I just had one of the most memorable meals of my lifetime. I knew it would be good - I mean hell... they have a Michelin star but I did not expect it to be that good. Yes, it is expensive. You will feel it. But every single bite felt intentional, surprising, and honestly friggin' magical. The tasting menu is a full on journey of culinary excellence. Some plates were playful, some were deeply comforting, and some just made me sit there in silence trying to figure out how food could taste like that... literally some bites made me be feel high - like I'd just taken a rip off of Anthony Bourdain's favorite bong. And not to mention an amazingly eclectic playlist in the background. The chefs and staff were incredible. Super knowledgeable, warm, and not pretentious at all. It felt intimate and special without being stiff or formal. You can tell they really care about the experience, not just the plating. The drinks were also fantastic. Thoughtful pairings, beautiful presentation, and everything worked with the food instead of competing with it. I'm a Negroni connoisseurs and they served me one of the best of my life. This is not a casual weeknight dinner spot. This is a "we are celebrating something" or "we love food and want to be blown away" or "we just sold a kidney" kind of place. But nevertheless, I left full inspired and genuinely grateful I got to experience it in this lifetime. Food is the ultimate art imho and I felt like I was tasting a Picasso masterpiece. If you are into food, creativity, and being surprised... and aren't a picky snob... The Catbird Seat is absolutely worth it. Save up, make a night of it, and trust the chefs. It's so damn good.

Everything about this place is 5 stars. The way the staff seemed to know exactly when I needed anything - how nice everyone was - the design of the space - and the food. The food is just another level of existence. I was sad when the dinner was over - I just wanted to keep eating. The favs for me were the chicken wing, and the mushrooms. The ingredients they use sound intimidating - stuff you'd never think to put together or taste good, but these guys are magicians and know their magic. The dishes are small, but each are a work of art. I actually prefer these small bites. They make me take my time to enjoy and savor each bite, so I can better appreciate what I'm eating. I love how they use ingredients they harvest themselves. The head chefs Andy and Tiffani are there working along with everyone. We were able to speak to Andy for a bit and he was so approachable and polite. I always thought Michelin starred places only had snooty chefs. Not here. I honestly wish I could work here! I cant wait to return here!

I really wanted to like this place, was excited to try one of the new class of Southern restaurants that started to get Michelin stars Here's what I liked: *Chef(s) have perspective and can build flavor *Staff is friendly and mostly attentive *When they hit the dish is delicious Here's what I didn't like: *Most of the dishes need editing, many of dishes attempt to do too much, and flavors are muddled. *Service lacks Michelin levels of hospitality *The meal feels like a rollercoaster of zigging and zagging *The NA tasting was awful, I did not drink most of it because it tasted soapy when I said this they did give me a discount but let's be honest when you get a star you need to do better. *they serve a delicious chocolate cake at the end and then brought me an after dinner drink that was so bitter my mouth can still feel it. I ended up getting some huitlacoche tacos to clear my palette. In the end the chef owners are clearly talented, however they are doing that thing where they are more concerned about what they create than what the diner experiences. It's why they are trying too hard to be bold, and have a perspective but it feels like sometimes they don't have a clear picture of their voice. The irony is if they didn't have a star I would probably have thought it was really good for a local Nashville restaurant. But the star creates a new standard. If you've never been to a Michelin experience you will probably enjoy it throughly because it's interesting, but if you've been to more than one in your life you'll probably chalk this into the 50% of one star restaurants that you aren't sure how they got their star because the other 50% of one stars are so amazing.

Food is incredible. It's fine dining and creative so there are some very unique items that you need to be open to. The service is excellent and they do a great job checking in often but not being overbearing. The ambiance of the restaurant is ivery upbeat and exciting but chill and relaxed at the same time. This is what Michelin star dining should be.

A little over five years ago, The Catbird Seat was my very first experience with progressive dining. It was. An amazing experience from beginning to end and it set the bar for what I expect from a restaurant. Many years and Michelin-starred eateries later, they are still my number 1. So, when the opportunity came to visit again, I jumped at it!!! Still amazing and still worth a visit!

A full service, prix fixe at the bar dining experience nearly worthy of Michelin mention. Every course was innovative, full of flavors and textures. There is a full bar and extensive wine list. The only negative was a positive; keeping the food prep area clean is essential, but spraying the counter near open ingredient containers leads to contamination.

