Don't you just love visiting an ice cream joint, and then ignoring the ice cream on the menu and ordering a BLT on a whim, and finding out that it's one of the best BLTs of your life? Don't you just love that? The BLT at The Chocolate Moose is served on a toasted croissant, with slices of crispy bacon, lettuce and tomato. You can get it with mayo or not (I did not). I think the smart move is to ask for extra bacon. The extra bacon put this sandwich over the top! I don't know if it was because of the extra bacon, or because it was tomato season, but the BLT was perfect and just what I needed. I got some potato wedges to go with my sandwich, and I loved those almost as much as my sandwich. Dang, The Chocolate Moose! Who knew you had such good food? Everyone is raving about the ice cream, but I'm over here screaming (OK, murmuring) about the food. I'm not the biggest ice cream fan, but I do occasionally enjoy ice cream as long as it has some stuff in it. It needs texture and things I can chew on. One of my favorite ice cream treats is a turtle sundae, because it has pecans and caramel in it -- a winning combination. Because I was at an ice cream shop, I thought, "What the heck?" and ordered a cup of sweet mucus -- I mean, ice cream. The turtle sundae that I got at The Chocolate Moose was great! I just wish it had more pecans, but I suppose you can ask for them, which I didn't think to do. They have several different kinds of sundaes, as well as ice cream sandwiches, milkshakes and vegan ice cream. There's a drive-thru, which is convenient, but there is very little parking, which is inconvenient. We came in on a Sunday evening and there was a good sized crowd, which is always a good sign. We were just looking for a little treat before road tripping back from the beautiful Nashville IN and it looked like their menu had everything under the sun. I was shocked every time the tv menus would rotate around! They have anything you could want! For just our quick trip, we got some hot chocolates. The beverage was delicious, nicely chocolatey and the perfect drinking temperature from the start. It was $5 for a 12 oz, which is a fair price for the delicious drink. I noticed that they have a good range of seating options, from larger group tables to couches. It was a really nice place to wind down before hitting the road. The Chocolate Moose has become a family tradition every time we come to Brown County and Nashville, Indiana. Several years ago, we were on our way out of town and my mom wanted to treat the kids to some ice cream. We had such a nice time sitting and relaxing over ice cream after our family trip. The next time we visited Nashville, mom was with us and we ended up at this little ice cream parlor, once again. And another time, as well. Mom just loved getting her grandbabies some ice cream, I guess! Ever since that time, whether my mom is along for the trip or not, my kids beg to go to The Chocolate Moose. Now, I just plan for it as a normal part of our excursion. Lots of great flavors and add-ins. The coffee is great, as well as the milkshakes and sundaes. It's not the cheapest, but I don't think I've ever found an "affordable" ice cream shop, so just shut up dad, and get with the program! The memories far outweigh the small loan I could have taken out to cover our many visits to the Moose! The Chocolate Moose is a locally owned and operated ice cream shop that sells much more than ice cream. The ice cream is homemade with about 16 different flavors. Portions are huge with a small giving you 2 big scoops. I had the Brown County Coffee small cone. The ice cream was sweet and delicious. There was so much ice cream that I couldn't eat it all! Our server was friendly and accommodating. He provided a cup for my granddaughter so she could manage the huge cone. They also serve sandwiches and hot dogs. The all beef hot dogs looked great. They make a variety of specialty coffees, smoothies and teas. Those looked great and I will try next visit. They have a small dining room with tables and sofas and an outdoor patio area with picnic tables. The location in Nashville attracts tourists visiting the historic artist town. The Chocolate Moose is a great little all-purpose coffee and ice cream shop. They offer many varieties of coffee. Their ice cream options are amazing - both soft serve and homemade varieties. Including cones, sundaes, BANANA SPLITS, and more. They have sub sandwiches, Mac 'n cheese, hot dogs fries, and a whole wall full of other options. The staff is very friendly and efficient. Went in to order some ice cream, and the cashier named Abriana was unfortunately rude to me. When I tried ordering a "cookies and cream" ice cream, she said, in a very unenthusiastic and disrespectful tone, "No, we don't have that," and didn't offer any suggestions or alternatives. I then ordered a vanilla ice cream with hot fudge (keep that in mind), and as I'm writing this review, there is not a single drop of hot fudge just a cup that tastes like mostly whipped cream with a little ice cream. Now, going back to the "cookies and cream" ice cream, we asked for whipped cream, a cherry, and some Oreos--nothing crazy. When we received the ice cream, there was no whipped cream or cherry, so I asked, "Hey, would I be able to get whipped cream on this and a cherry?" The lady who grabbed it was very nice and said, "Yes, of course." Then Abriana noticed and said, "She didn't order that, don't give her that." Fortunately, I did end up getting my whipped cream. I used to live in Bloomington and for as long as I can remember, the chocolate moose was amazing. It was a vibe going to the old stand and getting a kids cone while waiting on a frenchie. The college kids working so hard in that little hut will always be a memory. I loved it. So why the 3 stars? The other day I found myself in Nashville and although it had been years, it wasn't my first time visiting the Nashville location. I got the Cookie Monster sundae... there wasn't even 1 piece of cookie dough on it. I had already walked out and ate 3 bites before I realized. No I didn't take it back, I just figured I'd eat what they gave me. I'm not picky. It had brownie pieces and Oreo on it, but no chocolate ice cream so I knew it wasn't one of the other sundaes on the menu. It just wasn't that good. I was disappointed. So maybe I need to go back to Bloomington for ok time sakes. After completing our seven vistas challenge, Brown County Visitors Center listened to our little one describe how eager she was to get a popsicle at the camp store, and the staff there sent us here. Score! We beat the muggy midwestern heat here with a decent ice cream menu, multiplied by shake and sundae options. There are bright slushes and snow cones, perfect for little palettes, and a Brown County Coffee Co. menu for grownups including standards and pour overs. Next time! There were five vegan ice creams the day we visited. Parking isn't huge, but the there are so many treats inside--pretty consistent with the rest of Nashville! I had the chocolate explosion which comes with their "homemade moose chocolate ice cream", hot fudge, oreo, whipped cream and chocolate sprinkles. It was very sweet. Other in my group tried the strawberry cheesecake sundae and the tie die. They said that the tie die was not great but the strawberry cheesecake was good. They also sell mocha frappe which I did not get to try. I will probably go back try it someday. The wait time was very high .. (They were a bit annoyed at that, but they did offer the taste.) I would suggest not ordering anything other than the small. I ordered a medium while everyone else ordered a small. It was a hot day, so ice cream sounded great, and we happened to see this spot while driving by. It's a pretty typical ice cream shop, with some indoor and outdoor seating.
