You know that feeling you get when you're heading to one of those restaurants that's been on your "Foodie Bucket List" for a while? Definitely was there as we headed to Denton to try out this "All You Can Eat Buffet", supposedly loaded with Southern cooking gems. The written reviews are very positive for the most part, and I talked to an individual that loves the place, even chose it for his birthday dinner. Seemed safe, but once again anticipation proved to be greater than realization. The restaurant is a little awkwardly laid out, resulting in a maze like sensation as you head to the main seating area in the back. Once there, the restaurant is rather large and open, but there is little soft and fuzzy here, rather functional and with little comfort in the seating area, literally. The buffet is in a rectangular segment near a side wall, and the quarters are somewhat close, putting skilled maneuvering at a bit of a premium. The buffet is fairly large, with the meats offered today being, Fried Chicken, Baked Ham (coarse chopped into chunks), Steak & Gravy, Country Ham, Fried Pork Chops, and even Fried Fat Back! Corn Bread and Biscuits were on the buffet too. The vegetables included Corn, Lima Beans, Mashed Potatoes (not home made), Pintos, Field Peas, and Fried Okra. There is a salad bar, with greens, some raw veggies, potato salad, pasta salad, etc. The only salad dressings available were Ranch & Thousand Island, and in general, this was an uninteresting area. There is a Dessert Bar as well with Banana Pudding (just pudding, no fresh cut banana), Strawberry Cobble, Apple Pie, and a variety of pie - Chocolate, Lemon Chess, etc. For the most part, this is average food, especially the vegetables and the desserts. The mashed potatoes were definitely not home made, and all the other veggies were canned or frozen, and uniformly under-seasoned - very disappointing. The Steak & Gravy was not good at all, the taste close to unpleasant. The Fried Chicken, Baked Ham,, and the Fried Pork Chops were pretty good. The Country Ham was not bad, and the Fried Fat Back was interesting, but a very little goes a long way, even wrapped in a nice biscuit. The Corn Bread and Biscuits were very nice, but the desserts were also very average, with little depth of flavor. The best of the lot was the Strawberry Cobbler which did have some nice, sharp flavor. The buffet cost $10.60 for all you can eat, which is a touch pricey when compared with Pioneer Family Restaurant, up the road in High Point (lunch is $6.95 less desserts). All in all, it is a bit of a stretch to get to 3 stars. Nice folks, great service, and an interesting experience, but not one we're likely to repeat. If you choose to come, bring cash, no CC accepted.

Best food I've had since my mothers and grandmothers cooking. I will be going back and it's a 48 minute drive from my house.

They have reopened in new location. They are now next to Lowe's Foods on 109 in Denton. I will be eating there today and will add to this.

In general the place was basically clean. The servers were speedy and brought drinks and silverware quickly. Refills came quick and buffet plates were removed swiftly. Four of us got buffet and two ordered from the menu. The menu orders seemed to take a long time. The salad bar was the old fashioned kind with all the old fashioned fixin's. The hot food was plentiful but I can't say that the quality was especially wonderful. It was good but not great. Some things were not salted and others were overly salty. The flounder were especially fishy and flounder is not fishy fish. The dessert was grocery store leftovers. The "cobblers" were goop. And they only had vanilla ice cream in the machine (maybe on purpose). All in all, the experience was lacking. It wasn't awful but I certainly was hoping for better.

Choices of the day (Friday night, 4/5) were Famous Pot Roast, Bacon Herb Baked Chicken, loaded Mac and cheese, bacon braised Brussels, Broccoli casserole, Sriracha sweet potatoes, and the usual salad accompaniments. They did not disappoint. The pot roast was as tender a flavorful as any I've had, with a few potatoes and carrots in a gravy. The chicken was also very tender (all dark meat, that I saw, and prefer) and juicy, with a nice blend of seasonings. I even tried the broccoli casserole, even though I don't care much for the vegetable, and it was pretty tasty! My girlfriend loved the Sriracha sweet potatoes, and went back for seconds. As I prefer sweet potatoes more on the savory side, I also enjoyed them. I wasn't brave enough for the Brussel sprouts, however. The regular salad side had options of Romaine, or a tender greens mix, with many of the usual toppings and six dressing choices. My lemonade was spot-on, and Barb's half-and-half tea was also tasty. They also have Pepsi products available. We will definitely be watching their Facebook page for future weekend selections, as the menu changes daily/weekly.

The perfectly cooked soft center, the crisp exterior, and the sticky ssssaaaaauce it's covered in... It's savory and heavy enough to be a meal but I was being generous and decided to share the appetizer with my spouse. They do offer a spice scale and they don't hold back. I foolishly tried the spice level 3 (out of 5 being the hottest) and should have chosen a 2 spice level. But the cauli was so good I fought through the pain. Worth it. I could have easily stopped there but we also ordered the garlic naan (also yessssss) as well as the Lamb Korma and Chicken Vindaloo. Both those entrees were delicious but the Korma really stood out to me. The rich and creamy sauce was very unique to my pallet and when I returned, I ordered the Chicken Korma. Clearly I love a good sauce. The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated, very spacious and would be great for groups or a romantic dinner for 2 (or 3 if you are into that sort of thing). The service was excellent and our server was patient when we ask questions about the menu. Fortunately, a lot of the dishes have descriptions on the menu so you have a good idea of what you are ordering. Looking forward to returning to Peppers again .... for the cauliflower... and the naan....

We were seated immediately, and given time/space to look over the menu, but with our server still hovering nearby in case we had questions or were ready quickly. When we ordered, the server explained the 1-5 spice scale, gave recommendations, and even asked about allergies. After the food came out, he continued to check on us. This is definitely not one of those "abandoned in the corner and ignored" type of establishments. We started with an order of chili paneer, with spice level 2. It was perfectly crunchy and super flavorful. Level 2 has a nice kick to it if you sit for a minute between bites, but it doesn't necessarily light you up either. It is a great level if you're sharing something with someone a little more spice-hesitant. I love paneer, and this appetizer had a generous portion that could easily be a meal for 1 person. For my main, I got the Chana masala, spice level 3. This was absolutely delicious! Spicy, warm, flavorful. Chickpeas had the perfect texture -- not too hard nor too mushy. As a spicy food enjoyer, level 3 was a nice level that is hot and ~just~ starts to make my face flush, but isn't overpowering. A "conversational" level if you will. I could easily order this on a work lunch and could still eat with decorum. We also got garlic naan, which is always a hit, but done absolutely perfectly here. Pillowy, soft, fresh, and generous with the garlic.
