Perfect for what it is. A comforting restaurant with the charm that you often only find scattered on road trips through the south. The essence of old Florida is alive and well at this restaurant. The menu hosts honest prices, plate of the day items, and lunch specials. Seafood is always a great option here and my favorites are the broiled snapper and fried catfish. They are $ 8-9 for lunch and come with 2 sides and hush puppies. On my recent trip I got the snapper with zipper peas and a sweet potato. The broiled snapped is firm, but the fish is always fresh and lightly seasoned. Some lemon helps bring the flavors out. The zipper peas were fantastic. Perfectly seasoned and cooked with small chunks of pork, they reminded me of black eyed peas. The sweet potato was a nice healthy accompaniment. I also recommend there homemade hash browns. The portion is always large. The fried catfish is cornmeal crusted and always light and crispy. Truly well prepared in the southern style. The walls are adorned with Florida relics. Wow this certainly was worth a drive from Melbourne Florida. If you ever get a chance, you will want to try this restaurant. My wife and I both had shrimp and catfish lunch and the food was prepared perfectly. We also had their fried green tomatoes and clam chowder. After a long day at Gatorland, my family and I decided to try out The Catfish Place because it came highly recommended. What immediately caught my family's eye was the variety of meats they had (many that we can't get in Hawaii): Gator, turtle, frog legs, etc. My family are the type to try anything at least once, so we gave it a try. The food was good! Besides all the other proteins, my family also got a bunch of the all you can eat catfish. The catfish was perfectly fried and the center was still moist. The only reason that I took off a star for this restaurant was because of one of the waitresses we had, Lisa. We did have a big party so maybe that overwhelmed her, but we were nice enough to write all our orders down to make it easier for her and she ripped it out of my hand. Her attitude was terrible, but she may have just had a hard day. Luckily for us, another waitress stepped in to help instead, Margaret. She was so helpful and friendly! She even showed us pictures of gators that she caught! Really awesome. By the end of the night, Margaret changed my view of the restaurant to a positive and the food was delicious! read more

The Catfish Place has been on my wishlist for almost nine years! True story! When I moved from Texas to Minnesota nine years ago, I was trying to find a restaurant that served catfish. Seems in north central Minnesota, it is walleye or something previously frozen. And then I found The Catfish Place in Saint Cloud! I thought, great! Only about an hour south of me! Then I started reading the menu... Gator from local lakes, what?! And then I realized this is in Saint Cloud FLORIDA, not Minnesota. Oh bummer! So, I filed it away for another day. Fast forward to today, and I finally made it here while on vacation! I wish it did not take me nine years to get here, but still worth the wait! Table for one and I got seated right away on a Saturday by a window. Sorry I did not write down her name, but my server came over right away and said she was new (her second day). She sure knew her stuff though about the menu! I ordered sweet tea to start (perfectly sweet for me, and I like my tea sweet), and it came out with a pitcher. Excellent! I then ordered the seafood gumbo, though it was a coin toss with the clam chowder, but I opted for something I cannot usually get at home. My gumbo came right out nice, hot, and delicious! I then placed my order of the three meat platter of catfish, turtle, and (of course), gator! Another winner here! When my plate came out, I thought (uh oh), how am I going to finish all of this food!? Along with double coleslaw (also very good!) and hush puppies. I somehow managed to finish everything, except for 2 of 3 hush puppies! Of course, all three things were fried, but there was no excess oil to be found! Perfectly crispy and hot! If it was not that I had another three hours of driving, I would have taken key lime pie to go. I am sure that is delicious too! Great service! Great food! We stayed in Kissimmee and drove to actually go to another restaurant that ended up being closed. So glad it was!!! This is locally owned and it was AMAZING!!! Great great service and fabulous food! We had crab legs that were perfect. Cole slaw was outa this world. We also had fried green tomatoes as an appetizer that were yummy. This is well worth the drive to St. Cloud. I'm a huge Sweet tea fanatic and when they saw how much my husband and I liked it, they left us a small pitcher. the salads