Disclaimer: I normally write reviews in a purely informal narrative style, but for this review -…read morebecause I believe so strongly in the scientific evidence and want others to know and benefit - this review drifted into nerdiness by my inclusion of three examples of the many scientific papers as evidence for my reasons for taking HBOT therapy. I went for a series of sessions following lumbar fusion surgery because a significant body of research shows pre-operative HBOT therapy can very significantly reduce post-operative complications (Hyperbaric Oxygen Preconditioning Can Reduce Postabdominoplasty Complications: A Retrospective Cohort Study (Friedman, T., et al., 2019), especially those horrible bone infections that aren't noticed for weeks to months after surgery, and to speed up healing (Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy in Orthopaedics: An Adjunct Therapy with an Emerging Role (Jeyaraman, M., et al., 2023). I was very impressed with Dan and Cherise for their professionalism and 100% attention to the entire process. Their attention to detail and professionalism meant even more to me considering HBOT therapy means being kept in a small container where, if you're claustrophobic, it can be stressful. To help with this, Dan always had a ready supply of television shows to watch during the process and in fact, he and I spent many a session watching TV together taking turns sharing movies we liked! Did I mention Dan's impeccable credentials for running a HBOT practice, for attention to detail is vital when it comes to managing high pressure oxygen systems? Yes, Dan was trained under a Navy legend, the famous Master Chief Billy Sunday (played by Robert De Niro in the movie Men of Honor (https://g.co/kgs/6PpaZve). As I will need another surgery soon, I'll certainly be returning to Optimal Hyperbarics as a growing body of evidence points to the benefits of HBOT therapy versus vascular dysfunction, age-related brain microvascular degeneration, etc. (Integrative Role of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy on Healthspan, Age-Related Vascular Cognitive Impairment, and Dementia (Balasubramanian, P., et al., 2021). I have been there a few times myself after being attacked by a dog and the wounds on my arm have healed quicker than anyone would have anticipated. I definitely credit hyperbarics for that. Doctor Anderson truly changed my life on a grand scale of life, shaped me to be better at being a diabetic and he made me carr more about myself. This man's eyes for the details ..yes I mean the smalls is AMAZING!! He truly cares about everything and wants to know everything so he can treat you. When he talks you want to listen to every little word, he inspires you, he puts strength in your wounds/soul and makes you better. I came here damaged but not anymore. I came in for a debridement in my heel but it later turned into skin wounds on my legs. Which at the time I thought was a simple thing, that would fix itself and even my homecare nurse at the time said it wasn't serious but Dr. Anderson noticed it was actually serious. He fixed up fast over a couple of months (in a long detailed process), he gave me some inspirational words each week we met, told me to the importance of having my sugar blood sugar low and; under control, reminded me to keep off my leg and he treated my wounds. He also went beyond that with getting a much better home nurse, the right supplies, a wound vac and now I'm doing skin grafts. Seriously I feel like royalty but this is just normal care I'm sure. I feel like a project but like a awesome new tech (million dollar man) project. I can't tell you guys how much faith I lost before coming to him, weeks of crying, being depress and not thinking I'd ever get better but now I look forward to just living again. I spender months in a hospital bed but now I look forward to defeating diabetes and I look forward to my fresh new legs.  I have been battling through so many doctors, surgeons and a different wound center/team that was horrible "tri-city wound center" (seriously they were ready to cut off my leg, throw me away and they didn't know how to treat me. Save yourself and don't even go to them).  Side note: If you training to go into this career. This man is who you NEED to follow and learn from. He is a amazing leader, a great medical mind, his eye for the details is so FOCUSED, he is like a hawk or sniper, it's the fact he cares about every little thing and; the fact he does it so fast/well is just unreal and he is just a overall great individual. I could go on and on about why Dr. Anderson is so GREAT!!  It's rare to come across a doctor that's really cares you the patient. He treats you like family. He wants to see you truly be better and be healed. I don't cry anymore, I don't feel sad anymore and I have true hope now. I love this doctor and everyone there. I don't know if there's doctor's there but I recommend asking for him only. You'd be foolish to go somewhere else.

As a 47-year-old perimenopausal woman dealing with metabolic health issues, I came to strength…read moretraining from a very different perspective than someone who already enjoys the gym or athletics. I had never strength trained before and was honestly intimidated by the entire experience. I worried about getting injured, looking foolish because I didn't know what I was doing, and whether the effort would actually produce meaningful results. I started training with Christian in late April, and I have been genuinely surprised by the progress I've made. Physically, I've dropped a clothing size in both pants and tops, and my DEXA scans show that I've increased lean mass and bone density while losing weight in a calorie deficit, which is especially meaningful to me at this stage of life. Beyond the visible changes, I've also seen improvements in several health markers, which was one of my primary goals going into this process. For me, strength training wasn't about athletic performance--it was about improving my long-term health. One of the biggest reasons I've been successful is the coaching itself. I have low blood pressure and can become lightheaded during heavier lifts, and I also need careful attention to form and knee positioning to avoid injury while still being challenged appropriately. I don't think I would push myself safely or effectively on my own. Christian does an excellent job of finding that balance between encouragement, proper technique, and progressive overload. One of the strongest endorsements I can give is that he has developed a program tailored specifically to my goals, my health concerns, and my abilities. Over time, that has built a level of trust that allows me to focus on the work itself, knowing that each session is designed to move me safely and effectively forward. He is also genuinely passionate about what he does. Every session includes explanations about physiology, training, and conditioning, which I particularly appreciate because I came into this with almost no strength training knowledge. If you're someone who feels intimidated by the gym, is dealing with health concerns, or simply wants knowledgeable coaching that meets you where you are, I highly recommend working with Christian.

