Ever since the remodeling of this establishment, everything has suffered. The inside lacks character, and smells like it hasn't been cleaned properly. There are employees vaping behind the bar. And the food is borderline uneatable. We went for happy hour, and I asked the bartender what drinks were included and placed an order for two. When we got the check and saw we were charged $12 for drinks instead of $6 I inquired why, and she said it was her mistake and that the drink she listed wasn't actually included. read more

We stopped in for dinner on a Friday night and the vibe was pretty chill, with groups scattered by the bar and at tables. We picked a table by the door and luckily there were heat lamps that kept us warm on a chilly late November night. The cocktails were okay, but the bartender did go out of her way to find olives for a dirty martini. We shared some plates, including a salad that was fairly straightforward and a couple of their classics. The cast iron mac 'n' cheese was nicely textured with some soft bites and crispy edges intermixed. The honey hot chicken was excellent! The brioche bun was soft, the chicken had a hint of sweetness and packed a nice heat that wasn't too spicy. The food here was absolutely terrible. The servers are nice, but I certainly will not be returning due to poor execution of temperature by the kitchen and everything coming out horrid in taste. I have never eaten somewhere and been offered a substitute for everything that came out. The deviled eggs have crushed potato chips on top with a balsamic drizzle and the flavor once you bite down was a salty, wet mess lol. I bit into my burger and realized it was partially rare when I asked for medium. Ahi tuna tacos - extremely salty with sauce that didn't pair well on top. Meh. Overpriced. I've been wanting to try Southern Provisions for a while and it was just kind of meh. The service was really good. Our server was attentive and pleasant. My friend and I shared a Caesar salad which was decent but nothing to write home about. She had the Mac and cheese with brisket and I did the pick two with brisket, pork belly and Mac and cheese. The Mac and cheese was very basic - it honestly tasted like boxed Mac and cheese. The brisket was very bland but was okay with the provided bbq sauce. I did like the pork belly. It had an interesting flavor profile. I don't think we'll be coming back to Southern Provisions, at least not for the food. read more

Yelp Fam!!!! I'm back with another review of a Canton favorite. As a whiskey Fan, Enthusiast & consumer SP provides many varieties of whiskey to try. I took advantage of that and had a Manhattan! Our server was very helpful and nice. The whole staff checked on us several times during the happy hour to make sure we were good. Recently moved to the area, stopped by to have dinner w/my kids. There was an orioles game on so it was very loud but my son wanted to leave because there was so much cursing. No one approached us. There were two bartenders, I walked up and waited a bit to be acknowledged. The girl ignored me and the guy gave me a menu. We put in our order and I specifically mentioned ketchup for the fries because we just moved to the area and I don't have ketchup in the house yet. He put the order in. Came back 15min later to tell me the food would be ready shortly. After 30min of waiting I walked up to the bar and started trying to get answers. The girl had no idea I ordered food and the guy was nowhere. She went to the back and came back with our order. We got home and there was no ketchup for the fries. Brunch Sunday - Newly remodeled - decided to give it a try. First party to arrive at 11:15am - 6 of us didn't get served until after noon. Bloody Mary was just vodka and mix - no olives, celery, bacon, horseradish - was so weak had to order vodka on the rocks and pay an extra $3 convenience charge. Chocolate chip pancakes was a single pancake that did not fill 1/2 of the plate. Chicken and french toast portion was small. All 6 of us will not return to SoPro. This was my first visit here. I ordered my burger over the phone since the kitchen closes at 11pm and it was 10:45, I asked for no cheese and to add carmelized onions & tomato. When I picked up my food I checked it at the bar counter, there was no tomato or carmelized onions. The kitchen staff was already gone when I got there a little after 11 so I couldn't get any carmelized onions but I was given the tomatoes on the side to add. I'm going to come back for dine in and I'll update my review after that experience. I do have a suggestion to add, dill pickles for the burgers/sandwiches should be an option. My last day in Baltimore- some colleagues and I met here for our last friend lunch. We order the Mac-n-Cheese spring rolls for our starter. Let's just say we were all beyond impressed! So, hot and fresh and crunchy and cheeses and just