    Love-A-Bowl

I love an acai bowl! This cute place is tucked away in Downtown Highland Park. I had no clue what to order and I deferred to the cashier to please tell me what the most popular item was. She recommended the Love-a-Bowl and it was A. Beautiful and B. Delicious! I will say it was also C. Expensive at $16. I'm not too shocked though. That's par for the course at these types of places. It was a great bowl - definitely worth the splurge to treat yourself.

When in need for a healthy treat, we are sure to find it among works of art at Bright Bowls. Located in downtown Highland Park, just by sunset foods. Tucked in a small strip if you're not looking for it. There is plenty of complimentary parking. When you walk in, you're greeted with bright lights, and colorful art. We came by on a Saturday and there was a birthday party/dance party going on in their studio. So it was busier than usual, but it didn't affect the quickness of us receiving our order. We walked in and looked at the menu and around for a little bit before we decided on the Pitaya The Tiger bowl. Which has a Pitaya base with blueberries, banana, pineapple and mango, topped with banana, blueberries and bright granola sprinkled with bee pollen. The swirl was blue spirulina and coconut yogurt. When we received our bowl, it was almost too pretty to eat. It was like artwork! The base was super smooth, with the fruit and granola each bite was delicious, not too sweet, not too bitter. We already can't wait to get another bowl of art soon.

As gorgeous as it is delicious.

Best smoothies on the North Shore! High quality, fresh ingredients. Plus the owners are just the nicest people.

He did find a table and during the course of our meal there were non-stop arrivals with a few heading straight to the small bar so I'm thinking perhaps it has a strong flow of regular customers. The service was efficient and the dining room has a cozy bistro feel to it. The menu is seasonal. Nothing was calling out to me so I went with the burger and fries. Both were good. Overall we are glad we gave Pixca a try. Before we go again we'll make a reservation and check the menu to see what the current options are.

We arrived very early at a random time, probably right after opening. Everyone was so nice and service was great. The table started with the cornbread, moist and warm. Not as sweet as I personally like (I can't help it I'm southern) but delicious nonetheless. The eggplant hummus wasn't that great to me, loved the bread it came with but I think I would prefer typical chickpea hummus instead. Brussels were so good, probably the favorite thing I tried. For my entree I had a kale salad with added salmon. I liked the crunch and the light vinaigrette. My husband had the seafood risotto which was slightly undercooked. All and all a positive experience and I'd definitely go back if I was in the area.

We had plenty of room and it was nice to have delicious beer, good food, and a pleasant view of this part of Highland Park. I've been here before when it had a different name, but it seems like little has changed. This is a well warn bar! Comfy seats at the bar and a smattering of booths and table with a homey feel - lots of wood and available light from the large front window. This is not a huge room by any means but it never felt crowded. Our group had mostly apps like guac and chips and a quesadilla or two. I tried a Kolsch lager and a Marzen lager both if which were a little cheaper than usual due to the Happy Hour Special of $5 a beer. Margaritas are $6 at Happy Hour. The beer was very good! We had a great waiter and being seated just a few feet from the bar meant no one went thirsty or hungry for long. On past visits I was seated on the back patio but we had rain on this most recent visit, and it's also March! (Patio season does not start in the Chicago area for at least another month or month and a half!) The patio is a nice little wood fenced in area with lots of tables and a back tap bar. Not sure if that set-up is still the same.... This is a great local bar with a lot of rustic, homey charm. I'd definitely recommend if you want good local beer in a friendly old-school bar.

We ordered the nachos for an appetizer. They were good without being too spicy. Then I ordered the pulled pork with sweet potato fries as an entrée. I loved the barbecue flavor and onion ring.
