lamp chops in my entrée. I could only finish two and took one home, and generously gifted my husband with it. For soup, they only had French Onion Soup for this busy night, so I had to miss my favorite Lobster Bisque. The onion soup was the weakest among all our food in this meal, that's a bit overly salted, and the cheese was a bit thick and hard due to the soup being luke warm. As always, their crab cakes were good, with big lumps of crab meats and very flavorful. Bread was fresh off the oven and piping hot, it was heavenly with butter. Each of us had an individual Symphony Cheesecake served with berries, which was delicious. I also had a cappuccino which was pretty standard. At the end of the meal, each lady got a beautiful long stem rose from the server, that was a nice tradition of this restaurant. The restaurant is located inside the Renaissance Hotel in Northbrook. After the meal, we ventured into the hotel lobby which was packed with happy people, there was even a large happy black and white dog! We had a great time and will be back again! Although not as good as other locations I've been too in the past, everyone was happy with the flavor and temperature of steaks. Small menu but we were able to order off the regular menu as well (we also got spinach for $15 because it's the best here). There is a lot of hype around Ruth's Chris. But in a classical, traditional way. There are rumors about dress codes, reservations, and special occasions. They called once or twice to confirm my reservation. It's all a lot for this experience! I've been there twice now. Both weekday times. It's a classy, but plain environment. Everyone is formal and calls me Mr [redacted] because of the reservation info. The menu is very nice, but mostly traditional. I think I'd like more unique or interesting entrees. But that's not their fault. On my first visit, I ordered the ribeye, medium rare. It came out very well-done. It took a long time (way too long) to flag my server down to get it replaced. On my second visit, I shared the porterhouse - it came all pre-cut just like the picture! So fancy! The sides were all very nice - they all had this consistent savory comfort food vibe. Listen this one hurts. I've enjoyed and defended Ruth Chris for years. But I have to tell you this most recent experience was just awful. And not just me. Others in the restaurant had bad experiences as well. First off, delayed bread service. When asked the waiter said "oh no one brought yall bread". Do you see any on the table. Drink service was just as bad. Appetizers service wise was fine. However please take the calamari off the menu. Or change how it's prepared. 2/10. Shrimp cocktail was fine. The family and i were there to celebrate a number of significant events. We've eaten at a ton of fine dining restaurants. Ruth Chris has always been a go to for us. 3 out of the four meals had a salad. Needless to say the salad never got delivered. Steaks weren't flavorful as normal. Kinda dry. Sweet potato casserole, dry. Garlic mashed potatoes, dry. Creamed spinach and Brussels sprouts were decent. Once the manager was notified that the salads we ordered never arrived she apologized and promised to make it up to us. Well complimentary desserts when 3 out of the 4 meals came with a dessert doesn't count. Not to mention we were charged for salads that we never got. I had such a fantastic Thanksgiving at Ruth's Chris Steak House! The warm, fresh bread was so delicious. I tried the blueberry mojito which wasn't my favorite, so I sent it back, but everything else totally made up for it. The stuffed chicken was an outstanding choice, full of flavor, and the mashed potatoes were good (just needed a little extra TLC). But the star of the night was the crème brûlée! Chicago Restaurant Week 2025 is what made me aware of Ruth's Chris Steak House's location in Northbrook. Their participation in Restaurant Week seemed to be a popular choice as there were plenty of people waiting for tables. We are glad we made a reservation although we still had to wait about 10 minutes after the reservation time of 7 pm. The Restaurant Week menu had something for everyone and seemed to be full size portions. I started with the French Onion Soup and my husband had the Caesar Salad. We thought both were good. He ordered the 8 oz filet and I had the 6 oz filet with three shrimp as our main courses. The proteins were cooked as requested. Three sides were offered. My husband chose the Creamed Spinach which was good. I chose the Sweet Potato Casserole. Both my husband and I found it to be too sweet. We expected sugar in the topping but we believe it was also added to the potatoes. If we could do something different we would have gotten the garlic mashed potatoes. We ended the meal with the one dessert option - cheesecake with berries. It was good although we aren't sure what the white topping was. Drinks were extra. I tried a good Pinot Grigio and my husband opted for a soda, The staff was attentive and nice. The restaurant itself seems to be many small rooms attached together. We were seated in what seemed to be room you can rent for events. It had a ceiling projector and screen. While the room was a nice space, it has two large pillars in the middle of the room making it hard to see everyone. Overall, we are glad we gave it a try. The area has no shortage of steak houses so we'll likely go somewhere else if we are doing a dinner where we are open to paying steak house prices. read more

