First time stopping by Kuki's. Alex was very friendly and personable. His service was very quick and he's a hard worker! In regard to the food, the portion size is large and fair for the price. I ordered the coconut curry tofu and rice. There was a strong coconut flavor and a lot of sauce, which is a good thing in my book! The flavor isn't strong at first bite but it builds to something pleasant. The rice, vegetables, and tofu were cooked perfect and the presentation looked nice as well. Last week I had a big party, 500 some people throughout the night in Monterey. Kuki's was our chosen food truck. Rose and Alex were painless to work with (I can't say that about other vendors). We scheduled a call before the event and touched base once the team made it to Monterey. Kuki's arrived on time and got ready. Once they were serving, lines were at a decent pace. This is my first food truck I ate in Monterey! I was so excited since I am a fan of Off The Grid in SF.. Needless to say at the end of the meal I craved more. I loved the power of making my own rice bowl.. You get to choose your starch: brown rice, white rice or noodles.. Then your protein: chicken beef or pork and your sauce: peanut, coconut red curry, ponzu citrus or teriyaki. My pick was brown rice, coconut red curry with chicken. They do give hefty portion.. I mixed the rice throughly before I dipped my chopsticks in, to make sure I would get the tasty sauce and chicken in practically every bite. First bite.. I was a bite disappointed.. The rice was a bit too hard for my comfort the sauce was flavorful enough but a little to scarce. I thought they could have added a bit more sauce, so throughout my meal I mixed and mixed and it still the rice bowl didn't give me that "oomph ". I also bought a Mochi cake..maybe I'm not used to that style of Mochi cake, since different establishments makes it differently. It was very mushy and dark yellow.. I was hesitant to buy it just by the looks but I know better.. Just because it doesn't like appetizing, it doesn't mean it isn't. Again it didn't suit my palate. On my way out of town, I stopped by this food truck at MFC. I ended up with a brown rice bowl with half green beans with miso and half kinpira gobo + bonsai chicken. What is bonsai chicken you ask? The best darn baked chicken that has a crispy skin, but moist and tender meat. It is marinated in teriyaki or some sauce but it is good stuff! I ended up making 2 meals out of that one bowl with rice to spare for breakfast with eggs and avocado! The owner was kind to include a piece of kabocha mochi, just like the Hawaii butter mochi I grew up with. It was delicious and I sliced a piece off after every meal to devour until it was gone. I really wish you would open a truck in East Bay! I would be your loyal bonsai chicken addict. The veggies are delicious too and the drippings from the chicken flavored that rice up just fine. Kuki's served the food for our wedding reception at Holman Ranch in Carmel Valley. We spent many months searching for just the right catering vendor, with the goal of fun and interesting food selections in mind. We envisioned a casual atmosphere, where guests could choose what and how much (and when) they wanted to eat, as opposed to the typical plated meal of many traditional weddings. We found that most vendors wanted to wrestle our vision away from us, and force us back into the box of What A Wedding Should Look Like. We also discovered that many vendors were quick to add a "wedding tax," charging us double for the same food and experience, simply because we said the word, "Wedding." Finding Kuki's was a dream come true. From the moment I reached out to them, they were professional, attentive and accommodating. They helped us create the perfect menu, and then went above and beyond to follow through, making sure that everything was organized. Teri and Juan arranged to meet us for a tour of the site to finalize details. Teri had a warm and confident demeanor, and his experience in the industry was evident. We trusted that all would go smoothly under his watchful eye. The one thing that we didn't get a chance to do was sample the food beforehand! I had hoped that the flavor and food quality would match the excellent presentation (of the website, the menu descriptions, and the display they set up at the reception). My husband and I made time to steal away from the crowd and properly sample all the menu items. We were thrilled! The food was SO good (especially the lemongrass shrimpcakes, YUM)! It was exactly what we had in mind, but even better than we expected!! This was one of the highlights of my day. Kuki's' caterers were delightful. Their bright smiles made our guests feel warmly welcomed, and they were detail-oriented and efficient with their setup and service. Teri also recommended a bartender for serving our beer and wine, and he was fantastic as well. The food truck blended into the environment well, and they did a great job striking a balance between casual and sophisticated. It was perfect. Yum! I've eaten at this food truck twice now and can't wait for the next time. I caught them at the MPC farmer's market on Friday mornings. You have to try the Bonzai chicken. It has a great depth of flavor that balances a hint of sweetness with notes of ginger. The meat is incredibly juicy while the skin super crispy and it isn't fried which is a mystery to me. I had a chance to try one of their bowls the other day and it was fantastic too. They have several different choices of proteins (I got the chicken) that u can put on top of white or brown rice or noodles. The sauces that they make really put the bowls over the top. I recommend mixing the peanut sauce with the curry, it is awesome. read more