damn good! The dipping sauce was so good. For my meal I ordered the BLT and potato salad. The BLT was not a normal BLT. It was loaded with bacon cooked in some sweet, savory, and spicy glaze. The tomato was a deep fried green tomato. The entire sandwich was PERFECT. I finished every bite. The potato salad...... yeah. If you're looking for a private space to rent for an event, I highly recommend Southern Provisions. I had trouble finding a space around the city to host about 40-50 people for my friend's 30th birthday party. From unanswered emails, pricy minimums, unavailability, the process became quite frustrating. Jodie, the GM, answered my request right away and was very responsive throughout the party planning. I stopped by one random night to scope out the upstairs event space and without hesitation the manager, Andrew (aka Tomato), kindly showed me around. The space is full of fun, colorful decorations and lights, has its own bathroom, multiple TVs, a projector screen, and private bar. I even had the option of connecting to their sound system and playing music for the night. It was $200 to reserve the space from 7-10pm which went towards our minimum. The night of the party, we were allowed to arrive at 6pm to set up. The bartenders, Chelsea and Stephen, and the manager, George, were there to greet us. They were extremely helpful and took the time to hang decorations and help rearrange chairs and tables. We opted for the buffet style option for food and had a cash bar. All of the food was delicious and gone by the end of the party. We danced, sang, and cried (when the Ravens lost to the Titans). Nonetheless, it was a wonderful party. A great place to go to for happy hour. They have a great variety of drink and food specials Monday thru Friday until 7pm. I can't remember what time the happy hour starts but I think it's at 4pm. I had a Kona draft beer which was 4$ on the Happy hour menu and got their Mac n cheese egg rolls for 7$. The Mac n cheese egg rolls were really good, and the sauce given for dipping had a little kick to it. We came on a rainy Friday night and it was pretty empty though, so I don't recommend coming here then if you're looking for a place with a lot of people and a good vibe. This locations has gone through multiple owners and themes over the past decade but this one is my favorite... no offense to the memory of JDs XD Apps - the crispy Brussels sprouts are amazing. The smoked then fried wings are OK... personally I would prefer them to be crispier but that is obviously difficult when you smoke them first. The crack fries are insane... if you order this you better bring your appetite and friends! The portion is huge. Sammiches- the brisket French dip and brisket burger are both amazing. Honestly I haven't tried the other ones . Sliders - Nashville hot chicken sliders. Phenomenal. The Mac and cheese are decent but probably you should just get the Mac and cheese app. Salad - I haven't tried them... which is a bit odd because I love trying salads at Gastro pub's. I'll update this once I have. Sides - pretty basic. The Brussels sprouts are again amazing. Entrées-the Nashville chicken and waffles is once again the way to go here. The Veggie bowl is reportedly decent but I haven't personally had it. Mac & cheese bowls - all amazing. No surprise; the Brussels sprouts version is amazing. But honestly they all rock. The BYOBBQ platters are great... choose your own adventure. For those in search of amazing food in the Square, you have to try this place. Came here this past Friday night for a friend's birthday dinner. This place has been on my bucket list so Friday was a perfect night to give it a try. We got there round 8pm so it really was not too crowded and was pretty much able to seat ourselves. The menu was pretty vast and it was pretty hard to choose, so we started with 3 apps share, the cracklings, white trash tacos and the Fried Green Tomato and Mozzarella The cracklings were pretty much like crack, they were supposed to be served with the garlic chipotle garlic sauce, but we got a side of bbq sauce instead. To be honest the bbq sauce was not needed, they were fine without the sauce. The white trash tacos were my favorite actually, served Fried chicken, slaw, pimento cheese, pickled jalapeños on corn tortillas, really good mix if flavors, I was a little leary of the pimento cheese, but it was a really good mix. The fried green tomatoes with mozzarella was ok, the red wine vinegar reduction did not have too much flavor at all, could barely taste the flavor, I think a balsamic reduction would have worked better. Now on to dinner, my two friends split the BYO BBQ Platter, where you have a choice of choosing a variety of meats and sides. They did the 3 meat choices and two sides( they chose the beef brisket, the meat loaf and pork belly, with macaroni and cheese and brussel sprouts). The brisket