Been ordering lunch from here the last few weeks and have been pretty happy so far. Always arrives quick and well packaged. I have ordered the Windsor Burger with onions,peppers and mushrooms. The burger was cooked right and had great taste, solid fries as well,pickle and cole slaw. the Shrimp basket had very large, well fried shrimps with the same fries and plenty of tartar sauce and also had a Reuben panini which was good if a bit messy but i guess that comes with the territory. My coworker loves their chili and gets it every few weeks. They give a huge portion of chili over rice with the usual accoutrements. I also got my favorite diner dessert a Linzer tart and it was as good a Linzer as I have had in a long time. Plenty of raspberry jam and the cookie had the perfect texture. If they bake these in house I salute them. read more

3.5 I dined here twice in the past, but it was years ago (brunch/lunch). After a notable absence, I recently had lunch at Windsor Diner which was for the most part, positive. The space was very clean and cozy. Interior ambience leaned towards a sports/baseball theme. No greasy diner odor or any odor for that matter. Service was a tad slow overall and after a few minutes of browsing the extensive menu, we placed our lunch order. I was in the mood for Grilled Chicken Sandwich on pita with lettuce and tomatoes. There was a fine print note that Pita bread was $0.55 extra and tomatoes were $0.50 extra. No biggie. The other sandwich order was Fresh Turkey on a roll. Sandwiches come accompanied with a pickle and Cole slaw. I absolutely loved my selection. The chicken was cooked just right and the pita bread was toasted. Yummy and I forgot to snap a photo of the sandwich since it was so good. When the check arrived, I noticed my sandwich price was elevated in addition to the pita and tomatoes extra charge. Turned out, the menu was supposedly old and the pita bread was actually $1.00 extra. I'm not fussed about the additional $0.45 but principle dictates that the current prices should be honored until the new menu is put in place.. I thought it was kind of off putting. In addition, there was the credit card surcharge not stated anywhere on the menu or check. Hmmm. Overall, one might view this as an insignificant observation, but it brings about an awareness of how a business operates. PUKE. I ordered for delivery- the "turkey dinner" with mashed potatoes, corn and stuffing... yeah right. The turkey was so gross I gave it to the dog. The potatoes were from out of a box, zero taste. The corn came out of a can from 1957. The stuffing... Ok, this was so disgusting, two pieces of white bread (Wonder) with a few bits of carrots and celery and raisins, all glued together with a brown glop posing as gravy. I would not recommend this place if you have any kind of good sensitivities. I have a specific allergy and ordered a sandwich asking them to not put the ingredient on it. They still made it with the ingredient and I brought it back in asking that they remake it and told them it was because I had an allergy. They brought it back out and I asked that they confirm they had remade because it was an allergy. They said that it was. I took it home and took and bite and could still taste the remnant it still on sandwich and started having an allergic reaction because instead of remaking it like they assured me, they just took it off the same sandwich and gave it back to me. It's really dangerous for them to say they didn't put an ingredient on the food after being told there's an allergy just to save a buck on sandwich ingredients. Unacceptable. read more

Such a cute diner with tasty food! Food - I ordered the corn beef hash with eggs benedict. It was quite tasty! I loved the flavor of the corn beef and appreciated that the sunny side up eggs came out just the way I like 'em! We got coffee but it was just okay. Service - Very friendly and fast service. No complaints! Environment - The space is VERY cozy. If you sit in a booth, prepare to feel a little tight as it is very condensed. We were the first customers as they opened at 7 am. Had the old staples of eggs, (I had scrambled eggs, my dining partner opted for Sunny side up) with toast and hash browns. Omg this place is awful and the owner was extremely rude. We ordered omelettes, which were inedible as either the eggs themselves or the tomatoes in them were stale. The waiter forgot our side order and we just ate the home fries, which were fine. Waiter kept asking us if something was wrong and I pointed to the bug that was in between my rye toast (that we discovered). He quickly took it away, didn't replace it, didn't apologize and kept asking us about the omelettes. So we told him, he ran to the owner who then came over grabbed our plates and started questioning us what the problem was. So we repeated ourselves kindly but he kept defiantly stating that there's no way things could be bad. So then I told him about the bug to which he said "oh that must have just happened out here in the eating area"; muttered something about how the omelettes could not be stale...and begrudgingly threw out our food and said "we will only charge you for the orange juice" How about you adopt the idea that your customers' experience is more important than your pride? And be kind, especially if your customers are maintaining decorum and respect despite an awful service and food experience! read more

I hate to give one star, but this place is really not good. Firstly, they somehow mess up the diner classics. The omelettes are not great, and they don't even serve decaf coffee! The service was also sub par. They take forever to come check on you, whether it be for water, to order, or the check. And worst of all I ordered a slice of cheesecake...which was moldy!!!! I ordered a cherry pie instead, which tasted like it came from the grocery store...and was overpriced. Would NOT recommend this diner. read more

