The Chasseur has its highlights and problems, but, overall, it isn't really exemplary. The Chasseur is a rather small restaurant and bar, with an apparent emphasis on the latter. The location is pretty nice (and the interior is quite nice and clean), but the restaurant itself is unfortunately loud due to an adjoining bar. The design is vaguely nautical-themed, but really isn't super memorable. Parking is vaguely convenient, and service is excellent. The food varies wildly. The duck fat tater tots are quite good - they are crispy, adequately sized, plentiful, and the paired avocado-ranch dressing was quite nice. The mussels were well made, but not exactly unique in any particular way. The entrees, on the other hand, were a bit more boring. The grilled salmon was perfectly cooked and nicely seasoned, but the paired Israeli couscous was so overwhelmingly seasoned that I couldn't come even remotely close to finishing it. The tuna tartare tacos were also quite good, though they perhaps needed a bit more going on to be truly memorable. If this place could somehow make the dining room a lot quieter (close the door between the bar and the dining room?) and perhaps tried a bit more adventurous dishes, I'd have been a lot more impressed. read more

Overall: A great place to dinner. Definitely make reservations and plan to circle for a while looking for parking. We had a blast on our kid-less double date night with our best friends. We had 7pm reservations and the GPS took us through the city. That was super fun. Pulled up right at 7 and my sister and I hopped out to get our table while the guys circled (for 20 minutes) to find parking. It didn't helped that we'd gotten 6 inches of snow 3 days before. The bar was packed. Clearly a popular place. The dining room was small and also packed. The first the waitress said was how gorgeous my sister and I looked. So, she got a nice tip. :) We started with cocktails, or attempted to. We ordered the Starry Night with white wine. Evidently they were out of the chard they normally used and the waitress came back to ask if sav blan was okay. We thought she meant to sub but instead it was just straight wine. It was good though. The guys finally got parked and were very pleased with the beer menu on tap. Drinks and duck fat tots and Filipino eggs rolls were ordered. It took a while to get them but I think that's because the place was packed. When we finally got them? Delicious. Tots were crisp and so tasty. The egg rolls and sauce were awesome. Dinner orders: enchiladas, 2 orders of the steak and pan roasted rockfish. I got the enchiladas. Oh sweet fancy moses. Best enchiladas I've ever had. Seriously. My BIL completely cleared his plate of the rockfish. Like he would've licked it if he could. My sister and hubby got the steak. Both ordered medium but one was a little closer to medium well and another a little closer to medium rare. It worked. They said it was very good but the blue cheese is the blue cheese butter was way too heavy. And since it was smeared on the steak and on the potatoes, it was just too much. Dessert was actually a little disappointing. They make it all in house, so it's always changing, which is cool. On the menu was a nutella creme brulee, deconstructed carrot cake and chocolate lemon tart. We got all three. BIL said the creme brulee was good but it tasted like just chocolate not nutella-y. My hubby enjoyed the carrot cake. My sister and I split the tart. It was good but not spectacular. We were wanting something really indulgent since we were totally blowing our diets. I'd also gotten the Baltimore City Water cocktail which was so so yummy. We will go back. It's a great place. read more

We came here for brunch on a Saturday. We arrived at 10:30 and were promptly seated. When we arrived, we were the only people in the entire restaurant. We ordered spicy Bloody Marys; they were good and one of the highlights of the meal. For brunch, we ordered the eggs Benedict, veggie omelette, and the BLTE. We also ordered the duck fat tots to share. The food took approximately 45 minutes to be delivered to our table. The duck fat tots were good, but nothing special. They tasted like frozen tater tots; I did not detect the duck. My eggs benedict (and all eggs benedict at this particular place) was served on a very dense biscuit. My food was cold. On top of the temperature being off, the biscuit tasted stale, like they used yesterday's leftovers. The bacon was greasy, and the hollandaise was flavorless. The breakfast potatoes were okay, but underseasoned. My friend's omelette was also cold. I'm not sure how long the food was sitting back there and why it wasn't brought out hot, because as I said, the place was completely empty. Our waiter was very friendly and personable, but not particularly attentive. There are so many other great brunch choices in Baltimore. I'd skip this one. read more

