While we were walking around and exploring Cherokee street (highly recommend!!) we saw the art on this building, noticed some cats in the windows and then realized it was an actual cat cafe!! I'd been wanting to check one of these out so we immediately went inside. The first room is where you can place and order for a drink from the cafe and check in for your visit. We didn't have reservations but they were able to accommodate us without a wait. Entry was $5 per person which I felt like was a good value. There are two floors of nooks, seating and of course cats! The best interactions seemed to be the natural ones. We sat down at a table with a game of scrabble and had a couple of visitors come by. Overall happy we did it and really enjoyed our visit! Passed this cute cat cafe on an antiquing day and stopped in for some lemonade and some pets. All of the cats (the awake ones) were quite friendly and 100% of the cats were sweet! The facility is cute! A downstairs and an awesome upstairs with windows, a large table, chairs, and the cars who just want to get away from it all (downstairs is smaller and busier). I had a lemonade and only stayed 10-15 minutes. I'm glad this place isn't full of cushions like the other local cat cafe I have visited. I think that must help with the hair and likely the aroma too. It does smell like an animal shelter in the combination of animal + recently cleaned scents. This did not bother me. My experience was not what the first reviewer's were, nor would I mind much if it had. (No shade to Karen; she should share her opinion of the place.) Gentle reader, if the cats happen to not be "friendly" or "social," consider that they were recently rescued from the euthanasia lists at local shelters. Maybe they're not used to being in a building with so many people coming, going, and letting them all day... Or being in a room with multiple cats. Or maybe it's just what they are like. I love this place!!! It's so cute, and there are so many kitties to pet and play with :) They were all pretty sweet and the staff care about them a great deal, you can tell by the way they all have unique profiles made of them. We got coffee and spent the morning going from kitty to kitty. They have a pink collar policy to warn of cats who may be prone to kitty violence, but we took a chance, and my partner did get bit. But lesson learned, proceed with caution- I still rate it 11/10 :) read more

We love this place and the good they are doing in the St. Louis community. We first visited in the spring and have been back a few times since. They are super helpful and kind and provide great coffee to complement your experience. Last weekend we adopted a beautiful tortoiseshell kitten. Adopting from a cat cafe helps ensure that your cat will already be socialized and ready to come into a home with existing pets. Our little girl did so well adjusting. My visit to The Cheshire Grin Cat Cafe was my second time at a cat cafe in St. Louis. My group mate and I visited around 3 p.m. on a Saturday. The cafe is sectioned into two halves. First, you walk into the cafe itself, where you can order drinks and treats and check out the cafe's small gift shop, full of cat-themed trinkets. I did purchase a cat pen, cat sticker and cat tree LEGO set. The second half of the cafe is the cat area. This area is very large - two stories, and provides ample room for the cats to run around, play and sleep. My group mate and I ordered an iced chai latte and speciality latte (red raspberry and white mocha). The drinks weren't anything too special. The speciality latte was very sweet. To enter the cat area, you must pay a $5 entry fee per person and sign a liability waiver. I thought this price was very reasonable. For the other cat cafe I visited several years ago, you had to make a reservation to play with the cats and pay nearly $50 for entry. There were about 10 different cats milling around the upstairs and downstairs. All of them were pretty skittish and anti-social. My group mate and I are cat people and are very comfortable around feline friends, but we just both felt like none of the cats wanted anything to do with us. One of them scratched up my group mate's hand too. I understand these are rescued cats and their behavior is not fault of the business. Providing a comfortable space for cats to roam around is amazing. I just think visitors should understand that these cats, or at least the ones there during my visit, didn't really care to have much to do with the human visitors. read more

We have been here a few times since they've been open and have had positive experiences in the past. All along, this cafe has noticeably smelled of cat urine. I've been to several cat cafes in St. Louis and elsewhere and have never encountered such a strong litter box smell at other cat cafes. We visited recently, and the smell was so extreme we left after about 5 minutes. Unlike previous visits, most of the adult cats were wearing pink collars indicating they were unfriendly, and even those who were not wearing the collars scratched and hissed when gently approached. I have to wonder if the dirty litter boxes are stressing the resident cats to the point that it's impacting their behavior and quality of life. This place has a lot of potential. I don't know what's changed in the past few months but our last visit just made us sad. I hope the cats here are more well cared for than it seemed on our recent visit. We will not be returning here. read more

I never thought I would ever go to a Cat cafe. I am 100% a dog person and I dont drink coffee or tea. However a friend and I were visiting another establishment on Cherokee and saw this place and decided to give it a try. My friend ordered coffee and I ordered a chocolate milk. We went inside and it was lovely. It was nice getting to love on those babies. I will be back. They prefer a reservation of you plan to go. read more

First the smell... but beyond that, the litter boxes are super full and don't look to have been cleaned in a long time! There is an overwhelming smell of pee and poop. There is too many sick cats in there and they don't look to be getting the help they need. There puke and diarrhea on surfaces. These cats are sick, cranky, and not cared for properly. Only thing I give it two starts for is the space they have and the friendliness of the humans. Oo and don't order food or drinks. I got coffee and it took them 25 mins to get one coffee. read more

This place had glowing reviews but I was a little disappointed. There is a small cafe at the entrance with a good selection of coffee drinks, freshly prepared, but a very small pastry case with a limited selection of muffins and danish. My coffee was good but very sweet. You can choose to eat at the front counter or take your food and drink past the double set of doors into the cat area. There weren't many places to eat on the main floor so we had our pastries in the front. It was very small and very quiet (some music would be nice). Once we went in, we found that most of the cats were pretty unfriendly. We were hissed at, scratched at, and bitten by the majority of the cats. There were a couple of nice cats but only one was really friendly. If I were looking to adopt, I would not have found a cat with a great temperament. I understand cats. They are unpredictable, not super interested in pleasing you, and usually don't like strangers. If your business is introducing people to adoptable cats in a welcoming environment, I would probably be more selective about the cats on offer. The Cheshire Grin had a decent space and there were more cats and places to interact upstairs. It is in an old building and they made the best use of the space they could, but downstairs was cramped and upstairs was a little cold and uninviting. I think they limit upholstery to avoid cleaning up after the cats, but some cushioned chairs would have made it more comfortable to linger. The staff was friendly and helpful but their advice was pretty frequently "that cat isn't very friendly, probably best not to try to pet him". It was not a terrible experience but it wasn't great. We probably won't be back to this location and will likely try another cat cafe next time. read more
