I had a crazy hankering for some good fried catfish, so I went online to a local group and asked for recommendations. A whole lot of people replied to me with suggestions from all over the area plus some that were not so close by One of the closest places was the one restaurant that was recommended repeatedly. Headed out a little past lunchtime today, hopefully to beat or to miss any crowds, I remembered on the way that our local newspaper does not put out a Monday edition so I decided to swing by the library and pick up a Flagpole magazine. I got all the way to the library before realizing that it's a Federal holiday and the library is closed. Very disappointing. I stopped at a convenient store on the way and picked up on Atlanta paper. I don't really like the Atlanta paper, they don't have the puzzles I like, and they don't have very many comics. I got to the restaurant and there were only two or three cars in the parking lot. I wasn't really surprised because it was almost 2 PM when I got there, so I didn't expect it to be very crowded. The server wasted no time getting me seated and gave me a table near the window, with plenty of light so I could read my paper. She was fast talking, fast walking, super friendly, and a great personality. We laughed and laughed. I looked over the menu just in case but as I said, I already knew that I wanted a catfish plate. It came with the standard coleslaw and fries and hush puppies and that was just fine with me. They have a nice patio out back with a few games . One thing that surprised me was the game room they had in the back of the dining room. They had quite a few good games in there. It's a definite plus for this place. It didn't take long to get my food. First, I'll talk about the catfish they were three pretty good size fillets and they were fat and cooked perfectly. Delicious! Sadly I didn't care for the fries. They were an odd color like maybe they were seasoned but they didn't taste seasoned. They taste like they were cooked in dirty oil. I won't order those again. The hush puppies were the same. They were small, kind of hard and tasted like they were cooked in dirty grease. I will never order those again either. The coleslaw I'm kind of on the fence with. I prefer the large, chunkier cut vegetables. This slaw seem like it was almost creamed, the flavor was OK but I didn't care for the texture. I won't be ordering the slaw again. I'm sorry to say I was a little disappointing with my meal at Classic City Eats. I came for catfish and loved loved loved it. The rest of the meal was mediocre at best. I'll try different sides next time. I will come here again. They have a lot of stuff on their menu and some of it looks pretty interesting. I've shared some photos of their menus so check it out and see if there's anything that you would like.

We love to meet family and friends there, share good food, and eat outdoors in good weather. * Food :Best fresh ingredients. Large portions. Good price. Personnel: helpful, efficient Facility: The restaurant building has been here so long it's a classic, well-loved part of the community, on a busy corner outside the main Athens area. Not new, but well kept, clean, and cheerful. Not new, but well kept, with nicely spaced tables & booths inside. Both covered seating , and open seating outside. Family friendly. Outside has lovely old tall, tall cypress trees along the side. like you see in Italy. They have added new little cypress trees in pots in the front so you can see how the tall ones began. The adjacent parking lot is usually ample. Location: Although it is outside the busy main area of Athens, it's a quick drive and well worth the trip. It's near the state botanical garden if you want to enjoy another Athens treasure before or after you eat. * * The only complaint we have is the addition of loud music after the new management took over -it's worse inside, so you can have conversations more easily outside if the weather permits.

Rather than the past thin, tender crust, it's now twice as thick (not their sicilian style) and is like a tough piece of bread with toppings. I'm so disappointed. It was crowded so I expected some delays. We sat outside, enjoyed great conversation, and appreciated the relaxed atmosphere while we waited. Unfortunately, one of their ovens went down during our visit, so our food took longer than expected. The staff handled it as best they could, and once the food arrived, it was definitely worth the wait. Our group tried a little bit of everything--wings, the Parmigiana Chicken Hoagie, garlic knots, and several pizzas. Bonus: they had a gluten free pizza option. The Walter White pizza was absolutely incredible, packed with flavor, and The Meathead lived up to its name--fully loaded with meat and delicious. Despite the delay, the variety, quality, and overall vibe made it a solid experience. We'll be back!

