Lumberjack with 2 Eggs, Ham, Bacon and Sausage

If you're driving, be aware the parking lot is small so you may have to park and walk over if you don't feel like waiting for a spot. When I walked in there were a lot of people waiting but I overheard the wait was 5 minutes for a party of 2 so it sounds like the table turnover is fast. Since I was solo, I sat at the bar where there was plenty of seating available. I ordered the Lumberjack breakfast and it was hearty! So much so that I had to take some of my pancakes home because I couldn't finish them. It's been a few hours and I'm still full. Nice bang for my buck! The staff was friendly and attentive. I'll be back to try the French toast which I heard was good.

We came here for breakfast as a group of four and had a great start to the day. The staff were very friendly and attentive, and the service felt warm and welcoming throughout our meal. The portions were generous--classic diner style--and everything came out hot and satisfying. From the French toast and pancakes with bacon to the eggs Benedict and breakfast sandwich, there was plenty to enjoy. Coffee refills were quick, which we appreciated. The retro interior has a cozy, nostalgic charm, and the booths get lots of natural light in the morning. Another convenient touch: they have their own parking lot, which makes stopping by much easier. A dependable spot for a hearty breakfast. We'd happily return!

This was a solid experience for a diner! The food was wonderful and exactly as expected. The service was quick, friendly, and efficient. The diner itself was very clean and had an old school diner feel. If I'm in Richmond Hill again, I'll most certainly be back!

My wife and I had breakfast here on a Tuesday. The restaurant is clean and well-staffed. The coffee is good and hot and the food was served quickly and correctly. We really enjoyed our meals here.

Wow. $50 for one omelette with toast, two eggs up with side of bacon, 1 toasted muffin and 2 coffees. Prices were just raised two weeks ago. There's no reason for that. Their prices were on the high side as it was. Service is good. Same staff. Always a good sign. And food is good. Not arguing with quality or quantity. But those prices are outrageous. Two stars for heavy price increase. Will not return again so soon. And was our favorite diner.

The classic diner definitely lives up to its name. There's no bells or whistles here, just classic hearty breakfasts done very well. The parking lot is really small and narrowly shaped but there's plenty of street parking nearby. We ordered: * Breakfast Quesadilla ($15.50) * Irish Breakfast ($15.95) * Farmer's Omelette ($14.95) * Cheese Blintzes ($12.95) * Large Orange Juice ($4.50) spent roughly $80 with tip. Service here was great, we had a kind server and staff was on point with refilling coffee (which was freshly brewed and not burnt!) I loved my breakfast quesadilla. The mushrooms and jalapeños with the grilled chicken breast covered in mozzarella goodness kept me full all morning. I love how it comes with sour cream, mild salsa, and guacamole. The cheese blintzes were great, it was a good mixture of salty, sweet, and savory, especially when you pair it with the sour cream or applesauce or a combination of both. The rest of my party enjoyed their Irish breakfast and Farmer's Omelette. I would love to come back here for breakfast again!

Ask the Community - The Classic Diner

Is there outdoor seating due to COVID 19?

Yes. There are two rows of tables, with umbrellas, on the sidewalk that goes along the side of the diner. They look like they'd seat enough patrons at any time.

    Is there parking?

    Yes, plus street parking.

I really enjoyed lunch at this place! They've recently rebranded to Austin Street Cafe/Bar & Grill…read more- and they have a sort of diner-esque vibe with a full-service bar ($7 happy hour cocktails!!!) They started us off with a croissant on the house, which was pretty good. Nice attention to detail as it was served with a heart-shaped side of butter. Also part of their happy hour menu are a couple select bar bites. I went for the chicken quesadillas, and it was a hearty portion at their price point. And it had a great flavor - chicken was nice and juicy. Natalie was our server, and was very attentive and friendly throughout our time here. And just when we thought it couldn't get better, Natalie and the manager brought us some cookies on the house to take home. Nothing but praise to be sung about this spot - I hear they're looking into possibly incorporating live music next. Will definitely be back - two thumbs up!

I heard him making jokes with customers and asking people for feedback. Now to the rest of it: service is weird and slow. When we were seated, we had to wait a little bit until receiving menus. Water wasn't automatically given to us also, so you have to ask. A woman took down our order, but later asked if we got waffles, even though I said pancakes - overall took 25 minutes to get our order of a salad and pancakes. Pancake platter came with two pancakes, two eggs, and a couple berries on the side. There's also an option to add sausage or bacon but no price there, which adds to the confusion. When we pointed it out, they removed the charge from our bill. There were maybe 3 people who stood behind the coffee bar which is kind of around a corner, making it hard to get service if you're not in their field of vision. Kind of strange there isn't a clear welcoming desk or something like that. Also, I think the menu uses AI as photos - there's a picture of a burger with fries and chips, but I don't think they serve chips. There's also a picture of cake with garlic next to it, which could be an artistic choice. We didn't get any drinks, but there was a table next to us who abandoned their full cups of Nutella lattes which was interesting.

I loved the old school aesthetic from the outside and all the details on the inside. THE BETTY BOOPSSSSS are the absolute best! I could not get enough. Didn't take too long for a table, maybe 15 minutes. It's popular for those who know. We got seated in the back. Out waiter was nice but new so there was a couple miscommunications but it was all good. He was in training. Judging by the people around us, they knew what they wanted. They came over and gave us pickles for the table. My sister was not a fan, so I did not partake. The father/son duo next to us got entrees but shared pancakes and the son got a milkshake. I think next time, I need to take their lead. I got a fish filet sandwich and my sister for a tuna salad sandwich with fries. I had potato salad but her fries were better. My sandwich was yummy on a brioche role and avocado slices. I loved it. I really can't wait to return. I told everyone I know about this place! May it last for many more decades ahead! Anyway, we shared mozzarella sticks that were quite delicious. I say this because I am not a fan, but did enjoy these because they were crispy, light and a little buttery. The marinara sauce was well seasoned, and worthy of a nice pasta. Everything tasted fresh and homemade. We finished with burgers, which were quite large, filling and tasty. There are many burger options but I chose to build my own. I could only eat half but enjoyed it with half steak fries/half onion rings. The burger was not over seasoned, juicy, thick and cooked perfectly. It was so good ketchup was unnecessary. The menu has many options that I would not mind coming back to try out. I dine here frequently, so I am familiar with the typical portion sizes. The meal I received was noticeably smaller than what is normally served. To the server's credit, she acknowledged the issue and offered to have it corrected without hesitation. The more concerning issue involved my friend, who politely requested plastic utensils. She was told they were only available for takeout orders. Due to a medical condition, she does not use reusable utensils in restaurants. We have never encountered this issue at any other restaurant. As a result, we were unable to comfortably dine in. When I spoke with the manager, I explained that refusing a reasonable accommodation was inappropriate. His response was, "You never told me that," referring to my friend's medical condition. To be clear, customers should not be expected to disclose or justify their private medical information in order to receive a simple accommodation. We ultimately packed up our food and left because no effort was made to resolve the situation. Additionally, I had placed a separate takeout order before all of this occurred, but it was never entered into the system. When the check arrived, I was confused as to why the order was missing. To make matters worse, I was informed that I could not order an item from the children's menu as a takeout meal for my daughter. This policy was surprising, as I have never experienced such a restriction at any other restaurant. Overall, this was a very disappointing visit. While I appreciate that the server was willing to correct my meal, the lack of reasonable accommodation, poor communication, and multiple service issues left us with a negative experience. I hope management takes these concerns seriously and reevaluates both their policies and their approach to customer service.