We had a lovely first visit at The Catbird Seat! I expected the atmosphere to be a little stuffier considering the vibe of their shared space with Patterson House, but I was pleasantly surprised by the warm and not-too-buttoned-up space right off the bat. Great music too! We loved watching the chefs carefully working around each other, and it was such a treat to chat with Andy Doubrava, whose passion for a beautiful plate really shines through in his food. Some of our food highlights: the "omelette," smoked oyster, and stuffed chicken wing, although so many of these dishes were fun and thought-provoking, and somehow so comforting. And I'll tell you one thing for sure - we did not leave hungry. A few things that kept me at a 4 star: food-wise, we were disappointed with the surf and turf dish - I had a good amount of lobster shell in mine, and I was surprised by the use of coulotte. It was tough. The sauce was absolutely stunning, though! I believe this was the first time they served this dish, so it seems like that's a risk that comes with the concept of their menu. Otherwise, we were surprised by the lack of parking accommodations for the price point of the meal. All parking is paid - the garage across the street is exorbitant - on a Wednesday, we paid $31.50 for two hours, and the valet is $18. We would have opted to valet, but we found a post of theirs from a couple months back mentioning that the garage was validated. What disappointed me most is that apart from calling the restaurant, up-to-date information is nowhere to be found. On the service side of things, everyone was so nice, but I felt that a couple areas were lacking (but not terrible by any means whatsoever) - we arrived 5 minutes before our reservation, and it took us about 15 minutes to be seated. We also were never asked if we wanted a second round of drinks. Not sure if this area suffers a bit because of the amount of table resettings, but just felt like a shortcoming. All things considered, this was such a fun experience and a wonderful meal. Definitely would recommend drinks at Patterson House beforehand as well

Unfortunately this has ruined all other restaurants for me. I've had a favorite tasting menu that hasn't been beat in years... until I traveled to Nashville and came here. Initially I checked in at Patterson House waiting until my seating is open. Service is nice all throughout from waiting until the end. Coat check keeps your belongings safe too. As it is with this place, it seems that the chefs and selection rotate every so often so there's not much of a point to explain every bit of a menu that you should be going in blind. I was able to come here for Valentine's Day for a special time and was happy with the offerings. All of the drinks were well crafted and I enjoyed the ones with the fat washes especially. For the food, they were good but the one that really blew my mind was the one with the black trumpets. It was a semi-sweet pastry-like half moon topped with the mushrooms. It was so good and unique to every tasting menu I've had... it was that moment that I decided that this was my favorite restaurant (sorry to the city I reside in, but this is the one place that beat it out). I was worried from some reviews that picked other places over this one in Nashville... but after going to other tasting menus, I respectfully disagree. I think the one thing that they could improve on is telling the story of each dish, but it's clear that a lot of thought was put into every one of them whether that was the ingredient, how they prepared it, where they sourced it, or the order to eat them in. I just wish I knew more. Absolutely would come back and bring more people.

Never in my life have I felt so full. We did a full drink pairing with our meal and my goodness was everything tasty. Out of the 12 courses we had I'd say 4 were an S tier 7 A tier and 1 C tier. #tier list.... The vibes immaculate the service incredible and so much food given the small plates. Now to pricing where do I begin. Including the full drink pairing it do be a pretty penny. With that in mind I would say worth it for the experience you get at a Michelin star restaurant. Will I be going back... Yes... Soon... No... Why... because this is obviously a place you don't frequent unless you got it like that. If you got money to spend I'd say get a reservation.... Goodluck they book up quite fast.