He was great, charismatic, and incredibly patient with my indecisiveness. The menu is vast and the food delicious. I don't think you could go wrong with anything on the menu. There is something for everyone! Mom started with her Pineapple Jalapeno margarita--perfect tang, just a tad salty for her taste. Our entrees were the best part of our evening. The Texas fajitas were sizzling throughout our dinner. The steak was cooked to perfection, the shrimp were seasoned perfectly, and the presentation was impressive. The rice and tortillas felt and tasted authentic. The Churrasco Steak was new and certainly a worthy addition to the menu. The steak was a hearty, tender 8oz, great for the price. The chimichurri was good and paired nicely with the vegetables (just a little too oily). The plantains and rice were a great offset and paired nicely with everything. Just a beautiful evening with a nice breeze, satisfying food, and delightful service.

They frequent this joint every Friday. Talk about a loyal group of people! It was busy tonight. There were quite a few of us tonight but our server got our tables handled. He started us off with our drinks. I ordered a peach mango virgin margarita tonight. After drinks were passed out, dinner orders were taken. Our server handled business! He got all off our orders squared away and then refilled drinks, chips and salsa dishes. My peach mango margarita was so good! I was perfectly salted on the rim. The margarita was flavorful with peach and mango. It took a lot out of me not to suck the whole thing down in one drink. The flavoring was the best when you licked threw salt and then took a drink. So yummy! I ordered the shredded beef flautas for dinner. I got 3 chunky flautas covered in fresh lettuce, cojita and sour cream. My side of rice and beans looked super tasty! My flautas were perfectly crunchy with tender and savory beef in the middle. The ultimate bite was the flauta, lettuce, cojita and sour cream together. So good! I ate too much of the chips, cheese dip and salsa so I only had 2 of the 3 flautas. It was a hearty meal! The cheese dip is money so order the cheese dip! You won't regret it! We ended dinner with a fried ice cream. The size of this ice cream is no joke! I love the heavy dusting of cinnamon on top of the ice cream and whipped cream. The corn flakes were sweet and chewy. The ice cream was creamy! The perfect bite was the ice cream, corn flakes and some with the cinnamon dusted whipped cream. A fantastic treat after dinner! I did notice the gentleman next to me eat something called Bobby's plate. It's grilled veggies with a piece of grilled chicken, a plate named after a customer after he passed. It was his specific meal he ate all the time. That is what I'll be having next year! I had such a fun time tonight and a fantastic dinner. Looking forward to next year's fiesta!

We have ordered takeout here a handful of times. We've been shorted something from our order about…read more50% of those times. This most recent experience, though, is so egregious that we won't go back. Let me start with recognizing they were slammed. I get it. It's why we typically order takeout and don't try to eat there. We've given up on ordering taco plates or premade tacos because by the time you get them home the shells are soggy and gross on account of the way they package them. (Just a thought: maybe wrap individual hard shelled in foil rather than put them in a container that traps moisture and heat....) Anyway, we now order the tacos with each element packaged separately - all the meat in a container, all the cheese in a container, etc. etc.. Everything else, soft shelled included, we order as is. Maybe it's a pain for them? Maybe doing it this way makes them mad? I don't know. Regardless, we ordered 14 a la cart hard shelled and two soft, four plain chicken and cheese quesadillas. See picture of what they gave us for the 16 tacos, each one priced out at $4. There's plenty of shredded iceberg lettuce.....but this is not meat for 14 tacos. In addition to that, they shorted us the two soft steak tacos and one quesadilla. Our tab for TAKEOUT BEFORE ANY KIND OF TIP was $102. That is shameful to begin with, but when coupled with them shorting us $16 worth of food and literally pushing us out the door (yes, physically pushing) because of how busy they were, it's absolutely enraging. If they are too busy to double check to go orders and/or too busy to allow paying takeout customers to check their own orders, they need to have more staff on duty. Why isn't someone checking orders to ensure accuracy?!! We live 15 minutes from there. Going back wasn't an option. Calling wasn't an option because they were slammed. My husband is the kind of guy who almost never gets upset, particularly in situations like this. You have to really do something bad to get him to blow up. Success, La Parrilla Taqueria!!! You have achieved that honor. He will never spend another dime at your establishment. From now on we'll just have to go down the street to your competitor and have their always-perfect empanadas, fantastic service, and reasonable prices. Ciao!
