This visit was a surprisingly disappointing departure from the consistently excellent experiences we've had at Butcher & Bee over the years. We chose the restaurant to celebrate my daughter's birthday and, as we have done on previous visits, ordered the Chef's Special for our party of three. While we were surprised to see the price had increased by $15 per person since our last visit, we expected the same high-quality dining experience that has always made the restaurant a favorite. Unfortunately, the service and pacing fell well short of those expectations. Dinner lasted more than two hours from start to finish, with excessive waits between nearly every course. What should have been an enjoyable celebratory meal became increasingly frustrating as the evening progressed. Our server appeared attentive and engaged with surrounding tables throughout the night, yet we frequently felt overlooked. There were extended periods where we were unable to get refills or assistance, leaving us feeling forgotten and, quite literally, thirsty. By the end of the evening, we had to request that the "sweet treat" be packaged to go, and the response from our server came across as irritated rather than accommodating. This was our first time being seated on the outdoor patio, but regardless of seating location, the level of service should be consistent throughout the restaurant. In the end, we spent well over $300 and left feeling frustrated, exhausted, and disappointed rather than celebrated. For a restaurant that has built a reputation on exceptional food, hospitality, and attention to detail, this experience missed the mark. Significant price increases are easier to accept when they are accompanied by an equally elevated dining experience. Unfortunately, that was not the case on this visit, and it has left us questioning whether we will return in the future. read more

I love this restaurant. I went to Aba, and every interaction I had and every bite I took I wished I was at Butcher and Bee. The price per bite is phenomenal, and not to mention the ambiance is astounding (shoutout to their renovation). My only qualm with this restaurant is that it ruined the price per bite at every other restaurant in Nashville-- there is truly nowhere else you can get such an amazing experience for a reasonable price. I was having a beer with a friend at Smith & Lentz and he recommended I finally try Butcher & Bee. Did not get reservations, so sat at the bar (a trick if you are going on a weekend night?). We just grabbed a few small plates and dessert, so this will not be a full review, but there is an excellent chef's menu at the cheapest chef's menu in the city. Atmosphere is great. Very elegant feeling, but not stuffy. Bar has comfortable seating. The cocktails are excellent and the presentation is excellent. I won't say a cocktail standout in Nashville, but a worthwhile menu to try out. The food is top notch. I was not as thrilled about the crispy rice as my friend, but the hummus and whipped feta are worth the trip. For dessert, we tried both the Peach Almond Malabi and the Ruby Pistachio mousse. I preferred the mousse, whild she was thrilled about the almabi. I don't think you can go wrong with either. I would love to return to try their brunch, as I hear it is excellent. Came here with a friend on a Saturday evening with a reservation. We were seated immediately in a cozy corner table for 2. The host was super friendly and our waiter was also kind and attentive. We shared the whipped feta, warm squash dip, Brussels sprouts, beets, falafel and avocado crispy rice. The interior is absolutely stunning, it's dark but beautiful. We sat in the outdoor patio which was also beautiful and felt like a magical back garden. Our servers were so kind and friendly, they walked us through the menu, asked about allergies (we had 1 dairy free and 1 vegetarian) and then suggested dishes based on that. I've been here a couple of times now so I wanted to wait to give a review. The first time I went, I wasn't a huge fan of my dish, and that was my fault for not understanding the menu. However!! My most recent trip, everything was delicious. First, please do yourself a favor and add the spicy lamb sausage to your whipped feta. It's so so good. Also the cocktails are so good. I love trying new drinks when out and about, and these didn't disappoint. I suggest parking in the lot across the street from the front door. I have been to butcher and bee twice now since my last visit. We ended up doing the chefs selection which was a really nice way to put your trust in someone else to course out your meal. If its your first time at Butcher and Bee I would recommend doing this to figure out what style of food you