and pork belly were my fave, the meatloaf was decent, the sauce they utilized was a little overpowering but palpable. I decided to keep it simple and just grab a burger, I tried the beef brisket burger, absolutely delicious, very juicy and full of flavor. First, I want to note that my group had wonderful service when we went for dinner on a Tuesday night, and the food came out very quickly. The atmosphere on the covered patio was really nice and all staff were following COVID protocol. The food and drinks unfortunately were a mixture of hit and misses. Drinks: - Estas de Borracho: all my companions got this drink and none of them liked it. It's made with mezcal, agave, and grapefruit bitters but more than one of them said it tasted "like propane." - Classy Lady: I got this drink and thought it was light and refreshing. I couldn't taste the Tanqueray at all, but definitely got the Peach Schnapps. It came in a large pint class so I'm guessing the booze was probably watered down with the soda water that is also part of the recipe. Food: Mac and cheese with pork belly: a friend got this dish and loved it, which jives with the other outstanding reviews SP's mac and cheese has gotten. Canton Smash Burger: another friend got this and said it was very tasty. Brisket cheese steak: third friend got this and also was very happy with the dish. Nashville chicken sliders: I got this and man was it a huge letdown. Firstly, the name of the dish is kind of misleading because when you think of Nashville (hot) chicken, you think fried chicken. I figured that was implied by the name but the chicken came out broiled instead. The slider buns were kind of tough, so every time I would take a bite the chicken and pickle would slide out of the bun (it was very messy to eat). Finally, the thing that really made this dish a no-go for me was the sauce. It was absolutely not BBQ sauce-- it was ketchup with a few shakes of spice. I actually only ate one of the sliders because the sauce was so ketchup-y that it was making me feel sick. I had my friend taste it to make sure it wasn't just me and her screwed up face said it all. She later asked the server for some BBQ sauce to go with her mac and cheese and she got the same formula I got. Big disappointment. The patio closes at 10pm, but the lights went off at 9pm and the server explained that they're on a timer but made no mention of trying to turn them back on. There were 3 other tables eating outside (now in the dark except for the light of the TVs) so I thought that was odd. Then at 9:18 the TVs also turned off leaving everyone completely in the dark. No explanation was given but our group joked that it was a sign they were ready for us to go. Not a super welcoming place to stay and strange given the open hours of the patio. While some of our visit was good and some bad, I'm hoping to try SP again in the future to give it another shot. There are so many good reviews and it could have been an off night or a fluke. I would love to leave a better review in the future after having a better experience next time. read more

We came for Saturday brunch and were shocked by how few people were there. Was this a hint perhaps? It took us a bit to figure out what we wanted, there were so many things that sounded delicious on the menus. (We got two menus, the all-day and the brunch.) The waitress was patient in checking in on us to see when we were ready to order. We finally got a plate of deviled eggs. I got the Nashville chicken and waffles sandwich with crispy potatoes. My daughter got peanut butter French toast and a side of fried Brussels sprouts. The eggs were good but we couldn't taste all the flavors listed on the menu. My chicken came naked though I ordered it tossed with the honey sauce. The waitress got me syrup as that was missing also. My waffles were not quite cold but close. And my crispy potatoes were decidedly NOT and I was SOOooo looking forward to great potatoes instead of mealy ones. Very disappointed. My daughter loved her meal, though. This canton bar is doing it right during covid with a big tent and lots of airflow for covered outdoor seating. We got wings here that were smoked and fried to perfection. The fries were crunchy and delicious (and I'm very picky about fries). This place used to have an amazing cocktail called so pro sour (basically a whisky sour with egg white) that is currently not on the menu due to covid. I came hear for a special event called Night Brunch and everything was good! The special drink was Maker's Mark. I had to mix drinks that was made perfect! My drink was missing the skewer of pickles that were supposed to be in the drink. When I asked for some pickles, my server brought me a few pickle chips. My meal and drink were fine overall, but underwhelming. It wasn't a bad meal, but I don't think it's a place that I need to visit again, at least for brunch.
