Came in to see the cats. I approached the front and there was no greeting. I was being stared at like I was an alien. So I asked can I just come in? No one answered. So I walked in. Sat down it got quiet... then a woman approached me with such malicious tone and look and asked if I signed in. I told her oh no I wasn't aware, so I got up to go do so. She then states and there's a fee! I was like uhhhh ok? And she just stared at me with disgust. So I said you know what its ok you guys aren't very welcoming so I'll just leave. Nothing was said. I get the feeling if you don't fit to "look" you're not welcomed. Unfortunately that's the world now. So sad. read more

I was very much looking forward to my visit. I came here last week and was very excited to visit, and boy, was I greatly disappointed. First off - smell. It hit me the moment I walked in. The owners talked about having air purifiers now, but if they did, it was insanely ineffective. Litter and cat pee immediately upon entering. I understood there were many cats here so I tried to look past it. When I walked in, I was greeted by a very chaotic young worker. She was loud, unprofessional in how she handled welcoming visitors, and was unable to do her job without defaulting to her manager/the owner.. She talked too fast to fully understand everything she said. We had to sign a waiver that stated that we could get hurt inside and that they wouldn't be responsible or whatever. That was the first red flag of my visit, because why are we letting aggressive cats roam about when there are visitors here? I can't imagine what injuries could happen if you took young children here. The worker then let us in and showed us around for about 5 minutes... she pointed out multiple cats that we should not approach under any circumstances because they can be aggressive and will "bite the hell out of you." Again, why are we setting visitors up for injury by letting these cats roam about? I can understand if cats have "bad" days where they act up, but keeping them out front constantly while knowing they are not friendly to visitors cannot mean any good.. When I started petting one of the cats she took it as her opportunity to walk away from me. Right after saying to watch out for cat pee on the couches. Ew. Every single cat seemed very stressed. It was a cramped room with many cats hiding or shying away from both workers and visitors alike. I was hissed at by two cats and my finger was bit by one, though I did not make a scene about it (and decided to leave very soon after) especially after how they pressed me about the liability waiver. And if you think about it - they would only have a waiver if there was past injury to visitors that had happened. A lady even mentioned that the cat that bit me was being mean for a couple days before... Why in the world are we forcing the cat to socialize if they don't want to? One thing I want to mention is that the workers were all quite young and definitely unwelcoming, very cliquey. They looked like they were one giant high school friend group working together (and failing to work professionally and properly for it being a true organization). They only spoke to each other, and quite loudly at that, while constantly walking up to the various cats and petting and handling them without care. I tried to approach a worker once or twice with questions and was promptly ignored, as if they didn't hear me at all. Honestly, with all of the touching and handling from just the workers alone, I can understand just how some of these cats were a little spicy. And regardless if they were a worker or volunteer, you are signing up to do the labor that is required of you professionally to maintain this workspace. If they can't do it, they shouldn't be here. If they're only here to bother and pester the cats, I can't comprehend the point of keeping these workers around... you pay a fee as a visitor to get in, so these kids looked like they were here just for free entry. All in all, I would never return to this place. Honestly my biggest concern is for the welfare of these cats. Too many cats cramped in one room, obviously stressed due to the aggression they display and visitors are warned about, the lingering cat pee smell, uncleanliness, the bad vibe from the workers. I don't know how this place stays open, organization or not. Those cats deserve a better home, and I hope that they'll soon be rescued from this self-proclaimed rescue org. read more

My kiddo and I really love cats so we decided to visit this business. At first we couldn't get in, but soon enough am employee let us in. There is a fee, but for one, I think it's to help feed the kitties, not to mention make sure they have litter places to climb/play on etc. Also, if you are active duty or a veteran of the military the fee is reduced. You can choose to just get some information if you prefer. All the cats there are adoptable which is great if you can give them a good home. As a visitor who stays an hour you are given a small cup with some little treats to give the felines. The cats definitely have different purr-sonalities. Most of them, I believe are seniors, but I think they also had two kittens when we went. With so many cats there is also a strong scent so be warned if you have a sensitive nose/sense of smell. read more

