The Choke Coach is an artichoke-centered food truck that hangs outside Pezzini Farms off of Highway 1. A food truck dedicated to artichokes?! Count me in! I ordered the "fried artichoke wrap," which came with fried artichokes, tomato, lettuce, ranch and parm cheese. It was soooo good. I think it was $7, which is pretty average for a food truck. They take cards now, but there is a .50 charge. The staff was really friendly and they change up the menu every once in a while. My husband and I stopped in to get some artichokes at the stand, and decided for some fried artichoke hearts!! We also ended up trying the Lumpia and she gave us a sample of the artichoke soup which my husband than bought a cup to go!! I just had an unpleasant experience last night in Scott's Valley. Long lines, and by the time we got to order, they said they were out of Tri Tip, which is why we braved the long line to begin with. The menu board stated TRI TIP in bold letters. We ended up ordering something else and when we got called, I asked for some extra sauce since we ordered 2 orders of Lumpia and the young lady said " I gave you enough for 2 ". WRONG. While we were waiting for our Asade Fries, another customer asked for Tri Tip only to be told the same thing and when they asked why it was still on the menu board, it fell on deaf ears. Just like when I asked. I'm sure we weren't the only ones to ask, either. So, I'll probably go to another food truck gathering although, not in Scott's Valley. Only 3 trucks serving food, one truck serving ice cream and long, loooooong lines. I expected much more. read more

Super nice folks. We came just when they were closing and missed the cut off. I had family visiting from Paris and we were really looking forward to the artichoke soup as it was raining all day and we had a flat tire so were soaking wet. Ordered a po'boy: fried artichoke, lettuce, tomato, house/spicy sauce and Parmesan cheese on a Dutch crunch roll $6.50. It seemed kinda pricey at first, but once this sandwich met my lips, I knew it was the right choice. So delicious! read more

Yum! Super nice people and the fried artichokes are delicious! We went here after our terrible experience at the Giant Artichoke and needed to have a good food experience before leaving Castroville. This place was it! Their dipping sauces are from scratch and our favorite was lemon dill. We originally purchases 2 orders and had to get another order to go. My daughter had their cheeseburger and that was very fresh and juicy too. The fried artichokes were fresh, and the batter crispy. Delicious goodness in a light golden batter!!! Our office is in a place with no food places at all and we were all so excited to see the green food truck like a beacon of delicious salvation. If you're lucky enough to stop at the choke coach, you HAVE to get the artichoke wrap!! It's their french fried artichokes wrapped in a tortilla with ranch dressing, lettuce, tomato and parmesan cheese. It's delicious! I was a little apprehensive at first because I wanted to just order the fried artichokes, but this is seriously worth it. You get the artichokes and them some. I kind of wish they would spice up their menu a little bit and make it more creative but overall its a sweet little spot. read more

I was driving on the way to Castroville and thought I would stop off for a quick lunch. I had been wanting to try this food truck out for a long time. Today was the day! I parked and got in line behind two other gentlemen. When I placed my order for 2 tacos and paid my $4 in cash to the young guy wearing a CALIfornia sweatshirt, I started to wonder if he was the only one in the truck since he was not calling out orders. I should have asked. I should have followed my instincts and switched to plan B (going elsewhere). But I was already here and thought even if it was a little slow, that would still be OK. So I went back to my car to wait. A few minutes later I could see for sure that he was the only one moving around in the truck. He called out that an order was ready for Mary and she picked it up. Just after that a group of 4 more ladies got in line to order. I could tell this was really slowing things down as no cooking was going on while he wrote down their orders. I actually thought about driving away instead of waiting but I stayed and waited. And WAITED. It look 27 minutes for my 2 tacos. Yes, that's right. He did say "Thanks for waiting. There's usually 2 of us working" but it would have been nicer to have been warned ahead of time. I really wanted to like this place and I generally only give good Yelp reviews, but obviously I'm pretty mad right now and I think the owner should know about my experience and so should all the other potential customers. On Monday, May 21st, 2018, my sister and I placed an order for 2 fried artichoke hearts right when the Choke Coach opened. The food was good, but we will not return because of the unfriendly(no greeting, no smile), unappreciative employee(not even a thank you, no have a good day, nothing!)...she thought I said thank you & said, "You're welcome." We regret even spending our hard earned money there, but chalk it up to a lesson learned. read more

The [Arti]Choke Coach, always parked in front of Pezzini's produce/artichoke stand several mi. S. of Castroville on Hwy 1, makes the BEST lumpia in Monterey County, I kid you not.Their lumpia is always PERFECT, never burnt, never too greasy; the sweet and sour sauce is just right, and not too sticky sweet. Also, their lumpia is vegetarian. Now they have a great-looking new green truck and have added new artichokey things to their menu (besides their ever-popular french-fried artichokes), like fried artichoke Po-Boys, and fried artichoke wrap, plus they make great tacos and other stuff. You can find the Choke Coach at the Nashua Rd. turnoff (going east), and you'll see the green truck from the turnoff. Oh, and check out Pezzini's, which has wonderful produce. read more

Sitting here at the Choke Coach, an unexpected stop but now Im glad I did. I ordered the hot dog - big portion, sizzling. Fried artichokes with garlic dijon, so good. Tacos al pastor and carne asadas, these have to be my favorites here. Came with green salsa, cilantro, onions. Lots of meat. And the artichoke soup, delicious. Young lady taking orders at Monterey county fairgrounds was very rude, unfriendly, and unprofessional. I will never eat at this truck ever again. Fries were soggy, artichoke heart batter overly thick. The two stars is for good portions for price they were charging. Other than that customer service is subpar. When you working in tight spaces as such as a food truck you gotta have excellent customer service that's what'll bring people back. As for me I won't be. Just stopped by for the artichoke wrap and fried artichokes. My wife loved the fried artichokes. The wrap was ok,,,for 5.50 it could of been filled with more chokes and lettuce and tomatoes. We had our daughter and son-in-law's welcome wedding picnic at the Carmel Community Park on July 15th. We hired Jonathan and the his Choke Coach to cater the luncheon. Everything was delicious. Instead of lining up and ordering the food at the truck, Jonathan quickly realized that it would be better to prepare batches of food and bring it out to the picnic table. Everything was so fresh and hot off the griddle. We planned the menu ahead of time to make it easier. We had 100 guests so we offered tri tip sandwiches, chicken and steak tacos, an artichoke sandwich for the vegetarians, and another type of vegetarian egg roll. While the food was getting prepared we had a fresh fruit and vegetable platter along with fried artichokes and grilled artichokes. For dessert we had ice cream bars and popsicles. The weather was perfect as we were shaded by the tress. Jonathan even brought white linen table cloths and also supplied water and soft drinks for everyone. He also provided the ice cream bars and popsicles. It was a great way to start the wedding weekend. Everyone told me the food was delicious. read more