Unfortunately, the hotel in which the restaurant is located had a malfunctioning A/C unit, so dining here was not comfortable on this day, with temperatures causing guests to sweat. The waitress was very apologetic and attentive to extra iced water refills. The blueberry mojito 5 stars. Steak and lobster.... Steak 5 stars (sliced like butter and tasted amazing), The lobster was 4 stars simply due to size. I've had bigger and better for half the price. The taste was good. Garlic mashed potato 5 stars. Creamed spinach 4.5 stars. Caesar salad 4.5 stars. Lobster bisque soup 2 stars. The cherry liquor didn't pair well with a mojito. It needed a little more cream swirled into the soup. Taste was a bit off, my mom gave it 1 star (being we're from the PacNW), but when I tasted I wanted to give it a 3. Would I recommend this venue? Unsure. The cost for steak and lobster was $76 a person. I can also eat a good steak at Longhorn and get out there with a bill under $150, and here, It was more like $380. So for my birthday, my fiance took me to my favorite steakhouse on planet earth: Ruth Chris. It's been a hot minute since I've been here, let alone this location, because if you are a human, currently living in this economy and/or live in an environment where money grows on trees, eating at Ruth Chris garners a visit on special occasions only which is why it would be most appropriate on my bday. Anywaysss. When we came in, it wasn't too busy and we were seated at our reservation time (shout out to my fiance for the reservation and for the follow through!!), we were at an adorable table that was decorated with little celebration confetti and a little birthday menu and a hand written birthday card which was a nice touch. The ambiance was romantic and the vibe was immaculate. Our waiter, Brittani, was not only the cutest but she was so helpful. From helping us with our cocktails, to our bottle of delicious red wine (Dao) and our food (a delicious Cesar salad, mushrooms with crabmeat and the porterhouse for 2), she was amazing. She was very prompt, always returning to fill our wine glasses and ensuring that we had everything we needed. Her customer service was fantastic as she was kind, personable and always willing to help. Overall, our experience was wonderful and we will continue to come back here. The food was delicious, the steak was succulent and the wine and drinks are *chefs kiss*. Shoutout to Brittani to being the coolest and her awesome customer service. I've never been to Ruth's Chris I've always heard mixed reviews this is a restaurant in my hotel. I came down just to get crab cake appetizer because my coworkers said they were good and I wasn't to hungry. The crab cakes were actually the worst I've ever had they were good and did not taste fresh and I was definitely disappointed because the price was outrageous for them to taste prepared and warmed up. I only gave them a 2 because of decor. I only asked for a water no ice with a straw the waiter gave me a dirty straw that was sticky. I only ate 1 of my crab cakes and a bite of the other one because the taste was dissatisfying. The waiter asked me did I want it to be box and I told him no I did not enjoy them and that they weren't good, and he just threw it out and gave me my receipt which I felt like there could've been more attentive to satisfy me after spending $30 on something I did not finish. read more

Haven't been to the north side Ruth's Chris since 2011. Huge difference in the new location and in a good way. There is ample parking in the lot along with a complimentary valet. The ambiance and feel of the new location are extremely classy. It's best to dress a little more than casual to match the vibe. All the ladies at the front of the house were really nice. Our server was as well. I've been to RC numerous times, and this location did not disappoint. Steak and Stuffed chicken breasts were both juicy with so much flavor. The companion mashed potatoes is the best companion. 10 out of 10. Highly recommend!! read more

