Our dinner turned out to be a happy accident. When our restaurant suddenly had to close, we made a quick call to The Chop House to see if they could accommodate our last minute need for a table. It was our anniversary, and they were happy to have us come in. We had a great table over looking the river and the service was perfect. Very friendly and attentive without being intrusive or annoying. Very nice menu and our food was amazing. The steaks were cooked to perfection. The sides, Twice baked potato, grilled asparagus and three cheese macaroni were fantastic. The piano player was a very nice touch. The open airy space made for a very comfortable and inviting area. We've been here a few times and the ambiance, food, drinks, service is always on point. This time we ordered the shrimp and lobster appetizer and the shrimp cocktail. I tried one of their house cocktails and was wowed by the flavor. When eating food, they always serve the Parmesan stuffed pop overs with butter and it just melts in your mouth. Very high end experience if your coming expect to pay about 100 a person we were being pretty conservative didn't order drinks just water and pop 1 appetizer 2 lobster bisque a wellington, chops and 2 sides the smashed potatoes there was enough for a few people and asparagus. We got the banana fosters creme brulee for dessert spent 240 before tip. So yeah high end experience full white glove treatment plates and silverware being exchanged throughout the courses. Ate at the chop house for the first time last night. Our table host Rob was awesome - very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and products, and his recommendations were perfect. I had the aged NY strip, asparagus and wild mushrooms, and the banana foster creme brulee.. all were excellent, and the presentation great. The pianist was a perfect topping to a great night. Plan on $100-125 a person for full course meal with drinks. This was not a meal, it was an experience. Went there as a group. One of the steaks in the beef Wellington was bad, tasted spoiled. To make matters worse, I contracted norovirus and had bad stomach cramping and diarrhea due to this place. Prices are way too high here it isn't worth it, try way too hard to be upscale and they miss the mark. Other food was good in group but not worth the price by all means not worth getting this sick either with stabbing cramps. Go elsewhere it's not worth all the hype you'd think it was, I've had much better quality food at a much better price point. This place is ridiculously overpriced and not up to par on their menu as they portray the best quality meats and seafood, it's gimmicky. Love your guts instead, they'll thank you instead of toppling over in pain from stabbing cramps and acid reflux waking you up choking when you finally were able to sleep, the burn in my throat is awful . Chop House Toledo never disappoints! Our food was amazing. I had the Beef Wellington (only place in Toledo that makes it with foie gras)..hubby had the cowboy steak. Au gratin potatoes, and peanut butter tart dessert. Everything was perfection! Of course, regardless of how amazing the food is, It just isn't the same without superior customer service. Rob is our go-to waiter and he is always on point and treats us like VIP, he's the BEST! Paul was shadowing him and we know he will be amazing; Johnny also made our experience wonderful. Time to enjoy the Chop House again Haven't been in a while and decided to trek to downtown toledo and try the chop house again. The sweet valet picked up my car,and parked for me. How great that service is when driving up to the Summit Street entrance. Dre at the bar served a country club pour and welcomed me with enthusiasm. The pear salad with blue cheese, walnuts and raisins was an innovative change with spinach, and was enough to split among two diners. Sierra popped by with a popover and enuf butter to bathe in. Next, tried the lamb lollipops. Cooked perfectly MR and there were 4 in the appetizer portion. Enough to share, and if you dine solo, plenty for dinner. Piano player was delightful live music, so rare these days. Excellent ambience. Checking everyone and everything was Alec, the GM, who was attending to all the details and insuring every visitor was getting premier service. She had the perfect level of engagement, enough to learn she was in college with a neuroscience major/premed and that we were celebrating a birthday, but knew when to let us get back to drinks, appetizers, eating or dessert. This is based off one visit but the seating staff was also very nice. *The interior design was modern but not overdone. *Menu: Steak, Seafood and chicken dishes and a nice assortment of appetizers. Middle/OK (+\-) *The restaurant itself is in the Promedica building. The entrance is shared making it seem its part if something else. Not a showstopper but for a restaurant of this quality a stand alone, even if in the bottom of another building would seem better. This is being a bit picky but some higher priced restaurants have a better exterior visual and entrance. Minus (-) *The Price: $100 minimum each if you have steak. *The food quality. Most people that go to these restaurants understand the price is high as the environment is very nice, service is excellent and food is great leaving a memorable experience. The appetizer, calamari was good. The dessert was good. The smashed potato and Brussels sprouts were not bad. The steak was cooked properly but the flavor lacked significantly. We had surf and turf and both variants of NY Strip. To be fair we just ate at Peter Lugers in NYC in May, but if I think about meals I have had at Mancy's, Rockwell's and even Longhorn Steakhouse, its was much better. Second time trying The chop house and it's still meh. Ambiance is nice. Went on a Friday evening and there was live piano music. The bar was full I assume for HH. Speaking of which the $8 wine pours were very generous. Considering a glass of wine typically costs $18 here, $8 is a steal. I had the oysters and shrimp cocktail for starters. VERY good. The shrimp were plump and on the HH menu. The sauce that comes with the oysters was phenomenal. Now for the bad....for a steak place they don't do them well. I only went