It's has an open area but with multiple areas /room to escape and converse if needed. Two bars and couches in front of a biggest TV in bar I believe. Plus it's a bit tucked in off Bardstown Road compared to other businesses just a block or two away. This place isn't huge and excluding the recently closed Freddies, it's the smallest bar that I know of. But it's large enough to hold a crowd of perhaps 40 people comfortably, large enough to have a pool table, and it has decent sounding speakers playing your songs off of the TouchTunes Jukebox. It does have several mounted television usually showing sports as well. The place is laid out what brings to mind a shotgun house- you step in and what you see straight back against the far wall is it. But it brings people a bit closer and with the varying types of crowds that sometimes show up, it's nice to mingle with people you normally wouldn't with at a larger bar. Left Field Lounge has many beer bottles but also has a rotating selection of multiple beers on tap including some craft beer. I've been served by different bartenders and service from all of them has been exceptional. They've answered questions when I was unsure about certain beers, and they've had some great recommendations and given me samples to make sure I would like the choice. And they have all been really kind people persons. The place could use a bit of upgrades, it's a bit of an older place, but it has all that's needed to have a good time. Music, TV, a pool table, and if there is no one else around, the bartenders make great conversation if you need it!

This was a company outing and we had lots of people from out of town in for a conference .. we had the whole upstairs to ourselves and THIS is what we had to show them!!!.. a trashy place with floors coming up in multiple places... dirty games that didn't quite work right. (I played a game for 75cents then played the same game right after and it cost a dollar??) Huh?.. ok.. Pool tables haven't been cleaned in YEARS!!!.. half of the pool sticks didn't have tips on them (replace them.. why are they even still on the racks???)... my coworker said the wine was so bad he walked across the street to another bar to get some descent wine.. They don't care so much they had a sign posted up stating "They don't have two F*$%'s to give!?!?!?!... REALLY!?!?!.... And this is a Business in a what is supposed to be a "tourist destination"... It was ok though, we just went to grab food and were able to bring it in and eat. This is basically a place to play games and drink. During the conferences I attend, the Conservatory is always busy and lively in the mornings when everyone is grabbing food from Thelma's and in the evening when everyone is grabbing a drink from the bar (super-friendly bartenders and good drinks, by the way) and socializing or watching a game one of the three large televisions. Most recently, they've added more comfortable seating for patrons. One year, we all gathered at the windows to watch the exciting rescue of a truck driver when her semi went over the edge of the bridge. Would I come here just because? Probably not. But I enjoy spending time in here when I stay at the Galt.

The Center Bar is a real estate agent's dream: it offers location, location, location. It's situated right in the middle of the Derby City casino floor. You're gambling and thirsty? A cold drink is steps away. Want to watch pretty much any sport on TV? You can get that, too. I consumed what may be the saltiest Bloody Mary I've ever had. And I like salty. Thank goodness for the beer chaser. On reflection, I would stick to the bottled offerings. The bar's specialties read like an '80s child's dream: Bahama Mama, Tequilia Sunrise, Long Island Tea. They're appealing to the casino crowd who probably can't operate their smart phones but have somehow figured out the complicated video slots and don't mind the constant noise (you can't banter with the bartender if you can't hear them). If you want food at the Center Bar, you can order from Eats. You'll have to go get it yourself and eat out of plastic to-go containers, but again, you don't have to drive somewhere in the dark or rain. And bottles of water are free. Which will help dilute that salty Bloody Mary.