After I settled down at the corner booth, waiter Andres quickly said that Bebe is working at the kitchen this evening. Remembering the special touch by the young cook, I decided to try the Fruit Surprise and the Pea Soup. The home made soup and croutons on Thursdays are worth waiting for. The thick blend of green peas was substantial. The freshly fried house croutons made one forget health guidelines. One would sin for the taste of the soup accentuated by the crispy golden brown cubes. When Andres brought to the table the large white plate of fruit salad, he led me to the climax of the meal. While still living in the shadow of Covid, the carved rose of strawberry rested on the seat of white cottage cheese, surrounded by circles of cut melon, honeydew, sliced orange and blueberries. Darkness vanished in the festive colors of the magical wheel. In the rhythm of nature's deep blue, sun yellow, translucent pale green and pure red, I traced back the chef's hand. I dared not dismantle the artwork while I enjoyed piece by piece the fresh fruits. I know I am letting go my secret: the Fruit Surprise at Windsor Cafe is a gem. read more

Pretty solid breakfast with the running club on Saturday morning after a race event in Prospect Park. Even though the joint was packed they found us a booth, cleaned it off quickly, handed us menus and much needed coffee. Typical large diner menu, with the appropriate large plates full of tasty food. Do not order delivery form this restaurant! I ordered waffles, onion rings, and steak tips! My waffles arrived cold and wet. It is not even soggy! It is wet. Onion rings are not seasoned and badly cooked! The restaurant had the nerve to charge $6.25 for it. Steaks tips is unacceptably bad! It arrived with a few pieces of meat, unseasoned fried sweet potatoes, and boiled string beans. Where is the RICE, MUSHROOMS, ONION, AND MY FRENCH ONION SOUP? Oh, and look at the butter packet they restaurant gave me! Some other customer didn't finish this butter and the restaurant decided to recycle it by giving it to me! Sometimes all you want is a no-frills breakfast, and that's exactly what I got. My daughter ordered pancakes and I got a bacon and American cheese omelet with home fries. The omelet was cooked to perfection and the portion sizes were very filling. The service was also excellent and very attentive at checking in and making sure everything was to our liking. The prices were also comparable to any run-of-the-mill diner spot. I recommend if you want something low-key and don't want to wait in line an hour for breakfast. read more

Been here a few times but my last outing here was miserable when I brought my dog. She recently had a bad experience eating outside so I have been trying to reacquaint her with the experience. She does not like it if I leave her side so I look for places that provide waiter services. As such I was pretty happy to see Windsor Cafe had a few tables setup outside. It does force foot traffic to get close to the tables (the tables were setup on different ends of the sidewalk) but it wasn't super cramped. The tables/chairs were pretty sturdy too which is good if you have a dog and don't want her to be startled by wireframe furniture falling over. The waiter service here wasn't the greatest to start off with. It took such a long time for a waiter to give us a menu that I thought there wasn't any waiter service at all. When the staff finally did arrive I will admit he was quite courteous and he did hand us our food in a timely manner. The issue though is that after giving us our food it was the last time I ever saw him. Someone else, a non waiter it looked like from their clothes, handed us our check then never attended back to us. This was fairly late in the evening so they were closing up around 7-8. When I asked this same individual, he was now packing up the tables, if he would please return the check inside he told us we had to do it ourselves. Eventually I had to flag him twice to tell him I don't want to leave my dogs side because she might panic from the foot traffic and for me not being nearby. Finally he took the check with my card but then we had to wait another long period of time before I can get my receipt. Overall a normally 30-40 minute dining experience took more then an hour of our time and left us stranded at the end of it as I was banking on our waiter to help us out. Do not go here if you have children in strollers or dogs. The staff her apparently care more about closing then helping their guests in need. read more

Disco fries! Being a Jersey kid transplanted to Brooklyn, props to any diner that offers disco fries. Now if we could get them to offer pork roll/Taylor ham, I'd give 5 stars. Visited on New Year's Day. They were overwhelmed and very busy so we expected to wait a bit; no problem. We both ordered off the brunch menu. I ordered the eggs grande. The waiter asked a confusing question about if I wanted brunch or by itself. The brunch menu included a beverage (I didn't need that so I said by itself). My partner had ordered the coffee with his. Then the waiter kept pushing a beverage which was confusing because he said it came with coffee and juice. We ordered a juice since he said it came with both. The brunch menu said choice of coffee, juice, mimosa or sangria.Neither of us drinks juice, if I realized what mistake was coming I would've ordered the mimosa. The entree delivered was a regular benedict, not the special. He corrected it but kind of gave me a hard time saying he asked. At the end of the meal when the bill came we brought up the entire happenings and he basically blamed us in a very loud voice. I expect this in NY but to not apologize for the mistake he made or try to make it right was my problem. Both entrees were mediocre at best and for $24 each, not worth the price. I think this is a really nice place. The food is fine, but the people give it that extra boost. I usually get a burger or a chicken sandwich and they are always hot and tasty, even though I get them to go and carry them home. Brunch is always good there and I love the pancakes and they have good coffee. But I think the real appeal is Hercules and the gang. Everyone is so friendly and cool, you really feel welcome. A local diner catering to local folks in the neighborhood. You get a sense of close community dining here the minute you walk in. This place serves your typical American fare with a big menu for everyone. They have burgers, salads, pizza, sandwiches, pasta, breakfast, etc... The portions are huge so you can definitely share plates unless you're a big eater. I came here for lunch with my mother in law and she had the grill chicken sandwich and I ordered the shrimp scampi. Also ordered pizza for my daughter. FYI: their pizza is really melted cheese with sauce on a pita so I would not recommend it as it was extremely soggy. The grill chicken sandwich was good (not dry) and comes with fries. The shrimp scampi was nicely flavored and serves with rice. I honestly didn't have much expectations but the shrimp was really good, better than some italian places I've been to. Overall, this is a good place to sit down and eat if you're not sure what you're in the mood to eat. Definitely have lots of options to choose from. read more

