"It is fun to have fun but you have to know how." The Cat in the Hat I am a huge Cat in the Hat fan although I always wonder why their mother never taught them about stranger danger when I read the book with the kids at school. Good thing they had that fish babysitter. My appreciation for the book was really sharpened during the few months I had a student read it to me everyday because it was the only thing that made him sit still for more than 30 seconds. Scores of children grew up learning to read on the Cat and the Hat. If you haven't seen it since you were a kid it is actually pretty long. The ride opened with the park on May 28, 1999 as the flagship attraction of Seuss Landing. It is best for small children or anyone who has never been on it but for me however it is more of a place to sit back and relax for a few minutes. We were able to walk on which is the only reason we rode. The cars and loading area were looking a little dingy. The indoor ride takes you through the story with audio, video, and animatronics. The Cat in the Hat makes a mess, the fish scolds, Thing One and Thing Two clean it up just in time for mom to come home and you exit out to the gift shop. It was a good place to rest before heading off to one of the more exciting attractions. read more

Fun for all ages and the theme is thorough throughout the outside, inside, and ride. It's true to the book and the detail is fun. Only disappointment is that the Cat's voice is not the one from.the live action movie so it's not as nostalgic as it could be, but that was likely too expensive. The Cat In The Hat is a ride at Universal Islands of Adventure. If you're a fan of the Dr.Seuss books, you have to ride The Cat In the Hat! It's a slow, dark ride, geared towards children. In the beginning of the morning, there was pretty much no wait time. Towards the evening hours, there also was a little to no wait time as well. During the day however, wait times can get to approximately 20 minutes, summertime. Inside the queue, it's air conditioned and "Cat In the Hat" themed. If you've gone to Disney World or Disneyland, this ride is comparison to Winnie The Pooh, or Snow White at Disneyland. The ride takes you through The Cat In the Hat story. The cat goes through the house and you get to see memorable characters from the story such as Thing 1 and Thing 2. There is several twists and turns throughout the ride. My family and I enjoyed the ride! It's a nice break from standing in waiting queues for certain rides like the Harry Potter! read more

This rIde is located in Seuss Landing of Islands of Adventure. ZZZZZZZZZZ!!!! This ride is very boring. My two year old did not like it at all and wanted to get off of the ride about half way through. It is cute, but cheesy and definitely was not worth the 30 minutes or so of my time that I waited to get on. Most of the line to wait is indoors. The plus of the ride is that children of all ages can get on it. No family member left behind, but as I have mentioned, it is somewhat of a sleeper. The ride sends you through a Seuss book in a 'couch car" the can seat 6, but 4 comfortably. On the ride you see some animated Things doing some mischievous stuff. The majority of the scenes from the ride are based directly on the pictures that appeared in the Seuss classic. The ride ends in one of the Seuss Landing gift shops. So be prepared to either buy your kids some souvenirs or rush them out of the store The ride is pretty old, opening in 1999 as the signature side in the newly opened Seuss Landing. The ride has not had many upgrades since. I nor my littles were not impressed with this ride. I could have easily done without it. Given that most rides you have to wait for, including this one. I would probably recommend investing your time in one of those lines versus this one. read more

What a fun but very dated ride. It desperately needs an overhaul both inside and out. Other than updates, this ride continues to be one of my favorites and I have not ridden it in years until a recent trip here. The queue is pretty long and winding, helping with crowds when it's busy. During the trip though, it was a literal walk on! Upon getting to the front of the line, you use the sanitizer they pump into your hand and are placed in your own vehicle to promote distancing during these times. The ride itself is shockingly long and very twisty and turny so be careful if you have any neck or back problems. The animatronics definitely need to be replaced and updated due to how old they are. Quite a few were not working and a lot of the paint was chipping in areas of the ride but overall it is still a great ride with a cute story. I definitely recommend this ride but not if the wait is longer than 30 minutes for sure. read more

Entertaining whether you're a Dr. Seuss fan or not. I was never the biggest Dr. Seuss fan growing up, but appreciated aspects of the books and was a fan of the original Grinch Christmas cartoon. My son wanted to do this ride, so we ended up on it. It wasn't bad and entertaining enough. Compared to other Disney and Universal rides, this will appear a little more dated. The ride takes you through the Cat In The Hat book (hence the name), so if you know the book you'll know what to expect here. The animatronics are nicely done. The ride twists and turns, but is not too rough. Most children will enjoy the ride. Located in the Seuss Landing area of Universal's Islands of Adventure part of the park. It's a can't miss as the big hat out front is easy to spot. Even if you're not a fan, it's worth doing at least once. It's an easy ride. As usual, depending on the day and/or the crowds, there can be a line. It's not one of the most in demand rides of the park, so if you have a game plan to do other things, this could be on the lower end of the priority list and be done later in the day. read more