like. As always, I love the support they show their employees and I enjoy knowing where my food is coming from especially since it is locally sourced. I know their menu changes seasonally (which is great because then we have more food to try), so I wont go too into detail but our mains were great! Service was on par. If I could give 10 stars, I would. Not only was the place beautiful, the host was so warm and welcoming, and the food was perfection. We did the chef menu and every dish looked colorful and flavors and texture combining and exploding in your mouth. This is one of the best tasting food nationally IMHO (travel a lot for work). Then, you usually have to pick food, service, OR ambiance - but this place has not sacrificed a single thing and has all 3. People are kind and warm, not pretentious, sincere and thoughtful. I ate so many veggies during this meal and enjoyed all of them! We had the chef's course and had a great time trying dishes I probably would not have normally ordered (or at least not all of them)! Great value if you are coming with a group and can't decide what to get. I was not able to take pictures of everything as the dishes just kept coming and I lost track of everything that was brought out, but in general, the dishes were veggie-forward but not exclusively (we had some fried chicken that was very good). The menu is seasonal, so made differ when you visit, but my favorites were the squash and brussels sprouts. They were very accommodating of a gluten intolerance at our table and the staff thoroughly explained the components of every dish and reiterated throughout the dinner what was gluten-free and what wasn't. They provided substitutions when necessary. We additionally ordered the famous whipped feta. I am not even a cheese fan, but thought it was incredible. First, let me say that I've been here for both brunch and dinner and they are both stellar. I'll focus on dinner for this review because that is the fare I typically prefer. We came here to celebrate closing on our house with a couple friends and decided on the Chef's Choice for the table, letting them know we had two vegetarians eating with us. The food they brought out was amazing. Every single dip on the menu, and almost all of the small plates. It was an absolute FEAST. Literally so much food. And all of it was so good. The cavatelli pasta was absolutely delicious with crab inside, the hummus plate was SO tasty, and their ice cream dessert was a unique treat! My colleague ordered a steak and said it was also really good! The ambience outside (and honestly, the inside too) was so cute at night! I love to dine at restaurants that have won a James Beard Chef award, as well as those that have been finalists and semi-finalists. It's a great way to find the best restaurants in major cities. A few years ago, I dined at the original Butcher & Bee in Charleston. We had an amazing dining experience and were excited for them to be a finalist in 2022 James Beard Best Chef in the Southeast competition (which they did not win). As I was in Nashville for the weekend, I wanted to check out the Nashville restaurant to see how its Mediterranean cuisine stacked up to my memories from Charleston. I like to sit at the chef's table, to get a ring-side seat on what goes on in a major restaurant's kitchen. I'm amazed how cooks keep their focus and pace with oak wood grilling on an open fire. It's also hot for the patrons sitting at the chef's table. As a result, I drank a ton of water during our meal. In reading the reviews on Yelp, the Whipped Feta is a crowd pleasurer and sure starter selection. And it checked all the boxes for us. From the Small Plate section, we ordered the Embered Peas, which featured charred English and sugar snap peas. It was incredibly unique and flavorful. Our server told us the Avocado Crispy Rice was a house specialty in the Larger Plates. It's a great combination of textures and flavors, with the avocado adding richness and coolness. We added some Shawarma Chicken for protein and some kick. Several reviewers had praised the carrots. I'm uncertain whether that's the current version, or maybe something different in the past. I've had some amazing carrots at chef-driven restaurants. Butcher & Bee serves al dente carrots, which means they are cooked until they are still slightly firm, but not mushy. I'll say for our tastes, the carrots were too firm and not enjoyable. For dessert, we ordered the Raspberry Pavlova with earl grey ice cream and brownie bites. It was a yummy way to cool our palates after eating some spicy food. One thing I missed on the menu is right at the top - Order Like a Pro. For $56 at dinner, you get a sampling of the best items on the menu. That might have been a better option than what we selected ala carte. read more