Stopped in on a Friday for dinner with my boyfriend, we got in a little after 9 so pretty much the evening crowd had pretty much dispersed out, so it was just us and a few other patrons. We was pretty much hungry at this point, so we just got entrees and drinks. I tried the Grilled Salmon, served with Couscous, Toasted Peanuts, Cipollini Onions, Pickled Raisins, Curry, Chipotle Puree, which was really delicious, the salmon was cooked to perfection, and you got a really nice size portion for the price point which is a plus for me. My boyfriend kept it simple and grabbed a burger, the Mushroom Burger, served , Mushroom Ragout, Garlic Aioli, Blue Cheese Crumbles, Lettuce, Tomato, we were really bummed about the duck fat tater tots, to be really honest we did not taste a ounce of duck fat in them, they really tasted like basic tater tots, which was a real disappointment, because we really like duck fat anything. New favorite spot in Canton!! Food is amazing, servers are great (ask for Candace, she is THE BEST), and the views can't be beat! I typically get honey old bay wings wherever I go, but my new favorite is Chasseur's brown sugar old bay!!! It's like a dry rub that is spicy and sweet and wonderful all around. But my favorite thing to order here is the black and blue mac. The spiral cheesy noodles come with steak and are topped with balsamic and blue cheese crumbles. I am eating my leftovers as I type this and all I want to do is get 100 more orders of this cheesy wonderful goodness. And the crabby tots are my go-to appetizer. My wife and I have been a few times and have mixed feelings about this restaurant. I'll start with the good first: The atmosphere and especially the 3rd floor with views of the harbor are very nice. Great place to enjoy a craft beer or cocktail. The Food: We have tried a number of items on the menu and they are really hit and miss- The duck fat tots are a tasty take on traditional tots as a side, also the shrimp toast appetizer has a good flavor and is worth a try. Other items we have eaten however, just seem to be missing the mark ex. A spiced chicken sandwich was very gristly when my wife had it. Also, the fish, and chicken tacos that lacked flavor and bruschetta that was very odd on a whole wheat type of bread. Also the crushes (orange or grapefruit) do not seem to be made with real grapefruit or oranges like at most bars in the city serving them, it tastes more like they are made with some artificial sweetener. My advice: Come for the atmosphere (views), beer, and for certain appetizers/ entrees. Overall slightly above average dining experience so far. read more

Baltimore is full of unassuming corner bars with surprisingly amazing food. The Chasseur is no exception to this. Jen is legit one of the best bartenders I've ever had. In life. If it wasn't for her, I would have been way too sober and I would have never experienced the shinning light that is the winter fritter. She does not mess around. The food: Duck fat tots - No explanation needed. Other than to emphasize how good anything fried in duck fat is and also to highlight that avocado ranch. Winter Fritter - "Crack 2.0" as Jen puts it (I told you she was legit). The andoullie sausage and the basil aioli make this little treat magical. Serrano burger - Pork burger with peppers? Yesssss. Juicy and delicious and just the right amount of spicy. The drinks: Starry Night - Goes down way too easy. Your choice of red or white. Went here to try out the Saturday happy hour and experience the 3rd floor of the place. The ambiance was very nice, the window on the third floor are garage doors and can be opened up looking out to the harbor. We ordered the duck fat tots which are not your average tots they have a nice tasting to them. And the (not) spicy chicken sandwich to split. Very disappointed in the chicken sandwich we definitely expected a spicy sandwich and it was a breaded fried sandwich with a sweet maple glaze. Definitely should be renamed Sweet chicken sandwich. Overall a decent visit but will try other places in the future. read more

Just did a great renovation on the downstairs and outside area. They now have a hostess to control the crowd and making sure the tables run smoothly. The new owner is very friendly and has great customer service. The service was awesome and quick to respond. They repainted the outside of the building and it looks great. The upstairs bar has a great view of canton. Highly recommend and will be back here several times. Limited menu right now but the owner is adding more food options as the area opens back up. read more