It is amazing how different locations of one chain can be. We have not dined at the Ruth's Chris Northbrook location in more than a few years, but it remains an outstanding steakhouse. Everyone in our party had a steak - 4 different ones. Each was perfectly cooked, wonderfully seasoned, and all delicious. Our sides and starters were all excellent, from the Calamari and Ruth's Chopped Salad to the Au Gratin Potatoes and Creamed Spinach. Our server, Rick, was wonderful - our party was old friends catching up. He didn't hover, but was always checking on our food and if he could get us anything else. The manager came by to check a couple of times as well. The decor, dark and "clubby" was clean and well maintained, although fairly old. Overall a great dining experience. read more

I even had to call twice and increase the number for dinner, and it wasn't a problem. Another person took us to our table, and he was friendly as well, although I didn't get his name. My husband and I went to Ruth Chris Steak House in Barrington last night to celebrate our anniversary. The service and ambiance was excellent. However, the food in my opinion was not up my standards. My main entree was the 16 oz ribeye which I ordered medium rare. The steak was so tough I could hardly cut or chew it. I have never paid 78 dollars for a steak that I could not eat. First of all the steak came to the table overcooked. My husband ordered his filet medium and the cook appeared to be the same. I just really questioned if I was served what I asked for. I have had better ribeyes at Longhorn and Texas Road House. They did try to compensate my disappointment with a free dessert which was nice and I did decline. I rarely have a dessert item when I go out to dinner. I go for the steak and it was really bad. We were at Eddie Merlot's in Lincolnshire for Valentines spent less money and my food was exceptional. My best friend and I kicked off our bestie staycation with dinner at Ruth's Chris in Northbrook, and the experience was excellent from start to finish. From valet to the host and security, everyone made us feel welcomed. Our waiter, Luis, provided outstanding service and went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. The manager, Rocco, was kind and attentive, he personally stopped by our table to check on us and did the same with neighboring tables, which really showed his genuine hospitality. We also appreciated Humberto, the busser, who was attentive and helpful throughout our meal. Customer service here was truly a 10/10. This was my first time at Ruth's Chris, but it will not be my last. The food was delicious as well; the only small suggestion I'd offer would be to add heavy whipping cream to the mashed potatoes. Meaty dinner! We tried Ruth Chris Steakhouse for the first time, and we only ordered two different types of meat along with drinks that were not pictured. We tried steak and chicken and both dishes came out sizzling HOT, not even kidding the plate was cracking and it was so cool! It was nice to eat food where it didn't become cold after a few minutes if you didn't eat it fast enough. Our server, Rich was fantastic. He was incredibly attentive, sweet, and accommodating. Our water was constantly full, our dirty plates were cleaned right away, he always warned us of hot plates, and checked in to see if we needed anything regularly. He truly made the experience 5 stars. Frankie, the manager was also amazing and did not hesitate when we let him know we needed our 11 oz filet recooked (it was cooked rare when we requested medium rare). My petite filets + shrimp was overcooked (I requested medium rare but received well done) so that was a bummer but I didn't bother requesting a new one because the shrimp was so delicious. And to be honest, petite filets are almost always overcooked wherever I go. I will say, the sides and appetizers were great, no complaints there. The complimentary birthday dessert was amazing as well. We'll be back since the service was so amazing and hopefully Rich will be our server again. read more

Amazing food and service!! Michelle was absolutely amazing!! At the top of the evening, she asked if we were celebrating anything, and I made a quip saying, "no, we're just live, laugh, loving!" As the meal wound down, Michelle brought out a cheesecake and painted in chocolate on the plate were the words, "Live Laugh Love." We nearly fell out of the booth with laughter. We highly recommend Michelle and will ask to be seated in her section the next time we come for dinner. She is truly exceptional! Chef must be asleep, "chef's special" came out in separate containers, scallops in messy dish and salmon with misc undercooked small pieces of vegetables. Dish was disgusting!!!! Almost inedible. This after waiting far too long - even the aforementioned bartender was wondering where the meal was. He said the Chef was having an "off night" ... confirmed. Ruth's Chris (nearly as daunting to pronounce as "Fifth Third") is reputedly one of the best steak