2 Stars might be GENEROUS given the phone call I just had. However, I can honest that while the food arrived cold, it was still delicious. So why in the world would I be upset? Ordered Spare Rips Served Over Rice and Mushrooms and Onions. As you can see in the picture, a slop of steak, mushrooms and onions without rice is what came. In the description, it says Served, keyword, "WITH" a side of potato, vegetable and soup. Oooh those sides came alright. I work in a hospitality group myself and also deal with these kinds of misunderstandings quite often so of course the tone I first used was concerned rather than badgering. I asked if there was some confusion since the steak was suppose to come with rice. This is where it gets good. The Gentlemen who answered replies nonchalantly "WELL. You ordered the sides. If you ordered sides, it doesnt come with rice" and I responded with "umm okay but, from the descriptions its suppose to come with rice" He then answers "if you pick a side, we assume you dont want rice." I was AT SUCH A LOSS FOR WORDS, more at his stone cold matter-of-fact voice than what he said. Honestly he made ME feel like i had to apologize LOL. I just said "oooh okay" and he's like "yup bye" Now just to make sure I wasn't crazy, i went back and confirmed that I indeed had no choice but to choose a side (picture 4) I called back and told the gentlemen "well i kinda want what I ordered, I dont even care about the sides but I cant order that without choosing" Again, trying to make ME feel dumb he replied "well you should just write in the description that you didnt want the sides and just rice. Sorry it misled you" Honestly at this point, I wouldve just taken a "im very sorry for the confusion, we will correct this with grubhub, you shouldnt have to deal with that" because this is something I do at my job working in a food market hall all day. But NO sincerity at all. The advice he offered was to call Grubhub and order again with the description of no sides, just rice. I ordered yogurt and granola, I paid 8.25. I was given the most horrendous yogurt ever and the most basic granola a man could find. Windsor Cafe revolts me, I am now a broken man, my life will never be the same as this will weigh on me till my last breath leaves my mouth. This is the reliable, comforting neighborhood restaurant I've been looking for! Windsor Cafe is unpretentious and serves up huge platters of classic American diner fare at bargain prices. Everyone here was so friendly, whether they were working or dining and I felt right at home. The employees know all the regulars. Their menu is expansive and they have weeknight dinner specials and sandwiches, although the main draw for me was the breakfast! We came here for brunch and I had the delicious Western omelet. The food arrived super quickly. My eggs were served over a huge mound of hash browns, which were so tasty and well seasoned with a little chopped green pepper mixed in. The omelet also came with toast. All this plus bottomless coffee and I was in heaven. We couldn't resist the beautiful pies displayed in the front window and tried a slice of meringue. It was amazing, with a mountain of pillowy soft meringue and gooey, tangy lemon curd. The folks at the table next to us were enjoying the brunch mimosa special - so I'll obviously be back soon to try that! read more

And sure enough it exactly was what I wanted... Very tasty and fresh; very attentive customer service and not a long wait for takeout... This is my go-to. I'm religiously here on Sunday mornings for Brunch, & grab breakfast or dinner here a few times a week. The staff is awesome. Even before I became a regular, they knew my order with omissions and substitutions. Now I don't even need a menu, I just sit down and food happens. The decor is homey; lots of exposed brick, dark woods, the vibe alive but never loud. Even on a busy Sunday morning. It's a good place to get those Instaselfies if you wanna look good (In fact my profile picture is in this place). The food is tops, and they give you good portions. My regular breakfast meal is a fruit cup, bacon, and home fries. I could easily split one meal between two people if I was with another light to modeerate eater. But even my healthy eater husband leaves full. My regular dinner is the chicken sandwich with bun ommited, and fries. Their fries are awesome, and the chicken is cooked over charcoal. I normally round it out with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. My only criticism is not really something they are at fault for, and that's the menu not having many gluten-free options.
