My wife and I had a "date-night" at the Chop House. The ambiance was good. Then after 8:00 the lights were dimmed and the ambiance became a bit more intimate. We both order the prime rib, tossed salads and baked potatoes. Prior to our food arriving we were offered bread that came with cinnamon butter, which arriv d warm and was a good addition to our meal. Shortly afterwards our salads came. Before we could really begin to eat our salads the entrees were brought. The quality of our meal was excellent as was our waitress. Our only regret was our failure to request our entrees not to be brought until we had finished our salads. Went to The Chop House on UGA graduation day, so it was extremely busy, but overall the service was still great. Our food came out quickly, which honestly impressed me considering how packed everything in Athens was that day. My steak did come out at the wrong temperature initially, but the staff handled it really well. They immediately made me a brand new steak and even sent me home with a full to-go meal, which I really appreciated. Mistakes happen, but good customer service is what matters, and they definitely made it right. The food overall was really good. The deviled eggs always hit, the creamed spinach was delicious, and the loaded potato was solid. The corn had a smoky flavor to it that caught me off guard at first, but it was still sweet and flavorful. Overall a good experience at The Chop House, my only 2 dislikes were that my Seafood Fettuccine Alfredo pasta could have used some seasoning (everything kinda blended together and tasted the same). The vegetables are not overcooked. I liked the piccata . My friends liked the salmon, chopped steaks, and the burger. All 3 said their choices were perfectly done and they would order them again. Visited the Chop House to celebrate a house closing. We had a 7:00 reservation to sit at the bar. The restaurant is very nice and has a steak house feel to it. We had a wonderful server who took great care of us all night. I ordered the prime rib. It was delicious and perfectly medium cooked. The loaded potato was full of sour cream, chives, cheese, and bacon. My wife got the New York strip. She had it Pittsburgh style, seared on the outside and medium rare on inside. A great place to go for any type of celebration. Even for lunch they really roll out the red carpet. The chargrilled shrimp and crab cake is a good mix of an appetizer. My child gave it 2 thumbs up. The ribeye is so tender it can be cut with a butter knife and such good flavor. The corn creme brulee is a unique twist. To me very similar to creamed corn. I like the deviled eggs with the piece of bacon in it. The shrimp & crab cake combo is ok. I got a grilled shrimp from my friend's plate to eat with my salad & it was good. The crab cake is more bread than I care for but it's flavorful. JA liked her sirloin steak & mashed potatoes. The calamari & fried shrimp was good & I also took a couple of those shrimp to eat with my salad. I think JO liked the fettucine ok but will probably try something else next time. Service and ambiance were great. We made reservations for Mother's Day and were seated early. They provided complimentary bread which was good, but would have been better if it were warm. The side salad with ranch dressing was delicious and so was the ribeye. My husband tried the voodoo tacos and did not find them to be worth it. Decided to try chops after graduation night because they were the only place that was taking/had reservations. The atmosphere of Chops is very upscale--dim lighting, profession yet friendly staff. It's a shame the food didn't match up the ambiance. I ordered the catch of the day which was the mahi mahi on rice pilaf and a side of loaded baked potato. Mahi Mahi was salty and dry which was sad because the rice pilaf had so much potential. Was not a fan of this fish at all, and everyone who ordered it at the table agreed. My friend ordered the rib eye which j tried a piece of and that was pretty decent. The only thing I truly enjoyed was the loaded baked potato. For appetizers we had the shrimp and calamari. Once again, very salty almost distractingly salty. I'm such a calamari fan but I did not enjoy this. I tried the Southern Belle to drink, sweet but strong. I would order it again if I wasn't driving. Overall, for this to be classified as an "upscale" steakhouse, the food was very lackluster. It gives very much LongHorns with an expensive price tag. read more

I learned that this is part of Southern chain of restaurants. The award winning owner has been doing this style of restaurants throughout Tennessee and Florida. With that said, there wasn't anything special about this location. PROS They use OpenTable and have plenty of reservations available. The table was ready as soon as we arrived. Able to accommodate large parties. We only had 5 people in our party but I saw several tables that had 10+ people. Ability to create smaller portions. Large variety of options available and ability to chef substitute suggested sides with another option. Nice specialty cocktails - Wouldn't go off menu. Friendly staff CONS Food was okay. We had the 10 oz Sirloin that had to be sent back for being so rare it was hard to cook. The manager returned the same steak and was cooked the way it was expected. The Daily Catch of the Day was the Mahi Mahi and was a little chewy. If you've ever had blue crabcakes on the east coast, these are slightly different. Non Specialty Drinks were so-so. My husband took me on Sunday for Valentine's. My husband ordered a medium well steak, and my son ordered a medium steak. My husband's steak was RARE and my sons was burnt to a crisp. We said something to the manager, and they never offered to redo our steaks. All he said was I will give you a free desert. What good is that when you couldn't eat the steak it was so burnt. One of the dinners the Fish was well undercooked almost to the point it might not even been cooked, we were told it was just wet, and they would get another one. Again did not see him again till we were almost done with our meal. Thank goodness we didn't need anything. Ordered the medallions of filet with bacon bourbon jam. It was chewy and overly sweet. Know if ruined the steak but it was all over it. Had the corn brûlée, it was really good but could have been a dessert. Very sweet. The other sides I tried were the sweet potato fries-needed to be a little more crispy. The Mac and cheese was a baked Mac and cheese and was very good. We had the chocolate mousse pie. Was very good. We almost passed because they were not hand breaded, but Caleb told us they would be good and they were. My husband ordered the chicken and rib combo, which was HUGE! They were both tasty. I ordered the Prime Rib. Goodness, it was flavorful and also an ample portion. The salad with HOMEMADE dressing was so big I shared it with my Honey. We stopped in for lunch. They have a lunch menu priced from $13-$16. We got the steakhouse burger the burger was a smash burger very large. It wasn't overly seasoned but was still good. Also we got the voodoo chicken taco lunch portion with Mac and cheese and side salad. I got the voodoo sauce on the side. It wasn't overly hot but did have a little heat. The Mac and cheese was shell pasta and very creamy more like an Alfredo sauce flavor. Very good and rich. The atmosphere was very clean and spacious. Beautiful. I heard so many great reviews about Chop House around the time it opened, but I gave it a few months to break in before trying it to make sure people still felt positively about it. We clearly did not have a good experience. The ambiance is that of a senior citizen's cafeteria restaurant. It seems very old and weird inside. Not swanky, not a date joint, zero "vibes" if you will. The food for me was very underwhelming but the worst is when they tried to serve my 4yo undercooked shrimp. A steak is one thing...it can be hard to tell if a steak is cooked without prodding or cutting into it. But shrimp? They were gray and raw! I was absolutely astonished. Because I'm not used to inspecting my kid's shrimp dinners for being cooked, I wasn't even paying attention at first, but caught him start to cut into one and quickly was able to stop him from consuming it.