June 2025, Catbird Seat 6.0: For those unfamiliar, the Catbird Seat has been Nashville's flagship fine dining option since its opening in 2011. Head chef(s) bring their own unique concept to the brand and rotate every 2-3 years. Former chefs Josh Habiger (Bastion), Trevor Moran (Locust), and Ryan Poli (Iggy's) are now Nashville legends in their own rights for their current establishments and so it's such a delight when Catbird has new set of chefs, as it hopefully means the start of a legacy. Tiffani Ortiz and Andy Doubrava started at Catbird in fall 2024. Around the same time, the lease at the space the Catbird Seat and their sister cocktail bar, the Patterson House, ran out and the owners decided that after 16 years, it was finally time to move out of the old house on Music Row and into a larger, more modern space. I think like me, a lot of people have been waiting to try them once the new space was ready, which happened in mid-May. But what a meal. This was easily my favorite Catbird Seat iteration to date - nuanced, amazing, punchy flavors, great technique throughout, only one dish I wasn't too wild about (the Carolina Gold rice dish had too many strong flavors going on for me). I came solo, but made new BFFs with the awesome retiree couple sitting next to me, who have been to every chef set here and a fair amount of fine dining around the US. They agreed and thought this was the best version of food for the menu yet. Tiffani and Andy were known for a concept they did last year called "Slow Burn," that they took around the country before taking the helm at Catbird, but Tiffani says their menu here is only 1/12th Slow Burn these days, and they are tweaking things every day. It's highly seasonal, focused in local ingredients (lot of peaches, tomato, catfish, Carolina gold rice right now) and with a high degree of attention to sustainability (no element goes to waste, was really reminiscent of Alouette in CPH in this regard.) I wouldn't call this a "southern" menu, but it does lean that way. My standout bites were the chicken wing, deboned and stuffed with a corn nduja, sweet/savory dipping sauce, and a tomato/corn gelee tartlet (which I didn't get a pic of, the tartlet in my pics is the foie gras tartlet, which they took away and replaced after my pic.) The peach pit soufflé with oat streusel ice cream and peach granita was also really standout to me - just exceptional flavor with really amazing mouthfeel for hot/cold elements. This whole menu is a slam dunk. 12 courses, $165 plus tax and 20% service fee. I eat at fine dining around the world regularly and this is actually a good price for what it is. I did the full beverage pairing ($140) but the NA pairing my retiree BFFs did ($85) looked really good and I kind of want to come back just to try that. I thought there were a few bumps in the road service-wise (did the wine pairing but didn't get my first glass until after my first bite but was easily rectified by giving me a bit extra of that wine later, they accidentally almost gave me something I couldn't eat because dietary restrictions buy Chef Andy was laser-eyed and noticed, took it away before I had taken a bite, and replaced within 60 seconds with what should have been served to me.) But I also wonder if part of those bumps was getting used to the new space - it's a slightly larger space than the old, with a 6-seat wine lounge before the restaurant and three additional seats in the actual restaurant and it was completely full on a Friday night. It felt a bit hectic to keep up with all the simultaneous meals with what is ultimately a pretty small staff (and honestly it got progressively hotter in the space throughout the night - they need to sort their AC situation, too.) For anyone wondering about the space itself - it's nice. The old house on Division street had always been too small and was kind of falling apart at the end days. Both the Patterson House and the Catbird Seat largely retained the same look & design (Patterson even took their mirrored, designed ceiling), but everything is a touch bigger and just more comfortable for guests. Catbird now also has a Wine Lounge before the restaurant - wish they told me that in one of their 10 pre-arrival texts, as I might have opted for a drink there instead of Patterson before the meal. Regardless, I think it's one of three serious contenders from Nashville for a Michelin when they release their South guide, and honestly is the strongest of the three by a lot. (And consider it stronger than some of the one-stars I've been to in Austin and Atlanta.) A wonderful meal when you want to treat yourself, laid back vibe with warm hospitality and just really inventive, flavorful food from Andy and Tiffani. Will easily come here again and again.

This was the most unique dinning experience I've ever had. The Catbird Seat is nothing less than exceptional. From the experience when you first walk in to when you finish your last course, any customer can walk away feeling satisfied and eager to come back. In each course you can taste the dedication and knowledge from these chefs. It truly is an experience and you must be willing to say yes to each dish. Every ingredient is farm to table from local to other regions. Before each course, the chefs will explain what you are about to digest. This is a very intimate dinning experience with less than 20 customers dinning at a time. You are watching each dish be prepared in front of you. I believe The Catbird Seat is worth every dollar. Each person is knowledgeable about the restaurant, food, and alcohol. I would recommend anyone to go here and experience what The Catbird Seat has to offer!

Very underwhelming, 2nd time here, first was 10 years ago. Was excited to come back, but a big disappointment! Definitely not deserving of a Michelin star. There was no depth or complexity to the food; very boring and nothing memorable. Unfortunately the only memorable thing was how salty the food was. Good service, staff was nice. They took an empty glass of wine from me half way through the meal and didn't ask if I wanted another. Cool ambiance and atmosphere, that was enjoyable. Wouldn't recommend for the price tag; try something else.

    Rob C.

This is likely the best restaurant in Nashville and it does try its best. Was good but not comparable to restaurants in bigger cities. Apparently it's an incubator of chefs for the city and I can see that as this restaurant does have the atmosphere of reaching for the top tier. It probably has achieved that in Nashville. That being said there was nothing really spectacular. Dishes were generally ok to good. When they present food they will present to each individual group. However they sometimes present at the same time and end up talking over each other. They should work on spacing out the timing as it's hard to hear the presentation. Wine pairing was mediocre. Nothing stood out.