I've been to Butcher & Bee for both brunch and dinner - and there are plenty of good things to be said about this Middle Eastern eatery in East Nashville. We also love this restaurateur's other venture (RHS you have my heart) - and love to support whenever we can! Most recently, I visited for a weeknight dinner with a friend. I went ahead and made a reservation as this spot is usually pretty busy - and indeed it was. Even still, our server was great! She made some thoughtful recommendations and was mindful of dietary restrictions in our group without being over the top. We started out our meal by sharing some of their traditional hummus - which is served with some of the lightest, fluffiest pitas I've ever eaten. This was a perfect portion to split between two people. I also sipped on one of their Seasonal Gazoz Spritzes - which was light, bubbly, and fruity. For our entrees, we each ordered the Avocado Crispy Rice, and I added some chicken to mine. This was one of the most unique and tasty dishes I've had in a long time! This may just be my new favorite restaurant in Nashville. The ambience is great, the food is even better, and it's affordable, I would HIGHLY recommend getting the Chefs Choice menu, it is $56 and you get ridiculously good value for it. You get to try so many things and they just decorate your table for you. If you're not picky, try it. Our waitress was also super attentive and sweet, telling us all her favorites. Here's what we tried: -Whipped Feta: 100000000/10 - Literally one of my favorite bites of the whole year so far. The feta is creamy and sour, and it comes with oil and honey that add a sweet and rich touch. I could've eaten it nonstop, and the pita bread it came with was warm, fluffy, and a perfect way of mopping up that beautiful spread. I would come back just for this. -Lamb Hummus: 8.5/10 - The flavor of this hummus was great and the lamb was so moist and perfectly spiced. I also liked that we got both pita and vegetables to dip into it. My only note is I wish the texture was slightly thicker. -Pepper with various sauces: 5/10 - I loved the presentation of this, but one of the sauces was ridiculously spicy to the point where we couldn't eat it. Maybe we ate it wrong. The other sauces were good, but I just wasn't really sure what it was supposed to be. -Cucumber Tomato Salad: 6/10 - I usually love these and although it was fresh, I felt that most of the salad was made of the hard part of the cucumbers rather than the juicy part. Very refreshing, though. -Caprese Toast: 8.5/10 - The toast was thick, the cheese was SOOO savory and had the perfect texture, and the tomatoes on top were thick and juicy. This sweet oil on top brought the whole thing together into such a simple yet effective bite. -Pistachio Feta Pasta: 7/10 - The pasta shape was great and had a good chew but the feta got overpowered by the pistachios. I felt it tasted too much of pistachios, but hey, if you like pistachios, you'll love it. -Tomato and Melon Salad: 8/10 - The melon almost burst in my mouth with sweet juiciness, and it was topped with some cheese which added a salty contrast that I enjoyed. -Avocado Crispy Rice: 9/10 - Texturally, this dish was genius. The creamy avocado with crispy rice created a perfect contrast. It is rich though, so a few bites is enough to feel ready to move onto something else. -Steak and potatoes: 100/10 - The best potatoes I have EVER had. They were crispy, almost like potato chips, yet still soft on the inside. And they were swimming in this wonderful sauce, not to mention the steak they came alongside, which was perfectly cooked and had flaky salt on top. -Elderflower custard: 10/10 - I have NEVER been a custard person, but this was like, the perfect texture. It wasn't too soft and jello-ey, which I don't like, and it was the perfect level of sweetness. I can't even explain the taste. Just so good! This was a near perfect dining experience. The servers were super helpful and knowledgeable about the dishes they served and each and every bite was uniquely bursting with flavor. On top of that the ambiance was great for catching up with friends or an intimate night out. The only negative were small annoyances at the end of the meal. Food: God the food was phenomenal. Had a really fun dinner at Butcher & Bee and shout out to Claire who is one of the best servers I've experienced in a long time - thank you for taking care of us! Some real winners on the food front and some misses, hence the 4 star rating instead of 5. Drinks - i'm not a big drinker but my table mates ordered a variety of drinks (old fashioned, ferment to bee) which they enjoyed