were cold and fresh, but lets be honest... you are there for the fried food! I got, calamari, shrimp and gator, a pick three combo. I didn't finish it all and so took it home and surprisingly it was still good the next day. The service was great, very attentive and kind, answered all my questions as it was my first time there and the place was clean and well managed. Cost was worth the portion. I have been wanting to try this place for years and have had it on my list of restaurants since before moving to Florida. After spending the day at Gatorland, we finally made it and let me tell you; it was worth the wait. Our waiter who's name I believe was Joe, was incredible. Upon hearing that I had never tried catfish he went back into the kitchen and had them fry up a sample. First of all, that has never happened to me before and second, it was to die for! This is definitely a local's joint, but they make you feel incredibly welcomed. The food here is bar none. I have no qualms about driving the hour and 45 minutes to visit this restaurant again. I'm surprised by the raving reviews. I went here for lunch with my family. The lunch menu doesn't have the culinary adventures of the dinner entrees, its basic fried southern seafood. It took a really long time for our food to come. Everyone said the scallops were the worst they've ever had. Overall, the food was okay or bad. The catfish wasn't too flavorful. The only real treat from here is the hush puppies, they're near perfect. Bottom line: this place is a small step above Long John Silver's and offers sub-par decor and service. read more

I drive pass by this restaurant all the time and with high rating from Yelp I decided to give it a try with bunch of friends for lunch. I guess American seafood is primarily fried but they must have done the frying for a long time because the fresh catfish lunch I had was really good. The batter, or lack thereof, just enough to coat the fish without flaking it off, almost looks like it's part of the filet and it's so good (check picture). Just about everything else we had were fried except salad (surprised it came with it for lunch). The lady was extra nice although she looked serious gave us extra drink in pitchers and extra sides. You can buy some restaurant souvenirs after you eat and play musical chair (just chairs for people to sit and wait arranged in musical chair format). I'll definitely come back and try out other more expansive dishes, perhaps non-fried. I saw menu on the wall near the register showing raw seafood available as well but I was not sure of it: raw catfish! They have deep frying down to a science or maybe they have elevated it to an art? I'm not sure which. My family has visited this restaurant 4 or 5 times and never had anything we didn't like. The fried entree's are lightly breaded and perfectly cooked. We've never had a dish that was soggy or smelled of burnt / old oil. The interior is dated but it adds to the charm of this old florida restaurant. I have always felt if your going to name your restaurant after a dish or ingredient you had better get it right. Well I'm happy to report the cat fish place knocks it out of the park. Resist the urge to get the all you can eat catfish. I found the catfish dinner to be too much food. Okay I missed out on the 7% cash back Yelp deal do to my unwillingness to store credit card info all around the web. It could have added up on our $45 total bill. Well I had - you got it... Fried Catfish Fingerlings (again). What is not to like? Very mild fish and their tarter sauce is just to my liking. Plenty on the plate in front of me too. The hush puppies. are on the sweet side for me but still worthy of processing in my personal internal conversion system along with those awesome Black Eyed Peas. OMG, now these guys stole the meal for me. Perhaps it's because I really dig some down-home, southern cookin' recipes? Believe me, I tried to reverse engineer the flavors on my palate to try and create at home but it just wasn't happening. I put minced onion, bacon fat, along with a little Goya ham flavoring in mine and well, I was impressed. The fried okra will take you back to the 60's home cooking dinner. Freaking as good as they get too. Something about the fryer that adds this taste which rang the nostalgia bell for me. I've only had mediocre gator and frog legs before. And here, it was a game changer. The atmosphere has one of those Southern homely place. The servers were really nice and they gave us some green tomatoes on the house. It was amazing as well. Their tartar sauce with the deep fried frog legs were out of the world. It was just amazing and perfect. I really want to go back and try more of their frog legs. The deep fried alligator was amazing.