this particular evening because I noticed beef Wellington on the menu. It came out rare. When I inquired the waitress stated they do more of a rare +/medium - thing and it could be placed back in the oven. *blink blink* Gordon Ramsey would not stand for this and neither did I. Overall the apps are good and very generous wine pours but save your time and try out anywhere else in downtown Toledo. The Chop House was the "Bees Knees!!!" Bees Knees is what I read on their signature drinks menu, but the first thing that crossed my mind was the similarity of how Bees Knees sounds quite like the urban term, "Bizness." The last place I've experienced state of the art hospitality was in Austria -- Al Borgo. I noticed the small details of how the wait staff strategically served each course. My ultimate favorite was the table-side preparations of certain dishes such as the Lobster Bisque; Dover Sole (fish); and the Spanish Coffee. My partner and I came here for our 2 year anniversary. Dawn, our server, was so incredibly sweet and took great care of us. We split salad, soup, our steak and some sides and had plenty leftover for the next day. I loved that the menu included photos of each item. The interior was absolutely stunning with live piano music and a beautiful riverfront view. We had the house salad and they added pears for us - a perfect touch and complement to the goat cheese. The soup was definitely really filling and I didn't have much room left when the main courses were rolling around. We split the filet mignon with a specialty coffee-rub on it that night that we really enjoyed. Elegance, yet sub par food for even a chain restaurant. So let's start with the positives. My party of 5 on Easter was immediately seated. Waters filled throughout our visit. Everyone that took care of us was very friendly. When the soups/salads and entrees came out, 5 servers simultaneously delivered our 5 plates. Very elegant. On the down side, should have seen the foreshadowing when our waiter dropped one of the rolls on the floor before it could get to the plate. Then had the lobster bisque. They mix the soup with a dollup of lobster meat in your bowl at the table. The soup was excellent, but the lobster was surprisingly fishy. For dinner, I had the cowboy ribeye medium with 2 sea scallops. The steak was closer to well done. When I asked if that was what they called medium, the waiter immediately removed my plate (which also had my scallops and lobster mac and cheese) to have the steak remade. Came back a few minutes later with a small plate that was my remaining scallop (now cold) and mac and cheese. The replacement steak came out some time later cooked rare. I just asked for a box and said I would finish it (cooking and eating) at home. Incidentally, both steaks were much tougher than I would have expected at such a nice joint. Also, the lobster mac and cheese is a good idea, but I think they forgot the cheese. It was more like lobster gulash. Glad I tried it, but won't be coming back anytime soon. read more

Ambiance at Christmas time-fantastic!! Not too busy but our waiter was busy with a couple large parties so he didn't check on us much. Couldn't get our water glasses filled, even though he said he would be back with water. To be honest, restaurants of this caliber and price should have a policy of anyone filling your glass. Not the attitude that its not their table. Food was average for the price, my son ordered rare blue steak but was med-rare. We waited forever for our food, with the waiter apologizing for the delay which might be why the food was warm and the steak over cooked. The presentation was beautiful, but there was no way to find our waiter for issues. Valet parking was a blessing, staff friendly, iPad menu with pictures was a great idea. We were able to make a reservation on the same day. We arrived and the hostess took our coat and hang them for us. Nice touch. We arrived for our reservation and saw that happy hour was going on, however you could not order at the table to get the happy hour drink prices, which we found it rude. Happy hour should apply to the whole establishment. Seems pretty petty considering they are making 80% profit on their drinks. We might have been inclined to order a cocktail prior to our dinner wine. But we didn't. The food was very good, we enjoyed the mushrooms, tenderloin tips and calamari to start. Came here to celebrate our daughter's birthday and they did an amazing job of making all of us feel special. We had called ahead of time and they had a bottle of Prosecco chilling at the table. The menu is on an iPad with pictures of the various items which helps if you're visual. The lobster bisque was creamy and flavorful with pieces of lobster. The pear salad is great but the dressing didn't have much flavor. The sous vide tenderloin was perfect. The sides are enough for 4-6 people depending on your appetite. It should be noted that this place is expensive...over $200 for two people, and that is with one glass of wine, two regular cocktails and no appetizers except salads. I got beef Wellington and it was AMAZING, practically melts in your mouth. They give you one piece of bread/roll with cheese in it, and It was delish. I would have loved a few more of them! The not so good: my dinner companion got scallops, which is something they order a lot at many other establishments. They were not impressed...said the sauce on them was overwhelming and that it wasn't very good and was all they could taste. Actually said "it would have been better if they were plain scallops and no sauce". My house salad was fine, but the cheese on it was not my cup of tea. It was a pretty mediocre salad to be honest. We also got the lobster Mac and cheese which was astonishingly not good. (Think Kraft Mac and cheese with lobster flavoring, but almost no actual lobster in it). Lovely restaurant in downtown with a view of the river and 280 bridge. The food and service were very good, both of our steaks were seasoned well and cooked just slightly under our asking temperatures, but we didn't mind that so much. The Au Gratin potatoes and the Mushroom side dishes were excellent, probably the best things we had all night as they were cooked perfectly and the Au