Oh my goodness I'm in love. This is pure bliss for cat lovers. There are cats of all shapes, sizes, and ages to play with. For $20 an hour (the funds go directly to the cats' expenses) you can play with them all you'd like! The volunteers were super friendly and informative, introducing us to each cat, telling us their backstories, and explaining their demeanors. They also gave us treats to lure the cats in and I had a blast seeing all the different personalities come to life. The cool thing about this place is they're a non-profit organization run by volunteers, and all the cats are up for adoption! There are also volunteer opportunities if you're interested. They have a stamp card system where if you visit a certain amount of times, you get a free visit. So if this place sounds like it's up your alley, come pay a visit! It was a cute and friendly space but the cats energy levels are a bit hit or miss. The area for the resting cats was tight so being in with my brothers was not an ideal situation so I sat outside the rooms at one point to have more space. The play area was better is you want fun and energetic cats. read more

We live in Martinez and visit this shopping center quite a bit. I take my son to look at the cats in the window but we hadn't been inside yet. Yesterday we had friends visiting for the holiday and their daughter loves cats so we stepped in to see if we could spend some time with the cats. But after about 5 seconds we had to leave because the smell was so bad. Like urine or cat spray. My body started having an immediate reaction to the smell it was incredibly strong. I've been to other cat cafes and the smell was not an issue. They need to make some changes or the business won't last. read more

Went here with my family. There are no reservations so you need to wait on busy days. There is a CPK next door so you can put your name on a waiting list and grab a meal. The cats here are friendlier than other cat cafes we have visited. The place is a clean and pleasant and the fee is reasonable. So happy that CCC has a cat cafe! I came here with some friends this afternoon and we had a lot of fun with the cats. The cats are adorable and sweet. They give you treats to feed them, which the cats love. Cost is $20/hour for adults and the money goes to caring for these adorable cats. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. They took the time to tell us about the different cats' personalities, which we appreciated as it was our first time. They also have cat themed merchandise - I didn't get anything today but maybe next time. I found this place on TikTok. I was so happy it was in the Bay Area. I called to verify they were open and the owner was so nice. It's in a shopping center so there is plenty of parking. You can't miss it there's literally cats on the window. You walk in and on the side there are free books they give you. You pay as soon as you walk in it's $20 for adult, $10 for kids, and they give you a discount if you're a student. It's like a giant living room. We were greeted by someone who worked there took our payment. She took her time to show us pictures of every cat and explain their personalities. The couches are very relaxing. There are a lot of cats. They give you treats to give to the cats. There's plenty of cat scratchers , toys, and places for cats to nap. The entire staff is extremely nice and friendly. This place has literally saved cats lives. They definitely stand for a great cause. Highly recommend to come here and if you can adopt a cat. read more

Went next door to the yogurt shop, was sitting outside enjoying my frozen yogurt, I see a t mobile employee knocking on the door to the cat lounge,the t mobile employee was very upset about the smell the cats were causing . Seems like the odor was causing the people at the t mobile store to get sick ... just as the cat lounge employee closed the door out came a very strong odor of cat urine it was so nasty. This is not right at all. If they can't take care of their cats then don't even have them. This is a huge health and safety hazard t mobile should contact osha!!! Have been coming to the Cat Chillin Zone (formerly The Cat Lounge) in Martinez for almost an entire year. I love the wonderful variety of cats there (up to 25) and the friendly volunteers that make it work. Great effort is made to keep the place as clean as possible, which can be a chore with that many cats, but the volunteers and staff bend over backwards to do a really great job. It makes me so sad to see these bad reviews claiming this place smells of cat urine. This is a rescue. These cats are brought here because they were discarded. Of course they're not going to have the best behavioral habits. This isn't a cute cat cafe that only has purebred kitties purchased from a breeder or a cafe that just constantly cycles out cute kittens. This is a rescue based cat lounge that gives these cats an opportunity to be adopted while having a safe place to live. The lounge and furniture and games are perfectly clean and the cats are a testament to how well they are cared for. They are bright eyed and happy and healthy. We walked in to this new business today just to see what it was about. Being a pet owner of dogs, cats, tortoise and fish. I get the concept, a homier place to interact with the cats for adoption and really spend time with them. Good. Staff seemed friendly, cats seemed happy. What got us was the undeniable urine smell! It was so bad we left. The smell was overwhelming! I discussed it with a neighbor and her friends had visited and said the same thing. Not sure what they can implement to take care of that situation. This is a fun place for cat lovers. I went in and was given treats to hand out to the resident cats. I played with some kittens and had an older cat sit and purr on my lap. When I'm ready to get a new kitty I will definitely adopt one from here, I met so many cool cats. Until then, I know I can come in and hang out and get my cat fix. read more
