I honestly would have never known this place existed until a friend had a pop up there that was next door (apparently they own this space too and they just store bags of dog food in there). The actual location is in pearl city near zippys but all the way in the back of the parking lot. You honestly would not even know it existed unless you come around this area often (to get zippys maybe?) Theres lots of parking fronting the store which is helpful and the store itself is really small. The shop owner keeps her dog in the front of the store - so if you have a reactive dog then it might be best to keep them at home if you visit here. read more

Jackie is flat- out on the ball! She know her stuff like a dietician. We have two Fox Red English Labradors who get walked daily one to two miles in the sand on the North Shore. There are a few swims chasing sticks too. Still, they were getting heavy. A neighbor recommended going to the Chow Hound. Jackie gave us some samples to try and the dogs liked them. I know Labs will eat about anything but let's say they were more enthusiastic about the new food vs. what they had been getting from a "large retailer." As to the person who complained about bugs in something, . . . seriously? Aloha, welcome to Hawaii. Things come on ships; bugs happen. Take it back for a replacement. Bugs aren't the store's fault. My boyfriend always stops here and spends hundreds upon hundreds of dollars on dog treats for our Labrador but this last purchase was 100% regrettable. Among buying plenty of cow tails, bully sticks, braided pork esophaguses and other various treats for our dog we started seeing what looked like hide worms. We had never seen or had one appear until around the day we brought the treats home from Chow Hound. Upon inspecting the treats, we found an infestation of what I believe are hide worms/beetles! We immediately took the following pic and video before quickly throwing the remaining treats and pork esophaguses away. I had to clean and sanitize the entire house and I hope my dog doesn't become ill by having likely ingested some of these bugs. We will never buy anything from this place, again. read more

Came on a Saturday when the store had multiple customers so that personalized shopping experience many other people raved about was non existent. I just browsed around and applaud this shop for having so many smaller, not as popular pet brands available. Yelp 100 Review Challenge 2015: 94/100 Wow, coming here is one of the best decisions I have ever made for my dog, Wes (along with changing his vet from VCA, but thats another review of its own). I called the owner while at work in town and gave her a general background on my dog and she told me to come on in. I informed her, with Hawaii traffic, I may not make it in time for they close at 6pm. She said not to worry, she would be there. Sure enough she was, about 30 minutes before closing. After she assisted another customer she gave her full attention to us as she asked questions to suggest the best remedies. She definitely doesn't try to sell you on anything, only what you need and only the best quality. Even after 6pm (closing time) passed she continues to serve us and did not rush us. Not only did I learn new things about dog's health but after my purchase she gave me free samples to try with my dog since I was deciding on switching from Blue Buffalo. I just spent an hour at The Chow Hound in Pearl City with the owner named Jackie. She had amazing customer service and listened intently to my concerns about my dog's health and allergy issues. After much discussion and suggestions, we decided to try to change Nahla's dog food because that may be the allergen culprit. She gave me a bag, literally a bag FULL, of different Avoderm samples to try and see what she likes. She also gave me samples of grain-free treats and kelp, which is really what I went there because my cousin recommended it for Nahla's condition. I was so ecstatic with the attention Jackie gave me and the care she had for my dog. She asked tons of questions to gauge if there were any other issues and gave me suggestions on other things to look out for and other methods to try. She is truly so knowledgable, I can't see myself ever shopping at another Pet Store again. I highly recommend the Chow Hound! Don't shop anywhere else! I was looking at the wall of treats and she gave me some recommendations based on my dog's size, breed, and temperament (I have a Shiba Inu, he can be picky!) and we've been coming back ever since! My senior citizen Pomeranian has hip & joint issues on his right side. Jackie recommended a natural product made here locally in Hawaii . It's a liquid spray on food, so it's very easy to give your dog if they are adverse to pills, or have any dietary issues, etc. which my boy is very picky, so finding the right product has been challenging. I don't like to give him anything that isn't natural as nature intended our creatures to eat from nature... Real food. Anyways, I was adding the suggested amount on the bottle for his weight range. The owner is very friendly and gives great customer service! They carry EVO here. Always come back here because she's the one of the few places that carry EVO! This place is located in the same shopping center as Genki Sushi and Zippys Waimalu. She also carries Earthborn and California Natural which are the brands that a lot of my friends feed their pets which you can't find in your regular pet stores as well. She has the best treats where you can scoop your own and I believe she charges by the pound. It's a small store but has pretty much everything you need for your pets. Go check it out... Their variety of dog food is good, the cost is not astronomical and they have a good variety of treats that are healthy for dogs. Jackie is the best and has lots a good advice and very easy to talk to. The best part is that they will give you samples of dog food to try or if you buy a bag and your dog doesn't enjoy it you are able to do a return. I haven't been here in over a year, but stepping back in- it's like it was yesterday since last stopping by. I was looking for treats to give our doggies... When we leave for work early in the morning, I've been giving them a variety of goodies to keep them happy and occupied while we sneak out the door. No more! Stopped by for the first time yesterday... Owner was really helpful. I adopted an almost one year old pit terrier and needed to find some food for my baby girl. Owner explained to me the needs of my breed and the benefits of different nutrients. I went with some Evo based on the protein content.