Gratin potato is more buttery and cheesy than creamy (which we prefer). The only real letdown was was the apps, the lobster and shrimp bites were decent, but nothing amazing, and the calamari was good, but again, not amazing. The chop hose is a place that everyone should add to their bucket list of places to go!! From the covered parking you immediately see the river and the grand stair Case leading up to the beautiful entrance inside the building. The ambiance of the restaurant is very beautiful with the air of steakhouses of old mixed with a modern touch, along with abstract pictures of cows (I guess to remind you it's a steak house?) and beautiful soaring ceilings and expansive views of the high level bridge (which also puts on a light show for you as you dine!!) We were served by Franchesca who was terrific at explaining the choices, taking the orders and delivering the entrees timed perfectly with a team of servers placing our food with warmed plates in front of us exactly at the same time. Our menu was an iPad that allowed you to see the pictures of each dish and the results matched perfectly. First off Franchesca brought out what looked like regular dinner rolls but turned out to be a surprise tapioca popover tat that was absolutely fantastic!! Then we moved onto beef tenderloin tips served on tiny toast along with lamb lollipops served on a bed of sprig lettuce and goat cheese. Both were fantastic in presentation and taste. The next stage was the roasted beet salad and French onion soup. Both really solid ..... tasted great and presented well. The main course was the porterhouse for two along with sides of Au-gratin potatoes, mushrooms and asparagus. The sides were awesome but the steak was EPIC!!!!!!!!!!! I highly recommend ordering this!!! It was done to perfection!! We ordered medium "push" and it came out perfectly. The finale was a chocolate melt cake and bananas foster bread pudding. Both looked so pretty we didn't want to eat them but once we did we couldn't stop because they were so delicious!! There was enough left over to last a couple more lunches this week and I'm looking forward to it. Stopped in for my birthday dinner this month because: 1. we hadn't been there but have heard good things and 2. Main Street Ventures (the restaurant group operating this establishment along with others like Real Seafood and Ciao's) offers free birthday meals. We arrived reasonably early around 5:30 on a weeknight and were promptly seated with a spectacular view of the Promedica headquarters as well as the recently redeveloped Promenade Park. Kind of like visiting the Heights next door, it offers a one of a kind view of a completely redeveloped section of Downtown Toledo. If you've got the coin, this would be an impressive first date. Our server was SUPER friendly and attentive and grabbed our nicely mixed drinks. Dinner itself was FANtastic. I ordered not only the crab & lobster cake that comes two to a plate, each one quite big as well as a side of the crab gnocchi which was over the top decadent and offered crab up completely differently than the cakes. This birthday boy was mighty pleased with himself. So was wife as it was the first time she'd ordered a Waygu steak. Even at well done (tsk tsk I know) she said it was super tender with the side of bearnaise sauce. As the restaurant started filling up, our once attentive waiter was MIA. He briefly swung by to drop off the check and while I was pulling out my wallet I also was ordering us a Lyft car home. My phone said the driver was 10 minutes away so without panic I took a look at my receipt for dinner. With my entree free, it still came in at $150 so with a tip it came in right around $190. 2 entrees, 1 side, 4 drinks and no apps or dessert for just under $200 in Downtown Toledo! Daaaaaaaaaaang! And it took over 10 minutes for them to come to cash me out. :/ The restaurant was packed, so good for them making it work! I'm sure rent in that space comes at a premium and if there is an audience for those prices, I guess that's a great thing? But not for me. I loved the food but could have gotten 2 or 3 meals for 2 at Mancy's for the price. Was this better? Yeah, I think it was. But was it worth it? I'm not sure. I love fine dining, and I am happy to pay for it, but there are a TON of great restaurants in Toledo, much more reasonably priced. I'll consider spending my steakhouse money elsewhere going forward but will be more than happy if someone offers to take me out on a date to the Chop House! read more

My first experience at the Chop House. The staff was friendly. We had some unfortunate delays as they had a a rush of people that had just left before before I arrived. The staff made up for the delays in ordering and a mis-entered side dish. The manager without prompt from me apologized for my delay and ensured I had a fabulous dessert. The food was fabulous. Beef Wellington is difficult to make bait it was made to perfection! And the twice baked potato was twice to die for! My husband brought me here for our 9th wedding anniversary and when I tell you it was the best dining experience ever! This was our first time coming here and it will not be the last. Our server came and gave us these tablets which are actually your menu. It gives the opportunity to see pictures and a description of the menu items which I really loved. We started with the crab and lobster cakes which were so good. We then ordered some drinks, I had a margarita and it was made to perfection. We then had caesar salads and our server gave us this little bread muffin thing I forgot the name of it but it was ok(I'm not a big pastry fan). Our waiter was on point with everything, he knew when to come and when to come back. He was very helpful with deciding on what entree to order and just overall very good. I ordered the NY Strip Steak(not the aged one) with added jumbo shrimp with the Cognac Peppercorn. It was so good I can still taste it! My husband got the lamb chops with add on jumbo shrimp and we shared an order of garlic mashed potatoes and lobster mac n cheese. They give you very generous portions so be prepared to take a doggy bag. This is definitely a restaurant you want to add to your list, superb service and great food.