This is a great neighborhood establishment and I'm happy to have them as neighbors. The staff goes above and beyond for special requests with birthdays or events. The food is delicious and they keep their menu fresh. The yearly events like the Derby Block Party and the opening day brunch and bus are awesome and it's a comfortable space. The third floor with garage doors is great though there is a bit of an eyesore presented by one neighbor's house. Look past it, have a drink, and enjoy the views of the water. read more

I had my birthday dinner here on Saturday Jan 31. and I couldn't have been more pleased with everything!! I had Jennifer set me up for what I thought was supposed to be only 16 people in my party that turned into about 22 people, and even though they were busy they made the accommodations to fit my large party. Our waiter was amazing and handled our large table with no problems, not once did he mess up which I was surprised since usually large parties they tend to mess at least one or two things up, but I did not have a problem. We started out with the duck fat fries and they were amazing!! The menu was a little small but I couldn't have been happier about that since I personally can never make my mind up with large menu's. They have a large selection of different wines, craft beers and specialty drinks. I had the fluffy nut drink ( i believe that's what it was called) and it was to die for!! I also had the thanksgiving sandwich which was out of this world!!! They have really good portion sizes as well too. Jennifer also had their pastry chef create my birthday cake which was a Nutella cake and I must say I'm not normally a cake person but this was the best cake I've ever had, hands down. They made my birthday dinner one that I would never forget!!! I plan on coming back here again,and I recommend this place to everyone. Disappointing. Duck fat tots - Advertised with parm - very little if any. Avacado-ranch sauce was good but very rich. In my opinion, it needed a sauce to cut the richness of the duck fat - something with acid. A large portion for $8, but needed additional sauces to add variety. Ordered the Jerk Chicken Sandwich and the Pork sliders. Was notified later that the pork sliders were 86 (this was at 7:00). With an extremely limited menu, I would think that the wait staff would know what was and was not available. Jerk Chicken sandwich was spicy, served with cheese, tomato and lettuce, hardly a $13 sandwich but fine. Didn't taste the mango-habanero glaze and find it odd that it came with cheese. After Pork sliders were unavailable, ordered the chicken lettuce wraps as a replacement. Slides came complete the chicken bone. My partner was lucky enough to pull his half of the leg bone out before chewing it, I was not. Sauce was good, but how sloppy of a chef to leave a bone half the size of the lettuce in a lettuce wrap. Extremely disappointed. Was asked if I needed another glass of wine, but seemed oblivious to the fact that my dining partner had an empty soda glass numerous times. Dining room was small and quiet. Cocktail menu was unique and beer menu well-chosen, albeit not extensive. Their offering was not exactly what they had on the menu. Charcuterie was a highlight, large portion relative to price with well-selected local cheeses and meats. Duck fat tater tots were perfect - lightly fried, crispy, addictive. Burger was solid, high quality meat, but they shied away from preparing it rare, as ordered. Really it was closer to medium well. The butternut squash soup was beyond excellent although more like dessert. The tuna tacos very perfectly crispy and spicy. Dessert didn't quite appeal to our tastes (fried twinkie, brownie sundae) so we opted out. In the end, we were pleased but liked the former version better. read more

Good neighborhood vibe with decent food. Been here several times with a mixed bag of experiences. My favorite dishes are the crab mac and cheese appetizer with siracha and the duck fat tots. Everything else has been good, but not great. Pricier than what I would expect for casual bar food, but they do give good sized portions (appetizers can easily serve as an entree). Service can be spotty (usually due to the slow pace of the kitchen, rather than the wait staff). They are currently in the process of constructing a rooftop bar (projected to open August 2017), which looks like it will be an awesome spot. This is the first time coming to this place for not brunch. So were excited to try their actual food. We got in around happy hour so unfortunately their was no seating left on the rooftop, so we're seated in the restaurant section below which turned out to be quite nice since it was quiet. We were seated right away with a waiter eagerly waiting to take our drink order. They have a number of nice cocktails on the menu. Starting off for apps we ordered the duck fat tots, which were amazing. They came out with an aoli sauce that really elevated the tots. We need a lot of that sauce! For my main I ordered the burger, the burger was cooked properly and was seated with buffalo wings on top! Getting that bite with a buffalo wing and burger was so satisfying! I tried to make it so every bite had both. Also you need to get the sweat potato fries, forget the regular fries, sweet potatoe is where it's at. The meal was very yummy and the service was excellent. Will def come back here! read more