house chains in the USA. Their menu prices are right up there, so it's a special occasion or expense account kind of place. Given the high overall quality, though, it's worth the splurge. Bear in mind that their menu prices may differ from what is shown below, plus the cost of beef is soaring. All menu items are a la carte (the bread basket is complimentary). Expect to pay ballpark of $100 per person, not including alcohol. Our most recent visit here was on the occasion of my Missus' birthday. The dining rooms are subdued, cozy and comfortable. We were seated near the fireplace at a banquette with foil confetti sprinkles and a personalized birthday card. Nice touch! We enjoyed impeccable service. My starter was that steakhouse classic, a wedge salad ($12). Loaded with chunks of bleu cheese and bacon bits, it was ample for two people to share. My Missus' heart was set on lobster bisque, but due to supply chain issues, onion soup was substituted (more about this later). Our steaks were spectacular. Comparable to how Mexican restaurants serve fajitas, Ruth's dry-aged steaks arrive sizzling and sputtering on a platter heated to 500°. The beef stays warm to the last bite. I had the 11oz filet ($53), and both my Missus and her sis ordered the 22oz bone-in "Cowboy Ribeye" ($66). Cooked to a perfect medium-rare, our steaks were juicy and butter-knife tender. We shared two sides, grilled asparagus and sweet potato casserole ($12.50). The latter, having the taste and texture of snickerdoodle cookie dough, ought to be included on the dessert menu as sweet potato pie (I yam being funny!). There are only four desserts ($11 each), and the portions are not really big enough to share. My Missus received a complimentary bread pudding for her birthday; it was moist and buttery-rich with cinnamon. We lingered over excellent coffee. Service was well-paced and we were never rushed. About the onion soup: At $13.50 (same as the lobster bisque), the price seemed excessive. I subsequently used the restaurant's "contact us" link to comment and heard back from the manager, who offered us a complimentary appetizer on our next visit. Fair enough. In view of how the pandemic has challenged restaurants, some recent Yelp reviews seem unfair. Most restaurants are short of staff; there are days when key workers call in sick and/or fresh provisions don't get delivered. I've gone to several Ruth Chris; Jax FL, Memphis TN, and Las Vegas. This is by far the worse I've ever been to. The chef needs to go. It was a party of seven in which we ordered the ribeye, spicy shrimp, bbq shrimp, stuffed chicken, lamb chops, broccoli, mashed sweet potato, lobster Mac n cheese, and regular Mac n cheese. My history with Ruth Chris ribeyes is that its flavor is like none other; so much so that it's even better in the microwave the next day. That was NOT the case this time and now I'm stuck with a $71 brick trying to eat as much as I can so not to waste money. The broccoli was steamed and that's it. No salt, butter..nothing. My family said the stuffed chicken was just okay, however in no way comparable to what they got at the Vegas location (on the strip), the lamb chops dry, and the shrimp tasting like Panda Express. All I can say about the bbq shrimp is that it could've been cooked a minute longer. Now let's talk about the dress code. I called 3 times to make/change my reservations and they called once to confirm my reservations and every single time they made mention that the dress code was business casual. Ruth Chris we get it!!! My brother arrived with a designer cap on right after another male entered, also with a cap on. Also my brother was the only one asked to remove his cap. We went for my mom's belated birthday dinner. This is not your typical steak house that includes sides with your steak. Sides are additional order but its a bigger serving like 2 to 3 people can share. We ordered the ff: side dishes. Asparagus - I'm not a veggie person but i did like this. Brussel Sprouts - i did not have a taste but my brother and mom liked it. Au Gratin - i kinda expected flat round slices of potatoes coz that what i see on videos but theirs where big diced ones. Taste wise i did like ig. Not too cheesy and its creamy. Mash Potatoes - served with butter on top. Its was average. Nothing special. Of course i still compare this with Hampton Social's mash potatoes. Those are the best. Creamy Spinach - again from someone who is not a veggie person. I liked this. For the steak I ordered their RIBEYE. This was tender seasoned and cooked perfectly. I had mine medium well. I got their Creme Brulee for dessert. I would definitely order this again. Waitress was very apologetic but kind of ruined the apology by being argumentative. Most of the food was good but my steak was inedible due to oversalting. Restaurant was uncomfortably warm.