This is a fun ride. I have been a Dr. Seuss fan since I was a child, so my inner-child would have dreamed of coming here and being a part of this world. We really first came here years ago when the kids were finally tall enough to ride most of the attractions, but they were still young enough to appreciate this section of the park. Now they are older and still appreciate the vision of Dr. Seuss and his fun stories and creatures. My daughter told me the ride had been a bit faster and twirled you even more, but I personally do not remember. Considering that you do spin a bit, this ride reminds me of a milder Men in Black without a laser gun. It is really fun and if you enjoyed this story, this is your ride. Personally, as a family, we even loved the live action Cat in the Hat movie, so we have a good time with this attraction. The gift shop is also adorable. We ended up buying some the Cat in the Hat themed chocolate bars to take home. And my daughter purchased a Thing plush toy. The best thing about this area is that is has not been overcrowded during Spring Break. The lines have been about five to ten minutes long and it is a fun way to get out of the sun for a bit and rest on a less intense ride. A fun ride with a whimsical throw back story for those that grew up with these books! The line is always short - think 10 minutes or less. It's a good ride for younger ones, as it doesn't have too many twists and turns. It runs pretty much straight through the book narrative with the classic mischievous cat in the hat running a muck through a house with things 1 and 2. It's nicely air conditioned from the line to the end of the ride, so it's a great way to recoup on a hot day and get a break. Considering this is meant for children, this was a fun, creative, and story-telling ride that is very family friendly. It tells the story of The Cat in the Hat, just like the movie - with the talking fish, thing 1 and thing 2, etc. There are some turns, so if you have vertigo or motion sickness, you may feel queasy on this one; but I didn't find it horrible. Ain't no shame in my game! And during that solo time, I rode The Cat in the Hat. This ride is super cute with classic Dr. Seuss rhymes from The Cat in the Hat story complete with Thing 1 and Thing 2. It's a classic dark ride taking you through scene after scene of fun. It could use a bit of updating though - I saw some things that needed fresh paint and just general cleaning up. I'm sure kids will think it's cute though and when other rides had waits up to 2 hours, I walked right onto this kiddie ride and there was no one else even riding around me. When I finished the ride....Riding alone in my little car....the worker said, "Good for you." Maybe there's a little shame in my game. read more

While walking through Seuss Landing at the Universal's Island of Adventure, we found this ride to have very little waiting in line! You start by sitting on a moving "couch" and find yourself traveling through the dark tunnels of the whimsical world of Dr. Seuss. Considering this as a kid's ride, it should probably get a 4 or 5. But I'm taking a more subjective point of view so I'm giving The Cat in the Hat a 3. We had almost no wait when we rode The Cat in the Hat and reading through a few Yelp reviews that seems to be pretty much standard. It's nice and air conditioned under that giant red and white hat so it's a nice respite from a sun baked midway. The Cat in the Hat is basically a Universal answer to It's a Small World Afterall with a bit of a teacup ride thrown in here and there. (Islands of Adventure also has a proper teacup ride themed after Storm from the X-Men but I skipped it.) It's cute and it's cool to see Theodor Geisel's drawings depicted with sculptures but it's a mild pleasure for a childless man of my age. Young ones would no doubt find the spins here and there far more thrilling than I. Amusement parks need rides like this and The Cat in the Hat is good for the niche it fills. read more

Lots of twirling and visual eye candy to look at. enjoyable for kids and parents alike. There's some spinning around moments so beware with that if you have motion sickness. This is such a fun little ride that is sure to please kids of all ages. As long as there's little to no wait, this is something I never miss when I'm at Islands of Adventure. I've been on it more times than I can possibly count and still to this day it doesn't fail to have me laughing and smiling. If you have little ones, this is an absolute must-do no matter how long the line is. It's nice that both the ride and the queue are indoors so even if you're having to wait a while to get on the ride, at least you're in the a/c and out of the Florida heat! You hop into a car with a seat in the front and a seat in the back. 2-3 people can fit on one seat depending on how big the people are. For example, 2 adults and 1 child can generally fit on one seat. Make sure to hold on tight (even you adults) because this ride does spin you and twirl you to and fro without warning. It can be a little jerky, but it's mostly smooth, and the spinning and twirling is fun! You ride through while listening to a Dr. Suess story while looking at all kinds of really cool Cat In The Hat set-ups. There's definitely something cool and interesting to look at around every turn. I don't want to give anything away, but if you're very curious, there are a ton of photos people have posted, so you can take a gander at those. Even if you're not a fan of Dr. Suess, I'm sure you'll enjoy this great ride. read more