Came by on a Friday night for dinner because the restaurant/tavern down the street had an 1.5 hour wait. Sat down in the restaurant section, since happy hour was already over at the bar. There were a mix of nicely dressed folks, some casual, and a family. A nice mix. The service was good. They were out of the meatloaf, though it was still dinner time. I can't say I liked the food. The sour short ribs did not offer much flavor. They came with these potato sides and a brown sauce. The over all flavor was not sour, it wasn't salty either. It was mildly sweet but overall lacked flavor. I'm not that picky, finish 99% of my meals, but I only managed to eat a couple bites. We also had the crab cake sandwich. It was more promising. There were chunks of crab meat, but the bread was a little burnt and the center of the crab cake tasted a bit under cooked. We essentially ate around the middle. The only good thing about our meal was the duck fat tater tots. But duck fat tater tots are always good. Not impressed with the food, pleasant place to eat and sit for a while though. read more

This almost looked like a dive bar from outside, so I was surprised when we passed through the bar into the back dining room and were greeted by white tablecloths and classy decor. Despite being the only ones in the dining room, our waitress didn't seem bothered and actually went out of her way to help us pick beers and food. When I ordered a pumpkin beer who's keg had already kicked, the waitress brought out a spiced pear to sample instead - quite a lucky turn of events, as it ended up being completely delicious. It was rather late and I had already snacked, so my attention focused on the small plates - I ordered the veggie torte, expecting a flatbread, but was surprised with a stack of roasted veggies layered with blue cheese instead. Again, another lucky turn of events - it was really good, and I didn't miss the extra carbs at all. My wife and I love The Chasseur! Drinks: They have great cocktails, wine selection and liquor selection. However, their drafts are some of the best selection I have seen in the city. Hey, they have Ballast Point Sculpin on draft....win. Always rotating and always have something local. Food: Everything, and I mean everything, is amazing. From their appetizers including duck fat tots and tuna tartare tacos, they are all exceptional. Our favorite is the Steak and Egg: THE BEST. Entrees are amazing: our favorites include the salmon, the sour beef and the meatloaf with bacon jam......yum.... Mac and Cheese: Crab Mac and Cheese......boom. Staff: They are like family. The GM Natalie, Bar Manager Mike (with a flawless beard), bartenders Craig, Jenn and our favorite server Alyson are super attentive, courteous and knowledgeable. I came here for brunch with some friends recently. The food was all very good but the service and atmosphere were rather lacking. When we were seated for brunch they put us all around the bar. This was annoying with a larger group of people since we couldn't really talk to each other. There appeared to be a dining room further back but it was empty. I'm not sure what was going on with that. I started by ordering a cup of coffee that never arrived. A couple of other folks did get coffee that was weak and burnt tasting so I decided not to mention it as long as I wasn't charged for the coffee (which I wasn't.) Next after half of our group placed their orders we were told that we'd have to wait for a few minutes because the kitchen was at capacity. That was odd and resulted in several us getting our food while everyone else was finishing off theirs. The good news is that once our food did arrive it was all very tasty (in an unhealthy comfort food/hangover cure sort of way.) I got the fried chicken on biscuits which I really enjoyed, while my girlfriend got the Crab Benedict. A couple of people got a quiche that looked very good as well. Someone got an order of the duck fat tots to share. The tots were tasty but I didn't think the duck fat made them anything special. One thing that really detracted from the brunch atmosphere was the fact that they had two large TVs near the edge of the bar showing some sort of dumbest home videos show. I get having some TVs for showing sports in a bar but having them running and showing crap made brunch less pleasant. Turning off the TVs would have made this a 3 & 1/2 star review. read more