We knew right away as a nice friendly team you two would be great, but we originally were concerned about how the food would taste and about the presentation . Our concern was could a food truck specializing in rice bowls prepare a diverse meal of foods from different parts of the world. Well, you did and it was great! Everything was delicious and was a big hit with our guests. Food from France, Asia, Spain, and regional favorites from the US was a lot of fun and everyone loved it. The Asian bowls were a crowd favorite as the meat was so tender and the coconut sauce outstanding. You hit it out of the ball park with the authentic Chicago style mini hotdogs with the neon green relish & celery salt. Thought we were in the windy City. My boyfriend and I tried food from this food truck and we thought it was delicious. The flavors that were combined added a depth of flavor that was just delicious and enjoyable. Excited to see a new food truck in the area especially Asian, but once I got there and seen the prices at MPC farmers market I was almost turned away. I understand food trucks are a bit pricier than others but some student come here and wouldn't like the price either. Disregarding the price I still ordered the Tucson fried rice and a custom bowl, thinking it cost 16$ I would assume the portions to be a bit bigger. Once I got the food which took some time they got my name wrong even though I was the only one there so I waited even longer for my food. When I began to eat it the fried rice had minimal flavor and for 8$ I was expecting some sort of protein in it not just brown rice and veggies for example chicken, also on the rice plate the beef was bland and flavorless. I've been to many upon many food trucks throughout California, but this was quite a disappointment. read more

I have tried their food several times and each time tried a different dish. I decided to eat there because of their proximity to the school. Several times at the beginning of the lunch hour they have been out of key ingredients. As for the quality of food, the meat has absolutely no flavor. It seems like the cook the meat separately and then add the sauce to it without any seasoning. They added a new dish called a "Kimchi Burrito" that attracted me once again to try their food. I am a big fan of Korean food and I love kimchi. I was severely disappointed with the burrito because it had no kimchi flavor and consisted of sweet red cabbage, stale dark meat chicken, and flavorless rice. This is in no way a "Kimchi Burrito". Their prices are ridiculous for their portion sizes and the food quality is very poor in terms of flavor, variety and authenticity. read more

Kelly catered to our every need for my sons rehearsal dinner of 40. The appetizers the very best everyone loved the chicken wings. I work in the industry in Orange County and have had many vendors cater my programs and Kelly is top notch! Our chef did an awesome job producing bowl after bowl of whatever each of us ordered to PERFECTION. Excited to see Kuki's Bowl at MPC farmer's market today (Friday) and searched around the menu for gluten free options. I went right before close so I was lucky and was able to chat with the sweet order taker about my allergies and she was quite knowledgeable about food which was reassuring. I got two orders of the Bonzai Chicken (no teriyaki sauce), side of Calrose rice (Japanese rice made in Cali they had run out of brown rice) with a fried egg. I wanted the bok choy salad but the tofu pieces on top (not to mention the dressing) were flavored with soy or teriyaki sauce so that wasn't feasible. I walked away and noticed that the oven roasted chicken looked fried so I went back to double check and sure enough there was a coating of flour dusted on the pollo. Glad that they were so patient and understanding. I ended up leaving with an iced green tea brewed earlier with ginger and honey. So bummed I couldn't eat their food but very happy that they are honest and accommodating. I wouldn't be surprised if they come up with gluten free options in the near future. The chicken looked so darn tasty! They offer a couple desserts including a tropical mango mochi and a classic Japanese beverage - canned coffee. It was just not good. This food truck was parked out in front of del Monte beach, at an outrigger canoe event over the Memorial Day weekend. It was the only food truck and place selling food so we were hungry and opted to try it. The truck itself is eye catching with menu items that appeared average. Ordered chicken teriyaki bowl and spam musubi. Omg... The rice on the musubi was rock hard. It seemed like it was refrigerated for at least a couple days and either microwaved or let out to warm. It was nasty, and everyone in my party who tasted it couldn't even swallow their bite. Now for the chicken teriyaki bowl... Imagine boiling a chicken breast then shredding it with your fork followed by pouring over store bought teriyaki sauce (or was it soy sauce) over the shredded breast. Instant "pulled chicken" again it was just not good. Even though I was so hungry I couldn't take more than two bites. The rice was hard and cold as well. I'm not sure what people think of this food? Maybe tourists love it and think it's delicious Japanese/Hawaiian food? I dunno. I did enjoy one thing. My canned ito en green tea :) one star for that! read more

I've ordered several dishes from Kuki's at the MPC Farmers' Market and have devoured each one! Twice, I ordered rice bowls with veg and tofu: Absolutely delicious! Everything is hyper-fresh, wonderfully seasoned but not too salty, hot, and filling. I especially appreciate the starch options, as well as the very generous portion sizes, which are very satisfying but not overly filling. Beverage options are also appealing: I loved the unsweetened green tea. I'm also grateful that Kuki's accepts VISA cards. Now that I'm a fan, I place my order at Kuki's when I arrive at the market and ask when I should come back to pick up my lunch. After buying my produce, my lunch is waiting for me, and I can enjoy a tasty, healthful lunch. Finally, I think the staff are very efficient and courteous. read more