Ask the Community - The Catbird Seat

    What is the corkage policy?

I am allergic to shellfish. Would I still be able to experience this restaurant to the fullest ? Do the offer substitutes.

What is the final cost of a night here, with drink options? Information online seems to be contradictory. Thanks!

With four people we dropped about $700. We brought our own wine though and just paid the fee. I think we brought about 3 bottles maybe.

What's the proper attire for Catbird Seat?

t-shirt and jeans is fine. But if you wear a suit, you would not be out of place. The chefs all were black t-shirts. and the music accompanying your meal will be a mix of hip hop, so need need to overthink it or overdress.

Are there parking for the restaurant customers?

No. No valet either that I saw. You have to park and walk or Uber / Lyft.

Do they offer a vegetarian tasting menu as well?

Look at their website, it specifically says to contact them for dietary restrictions.

Does Catbird Seat have a dress code?

There is no set dress code...

    What's the pricing per person?

    Around 150 per person

From my bar stool, I can see the bar is well stocked with bourbons and whiskeys. I started with the Etch Smoked Old Fashioned: Belle Meade bourbon, smoked simple syrup, orange and a dash of bitters started off my night. The bar is busy with people, all seats are taken. The couple sitting next to me are going to see Bruno Mars, it seems like a nice night to start with a fabulous dinner. I came early to have a drink before my reservation. I feel a tap on my shoulder and there are two women asking for the happy hour drink menu. I offer my seat and they're thanking me and asking to pay for my drink? Everyone is very hospitable in Nashville! I tell the hostess I'm ready to sit and I'm seated at the large chefs counter. It's very smart to have this type of seating, it saves the tables for larger parties, there's no reason for lil ol me to take up a table with four seats. My waitress comes over and I studied the menu before I arrived. I'm starting with the Smoked Carpaccio (think of roast beef strips) Made with New York Strip steak and topped with pickled onion & herb relish, fried garlic chips, lemon almond salt and parmesan. This was an award winning starter dish. The steak strips were very flavorful and the crostini points, I ate this dish like little open faced sandwiches. This would be a great dish to share with a larger party. For my main entree, I ordered the Grilled Filet. The meat was cooked perfectly! On the side the dish was served with parmesan lemon whipped potatoes, and topped with a smoked bone marrow butter as well as asparagus spears. The smoked bone marrow was like pocket aces, a nice touch that elevated the dish. While in Nashville, I highly recommend making a reservation at etch.

God sent three Angels. Saturday evening, after an exciting evening watching one of Nashville's…read moregreat concerts, we started our rainy drive home. It was raining and traffic was heavy and I intended to take a "shortcut" around the traffic. Somehow, I clipped the curb on my turn and my rear tire blew! I limped around the corner and stopped right in front of Harper's restaurant. We sat in the car for a few minutes, trying to come up with a plan when three men came to my car. It was Samuel, Isaac, and Mina, the valet attendants for Harper's. I'll make this short by telling you that they not only jumped in and changed my tire in the rain, but even used some tools from their own cars. When finished, they would not accept any money for helping me. I commend Harper's for employing such fine men to work at the restaurant. I can't say enough about the kindness these three gentlemen displayed. We will be back soon to Harper's to not only enjoy eating at this fine restaurant, but also to say hello to our Angels, Samuel, Isaac and Mina.

The small signage made it a little difficult to find inside the Marriott (see pictures), but from the moment we walked in, heard the live piano player and saw the dining area - we knew this would be a great experience. We started off by sharing orders of Lobster Bisque (see picture) and Burrata with Toast (see pictures). We really enjoyed both of them - the Lobster Bisque was so creamy and smooth and the Burrata was cool, fresh and clean. They were a great combination to start our dinner experience and I would recommend both of them. Since it was a Friday during lent, my wife opted for the BBQ Shrimp Pasta (see picture) and I went with the Daily Fish Special on Blue Corn Grits (see picture). As we always do when we go out, we shared our plates and really enjoyed both of them. The BBQ Shrimp Pasta was rich, buttery and smooth and the Fish Special was a tasty white, flaky and blackened fish served on a bed of rich, creamy blue corn grits. Here again, both are highly recommended. While it is one of your more expensive area stops for dinner, you will appreciate the food quality and presentation at Gannons Nashville for your next special occasion.