This is an ok ride that takes you through the Cat in the Hat. It's got little scenes from the book as well as voiceover reading it. It twists and turns so if you get motion sick just be aware. Basically you get to ride through a Dr. Seuss book acted out with some very cool "timeless" animatronics plus narration. Everything is pretty mellow in Seussland! This ride is similar in style, I think, to the Winnie the Pooh Ride at Magic Kingdom. You bounce around and the characters pop in and out. Its dark then its light, I think its pretty fun. There's never any wait and it lasts longer than Pooh. Its a good break from all of the simulators and thrill rides at Islands of Adventure so I do it whenever I can. Its a good flashback to the Dr Seuss days of your youth, or bring your kids to enjoy the Dr Seuss stories of their youth. Even if you're not a kid, this ride is not bad. It's pretty much going through the whole story in a ride. sometimes I end up rhyming my sentences after riding the ride. There's some spinning around moments so beware with that if you have motion sickness. You can take photos or videos here, they will actually stop your ride until you put away from your device. My friends and I got stop once cuz we were taking pictures. Lol. The lines usually don't take long here unless it's raining. It's one of the few rides that still operates when there's rain, thunder, or lightning. It's not a very thrilling ride but still decent. read more

This is a ride you can definitely skip. It has great potential, but needs to be renovated. I love Dr. Seuss, so I waited 40 minutes in line for this ride. It was definitely underwhelming. You're taken through a modified Cat in the Hat story. It is such a great idea, but the execution is lacking. There are old models that you pass by that illustrate the story. I really wish that this was a complete immersion experience. The world of Dr. Seuss is so rich that this hardly does it justice. This is one of the rides I call a Small World Ride. The Cat in the Hat is a dark ride based on the famous book of the same name. I felt the ride was very basic and the animatronics were somewhat old-fashioned. I felt like there was so much more they could've done with the ride, especially because of the characters and excitement in the Seuss world. The ride doesn't spin anymore, which I think is a good thing. It now is a decently smooth ride until the end where it spins maybe twice, but still nothing that makes you sick. The ride stopped and The Cat in the Hat was in a weird spider machine with intent on my death in his mind. It's weird and slightly terrifying. And I like it. That is a perfect way to describe this ride, from my perspective (which is likely different from how most people perceive it). It's not terrifying in the traditional sense of getting your heart pounding from crazy loops and falls. Oh no. It's terrifying in the sense that it's like an acid trip gone wrong. Most people refer to it as cute, and I just wouldn't go that far. This is an inside track-type of "coaster". There's a very small two-person seat, and you loop around on a track. It's child-sized, but two small adults can fit in a seat together, too. You follow a storyline about the Cat, with a narrative the whole way through. You're greeted by bright colors, animatronics, weirdly shaped things, perspective shifts, short bursts of acceleration, and spinning around. I think it's the classic, the Cat messes up the room of the kids, and the kids are scrambling to get it cleaned before their parents come home. It's almost over-stimulating, which probably makes it perfect for kids who've grown up on this sort of thing. If you or your child is a fan of the Cat and Seuss-style animatronics, then I'm sure you'd enjoy this ride. There really is just so much to see. At times, your entire scope of vision is filled with a ton of "eye candy"--literally. Bright colors, several scenes going on at once, animatronics swirling, bobbing, and dodging; just a bunch of different scenes doing all sorts of different things. It's like a cat with a hat, and a rat with a bat, chasing and pacing, and--uh oh--splat! Ahem... Anyways, while I like the Cat in the Hat just fine, I was brought up reading more advanced and less lyrical children's books. I enjoy the light, creative writing of Seuss, and I can respect his legacy, but man this "ride" makes me think I'd be pretty psyched if they ever created an Alice in Wonderland-style ride, with similar characteristics. I think the ride engineer who created this ride would be the best person for the job. read more

What a cute ride this was. It definitely is geared towards children! But we all grew up with the cat in the hat and I fact I do not think I know a single person who doesn't know who Dr.Suess is. The right was very whimsical, fun and entertaining. It talked to you all throughout the ride and the track was very long so you got to see a lot of the park at a higher altitude! I walked into this ride with high hopes and walked out thinking it was the worst version of a dark ride (in the style of the Peter Pan ride at Disney) that I've ever been on. This ride brought me the closest I've ever been to throwing up during an attraction and that includes the old Mission Space at EPCOT which used an actual centrifuge. To explain how bad it was, I had just gotten off the Incredible Hulk coaster which is a massive thrill ride with hard acceleration and multiple inversions and I'd rather ride that consecutively 5 times than ride Cat in the Hat once more. The theming for the ride was done reasonably well but it all got erased from my mind while I was hunched over focusing on not vomiting during what one would assume to be a borderline children's ride. It is just unacceptably aggressive for the style of ride it is with violent back and forth 180 degree spins that continue for way almost a minute toward the end of the experience. Nothing throughout my whole day at Islands of Adventure turned me off of ever returning more than this miserable excuse for a dark ride. Not a fan. read more