but the drink of the night was definitely the OLD MILL SCREAM with clarified charred tomato water, Junipero Gin, Basil, Balsamic Vinegar, Black Pepper which was amazing even for a non-drinker like me. I enjoyed my Abito Root Beer which was on tap, fun! Small plates - dips - we got both the whipped feta and hummus that came with pita and also ordered the "spice it up" - 5*/5, so delicious! - Japanese latke - 3/5, it was described to us as a potato latke meets an okinomiyaki pancake and it was not really that. not bad, but not what we were expecting - shrimp skewers - 5/5, these were perfectly grilled and excellent! Larger plates - Tahini caesar - 3/5, cabbage based and a little too salty for our tastes - avocado crispy rice - 3/5, this was also a little confusing - we were expecting more rice and less a grain salad type of experience - special scallops - 5/5, three perfectly prepared large scallops - special chicken - 5/5, this was amazing, whole chicken pieces marinated in a smoked tomato bbq sauce, finger licking good (even though we were using forks and knives to eat this) dessert - raspberry pavlova - 4/5, I'm not a huge meringue fan and don't like earl grey so the dessert was not for me (except for the brownie part) but the others really liked the earl grey ice cream. I'd definitely go back to Butcher & Bee again if just to have that Old Mill Scream drink, the dips, shrimp skewers, and if they have the special scallops and special chicken, yum! read more

We were able to pop in on a late Saturday with a group of 5 with reservations made about two hours out. Immediately, I loved the atmosphere. The plants, lighting, colors. It was intimate and perfect. They had great booth available for our group that made the experience great. When I say this is some of the best food I've ever had I'm not exaggerating. I've heard of this restaurant when I was in Charleston. I regretted trying it in South Carolina years ago was thrilled to see one in Nashville. This is a small plates restaurant so make sure you get outside the box, but I can tell you there was nothing that I didn't love. We loved the whipped feta so much we ordered a second serving. My second favorite was the beef tartar, I wish I remembered the actual name of the dish. Service was great and the back patio was adorable. Even if you just come to sit at the bar, you will not be disappointed. Highly recommend for a date night. It's right next to many popular East Nash bars to make for a place to start or end the night. Everything was divine and worth every penny. It's also very filling, though the portions are on the smaller side. I tried the mead here, but wasn't the biggest fan. Thankfully, it was just a sample, so I decided to go for a nice beer instead. The interior is so cute and trendy. My husband's favorite spot in Nashville -- we eat out a LOT, so the fact that this is one place he always wants to come back to is a high compliment! We've been both for brunch and dinner. I'd personally lean toward brunch, if you're trying to choose. I love that there are both sweet and savory options, and that they can accommodate lots of dietary restrictions. We've brought several folks from out of town, and they've always found something they love -- regardless of diet and how "adventurous" (or not) they are. Service is always friendly and feels like "real" Nashville, and the ambience is warm and cozy. Love the back patio when weather is nice! read more

This was great! We came in with a group of friends and enjoyed the atmosphere and food. Personally I enjoyed the apps way more than the entrees but we also only tried the vegetarian dishes so I can't speak for any meat options. Would come back! read more

Butcher & Bee has been on my Nashville restaurant bucket list for years. After perusing the menu, I ordered the Egg and Veggie Scramble, which came with a delicious mix of eggs, mushrooms, onions and more -- served with an amazing side of grits (some of the best I've had in Nashville). The flavors of the egg and veggies played well together, and the veggies were cooked perfectly. The grits were creamy and hearty. I could have eaten an entire (large) bowl myself without issue. I will say, the portion was very small, especially for the price. From looking at other entrees pass by our table, this isn't a place you bring a huge appetite. But it was worth the adventure my tastebuds went on. The service was great and I really liked the interior decor and ambiance. I'll likely be back to explore more of the menu. read more

So much fun! My husband and i ate here during an anniversary trip to Nashville. The servers were great! I was reluctant to take bar seats, but the experience was comfortable and very memorable.