On 9/9/2024 I was injured during a massage at Sports Performance Physical Therapy in Chula Vista…read more The LMT had her elbow in the intercostal space of my left anterior chest when I suddenly felt an incredible amount of sharp, stabbing pain. I cried out and requested that she remove her elbow from my chest. The pain in my left chest was excruciating. I was unable to use my left arm without experiencing an enormous amount of pain. Even breathing was painful. Coughing and sneezing were unbearable. When I woke up the next morning, the pain was severe. Based on my symptoms, I was afraid I had a rib fracture. I contacted Cristianah Comaduran, Operations Manager of Sports Performance to notify her of the injury. She spoke with the LMT, who verified what happened. We stayed in contact over the next several weeks. I informed her that I would be filing a claim with their liability insurance and would contact her once I was completely asymptomatic. For the next two weeks, the pain was severe. I was unable to work, do household chores, and help my 4 year son with the things he needed, like getting dressed, bathing, basic ADLs. I filed a short term disability claim through my employer (I'm an ICU nurse). The stipulation for payment is that the first two weeks are unpaid, and then 60% of earnings are paid. This was a great financial burden for my family. The consequences of this injury were costly with low income for the months of October and November. My pain continued to improve until I caught an upper respiratory infection (URI) that caused continuous coughing. The pain was back and it was severe. Each cough and sneeze was excruciating. Once the URI resolved, my pain improved. For two months, the pain and suffering was debilitating, not allowing me to work, exercise, take care of the household, and most importantly, my son. It caused sleepless nights because the pain medication I was prescribed did little to relieve my symptoms, which lead to chronic exhaustion. The findings of my MRI on 11/14/24, which was two months after the injury, showed asymmetric edema at the level of the left third sternocostal joint. Two months after the injury, I still had abnormal results which were consistent with my symptoms. My thoracic spine MRI from 2022 showed none of these injuries. My PCP's impression was that there was a sprain of costal cartilage subsequent encounter. He determined it was costal-sternal joint strain vs developing costochrondritis. Along with pain and suffering, I experienced anxiety and distress due to financial strain. The injury resulted in thousands of dollars of missed wages. In addition, I was unable to accrue paid time off and contribute to my pension and retirement fund. This set me back two months from being vested at work. When I returned to work, I had very little sick or vacation time due to the inability to accrue paid time off (PTO). In January of 2025, I called out sick for 3 shifts (36 hours) when I was sick with the flu. I did not have enough sick time to cover the hours missed. I also received a double occurrence for my absence, which was not cleared from my record until January of 2026. It was worrisome that despite returning to work, the effects of this injury continued to be a financial burden and was affecting my performance review at work. This incident has also resulted in out of pocket costs, such as co-pays and pharmaceuticals, not to mention I was never reimbursed for the massage that started it all!! Perhaps worse than everything, I had to borrow money from my parents, so there's an element of shame in addition to the pain, suffering, and distress. This injury has been costly in terms of lost wages/PTO accrual and out of pocket expenses, not to mention inability to contribute to retirement and inch closer to being vested at my place of employment. I submitted an incredible amount of documents to Sports Performance in attempt to file a claim against their liability insurance. They were extremely difficult to work with and despite my repeated efforts to present all documents they requested, my claim was denied. Total cost for lost wages and out of pocket costs: $20,224.09. Because of this massage, I experienced pain, suffering, chronic exhaustion due to insomnia, anxiety, distress, and shame...and I didn't even get a fucking apology.

I was taking all kinds of over the counter and prescription meds for these headaches with little relief. I've been to several chiropractors in my life so I thought I knew what to expect. Enter Dr. Jacques "Jox" Allmand -- chiropractor, healer, and possibly a wizard. On my first visit, I explained my symptoms, and while describing the neck and back pain Doc asked "how about headaches?" Without hesitation I said "all the time, every minute". He finished his assessment and said we'd get me feeling better, and "We can definitely fix those headaches." I remember thinking, "Bold claim, sir." But guess what? I have not had a single headache since my first treatment. Not one. It's been three months. I did go back for a few more treatments for my neck and back pain, as I'd been "stuck" for quite a while. I feel better than I have in years. I will be scheduling regular appointments (tune-up Tuesday!) to keep feeling this good. Dr. Jacques uses a mix of conventional and innovative techniques. He's very efficient but when you tell him about a new pain or aren't feeling quite right at the end of the session he takes the time to investigate. You and your pain will be heard. And then you feel better. And then your pickleball game improves! (I hear this is also true for one's golf game.) If you're in pain -- whether it's acute, chronic, new, old, or something you've just decided to "live with" -- don't wait. Run. (Or walk. Or hobble.)
